Reviews of The Willy Wicket

Very nice place to eat. The service staff were cheery and eager to please, nothing too much trouble. The staff catered for my daughter's allergy, although it was a very limited choice. The food was excellent and plentiful. The fish and chips was huge; couldn't finish it! Lovely atmosphere. Would definitely go again.

Wonderful food, in a relaxed atmosphere. Shout out to our waiter Cameron, who provided excellent customer service and arranged my meal to be adjusted to suit my dietary needs.

Very cheerful + helpful Welsh lad serving behind the bar.. alone initially. He was taking orders, serving food, promptly clearing and wiping tables. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a toddler and baby with us and he kindly carried our drinks. Food was tasty and well cooked. Chips fresh and crispy. I was a bit disappointed that there was no peas, or half a grilled tomato or salad garnish.. To me, it is not a meal without any veg at all. Just gammon and chips and a sprig for garnish. My daughter's burger meal had no onion rings, but to be fair, we were informed at point of ordering! My Gammon was very well cooked and not salty. Atmosphere was pleasant, pub was clean. Plenty of parking. Overall, a good experience and would return.

We didn't arrive until quite late and still not a problem to order food. The place is decorated nicely and very clean throughout. There is a mix of furniture and a relaxed atmosphere.
A good offer of beers and served nicely...in the correct branded glasses 😁 The food arrived promptly. It was piping hot, generous portions and really tasty. Only criticism I would make is if you serve a side salad in a small bowl please shred lettuce and mix it. Also, there was no dressing. 🫤
Last orders was given at 10.30pm which was unexpected and disappointed to end our visit in a rush. But enjoyed evening and will return. More vegetarian options would be welcome.

Had a great night here for a birthday🎊 meal. Food arrived in good time and was absolutely delicious, so fresh and tasty. Amazing service, our server was very attentive and took good care of our party. Would definitely recommend 👍🏻😊

We were shown to our table by the window, which was nice. The waitress was very helpful, nothing was too much trouble for her.
The food was good as was the coffee and mini pudding.
I was confused to get a card saying that we were served by Ethan, but we were served by a female waitress.
J. C.
I like the atmosphere in the pub.
It was very Christmassy and smelt lovely.
The food we all had was delicious.
I enjoyed my Prosecco and my mini pud.
I find the toilets upstairs a bit 👻 😂
We had a great evening with friends and will visit again.
Please remember to register your car reg at the bar!

What a lovely pub.We were early but we were allowed to go to go straight to our table.I had all ready looked online to see what I wanted saw the menu in the pub. The Pork belly I was warned it might be fatty.Which it was but was very well cooked and did not notice veg were lovely and the gravy was lovely I swapped the mash as I do not like black pudding but swapped for spring onion mash beautiful.we ordered the pudding Black Forest pudding it was beautifully made and presented it tasted amazing it was arranged in what looks like a plant pot with edible flower .The service was excellant we would recommend this pub the food is fantastic
B. D.
Stopped there briefly for something light to eat on a Sunday evening and also to get out of the heat. I
only had the wild caught tempura prawns but can honestly say they were amazing. Presentation was excellent and cooked perfectly. The soy chilli and lime sauce was fantastic, though not hot at all and would never had known it had any chlli in it....more ginger tasting but the combination was brilliant.
If only judging by the starter i would definitely recommend the willy wicket. Staff were attentive and polite too.

We attended last night for a pre Christmas get together. Despite being super early so we could have some drinks the team were super accommodating making our table available.
The food was great. It’s the 2nd time we have been in for food in the last month and it’s been great both times and we look forward to coming back again soon.
Biggest shout out was to Cameron though. This young gentleman was by far the best server I have ever experienced. So much enthusiasm for his job, so friendly and smiley and really went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our meal. His mother should be very proud of the young gentleman she has raised as he was an absolute joy and we hope he is there when we next come in

Went on a weekday at early lunchtime, so might be different jn the evenings.
Food was good but not the biggest portions (several comments around the table about how few chips given). Overall perception was of fairly decent pub-food at restaurant prices (£20 for a ribeye steak and it came with about 10 chips on the plate).
Staff were very pleasant and friendly, generally the building was a little cold for some (might just be getting used to the recent weather change though).
In general, I'd happily go back next time work are paying or there's a voucher on offer - at full price it's a little over-priced to eat, but a nice pub for a drink.

Went in for some food as we were staying at the travel lodge across the road... very impressed indeed, great food, great staff that couldn't do enough for us... we ended up staying for a few drinks as such a nice atmosphere.... we will be back when back in Bristol. Highly recommended..
G. H.
My first time here .. Fabulous setting great staff. Food was all presented well . Cameron was excellent waiter very attentive. Great atmosphere. Will definitely return .
s. e.
10/12/22, 3pm booking. The food was excellent, there was a group of about 16 of us, the staff were very efficient even though they had staff off sick. Our waiter was superb and nothing seemed too much trouble and deserves a pat on the back. (And a pay rise)
L. H.
I found the service and the ordering when I first arrived was OK as the restaurant was full. When the restaurant emptied out, the service was slow. The tables were very slow to be cleared and there was no shortage of staff. This would not give a good impression to someone who was eating in for the first time.
M. W.
Had a lovely lunch at the Willy Wicket, fish cakes are so tasty. However, what was most impressive was the attentive waiter Cameron who was absolutely amazing. He was so polite, kept checking with us without being annoying and always had friendly smile
s. t.
Wonderful customer service by Cam, good attention to detail, polite, explained menu, service with a smile which wasn't rushed. Just what we needed after experiencing poor customer service from elsewhere. Happy customers which will return. 5 star well deserved.
B. D.
We stopped off for a meal, last minute. we were a party of 5, 4 adults and 1 child , when we arrived staff could not do enough for us, found us a table straight away, food was excellent, the atmosphere was lovely, we would definitely go back again if we are in the area,
L. H.
Whilst service was a little slow our waiter apologised and was very pleasant and helpful. We didn’t mind the slowness of the service as we had time to talk to our friends. Really enjoyed the evening.
K. S.
We had a wonderful family meal here last week - food has improved immensely since we last visited about 6months ago and the service was incredible - Cameron was outstanding!!
M. C.
Met friends for a "working" lunch and the staff were great in looking after us. Good range of food options, our was served promptly, hot and well-cooked!
M. W.
Lovely food and service here yesterday. Great atmosphere with the roaring fires. Will return soon. Thanks!
m. p.
Had a very nice meal with my family here. Started with calamari which was coated with a chorizo seasoning. Followed by the cod loin, the fish was a small portion unfortunately, I'd have liked a larger piece but what was on my plate was tasty. We finished with a sticky toffee pudding and an apple and rhubarb crumble.
K. W.
Had an enjoyable evening at the Willy Wicket only to receive a fine for parking.
Registered our car on entry to the pub as they requested.
Some weeks later received a fine from the company Euro Car Parks who manage the parking on behalf of the Willy Wicket.
It appears that you comply to the parking procedure only to be penalised

It was ok, very short staffed, considering it was not that busy, took a long time to get served and after a conversation with the manager, it was clear she was not happy and couldn't wait to leave her position, which said it all really! It's a shame, because it's a great location and so much potential!
J. H.
We had Christmas dinner here, while the wait in-between each course was fairly long, the staff were lovely, the food was good and the atmosphere was perfect
B. T.
Food was ok..
Service was very slow.
R. H.
Went for a Christmas meal and staff handled group of 16 really well eventhough they were short staffed due to illness. Really good food and decent portions
K. V.
Although the pub was unable to take walk ins for food they kindly made us some chips to go with our drinks so really good customer service.
D. T.
Went through a period of erratic (and unpublished) opening hours, which is okay if it hadn't been for the fact this wasn't actually communicated to the customers. They have a FB page, an Instagram, and Google....is not difficult to post they aren't opening or will be late opening.
That aside the roasts.....decent enough but overpriced for the portion size, not nearly enough potato, powdered gravy and overcooked lamb out a hot hold.
Would probably not do a Sunday roast again, chains never really give value for money but their main menu looked decent enough. Good ale and beer selection from Peroni to Estrella to Doombar. Cask can be hit and miss when it comes to selection; the most recent visit only having Doombar.
6.
Lovely food and great service by James new general manager .
5* all they way !
E.
Great food but when there are many people and when busy the service is very slow. It’s been one hour since we’ve placed our order and we’re still waiting. 3/5
D. C.
I visited this evening staying in the area for work. I ordered the pork belly and a pint. Prices were reasonable and my beer was crisp and cold. Staff were friendly and efficient. A great start.
Now the pork belly.....
It's one of my favourite meals, I've eaten it in tons of places but tonight's offering knocked the spots off 95% of what I've had before. Really good size portions, the dish was constructed beautifully and cooked to perfection. From the ever so slightly wilted spinach, to the black pudding mash, the green beans that had just the right amount of bite in them, and the gravy. What can I say about the gravy? except you could serve it in a mug with a crusty roll as a starter and I'd be happy.
It's my first time here so I can't comment on anything else, but if you visit, have the pork belly. You won't be disappointed.
A. M.
Overall the meals were decent and service good. I had the vegan candied vegetable roast. It was a little dry and the smear of tomato sauce looked like someone had run their finger through it. Vegan gravy would have made the meal less dry and much better.
A. G.
Visited today was very nice experience the food was excellent and the setting was comfortable with an open fire the staff were helpful pleasant and very friendly
S. j.
Came in with 2A and 2C.
Great children's menu, very well priced.
Great main menu too. Really attentive service
You have sussed it, look after the kids and everyone is happy, will come again
C. F.
Visiting for food while staying away with work. Had lesagne. Wow! Very unexpected plat. Very testy well presented. There was a new lad who started two days ago who was learning on the job (I didn't get your name sorry) very helpful friendly food was amazing. Very highly recommended
A. F.
Lovely food but very cold inside and had to keep my coat on
L. N.
Great Staff and Lovely food. Enjoyed my visit very much and will be back again with the family.
A. C.
Nice pub friendly staff when not chatting between themselves or on there phones. Unfortunately not very busy amd my food was over cooked , my friend recommended the burger , nice pub and a shame
B. H. D.
Very bad customer experience from start to finish. Arrived and said I reserved a table and was told to sit anywhere...... I had to ask again to be seated in the correct area. That was annoyance number one. Annoyance two, had to go to the bar to get my drinks then told to go to my table to wait...... drinks still not arrived..... asked for some water, got those.... still no drinks. Annoyance number three, my girlfriends steak was cooked incorrectly.
This goes on an on. The manager offered to knock the steak off the bill and give us free puddings. Still only three stars
E. S.
Great food and friendly staff. Really enjoyed it
M. E.
The aesthetics and atmosphere of the pub are nice, the staff are lovely and the food was by and large good. We went for Sunday roast and the beef seemed to go down better than the lamb (they had run out of turkey by 1pm, which did seem a little odd for a Sunday roast, but we move). My wife is coeliac, as we had informed them when we booked, and she ordered a gluten free version of the beef roast. When the food came out, there was no gravy at all on the plate, as they had run out of gluten free gravy. These things happen, but they hadn’t come out to tell us this beforehand or offered my wife to change her order. They offered to get a different sauce for the beef, the apple gravy that normally goes with pork, which we accepted as it would take too long to order a new meal. The new sauce eventually came once my wife’s food was cold and I had entirely finished my meal. They had also tried to compensate for the lack of Yorkshire pudding by piling on lots of cabbage, not asking what my wife would prefer to have more of. For dessert, she was able to have the brownie, despite the website stating that it had gluten in (the waitress checked the box however - (it came in a box?!)) and assured us it was fine. My mother-in-law found her brownie very chewy but everyone else enjoyed theirs. I had the crumble, which was delicious but rather small. To her credit, the waitress removed the gluten free meal from our bill entirely without us having to ask. The staff were lovely, just ill-prepared.
L. J.
All staff were friendly and helpful, we all commented on how nice everyone was.
Waitress told us what wasn’t available as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
The roast dinner / quality of food was great.
We had coffee’s after and it was hot - which is unusual these days!
Look forward to returning.
H. N.
Lovely food and drinks
The food was really good quality and full of flavour
J. T.
Can't fault it. Nice pub with nice food and not over priced. Would go back again if in the area.
M. R.
A very nice pub, food excellent, and the service was first class. Couldn't fault anything.
G.
First time visit and I was not disappointed.
The staff were super friendly and helpful, they were attentive and welcoming and they couldn't do enough for our table.
The food was top notch. I had the hunters chicken schnitzel and it was delicious, couldn't fault it.
The food and drink was reasonably priced.
The decor was lovely, with open wood burning fires. It felt very warm, welcoming and homely on a rainy evening.
Perfect, can't wait to visit again.
K. P.
Great service good food lovely atmosphere what more do you need
S. S. K.
Nice pub but service was slow considering we were the only group in. Food came out a little cooled, but was nice. Would be a good pub for drinks on a sunny day.
J. G.
Food and service were excellent, but the restaurant was freezing
A. G.
The quality of the food was very good, wait for food and drinks were very slow, i think you needed more waiting staff,
H. D.
We waited a while to be served but there was a party of 14 near us so staff busy.
A. G.
Richard and his staff made us extremely welcome on Saturday lunchtime and nothing was too much bother for our (pre-booked) party of 23. Food was served in an orderly and timely fashion and there were no complaints about our fare. The need to register your car number plate was well signed and so I am surprised other people have missed this. My family and I could not fault the service and welcome that we received, which made for pleasant family gathering in honour of my late father.
H. K.
Great interior and helpful staff. I turned up as a walk-in, when they were down to one chef and they still found me a table. Had a great meal and despite being told of a long wait, my order was with me really quickly.
A. C.
Nice vènue, parking was good, food sunday lunch very good, well worth a visit
a. j.
Had a fantastic anniversary meal in this fabulous place. The food was absolutely amazing, the waitress was friendly and efficient. The prices were as expected. It wasn't too busy which was nice. We will definitely return.
A. J.
The interior was amazing the history of the farm atmosphere welcoming, warm & comfy, the food was proper, good portion, good value,
M. K.
Fantastic service our young waiter was extremely friendly and very helpful
S.
Visited on a lunchtime. Welcomed by an extremely helpful manager (I assume) lovely burger and friendly staff
A. T.
Amazing food, nice atmosphere, will come again.
D.
Enjoyed our meal. I had a burger which was lovely and my wife had a pizza, the base was really good but there was rather a bit too much tomato paste, but that's only me being picky
J. P.
Great food and attentive service.
J.
Great pub, interior is lovely and cosy, lots of well thought out areas for food and drinks. Staff were attentive and welcoming and the food was excellent. Good value and portion sizes were generous. Would recommend the triple cooked chips!
S. V.
One of the best burgers I've had and friendly staff
L. Z.
Very small menu options and not what is advertised on the website. (I'm aware of the pandemic!!) Very few Items to choose from . Lacks atmosphere and not overly welcoming due to large 'wait here to be seated' signs.
Service from our waitress was fine, no issues and the food was good.
P. C.
Unfortunately, was not told of the short menu untill I was ready to order chips not triple cooked.
M. S.
Service was slow, Sunday lunch was not worth the £15 and all of our meals did not have pigs in blankets on our plates we had to ask for them.
Waitress was friendly and helpful.
N. F.
Lovely atmosphere 👌
Great food,ales and wine.
The waitress was super efficient and very attentive.
Loved the Sunday roast 😋
R. J.
Had a nice meal
Good atmosphere
C. S.
Really lovely food. A staff served us was so friendly and 😃. Def go there again.
R. E.
A beautiful homely pub feel. Amazing menu and food quality. Never had a bad experience here.
If you're lucky, a bottle of red in a comfy chair by the fire cannot be beaten.
S. C.
Good food only down fall was the service from clearing plates, think we waited 30 mins. They looked short on staff that day, but would go there again and I would recommend. They done well with a bad situation.
A. G.
Must be a newish manager as now dogs are allowed not just in direct bar area but now opened up to the left of the bar. Really helpful and as always good food nicely served. I know it's a chain and therefore you know what you get but it's still well worth going. We always go when in the area
S. W.
Nice food, slightly smaller portions than I had hoped for the prices, but friendly staff and one small issue with my food was sorted immediately. 👍🏻
S. D.
Gorgeous food every time we visit. Lovely atmosphere and good staff
b. 1.
Very enjoyable meal. Our server Jamie was friendly and looked after us well. Will definitely come back 😊
R. S.
Good decent food great service.
D. R.
Disappointed.
A friend went there yesterday & said she was unimpressed.
I would have to agree, both the quality of the food & service have both declined since prior to Covid.
The food was ok but not value for money. They have priced themselves at the top end of the local pub market & the food doesn't justify it. The staff were polite but not attentive.
There are better pubs locally. I could not recommend on the strength of todays visit.
N. G.
Greeting was great and pleasant from Rachael and the staff for the evening were great too
V. H.
Lots of space. Coffee machine. Dog friendly.
a. b.
The steak was lovely and the dripping sauce was very taste enjoyed it
L. O.
Great local pub and the Sunday roasts are amazing
S. B.
Hi all. The pub itself is fantastic and a nice place to be. The staff are friendly and helpful. Rosey was very good funny and knowledgeable of what's on.
Unfortunately by 5 pm on a Friday they had run out of 2 of the 3 bitters on offer. We stayed for dinner at a really nice little corner table that my mum was really happy with. Sorry to say the food was not good. Not good at all. I think that it was bad because the chef had no faith or passion in what he or she was doing or overseeing. If the Willy gets a new dedicated chef it could be the perfect pub. Oh and the bar back mirrors are bloody filthy. I really wish that they would sort out these simple problems. If they did I would love to go again.
E. S.
Great, varied Christmas menu. Cosy ambiance. Friendly staff.
Had not visited before (not usually my stomping ground), but came here for Christmas lunch with my colleagues. The lunch was delicious and, as I've already said, there was plenty of choice -- something for everyone. Three seating arrangement gave us all (party of 12) sufficient room and we neither felt hemmed in or hidden away.
The venue's being dog friendly means that I would like to visit again with my family (including our dog) in the new year.
M. J.
Sunday lunch was fantastic staff were very polite and helpful, and the next time I visit Bristol I will definitely revisit.
F. D.
Wonderful service from Richard and his team. Very good range of draught and wine.
Food was very nicely done, much higher quality than a good pub. Prices are fair, (as in good value because the quality deserves them).
Lovely ambience also, chunky wooden furniture and warm lighting, perfect for autumn into winter comfort.
S. J.
Friendly staff, polite, reasonably priced, good food. Not great location but nice garden with tables outside and easy free parking. Fab pudding of Banoffe pie!
K. T.
Food was superb , they need to get a better supply of real ales on tap..could be a supply issue at the moment tho so just one of those things i guess.
We were looked after by Maizy who was very polite , friendly and nothing was too much trouble..will definatly be going back!!
A. K.
Very spacious and quiet place. Good selection and quality of food. I would definitely recommend! It’s the favourite easy dinner place for me and my partner.
K. T.
I visited Willy Wicket today and ordered the same exact dishes like the previous time (2 weeks ago) as they were delicious. They were the chicken schnitzel and the slow cooked beef. They were delicious. My nephew had the childrens Sunday roast and it was delicious too.
Great atmosphere and good service. One of my favourite pubs!
w. h.
Visited today for Sunday lunch with my daughter. Food was delicious and service from Aleisha was excellent. She was speedy, attentive and courteous. Lovely setting and atmosphere, with every precaution taken to ensure a safe environment. Would definitely recommend and be back again soon.
C.
Lovely staff, always willing to help and go the extra mile to make sure your stay is great.
Great food and great menu. I am vegan and was hugely suprised at the level of catering.
The only thing is the drinks (not the food) is a little pricey but even that doesn't remove the deserved five star rating.
If you are passing stop in for a bite and a pint, you won't be disappointed.
F. H.
OK for family gathering, prices medium, quality reasonable, atmosphere so so… I didn't get excited but it's a convenient easy to find location.
P. O.
Pleasant enough thanks very attentive staff well mannered and polite
K. F.
I go there on a regular basis, nice country pub with charm, real fireplace and traditional/modern ambience. Friendly staff and nice garden.
S. P.
Excellent experience! We saw poor reviews on Tripadvisor so we're tentative but didn't want to go looking for somewhere else as we don't know the area, turned out to be very different from the reviews - we were pleasantly surprised!
We had a lovely greeting when we entered from a happy young lady, we were offered to sit where we like, they even found us a nice table in a reserved area that happened to be free after we were asked a few times because we couldn't decide where to sit!
The menu choice was well varied and all sounded tasty, and my girlfriend who has food allergies was excellently taken care of which was very important to us! When good came the sun was also in her eyes which the waitress, Mandy, who was taking care of noticed and then kindly moved us to another table. Service was, I guess, a little bit slow but because the staff so friendly and food was so good it wasn't noticeable - after all if you want fast food then go to McDonalds!
Overall an excellent experience that I'm more than happy to recommend!
M. E.
Efficient, welcoming service; great food; good price; parking easy; clean and tidy. What's not to love?
M. u.
The manager went above and beyond anything expected!!!
I went out for food to treat my girlfriend after she had a tough 15 hour night shift at work as a nurse. Whilst at the Willy Wicket a customer ended up passing out and became really sick, my girlfriend being a registered nurse ended up taking charge of the situation and made sure the customer was ok until the paramedics arrived.
When we ended up leaving the manager said she would pay for the full bill, food, drinks and desserts included (which I'll add was as usual very tasty).
This gesture was so nice and above anything my girlfriend has ever had before. It really meant allot to her and she couldn't stop smiling all the way home.
Thank you so much for your generosity.
S. D.
Nice table service from Staff. Very polite and friendly. Good food albeit a little pricey. Nice pub though, and as its got the government rulings in place also i would definitely recommend this pub.
a. t.
Quiet on this visit. Might be the limited menu, but was hot and tasty, nice staff, nothing to complain about. Like the car park numberplate system to keep strays out...
J. W.
Lovely food and good service. The roast could of done with being a bit warmer but overall a good place to go. Very clean inside and out.
L. V.
The service has gone to pot recently. Food is still nice but we've had to wait for food from 1hr to 1hr 20 mins on a booked table. Twice in 2 weeks. For a 3 course sunday lunch last week we were there for almost 3 hrs. They even brought our puddings out without clearing the dinner plates. I think they were short staffed but if they said that to begin with then you expect it.
P. W.
Really enjoyed meal & experience. Well organised re cv19. Friendly service staff. Great varied menu choice, good prices (all puddings seem pricy these days; that said we signed up online and got free ones, so no complaints there!) free parking, doggie friendly; would thoroughly recommend.
K. S.
Great food, friendly service n decent prices
L. B.
Went to meet friends. Food wasn't great.. Just ok.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
5 🌟 for staff
G. L.
Nice place for a drink. Homely feeling. Staff friendly beers good and gin selection v good. Meal though well below average. Wayu burger very dry. Spicy salsa not at all spicy and jalapeno extras came diced in a pot. Odd. But they were the most bland jalapenos ive ever had. Suspect that they had been frozen. So good place for a drink with friends but food - must do better
J. F.
Friendly staff. Lovely rustic decor. Clean loos. Seated quickly. Tasty, well presented food. A little above average prices but good value for money for our Sunday roast. ☺️
S. F.
Friendly service...comfortable with good decor
G. K.
Wife had lamb duo which was beautifully cooked I had hunters chicken which was different as I didn't know style it was cooked, can't remember its name but was flat and crispy was ok but wouldn't choose that again
C. M.
Amazing food, live local and this is our new favourite place. Fair prices, excellent service! We regular here weekly and are never disappointed, Steeve is a fantastic host! We will be back!
C.
Since it has reopened after being refurbished in November 2015, we were so impressed. Very nice new decor, really cosy with a couple of log fires, lovely furnishing, great menu, we loved our meals and desserts, our 4 year old loved his Sunday lunch so much he wants to go back. The service was very friendly and accommodating esp of our 8 month old child. A thoroughly enjoyable lunch and would highly recommend.
R. E.
The pub looks new and lacking character from the inside but when you get in it quickly changes your mind. Lots of open fires. Good selection of beer. Food is really tasty and good quality. Would recommend over other pubs close by.
J.
Went for a late sunday lunch with family. Staff were 5 star and lovely but you could tell the veg had been sat all day and was horrible. And too of the sunday dinners on are table it looked like so called giant Yorkshire's had been cut in half cause they had run out or didnt have any ready or somthing. One things for sure are roasts looked nothing like the ones that came to other tables before we ordered. But I had a pie and apart from the same dead veg as the roasts the pie its self was lovely. I'd eat here again cause as I say lovely pub lovely staff. Just not on a sunday after 3pm.

I know it’s Christmas Eve but the service has been pretty poor. Firstly we were seated and then told we were in someone else’s seat and then it took over 20 minutes to place our order. Once the food came it was ok but not the best. Our desert came about 1/2 hour after being ordered and the winter crumble of Berries and Apple was a very good imitation of a Rhubarb crumble.

Good food, lovely atmosphere and pleasant staff
J. D. D.
Stopped for a drink such a lovely young girl serving, helpful. We booked Sunday lunch it looked so welcoming. We were given a menu to look at for Sunday. Candles on the table very cosy and clean place.
T.
Stopped for lunch on our way to Wales. Very spacious and dog friendly. Food was hot and tasty . Pleasant staff.
D.
Great food and portions. Another Sunday afternoon place. The selection of meat is good, only one small point is roasties; if they are cut smaller they are easier to get and stay crunchy for service.
However don't let this put you off, décor is homely, service is top, atmosphere hums in gentle conversation in the background, the food and menu gets a 8/10.
G.
Really nice place to have a drink and a meal came up from Exeter for my birthday weekend stayed at the travelodge, and stumbled apon the willy wicket and spent every evening there, Really nice atmosphere....
B. P.
My first visit here and wasn't sure what to expect having seen reviews of only 3.7. What a lovely meal and very attentive staff. Inside was nice and cosy and the food was spot on. Will definitely be visiting again. It deserves more than it's current rating
P. H.
We had a lovely meal and pleasant time last night. Our waitress was very helpful and very apologetic when my wife cut her foot after some glasses where broken by accident by a member of the staff. We did not wish to make a fuss but Carla our waitress spoke to the manager about the Inconvenience. I was surprised he offered my wife a free sweet next time we go there. This assumes we would go back to have a meal just to receive a free sweet. I would have been more happier if the manager add taken the time to talk to us. I would be happy to return again as we have been there many time's in the past however I feel the manager let the side down.
M. K.
Easy to book online. Lovely food, we had lambs koftas, sea bass & roasted salmon - all excellent. Friendly welcome from the staff. Loads of seating in nice surrounding.
K.
When I go there I only ever have one thing which is the chicken pie ( which is amazing when the cook get's it right). Once it was way over cooked to the point the puff pastry was just a flaky mess. A man who I assume was the manager handled it very well; he got the chef to make me a new one and took it off the bill, plus giving me a free mini eton mess for dessert. The 2 of their desserts I have had aren't very nice. Overall it's just average pub food, but in my experience the service has been very good.
K. W.
Our mains were decent but service was a bit below par. The place was full (we grabbed the last remaining table for food) but there was only one person working the bar which meant we had to wait a while to order including a spell when that person was taking telephone bookings / enquiries. They also seemed to forget that we'd ordered desserts and only rushed them out after I chased up.
The Wicket was a staple when I used to visit friends at this end of Bristol years back but I'll probably try other nearby pubs that have been recommended in future.
B. F.
Excellent service, friendly staff, good food
R. B.
Great service last time we visited. Very accommodating. Nice atmosphere and generous food portions.
E. G.
Very Covid secure and the service was excellent, our waitress Rachel couldn't do enough for you. The food was very nice as usual.
J. B.
Given it's on a busy roundabout near a motorway I thought it'd be terrible, but it was a really nice place. Food was decent if not amazing but a good beer selection and good outdoor area.
I. W.
Excellent! Great menu, super polite and quick service, easy parking and access.
C. M.
A gorgeously maintained a classic pub setting, excellent food and friendly, proactive staff.
Only stopped by for a conversation over a light dish but ended up enjoying a delicious platter in a great location.
B. P.
Nice friendly staff, food was nice but could have been faster had to wait a bit.
V. P.
Simple food, good service, pleasant surroundings. Nice place for a drink and a quick easy feed.
J. H.
Cracking pub. Lovely bottle of pinot noir. Kitchen was closed due to covid but the bar staff and landlord were excellent. Great atmosphere.
L. S.
Lovely location with good parking. Hot, tasty food which arrived quickly. Friendly staff who were very happy to make adjustments to the menu. Restaurant and toilets very clean.
R. J.
Food was very good and there is a good atmosphere whenever you go there.
P. A.
First lot of food was luke warm but changed it very quickly. Personally I think it is overpriced for reasonable food although service was very good
C.
Rachael was very attentive, friendly and helpful. Great food as always and very quick service
C. N.
We meet our friends and have a drink. But not impressed that we are unable to get a coffee at 9pm before we leave. On one occasion they ran out of milk. And last week we was told the kitchen had closed. When the coffee machine is behind the bar.
E. C.
Lovely food and staff . Even a good selection of food for my son.
C. T.
I asked for my steak well done. It came out on top of the chips with blood coming out. Although the bought me a new lot of chips and put my steak back on the grill. The person I was with had finished before I had started
G. H.
The Willy Wicket is part of the Village inn group so offers their menu. They are a good place for a reasonably priced lunch of good quality. The atmosphere is of a friendly village pub. Service is normally good and there is a good selection of drinks on offer. You don't feel pressurised to gobble your food up and leave, rather relax and enjoy it.
D. H.
This is not a cheap restaurant but the menu has plenty of options and the food is good. At lunchtime there are meal deals that help to keep the prices reasonable.
The service is always quick while staff are always friendly and efficient. The building has a good feeling with log fires making it snug in winter.
L. R.
Four of us had a Sunday roast. Could not fault anything. Lovely staff. Brilliant and quick service. Meal was delicious. Thank you very much.
V. S.
Sorry Willy Wicket, you've gone down hill! We used to go all the time due to the great service, but tonight, it took ages to get served, ages for anyone to take our plates, and we generally got a feel that people didn't really care. This is when there were still plenty of empty tables, so I can only assume they were short staffed. Food was still good, but service levels are not as good as they were.
j. b.
Went for lunch with a friend. Very friendly staff and excellent service and food.
C. A.
I visited for an evening meal and it was a pleasant enough experience.
I had their 'Chicken & Mushroom' pie. It was nice (looked fantastic) however, there just wasn't much filling inside it.
D. s.
Trying to be a gastro pub but serving average/poor quality food. 3 meals out of 4 were below average. Nobody checked to see if food was ok. Very over priced for the quality of the food. Would not recommend and will not be returning. A shame as it's a lovely looking pub
N. T.
Good sunday roast, with some fantastic crackling if you go the way of pork, or the triple meat dish. Service was quick & food was hot. You will probably need to book ahead for some Sunday scram.
N. C.
Very nice, great food, great service. Dog friendly too
J. B.
Great Sunday lunch. The trio of meats were amazing. The roast potatoes were a little over cooked but can't take away from the rest of the meal.
D. W.
Nice place, historically been great but knocked a star off today as there was no kitchen service running when we went in and had to choose another drink when they had no stock of the first choice off the menu for a friend.
P. N.
Lovely pub, log fires and a good selection of drinks. I think the food is good enough but there is room for improvement. Staff were great though.
C. S.
Recently visited with friends. Had a lovely meal, no complaints from us! Plenty of seating outside. Nice atmosphere and decor.
N. V.
Another Vintage Inn, but there are better ones not too far from here. In comparison to most pubs, The Willy Wicket is a really good pub. Great food (usually), reasonable prices and a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. But in comparison to The Globe (Bath) and The Brassmill (Keynsham), it just isn't quite on the same level, mainly due to customer service.
Ive been here a number of times, but seems to be going downhill. Last time I went to The Willy Wicket was around 2 weeks ago for a Sunday roast. The good was reasonable, though the potatoes were a bit under, the drinks were fine, but the service wasn't great at all... Me and my partner came in, bearing in mind we hadn't booked, and the first member of staff we spoke to just told us to find a table without a reserved sign on it. We found a table, but for 6 and didn't want to take it up unnecessarily. Came back to the bar, different person, who basically told us off for walking around and then sat us at the 6 seater table anyway. After having a main, we thought we'd get dessert, but no-one seed to be paying any attention to us. 15 minutes must have gone by with us having empty plates before I went up to the bar and asked for the dessert menu. The waitress came round 2 minutes later and placed the bill on our table.
Not great really. Will be going to a different Vintage Inn the next time I feel like having a good roast.
M. S.
The food and place was really nice, just wish the service had been a bit quicker, would have been a bit more forgiving if it had been busy. Having said that the food made up for the wait at least
S. L.
All our food was very nice, but the service was a little strange in so far as we were told to order at the bar, so we did, but both tables either side of us received table service! We will go back, but hopefully the service was a one off
S. M.
Wonderful food. Great service. Glad we went.
T. H.
About the fifth time I have visited. Today was not up to the normal standard. The roast was lukewarm, and many of the vegetables were undercooked. A shame as it's usually nice.
S. R.
Yeah, it's ok. It's convenient to stop by on the way home from work. The beer garden has a lovely view of the petrol station or the ring road depending on where you sit so make sure you are with good company who can distract you from this. As for the beers on tap, well...it's ok.
D. H.
Warm atmosphere with log fires and easy seating. Extensive menu offering good traditional food. Service good and would visit again. Easy to find and good parking
M. H.
Vintage Inn chain. Food was ok when it was eventually served - strange really as we were the only customers in at the time. Clean and comfortable. Staff were very nice.
N. K.
I ate their today & i wasnt impressed. I had a lamb shank pie which portion wise was small n served with mash with peas n beans. It looked n tasted bland. Other peoples food looked quite nice. The prices arent cheap n would only go back again if someone else was paying
R. J.
Excellent service and very tasty food. Perfect sized portions leaving 3 empty plates. Highly recommended.
J. S.
We really enjoyed it thanks.
m. l.
We booked in advance, both meals were fine, although the pizza was a bit overdone, otherwise drinks & food good.
C. P.
We have always loved eating here in the past but have no intention of returning. Extremely poor presentation and dishes not as described in the menu. The potato/bean/pea cake which sounded delicious turned out to be a dollop of mash with a couple of separate spoonfuls of veg on either side. It was hard to find any goats cheese on the bruschetta/goats cheese/onion marmalade starter. My husband's main course of pork belly was so small as to be laughable - not so funny when you are paying though.
Absolute rip off
J. T.
Great food relaxed atmosphere and lovely outside area to enjoy the sun. Staff were all polite and served with a smile. Great team.
P. S.
Lovely atmosphere friendly staff and food was good. Enjoyed our Friday lunch
k. c.
I would just like to praise the staff especially the chef who I didn't get her name for helping myself and my mother yesterday the 19th of July, we went there to celebrate my daughters graduation and we had our starters which was very tasty and while the main meals were arriving my mother became very faint and passed out twice, I was very worried as she is just getting over chemo and radiotherapy and then I started to faint myself something I do when under stress, the staff were extremely helpful with helping us to get over this by bringing cold water, cups of tea and sitting with us in the fresh air. Thankyou so much for all your help and hope to return again soon without all the drama 😊
C. S.
Was not imoressed. Dark inside and food was not acceptable. Sent food back to kitchen. Second plate of food better. Waitress was very helpful and pleasant.
J. D. D.
Nice decor and atmosphere in this pub. Sunday lunch is very tasty but can occasionally be served quite cold. I attend regularly as when it’s good it’s very good
S. B.
First time I'd been here in a long time but service was good and food was excellent
A. W.
Excellent Sunday lunch - beautiful food, well cooked, attentive staff - careful but not overwhelming COVID-19 precautions, all round good experience 🙂
L. J.
Quite good. Food is good and reasonably priced. Nice clean well kept pub with lots of character. Some of the staff sometimes a bit moody.
A. J.
I was indecised between 3 and 4 starts. The food was very good. Although the fish plate could have had some vegetables. It came a bit empty.
J. W.
Had a few drinks here with my sister, and have been a number of times for food as a family. Lovely environment to eat in and good service.
J. 2.
Maybe could do with introducing some ipa or craft beers but a nice place to go. House burger fantastic.
a. d.
Food and staff are great
A. H.
Service was good, food however, I had a chicken, leek and mushroom pie, the chicken (what there was of it) was dry, very little sauce, and the mushrooms and leeks?? Not convinced there were any in the pie at all.
T. C.
Nice pub, good food, and friendly staff... unfortunately noisy in garden next to ring road and M4 motorway. Better for evening & winter indoor dinning!
O. G. (.
Pub food, small menu, prices a but higher than you would expect, tables very close together and the food took an absolute age to come.
H. A.
Lovely pub in a nice building. Didn't eat but food looked great. Shame it's by a main road but that's not the pubs fault it's the road which was built around it. But knocked off 1 for the traffic
D. B.
Bar lady might look a bit more receptive.
P. J.
Food is really lovely, however, service is amazing. Callum especially is wonderful, just the kind of person you need facing the public. He really is an asset to The Willy Wicket.
I. B.
Decent pub in an area filled with awful pubs. The food (especially pizza) is good. Vegan Tips: there aren't many, if any, options.
p. t.
The ap in the garden is very easy to use with smart phones, and we got served promptly, manager came over and he was very helpful
S. A.
Delicious food as always, however, service a little slow and had some issues with the starters. Would still highly recommend
S. P.
Lovely place good beer and menu , staff very friendly.
K. T.
Was OK, seats bit grubby, service good, food average
N. C.
Nice pub. Food was ok but very friendly staff and great service. A bit too cold to sit down and enjoy a rainy afternoon.
M. B.
Great place for Sunday lunch, not too busy and good food for the price.
M. T.
Food is nice, but has gone downhill from a few years ago. Some errors like all roast potatoes black and inedible etc.
H. A.
enjoyed our meal but having to wait half an hour for a coffee really not on, don't think we will bother again.
K. C.
Really friendly staff. We stayed all afternoon last Wednesday and they were helpful and didn't mind our little toddler having a crawl about.
S. A.
Can't cope with serving food - wasn't busy, but still a long wait to be seated, and a very long wait for someone to take our order. The food was OK once it arrived.
S. C.
Nice pub, quiet, lovely surroundings, a little pricey on the food, but we'll worth it, parking is easy and has disabled access to, take a drive here.
G. G.
The food here is amazing especially the Sunday roasts well worth a visit, not to mention the very helpful staff..
I would highly recommend it...
M. T.
Lovely venue, staff friendly but the food was disappointing.
K. H. (.
Lovely friendly pub. Good varied menu. Staff went out their way to make a celebration meal very special
P. S.
Very nice food and drinks. Waitress was lovely and couldn't do enough. Worth it.
O.
Unfortunately they had run out of all 3 options we wanted on menu. However i would give benefit of doubt that eat out to help out may have changed customers purchasing patterns.
S. W.
A cut above your average pub. Really nice range of country pub like food. Recommended coming here on a Sunday. However service is awfully slow.
L. G.
Lovely meal in friendly pub. Visit at least 3 times a year when staying with family locally, when we come over from Norfolk.
E. M.
Very well looked after even though we were a large group. Food was good, wide range drinks.
G. D.
Standard vintage inns style interior and menu. Service is friendly and if you book, you are more than likely to get a table. Beer garden outside which is nice, spoilt slightly by the ring road right next door.
B. J.
Not the pub or service it used to be.
Also the app doesn't allow you to use paypal and they don't take any cash.
unless you have your bank. card on you, you cant pay.
J. C.
Much much improved since my last post. Had a lovely meal with great service
M. W.
Lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great food. Will definetely be back again.
A. H.
Lovely meals, nice atmosphere and great service especially during the pandemic.
N. R.
The staff are really friendly, the food is okay but they have a good choice of drinks.
J.
Great food and a good selection of drinks.
Service is 50/50, sometimes it's slow, sometimes they give out free macaroons
P. M.
Nice pub and service but the food was all reheated in dishes. Not that impressed.
C. A.
Small and cosy with good service and excellent food. Outside seating and parking but well attended so arrive early. Toilets are upstairs.
M. T.
The waitress was amazing today one of the nicest girls ever and food fabulous
O. B.
Excellent food and service friendly staff. Only downside was the coffee it was awful. Even the replacement was not drinkable .

K. H.
Good place to eat Christmas menu let down by under cooked parsnips but other than that ok
S. J.
Lovely place, nice pub food welcoming staff
A. L.
Half an hour wait between starter and main at lunch is totally unacceptable. Ruined an otherwise very nice meal.
S. N.

M. N.

I like to pop in after work and try an ale very pleasant atmosphere. I even left my bag behind and they moved it to the cellar until I returned. Thank you very much.
d. d.

D. Q.
Food was delicious and had a very nice atmosphere. Lunch prices are very good as well.
Y. P.
Great food and drinks, friendly staff
C. P.
Nice atmosphere. Quaint. Food a little pricey. Lots of stairs to get to the toilet. Not much of an ale selection.
L. B.
Very nice atmosphere, plenty of outdoors space and friendly staff. However the food is of poor quality and the drinks are very expensive. I won't be returning for these reasons.
C. H.
Not our best experience, had better there. Although by the time we finished was half empty felt they were trying to push us out the door.
A. W.
Food was very good and the staff were very welcoming all round a very pleasant night
C. W.
