Reviews of The Rose & Crown
R.
Fantastic food! Great staff! Really friendly pub. Food was fast and tasted amazing. Had the lamb Sunday roast and the kids had fish fingers and chips.
The staff were great with the kids and gave us colouring pencils and prints of the pubs alpacas to colour in and stick on the wall.
All in all I would highly recommend!
R. L.
Beautiful food. We had the mushroom and walnut strudel, which was just perfection – I wish I had chosen that! The chicken with mushroom and tarragon was just so flavoursome. It’s been a long time since I have eaten here and it just gets better and better. We came back a week later with my family, and likewise all the food was superb. The staff are so lovely and the pretty garden with alpacas is a blessing when you have a small child to entertain.

I booked a table here for my family who were down to visit us in Bristol. It's a lovely welcoming family pub. The food was delicious and served quickly. The staff were fantastic with our little ones and provided crayons and colouring for them. We loved being seated next to the warm fireplace! A hidden gem, we will be back to visit in the future!

Nicely cooked food very tasty but the portions are so small. Served on a sandwich size plate rather than dinner plate. The chap who seated us as we were a walk in not booked treated us as a bit of inconvenience. The whole customer service staff could do with tweaking their hospitality skills. But clean and tidy and the food was very nice just small and far to expensive for the amount you get.

Visited on Wednesday for lunch. Staff very friendly and welcoming. There were plenty of choices on the menu & specials board. The food was v.nice & enjoyed by all 5 of us. My son is vegan & there were a couple of options on the menu. The chef was v.accommodating & without being asked offered to make a vegan crumble. Nice relaxed atmosphere, would definitely eat here again.
A. T.
Liked the menu and food tasted nice but, prices for what you get isn't good value at all. Drinks are City Centre prices and Chicken with Mushroom & Tarragon should be renamed Carrots & Green Beans as that's what makes up over 70% of the dish. I had less than a 1/5 of a small chicken breast a few greasy cubes of potatoes and two whole carrots and a small handful of green beans, all of which was completely covered/camouflaged by a salad type garnish.
Had the impression that some of the staff wanted to go home early as they kept taking stuff from the table before we were even finished...won't go back and three stars is generous I feel...much better places close by

We have just enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch 😋 as always staff are friendly and service was excellent. I would highly recommend not just for Sunday but any day or night. Keep up the great work you are all doing 👍

The Rose and Crown hosted my 60th birthday meal on 28.10.2022 and they were amazing, it was all booked as a surprise by my children and the party of 15 were catered for brilliantly. Food was to the highest quality , service was great and the staff we accommodating and lovely .I can't rate the overall experience with less than 10/10 thankyou Rose and Crown ,we will be back soon x
R. C.
Went to a pre booked event at the pub. They were able to provide gluten free food as pre-arranged.
Food was very nice, Pub is warm and welcoming with good size car park. Animals to see at end of car park.
C. A.
Place looks lovely. Friendly staff, great menu, good prices, lovely food, what more could you want for a local..
J. M.
Nice meal staff friendly and made to feel welcome. Bit difficult to fined if you are new to the area.

Under new management. Food was nice. Had beef roast. Was quite expensive for not a big meal. For 4 people meal drink and dessert just under £100. My veg was not warm enough and had it returned to reheat. Needed a lot more veg a couple of carrots and parsnips and 3 small potatoes plus a small bowl of cauliflower cheese to share not good enough. It looked well presented but I want it not ware it. Would I recommend probably not. Would I go back not to soon. In short disappointed. As I remember previous owners excellent food.
M. A.
Went for Sunday lunch as l saw a review for the steak night. New managers. Ordered roast turkey dinner and roast pork dinner. Was nicely cooked but not very hot. Waitresses came and asked if everything was ok so l told her yes but that forgot gravy and cauliflower cheese which came out hotter than rest of food, it was very nice. When paying mentioned it and the Waitress apologised as she was new and was still trying to remember what went with what. Will probably go again.
A. G.
The waiting staff were very polite and welcoming and did a good job of hosting customers. Service however, was quite slow, we waited about 35 minutes for our Sunday Lunch to arrive, which is fine if you are having a lazy Sunday. Perhaps the waiting time for the food is because it was clearly made with attention and each component cooked to perfection, crispy pork scratching, vegetables with the right amount of bite, and tasty gravy. I had the vegan mushroom and walnut strudel which seemed freshly made and was very tasty. My only complaint about the food itself, certainly the vegan dish was that there were only 3 small pieces of potato 1 small julienne of carrot and parsnip and 2 small Broccoli spears, as the vegan dish didn't come with any extra bits like Yorkshire pudding or stuffing it would have been great to have more vegetables; as it was I left feeling hungry. The other members of the party loved their roast and their portions seemed better, though again not much veg. For pudding we had Brownie, Mars Ice Cream Sundae and Crème Brulee which were all apparently delicious. The only vegan dessert option was sorbet or ice cream and for the price you only got one measly scoop so not really worth it, especially when compared to the other 'normal' desserts. So in summary very pleasant, however, increase the veg and perhaps give some more vegan options for dessert.
M. L.
A wonderful country pub. Lovely food and fantastic staff. The new chef is great and the food is lovely. Would recommend the daily pie!! Delicious.
D. E.
6 of us at the table with 3 of them being chefs it could have been hard to please them but we all had a pleasurable experience from the staff and 6 great meals.
J. C.
Lovely pub, excellent food, well priced, friendly staff, fast service, easy parking, wonderful views from reasurant, highly recommended.
P. M.
The food, and service at the Rose&Crown was truly spectacular. I cannot fault a single aspect of this homely, welcoming pub.
J. W.
Food was very good with interesting choice of specials. Friendly service. Will return! 😀
N. T.
We had Sunday Lunch last Sunday and I have to say it was lovely. We will be back. Thank you
S. F.
Acceptable for a Sunday lunch, the food was ok, the meat (beef) was a bit tough. The service was quite terrible, this isn't isolated just this place however the entire hospitality industry seems to be like this currently. The servers in here just had no charisma or seemingly interest. Missed items, gravy spilt on the table and just left, when mention a napkin was just placed over it.
D. F.
A very pleasent atmosphere and food good ,spent a nice couple of hours.
E. A.
Me, my mum, sister and Nelly the dog came in on Friday afternoon for a meal. We were given a lovely dog friendly table at the front. It was a perfect country pub atmosphere and very welcoming. Everything we had was deeeliscious 👌and we will definitely be coming back here alot more in the future. A great choice for summer and winter I reckon. Highly recommend.
s. c.
I visited midweek afternoon , sunny day and all I can say is excellent pub 👍..They serve great cider and it's poured by freindly cheerful staff .The back garden is superb ..Sun if you want it and shade too .⛱️...I cycled there but had to walk home due to consuming too much cider🍺🍺🍺🍺 🥺😊😄...I can only give four stars because I never got to taste the food 🍽️🥄 but I would imagine that would be good too...I need to visit again soon ... definitely 💯
a. s.
Returned here after a few years, it had gone downhill. Now? What a turn around! We weren't going to eat but ended up Both going for the baked cod, reasonable wait for fresh cooked delicious food.
Good range of drinks to compliment, attentive and smart staff. Ate the lot, clean plates! Very atmospheric pub, just read the essay from a "local guide" ignore it, they should learn to communicate properly. Please support this gem, you won't be disappointed! Ferris.
W. T.
Really nice friendly pub with a good range of food and drinks. Also nice to choose between sitting inside the cosy pub or our in the garden
S. L.
Visited as a party of 12. Great service, BUT....triple cooked chips they certainly weren't, flabby & soft. Someone had the duo of pork, the sticky pork cheek was a dried over cooked bullet, the chicken cacciatore was dry. Think a creme brulee was sent back.
Room for improvement!
S. P.
Main courses were OK but a little below par for the price point, deserts were great though! Service was slow & unattentive given the restaurant wasn't busy when we visited - I suspect things would flow a little more naturally when it was busier.
N. F.
Great food and drink.
Service and ambience very good as well 👍
A. w.
I found this pub on search for sites when looking to park my motorhome somewhere for a couple of nights. The area is lovely, really quiet and felt safe. The pub is lovely, I ate and drank here for 2 days and loved it! Would certainly come back. Thank you
A. D.
Super pub,had a family wake there today(mar7),great food provided,and lovely,friendly staff there.
Wife and I going to have Sunday lunch there soon.
Keep it up.😃😃👍👍
K. S.
We stopped at The Rose and Crown and received a lovely welcome. The food was brilliant, we had the homemade steak and ale pie, the pastry was delicious. Lasagne too was very tasty, proper homemade grub. We had the early bird menu which was cheaper than anticipated. All in all great food and great service.👌
A. Y.
The food was absolutely amazing. There were 16 of us in our party and we pre ordered our food a couple of days before. It all came out at the same time, all freshly cooked, not kept on hot hold. Staff were all friendly. Lovely atmosphere. Would defo go again.
F. H.
What an amazing pub. Stepped in at last minute to save a friend's wedding after their venue closed an hour before their wedding due to covid. They gave us a fantastic meal - the steak and ale pie was the best I'd ever had and ALL the staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.
R. D.
Disappointed the chocolate cake is no longer Gluten Free, as it was a reason for choosing to eat here. Best 'Hunters' style chicken out of many we have visited.
J. M.
Had a wonderful Sunday Lunch. It was quite busy but we had our own area for our party of 10. Portions were big and service was great. Would highly recommend.
M. S.
So where do I start.from start to finish me and my mum felt well cared for. Food was fantastic and shaun made us feel very welcome and catered to our every need .Will be returning, well done shaun your a star 🌟
J. E.
We had a lovely lunch there today we both had the steak and trimmings for a tenner yes it was 6oz steak but that's all you need for lunch.
D. D.
When we lived in Pucklechurch we used Rose and crown all the time. We married and moved away, but wow! Had pre birthday lunch for our daughter today, food amazing, service amazing, you won't keep us away we will be back in a couple of weeks really cosy, not changed a great deal clean and cosy thankyou
K. S.
Delicious food, friendly staff, beautiful decor. Best halloumi fries ive ever had! Definitely would come again!!
F. B.
Extraordinarily the best meal that I have had in a restaurant or or pub for many a long year. My partner and I opted for the liver and onions and we were not disappointed it was better than first class. It is obvious we will go again and try and alternative on the menu. the staff were more than helpful in fact that is beyond belief.
A. M.
Family birthday celebration, 13 of us. The service, food, choices and choice of drinks were excellent. Can't praise them enough. Thank you.
R.
Gorgeous food, wraps for lunch were delicious plenty of filling, they do small plate options too. They have lunch deals, the surroundings are old world and beautifully kept. Lovely log fires on a cold day just lovely!!
K. D.
Was delighted to see plaice on the menu. Lovely sized whole fish arrived but swimming in too much butter sauce. Tasted delicious but half of my fish was in fact roe. Although I don't mind roe and ate some of it, I'd rather have had all fish. This wasn't anyone's fault, as no one, including the chef can see inside a whole fish! Had the lemon meringue for dessert. It was absolutely delicious, the nicest I've ever had out.
S. B.
We went to the Rose and Crown as a treat, we had a lovely meal but it was spoilt by the service as we were seated and served ok with the starters and main meals but as we were seated in a room off of the main dining area they never came back to ask if we'd like a dessert, so after about 45mins my partner went to see the waitress she came about 5mins later apologised for forgetting us, which i was not really happy with. On the way out paying the bill the manager said about it but his comment was ' The pubs main trade is drink and it's more important to him 🤔 ' if that is the case ' Why sell food ' when that is where a lot of their profits come from. I will not be going back there soon even though the food was excellent.
R. L.
Lovely new menu, now does takeaway Monday and Tuesday evenings m, can also book on line

Down Memory Lane.
Used to come here when I lived locally. We were staying up here before flying out of Bristol airport, so decided to show my other half the area. He loves English pubs, bless him!
It’s a nice ‘safe’ pub with decent food and friendly staff.
Good to see little village pubs still thriving in the current economy.
Probably won’t get to come back as it’s a long way for a glass of wine!!
B. T.
Booked for Sunday lunch. Delicious roast. Very friendly and efficient staff. Took a while for the food to arrive.
L. E.
Back to private ownership. Good selection on the menu and all the food was excellent. Nice decor and very friendly staff. Haven't been here for years, but will be coming back now regularly, as it's nice to find a decent non chain pub with a specials board.
B. R.
Visited the Rose and Crown this evening as we have done many times over the years pre lockdown.
The food was excellent, as was the service.
There was no overcrowding, nothing at all to make you feel at risk, safely spaced out. However still retaining the relaxed, friendly atmosphere that it’s always had.
Will definitely be back again soon and so glad it’s our local ❤️
N. A.
Boxing day every year; the staff are always professional and cheerful.
Food is lovely; well presented & tasty !
The local walks are lovely; we saw deer, birds (including over 100 on the water in the quarry) and other wildlife. An area of real natural beauty.
H. P.
Love this pub! We are lucky enough to live close to the cycle track and can walk here from Mangostfield. Great selection of drinks, particularly ciders, gorgeous beer garden with plenty of tables.
We've had Sunday lunch here a few times as well, the Yorkshire's are to die for! We're also partial to a ploughman's, they really don't skimp on the cheese!
E. C.
Really good pub in a nice location. (Pucklechurch) Indoors and in the garden are so pleasant for a meal, snack or just a drink. Went there for our first outing having emerged from shielding. All organised and felt safe. Highly recommend.
J. B.
Came for a family meal last week welcomed by very friendly waitresses. Food was very tasty and plenty of it . Great pub nice warm atmosphere This pub is running lovely compared to my last visit in June . Keep up the good work highly recommend
N. W.
Just had a lovely roast mmmmm definitely worth a visit
C. A.
Food was reasonable for the price if a bit simple. Manager was rude to staff in front of customers which was not very professional. The bearded waiter in the burgundy shirt gave service with a smile even under stressful circumstances which was much appreciated.
H. H.
Excellent Sunday lunch.
Went as family - had beef/ chicken and lamb - all delicious.
Kids portions huge.
Brilliant professional yet friendly waiting staff.
I d recommend it!
S. C.
Friendly, polite and a quick service, the pub itself is very cosy, food was spot on,good selection of wines, ales, ciders and lagers, highly recommended.
A. M.
Had a lovely meal here today, food was very nice & well presented. Service was prompt, our waitress was very helpful. I had an issue with my food (not their fault )and she took it away &brought me something different. Will certainly return 😀
C. j.
A visit after a funeral! A buffet provided which was very very good. The establishment is homely and beer of high conditioned quality I was informed. Sober October in force I'm afraid so even a stay in the wetherspoons Portland hotel a visit to the Rose and Crown no alcohol consumed. The pub was set up for this function and laid out perfectly for our use. Car parking limited but worth a visit keeping our public houses alive and kicking!
K. A.
Husbands burger was dry and my sausages overcooked. Puddings are nice but very over priced. Deconstructed Eton mess poor with 2 tiny blobs off cream and no icecream. Choc tart not served with icecream (which it needed) so have to pay another £1.50. £7 for a dessert is way over the top. Staff are lovely though and I am sure things will get better as the new team find their feet.
K. b.
Great country pub with a good range of beers and excellent food
K. J.
The terrible weather when we arrive to stay made the outside look a bit grey. Don't be put off. The inside is a typical pub AND the rooms are clean and of the homely style. Staff are excellent!
J. D. D.
Had lunch today, very busy with amazing table service. Fish and chips very tasty.
R. A.
Hi Aidan, it's not that I had a bad experience. Food was fine, beer selection was fine and staff were fine. My visit was........ fine, it merited three stars. If friends were in the area I would recommend the pub.
B. I.
Friendly and helpful staff, good choice and nice food. Quite busy so it was fairly noisy.

N. M.
The food was bad, definitely wouldn’t pay these prices for the quality I recieved and I was going to mention it to someone when they collected our plates or asked how the food was but they were too busy hoovering and chatting so we just left and swore we would not be back. Heard it was bad since they changed hands!
A. W. M.
Brilliant service, waiter and waitress working tonight were amazing! Lovely staff and delicious food!
I. H.

Unfortunately, had to attend a funeral at the Crematorium near Pucklechurch, North Bristol. It was a sad affair but was enlightened by one of the best Wakes I have attended at The Rose and Crown. Great food, excellent friendly service and certainly very used to handling Wakes!! I would thoroughly recommend this venue for anyone planning a Wake following a Cremation at Pucklechurch.
S.
Brilliant food and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend 10/10.
D. C.
