J. A.I didn't get to finish this review before but yes I enjoyed aspects of the place - very different from the old star, which was fun for different reasons. Two things let it down for me:the bizarre covid rules, which meant we were confined to the drafty and dark outside area. Then the 'vibe killing' music, more suited to the end of a night, not 6pm. The positives- service was quick & polite and food well above average, though paper plates and wooden cutlery is never good when paying proper prices. Having read about the new ownership and refurb of this pub over last couple of years, my visit left me a little underwhelmed.

Shout out to Malcolm and especially Karen who womanned the bar admirably. As for Lisa and her food, a masterclass in outdoor cooking. A lovely couple of hours with my family in a relaxed atmosphere with great service all round

E. C.Very pleased that this classic local has re-opened and with such a good look. My only gripe is that there is a very heavy security presence, even early in the evening on a weekday. It's a bit Big Brother. Not overall a major issue the guys are very courteousbut maybe could be a little more relaxed in less of a presence?

R.This place is proppa sound, we dropped in on our way back to London from lands end... couldn't fault anything, we attended a free kids fun day with Jamaican food that smashed it, live entertainment that had everyone happy, dancing and basicly bringing people together just how it should be.. our good friend lives near, so when we drive the 3 hour drive to see her and get in her studio we will be going there again.. wish it was nearer...

T. M.I only came in for one but I was impressed by the selection of beers, the quality of service, the reasonable prices, the good music and pleasent interior. Nice boozer. There was a minimum spend of £5 on card I think which was slightly annoying but hey ho.

Great selection of drinks included red stripe and the famous Wray and nephews, Jamaica finest alcoholic beverages. Great place when he has a mini festival as it brings the community together. Fantastic place to visit with great music-always.

A. C.I went into this pub needing a piss, my mate said he'd be about 1.5 hours. Cool, whatever, my first ever pub in Bristol and I found the best one! Ché helped me around the local ale's. When it became apparent that I would stay for more than that I just had to step in. Ché was one of the best bartenders I could have asked for. Viva Ché. Seven pints deep and I just can't recommend the bloke enough.
