D. C.I like this pub as its half way on my exercise route so I can have a few pints & finish my walk off.
All the bar staff are friendly, pleasant & helpful...beer is kept well & food is nice, honest pub grub, although a tad on the expensive side but that may be because of coming out of covid or general increase in the cost of living. Hopefully, that will get back to normal at some time in the future.
Overall a nice, friendly pub with good beer & food.
G. S.Had a great Sunday lunch, reasonably priced too. Staff were lovely and very helpful. We were able to take our two small dogs with us and when we arrived the staff had thoughtfully put out water and some biscuits for them. Only one small gripe, we had to wait 35 minutes for the food to arrive. Definitely would go again though.
M. N.This was a lovely place to enjoy a drink and meal. Now it's great, the new manager Jade is a gem. The staff are fantastic, they are all welcoming, polite and efficient. The drinks and meals are reasonably priced. My meal was well proportioned and above average. A must place to visit more than once. You wont be disappointed. My opinion.

P. B.The staff made us feel so welcome on arrival a lovely pint of Brains SA and pino blush for the wife. We’d booked a table for Easter lunch, the roast beef dinner was delicious and the sticky toffee pudding has left me happy for the rest of the day. The best family pub in Pontcanna, great food and good beer. I’m glad we booked a table as it’s the best Sunday roast I’ve had in along time. We’ll be back again soon
J. A.Great, friendly, service and plenty of great beers on tap. Lots of homemade dishes on the menu - can definitely recommend the cottage pie - and food was delivered quickly and was hot and delicious.

l. p.Lovely pub booked for Sunday lunch. Booking process very easy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was great very big portions thought I may explode after the biggest pub pudding I've ever had. Very dog friendly - water and dog treats for free brought to the table. All in all I would really recommend The Halfway as we had a lovely visit

T. G.At the edge of Pontcanna Fields, and around 20 minutes walk from the city centre, the Halfway pub brings you a traditional food and drink selection. Situated at the top end of Cathedral Road, it provides an ideal spot to stop for a much needed refreshment. A good selection of Brains beers sold here. Worth a visit if you are in the Pontcanna area in Cardiff. Maybe more suited for adults.

G. T.A beautiful pub in Pontcanna. Old school vibes with a fresh look. The beer is always superb here and the place is very clean. The covid measures are perfect! not too invasive but fully implemented, we felt very safe. Ordering off the brains app is so easy and helps with less contact for the staff.
The team working were brilliant and couldn't do enough to make our visit easy and relaxing. Well worth a visit!

S. M.Had a few beers in here on Saturday. Watched the end of the football and then sat outside. Tried a few different ales which were superb. Not too pricey either. Decent little courtyard out the back to sit in which catches the sun a bit. They're a dog friendly pub also. The bar staff were really friendly and helpful with directions. Would definitely come back back for a few scoops again.

There is even an old style skittles lane that can be rented out and we had great fun playing when we went with our family. Definitely a great pub to visit. We will be returning.

P.The Halfway has been my regular for decades and should be one of the best 'real' pubs in Cardiff. Unfortunately over the last few years it has gone downhill. Since it was refurbished years ago, it has been badly managed and maintained.
Much of the fixed furniture is falling apart and the gents toilets are shockingly dirty and desperately need sorting out including new hand dryers, regular refilling the soap dispensers and loo rolls.
I haven't eaten here for a while because they always used to run out of many items on the menu.
Also, a hygiene rating of 1 doesn't inspire confidence!
Come on Brains, get your act together.

I would say this place is styled in the manner of a traditional pub rather than the more modern offerings you'll find closer to the centre of Cardiff.
Parking can be a bit of an issue although there are spaces to be found. Parking is more of an issue during the summer months.
Toilets could do with a bit of tender lover care. Failing that just a spruce up and maybe some heat. Always feels so so cold in there.

It's your standard typical looking bar with a great collection of Welsh beers and a nice selection of spirits.
The seating area in side is somewhat cosy and pleasent and there is a beer garden but it's a bit naff, it's situated in a sort of court yard surrounded by the pubs building which makes it difficult to receive any signal.
10 minute walk from the town centre on quite a busy road. I you wanted to park you could either struggle to find a space on a housing street or park in the car park for the fields just opposite the pub.
A. Q.This is a nice pub with good food and beers. Run by local brewery Brains.
No parking as such but there is car parking opposite at the entrance to the fields. Also roadside parking in nearby street but watch out for permit only areas and almost all are time limited.
