W. F.Had a meal after bowling, Staff were very friendly and helpful. The meals came quite promptly after ordering and were delicious. Great food for the price. Next time in the area will have no problems revisiting.
A. D.My wife and I were looking for a simple pub or tavern to eat. We saw this and popped in on a rainy day. We wanted some "typical" UK food. We were nervous, as some reviews had been poor, but we found a nice place, friendly staff, and good value meals. The Google Page lists its prices @ $$, but we found the prices comparable to chain American Family restaurants, very budget friendly. Overall, a great evening for two tired Americans. So glad we ignored the negative folks and gave it a chance. Thanks to Jackie (Jacky), and the folks at the bar whose names we missed!

R. V.We tried the wing challenge today and it is quite a good portion. The price is good and food service excellent. However, when I was standing at the bar to order, the lady at the cashier completely ignored me and called for the other customers. These customers were standing away from her and queueing for another till. And I was there literally directly in front of her. It made me feel really bad and embarrassed. So I advice if you visit this place is to order everything over the app.

a. p.Booked for lunch as a pre theatre meal due to its location in the Red Dragon Centre. As part of the Greene King chain, we were spoilt for choice as the menu has so much to offer.
We chose the "Chick n Mix" selection which was 2 items of Chicken (Skewers, Coated chicken, Bbq wings, chicken fillets, Schnitzel, 2 Sides from Fries, Chips, Dressed side salad, Mac n cheese, Garlic Bread, Corn on the Cob, Coleslaw, Onion Rings - together with a sauce from Tenant style bbq, Piri piri & Sweet Chilli at an excellent £9 99 z exceptional value. Pints of diet coke with our meal was priced at £2 40. Thoroughly enjoyed our food & will definitely make another visit to the chain

m. s.Great food after a visit to the ODEON Cinema. XL mixed grill was great value for money. Gins were slightly dearer the OTHER large chains, but sill good drinks.
T.Food was fantastic, went with Mum, we both enjoyed our meals and the servers Jess and Louise were amazing. Both were super friendly and helpful and made the experience all the more enjoyable. Got a picture of the Apple Pie Sundae as well, tasted as stunning as it looks - made by Jess so all around 10/10. We will be back soon!!
R. G.Been to the centre loads of time but never actually called into the tavern food with some mates. On the off chance someone sitting near us had the chicken supreme challenge meal and it looked good so I went for it! Although the food took 45 mins to arrive it was worth the wait, I would recommend eating the breaded chicken first as if you leave bits of it for the end of the meal then it feels dry (even though it wasn't).
The downside of the place (hence 4 stars) was that the onion bajis were very very mushy, the staff were "ok", the drinks were missing an inch off the top of the glass because we asked for no ice and we also had only knives for cutlery. We asked for forks but were ignored and the waitress proceed to clear a table nearby then disappeared so I stole them from another empty table.

The mango chicken was lovely although went very cold very quickly which was odd. The wings, deep fried and crisped to perfection. Although someone may need anatomy lessons as my 6x wing order included three chicken legs....

B. F.Good safety measures in place. Staff helpful and friendly. My husband was pleased with his Hunters Chicken but I was disappointed with my Chicken Tikka. There wasn't much chicken and it was lukewarm as was the Nan bread. There was an additional charge of 93p on the bill and I asked 2 separate people what it was. They said they didn't know but would find out and let me know. No one came back.
I would not use this place again until the food has greatly improved.

T. W.First time coming here. Shown to a table for two but no explanation given as to the order of things. Sat there for a while until I realised you have to order and pay for your food and drink at the bar like you would in a Weatherspoons. Food took quite a while to come and while waiting a few other customers were chasing up the staff as to where their food was. When the food did come it was pretty good. We both had steaks which were hot and cooked to how we had requested so that is certainly a plus. A bit more interaction from the staff would certainly improve things.

C.2nd visit unfortunately probably the last, food is lovely, but staff dont interact with customers, dont check up, we had to ask for forks and napkins which should be basic when given our food as our starters were finger food and we had one napkin on table...ordered 2nd round of drinks and after 20 mins had to go to bar to remind them as trying to catch attention of staff walking around pub was impossible. Please please for all that is good in world clean your toilets had to leave without using them because they were so bad.

H. J.Had a fabulous visit at the Bay Tavern today. It’s only there second day of being open and it was busy but Kate and her Team really looked after us. We felt very safe and there was plenty of hand sanitiser and social distance in place. Food and atmosphere was lovely. Will be back soon for another visit.

D. V. H.Only ate here once, but my experience was very good. I didn't really understood how it worked, but a nice waitress told me to order my food at the counter. Service was very quick, the food was nice and how I wanted it to be. The portion was about just the right size, maybe just a bit to the smaller side. It felt a bit like a pub and seeing they organized soccer evenings, I can see this being quite a fun place to be. The worst thing I can say about it is that personally, the mayonnaise was a bit too sweet for me, but if that's the worst your restaurant does, then it's quite all right.

50minutes to receive food, only came out after we complained about waiting so long.
Then ordered ice cream for desert afterwards which again, 40-45minutes later we complained and then it came out, wasn’t many people in there at all to even suffice the long waiting times either.
Staff/management really have no communication there, service is very poor. After this recent issue which has been similar each time we have visited, we wouldn’t return again.

A. C.We usually visit here before going to see shows at Cardiff Millennium Centre, but there is often a wait, last time was an hour, this time was only 20 minutes. We booked a table, but was put in a dark area by the stairs, had to use torches on our mobile phones as did the man on the table next to us. The bar really needs a second queue specifically for drink purchases, as my daughter had to queue with people ordering food for our second drinks which you can't get any other way. Food is tidy enough and staff have always been pleasant and courteous.
C. V.Lovely place. Only wanted a coffee which they serve all hot drinks. But disappointed to here they don't serve decaf coffee or tea. Generally felt that I was putting the barmaid out by asking for a coffee, when it's a machine that makes it for you but also it was very quiet so can't really use that cars for an excuse. Hopefully next time I visit, I'll have a more pleasant experience.

The real winner here though is value for money. Each day has a different deal like 8oz steak and chips for £5 or 15 big, two-bone chicken wings for the same price. While the food is never going to be the best you've ever had (although the wings are actually amazing), it's fantastic for the price you pay.
They also have challenge meals (although no prizes as I understand) such as the 24oz steak, chips, onion rings, peas, mushrooms and onions. All of that could easily feed two and only costs £16!
My colleagues and I go here twice a week now to take advantage of the great deals. Definitely recommended for a bite that won't break the bank!

My husband and myself have booked a room in the travel lodge for a night out down the bay and just happened upon the bay tavern for a swift half before going to the hotel to check in. We were served by a very pleasant young lady called Tracy, who was very accommodating and chatty. So much so that we came back later for a meal, which was served to us within quarter of an hour of us ordering. Its only around the corner of the hotel, very convenient, nice decor and very relaxed atmosphere, they've obviously listened to the negative comments and upped their game 🤷♀️ 👍

a. E.Food was great however I booked in advance a table here on the 25 /8/19 for 12.30 and when I got there there was no record of this booking. I even showed the barman my email my booking confirmation and he didnt seem that bothered that i had one. It was lucky that in this instance there were tables available for us to sit as it was a Bank Holiday weekend. There is definetly a lack of communication sonewhere.!
i.The food is great value but there always seems to be a massive queue and only one bar staff on so takes forever to get served... It really let's the place down and after eating here 3 or 4 times a week for a month it's exactly the same very poor service and massive queue's

N. C.I haven't eaten food here but often stop in for a quick drink if I'm visiting the cinema. It has a friendly, family orientated atmosphere (at least in the day, late afternoon). If a match is playing they'll normally have that running on a couple of well placed TVs. I've always found the staff to be friendly and helpful but there can be delays getting served if a lot of people are buying food or cocktails. I've always enjoyed my admittedly brief visits.

L. F.I like the flaming grill change they have a variety of meal choices. We enjoyed our meals but had to ask for a few things missing from our meals like jerk sauce in a jerk chicken sub. The staff were polite and sorted out the problems. It has a nice atmosphere with a pool table. We ordered copperberg ciders but the glasses had lipstick marks etc so we just used straws in the bottles.

The Tavern has recently been refurbished and it has come really nice and the food menu has been nicely improved with a whole lot more of choices. The Red Dragon Centre is a great entertainment centre with loads to keep everyone happy: Bowling 🎳, Cinema and plenty to eat and drink, and there is the Capital Radio station too. If you #visitingcardiffcity, this is one place you just have to visit.
