I went here for a Sunday roast and it was delicious. The lamb shank, roast potatoes, and veg were perfectly cooked and the gravy was tasty. They have a great range of craft beers and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Cardiff.

Nice cosy pub tucked away nere the national museum of Wales off ST Andrews Place. With lots of pictures of old cardiff and old judges. Good food and selection of Drinks.
V. V.
Very cozy restaurant with a summer garden! The food is very tasty and the staff is excellent!

Went for Sunday lunch with 8 of us. Couldn't fault a thing. Generous portions, all freshly cooked. As many Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and gravy as you want. Superb value for money, friendly staff, well kept beers and good wine list. Most definitely recommended for a nice Sunday lunch.

Stunning food, excellent service and wonderful staff. Have had many drinks in the Pen and Wig over the years, but somehow this is the first time I've been in for food. Wow I've been missing out! The only aspect of the afternoon which was anything but perfect, was the incredibly rude table sat nearby. They spoke to every member of staff as though they were less than human, snatched food off of plates going back to the kitchen and demanded refunds. It was absolutely mortifying. They found excuse to complian about absolutely everything and made it abundantly clear they had never worked in a customer facing role, especially not hospo. Cannot wait to come back as the food and drink was exceptional. It's been a very long time since we have been out for such a great meal (at an excellent price point). Thank you to all the hard working staff, see you soon!

We went to the Pen & Wig for dinner. Our dog Ollie was made very welcome, which immediately helped us to relax! The atmosphere was lovely and there was an impressive range of draught beers and ciders. The menu was varied and interesting. We all enjoyed our meals which were generous and nicely cooked. The service was excellent and we would definitely recommend. We'll be back when next visiting Cardiff.

Rugby Day! Really good place to come after the game. Stupidly we hadn’t booked but the manager was great and he managed to find us a table. It was very busy with queues at the bar but staff were all on top form and service was great. Food was lovely and served quickly considering how busy it was. We will be booking for the next game!

Excellent Sunday lunch. Nicely cooked tender beef, a perfect Yorkshire pudding, vegetables done nicely with still a bit of crunch to them and roast potatoes which were topped up if required. Good selection of cask beers and a pleasant environment. Top marks!
C. P.
Lovely pub, nice find when trying to book for somewhere to eat using online search. The food was lovely, came out hot and had some different flavour ciders which was nice. Only small things I personally didn't like was my whole name being shown on a piece of paper on our reserved table and no physical lunch menu. Using phone was able to see lunch menu offers. Got charged lunch main meal price but not on one of the desserts even though it was before their cut off time of 4pm. Overall nice pub lunch. If back in Cardiff again worth the walk to go again.

We visited Cardiff a few weeks ago and had one of the best meals of our UK trip at Pen & Wig. The chicken pies were so good...the pastry dome was picture-worthy! The house salad (I added chicken) was a hearty and healthy meal. Highly recommend!!!
M. G.
Lovely atmosphere here, we went on a Tuesday evening and took part in the pub quiz. Friendly, funny host and would recommend anyone to give it a go at £1 pp but it can get busy. Burgers were tasty and what you'd expect for pub grub.
A. M.
What can i say about this big pub except fabulous. Just off the beaten track so not manic. Many thanks to John for sorting us a table at very short notice. Great atmosphere. Food was excellent and fairly priced. Burgers to die for. Fantastic Range of cask ales from numerous brewers. Will definitely return when next in Cardiff. Absolutely recommended.
J. M.
A busy Pub with helpful staff, dealing with students well and very accommodating to people's different needs. It can be a bit too busy (for me) at times. The Pen and Wig has a decent choice of beverages and priced as reasonably as you'd expect for a spot in this area. From my experience, I would certainly recommend this pub for its nice old school indoor feel and its well lit modern outdoor area.

Due to a last minute cancellation we ended up having our wedding meal at the Pen and Wig. Leigh was superb and went the extra mile in ensuring our party were looked after. Fab food, great service. Definitely recommend.
M.
Great pub, dog friendly. Staff are always welcoming too!
Food and drinks always served within good time
K. P.
Fab beer garden full of adorable pups!
Good selection of craft beers, Izzy and the rest of the staff were lovely and food was fresh and tasty :)
R. M.
A lovely welcoming pub within the legal district of Cardiff city center. Has a spacious beer garden in rear of establishment, and a small seating area out front.
Food menu is quite unique compared to many other pubs in that it offers a modern spin to traditional pub grub. The prices are very affordable and the quality is excellent.
Wide range of real ales and spirits.
On street car parking available. Free WiFi. Highly recommended.
B. L.
Nice atmospheric bar with a good choice of interesting beers and ciders, very big beer garden too which is ideal in the summertime.
g. c.
Great pub, old fashioned and comfortable interior, good cask and craft beer, great garden, friendly and well staffed
E. V.
Amazing location and lovely pub food. The meat pie was a bit mushy inside but definitely not bad, cod was perfect. Service wasn't too quick but that helped us relaxing a bit and enjoying our food more. A super nice break and at a very good price too. Highly recommended!
k. A.
Booked table for Sunday roast,
Easy to Book
Positives:
Good food free extra roasties 👍
Lovely traditional pub
Walking distance from Central Cardiff
Negatives:
40% of the menu was not available
Staff slow to attend (pub not busy) forgot part of the order
Give it ago, is a nice old fashion pub with good food.
M. H.
Felt very safe here. You have to wait to be seated. Fairly quiet but good selection of beers and real ales. Excellent service and friendly staff.
A. L.
Great pub, 8 ales that's why we went even though it was the Wales V France match and very busy, the staff were helpful and smiley. Pub had a nice feel to it, didn't eat but food looked plentiful. Will return.
C. B.
A hidden gem of a beer garden, great range of ales and lovely food. Staff were so nice. Can’t wait to come here in the summer.
J. W.
Pre booked a table prior to Wales rugby international on 6 Nov 2021. We were made to feel very welcome the moment we walked in. Selection of real ales was exceptional and the food was tasty with quick service. Every staff member was friendly, cheerful and chatty. Great atmosphere before a big game even though the pub was full it didn't appear overcrowded. Will be returning soon.
K. J.
Had our Christmas lunch there yesterday, the service and food were first class. We all were Senior citizens and were made to feel very welcome. Also we all felt very safe in the current circumstances.
Will definitely be back there again. 😊
C. H.
Great pub. Good service and atmosphere. Good food and drink options. Recommend for a get together indoors or in the great beer garden.
S. J.
Excellent choice of ales and cider. Really nice atmosphere and friendly helpful staff
C. M.
We received Excellent service from everyone involved in our large family meal. Booking was easy online, the gents thoroughly enjoyed the real ales that were on offer although the ladies might say we had a few too many. Our food was spot on and the staff even took the time to make a fuss of my daughters dog. A pub as it should be.
C. R.
Good selection of beer and good value lunch meals.
Large enough areas to have 15 plus around a table

Turned up on the offchance on Sunday at about 2pm....the friendly hostess who greeted us explained that there had been a lot of food orders as it was Father's Day, but if we were prepared to wait for 45 minutes food was available. As waiting over a nice pint in a pleasant pub garden is exactly a burden, we went for it, and it turned out to be only half an hour or so. I had a very tasty burger, wife was very happy with her sirloin steak which was cooked rare to perfection, and son declared himself very pleased with his scampi and chips. Classic, perfectly cooked pub grub, a very well kept pint, friendly and polite staff in a spacious and well kept heated beer garden....couldn't have been more pleased.
J. C.
Dog friendly pub with a nice atmosphere near the Uni buildings and accommodation. Good pub food, friendly staff and a nice pint! A huge, massive thank you to the lovely member of staff who found our car keys the morning after! We will be back!
P. R.
Watched staff be berated by an awful table who snatched food from plates going back to the kitchen and shouted the entire time until they got their money back. No wonder nobody wants to work in hospo anymore, there was a bit of a wait on food but you don't scream at a fellow human being for that. When the food did arrive, it was brilliant, we turned up late in service and were amazed to get a table. Will be back, wine was brilliant too and an excellent price point. Service was charming throughout, some people are truly awful.
F. T.
I love this pub! We've been attending as a group of gamers and been welcomed since 2015. Great vegan options, accessible toilet and outside heated area.
w. R.
First time in the Pen & Wig and it won't be the last. Booked a table, which was clearly marked on arrival. The lady greeted us with a friendly smile and showed us to the table.
Friendly staff, Food was delicious, prompt service and a good pint. What more could you ask for.
L. D.
Myself, I live in the Roath area of cardiff, so it's nice to have a cheeky pint calling your name half way home after shopping in town. Its nicely situated, and not a bad place to go if you're after a couple of cold ones after finishing off your city Hall, museum tour. I was quite surprised when I first went there, because of the spacious back gardens you never see due to the close proximity to the centre. Give it a shot.
t. l.
Cosy. Quality. Great pint. Nice beer garden. Hidden gem.
J. E.
If Carlsberg made pubs...however the irony being that you would probably wouldn't find any Carlsberg here. And quite rightly so if you enjoy your beer from a crafty point of view. The Pen & Wig has good selection of craft ale and has new guest beers in on a regular basis. The food is very good and the staff are awesome. Large beer garden and probably one of the sunniest in Cardiff for its location near town centre. I've always considered it my local, although I don't live near by.
F. R.
The specialties of this pub are, with no doubts, the burgers, best on burgers Wednesday.
There is also a good selection of crafted and bottled beers.
A. A.
One of the best beer gardens in Cardiff in my opinion! Foods great! Staff are even better! Reasonable prices with good atmosphere and interesting people.
J. R.
Lovely pub with fantastic food and great selection of beers
C. G.
Lovey little pub hidden away. Perfect beer garden for a lovely afternoon in the sun. The staff were lovely and more than helpful even when busy. Will definitely be back.
L. W.
Highly recommend. Lovely Sunday roast in the beer garden, which is a little gem of a place. Nice ales on tap...what's not to like?
D. R.
Fabulous! My food was so delicious that I didn't want to finish it because then it would be gone!!!! 😊
A. L.
Bar staff and manager were friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the banter as well!
J. R.
Great place half term week so nice and quiet, great app to use as well!!
P. H.
Friendly service. Food was acceptable for the price I paid.
P. B.
Great pub with great staff! Have been multiple times during the lockdown and they have always treated our table with utmost respect and made us feel very comfortable in regard to the COVID restrictions! Would recommend to everyone
P. W.
Great food, great service friendly staff, and dog friendly
H. W.
Managed to get a table by chance on the weekend due to a cancellation, the safety measures they have in place were great and explained to everyone on their way in by the manager. plenty of hand sanitizer freely available, we were very impressed with how the business has dealt with the current climate and will definitely be returning. Staff and food were lovely. Excellent visit all round.
M. D.
Love this place. Had a drink and some food. Staff were pleasant. Only moan was that when we went to put the umbrella on the table up it knocked the drinks over as it was so low to the table!
J.
Waitress were very friendly but I have to say the the chief is the best one , we ate different burger s and they were fabulous . We will repeat , good atmosphere, good attention, good food, good music and good garden !!!!
S. W.
Outdoor heaters to warm you up if needed, decent cider at a reasonable price, definitely recommend this place and will definitely returning
G. M.
Very nice pub. The food and service are very good, and the beer garden is delightful. A bit expensive, but you get what you pay for - quality food and a nice atmosphere.
V. B.
Lovely pub in a peaceful location. Large beer garden, good selection of lager, beer and whiskies. JD honey, so a great place as far as I'm concerned. Spent a couple of hours in the beer garden with families, Internet surfers, young and old. Staff were friendly, polite and the banter was great. Definitely worth a visit.
J. 9.
Staff were great, very responsive. Tables cleared regularly and cleaned between sittings. You need to use the app to order at the moment, but this was easy and drinks were brought very quickly.
Edit: forgot to mention, nice outside area - under cover and they have space heaters.
G. D.
Nice beer garden, two different Lillie's ciders on. Pineapple and tropical fruits. Both were lush
S. T.
Great outside garden, good service, especially from Gabby.
M. Y.
Nice to see John has managed to open, despite the fact he’d stand more chance turning a profit on boots corner(which if you’ve seen him you’d know Is a feet 😂🤣😂)! He’s very enthusiastic about you using his secret passage it’s a bit anticlimactic which is more than can be said about the food. We had a Sunday lunch and it was delightful. Both had lamb shanks which were consistent and great. Veg was lovely I’m driving so didn’t have a pint but I’m sure the booze is fine as well. Cracking little pub make a reservation turn up on time follow the rules and it’ll be all gravy. Oh the gravy was good as well 😂 and the legends just sent some one out for custard for little old me!
P. W.
Great food , friendly staff and dog friendly
D. W.
Sweet pub not far from the city buildings in Cardiff. Food is nice and the choice of drinks us very good. Nice feel even when busy and even though the staff are normally very busy they are helpful and friendly. Easy access through the back for walkers or crutch users.great beer garden too for that sunny day
M. B.
This was a real gem of a discovery. It was like walking into a pub on the set of Harry Potter. Little bottles showcasing the beers and ciders on the bar, all with prices, a back bar shelving full of gins/rums all sorts with suggestions for combinations, loads of offers and double ups etc. The staff were enthusiastic and smart, service was quick even tho the place was heaving! On a wednesday night too! Fab beer garden with sheltered area and heaters, clean and decorative. Indoors lots of tables, different heights and secluded sections. All in what I would call Harry Potter style. The menus looked interesting although we didn't eat we will certainly be back to try the food soon. Toilets very clean and well stocked. A magical place in the heart of Cardiff.
C. L.
A proper pub. Good, friendly service. Good food and drink. Shame about the big TV screens.
J. R.
Great atmosphere a must see inside for the memorable pictures
P. W.
Good selection of real ales to choose from, reasonable pub menu, food is good quality and well put together. Large mostly covered beer garden.
P. R.
Very pleasing comfortable pub. 8 real ales great choice. Friendly staff highly Recommended
C. A.
Great service, decent range of ales and food. Covered outdoor space - pretty essential at the current time but distinctly lacking in numerous other nearby pubs!
P. M.
Great, thanks Ben and Jack...great food too!!
S. P. J.
Great pub, good service, and a nice gin selection aswell which is always a bonus in my books 😃😃
V. P.
Old time favourite in Cardiff. Lots of good memories there, having had my first pint in their great beer garden more than ten years ago. Great food and brew, terrific atmosphere on a hot summer day in the beer garden, or a cozy drink inside on a rainy winter evening.
S. T.
Good atmosphere, great selection of drinks including a wide variety of wines, vodka, rum, whiskey. This venue, featuring in the 'Good Beer Guide' for the last 8 years, is fantastic for variety, more specifically... a continually changing array of great Ales, that are supplied by a very wide range of brewerys.
Love this place!
R. P.
Great pub if you're in to real ales and s good natter
C. R.
Interesting selection of beers, which change frequently. Surprised they had no traditional bitter today, but really enjoyed their draught brown ale. The food was good and they have an extensive selection of vegan and vegetarian meals.
R. V. (.
Been here a few times with work. It's a nice pub, plenty of seating. I much prefer sitting outside on hot days as the inside is really dark. The food is great, plenty of options to drink and staff are really nice. I'd recommend the chocolate fudge cake if you've got room 😍
J. H.
Tuesday afternoon quiet but still a nice place for a drink. Welcoming bar staff, offers to try the various ales, a good selection to hand.
J. M.
Amazing service and food. One of our group was GF free and the lady who served us highlighted the GF free options for us so it would be easier for us to pick an item. It was so much appreciated! <3
C. J.
Very good range of beer and cider range, including good offers during the week. The food could be better though. It's a bit basic, and now that 29 Park Place has shut, I'd love to see them improve their food to match the beer.
M. B.
One of, if not my fav pub in Cardiff. Not sure if I want to post this review and spoil the secret haha 😉 Lovely beer garden out back for sunny days. Although it's situated in student ville this pub tends to attract more young professionals than anything. Lovely wood decor inside.
T. R.
Great pub for outdoor drinking. Staff are great and very friendly. Food was surprisingly good.
C. F.
This is a great find just off the main shopping routes and we'll worth the extra 5 minute walk out of the town. The garden area is lovely. The food is excellent, plenty of choice and at a reasonable price. Not your usual, run of the mill pub grub. Much more choice and more restaurant standard. I will definitely go again.
P. L.
My favorite pub in Cardiff. The staff, food and selection of drinks are top notch. They could have more vegan options but I believe they are looking into it. Beer garden Is awesome as it has an under cover area (and blankets if it's cold) without blocking the sun on nice days. 10 / 10 !
N. Y.
Lovely old pub with great period features.
The owners of this place have done a fantastic job of keeping the decor up to date without detracting anything from the original features of the gorgeous building.
The staff were very friendly and the food was very well priced.
Also some very nice mulled wine on offer :)
M. H.
Food was good, manager was a little short, asked us to leave after 2 hours (covid) despite no further guests waiting for our seats. We weren't told of the 2 hour limit until 15 mins before the end just when we were about to order food.
M. A.
One of the few pubs in the city centre with a decent real ale offer. Big beer garden - all very well organised for Covid
T.
Plenty of real ale, international beers and your standard tap lager. If that's not your thing, you can always choose from their great selection of cider, spirits and Gin of all flavours to suit any taste. Good pub food is always a needed addition and with the cosy heated beer garden and warm interior you can always find a nice spot to indulge. The team are friendly and helpful if you're a little indecisive. With real ale promotions, tap takeovers, lively quiz nights and bustling rugby days, there seems to be something going on, even if you're not expecting it.
A. P.
A very welcoming pub that has an extensive menu (although limited vegan options currently), and above all values its customers. They provide sun cream for hot days, blankets for chilly days, and generally do everything within their power to make you feel at home. The bathrooms are on the higher level, there is a large beer garden at the rear (which is also the level access for disabled people).
G. H.
Pretty good place, think its my sisters local. A good range of tasty food and the beer/ drink selection is a fine range! I think I may have had white bait maybe or calamari or something? I was half cut when I arrives there as I'd been sorting some stuff out for my sister and decided to drink whilst helping her. Don't know if that was a good idea or not but hey ho, we got everything done and you only live once right?
D. G.
Lovely beers on a limited setup. Can’t wait for them to fully re-open
Worth a visit & give the steak 🥩 a try
R. F.
Fab Pub, love a get together here with friends. Great atmosphere. Service always good, good quality pub food. Definitely recommend. Beer garden worth a visit too.
A. R.
Delicious vegan chicken burger and nachos! Would have been good to get some drinks while we were faffing with the app to order food 😊
C. C.
One of the best - if not the best - pubs in city centre. Cozy pubs like this are few and far between in Cardiff, most feeling frustratingly cheap and modern. Great beer selection. That said, I advise only drinking there. The food leaves much to be desired.
K. E.
Very over the top covid precautions ,place was full of Perspex shields .. really over the top .. literally never seen anything so ridiculous. Food mediocre and beer had a funny stale smell . Wouldn't return
m. c.
Basic food not badly priced and allow dogs
M. B.
First time out after lockdown. Great safety measures in place and all explained well before entry. Delicious burgers and Gin and great social distancing. Enjoyed our visit and will be back.
J. B.
I've been looking for a great bar in Cardiff since I moved here. And I was only there for 15 mins before I decided this one is my favourite. Epic selection of ales. Massive and really cosy beer garden. Rustic/ authentic look inside. Great bar staff. Great place to bring a large group of friends.
C. W.
Used to go here when i was a student in Cardiff many years ago. I think I've changed a lot in that time but the pub looked almost the same except for being a bit shabby and tired looking. The beer was nothing to get excited about either but i think that was Covid related so unfair to rate based on that. Could do with some TLC i think.
z. g.
A good Cardiff pub, popular with students and young professionals. There's always a good atmosphere and a great selection of ales on tap. The beer garden is great in the summer if you can get a seat.
D. H.
Great on Mondays... £2.50 a pint!
n.
Nice pub, good selection 9f drinks, nice beer garden, fairly busy
M. S.
£4.70 for a pint of draft Peroni is possibly considered pricey for South Wales, even Cardiff but far cheaper than £6.10 one month ago in Crystal Palace. This pub is tucked away. I enjoyed it. Busy but not so busy on a Friday evening that my two friends and I couldn't get a table at about 8pm im a Friday night. I will hopefully return here. ☺
A. J.
quality pub with a great atmosphere. enjoy watching the rugby here with all the regulars! friendly service, good beer and food too
C. F.
John is a great help and takes covid rules seriously! Very friendly and accommodating pub with app ordering and table service.
Great hospitality and could recommend it more! 🙂
T. S.
Great choice of beers, lovely garden and a really groovy atmosphere. Very chilled and felt a real buzz of being a regular meeting place for friends. Food on the Thursday steak night was amazing for the money.
D. b.
Great selection of ales and good prices.
R. S.
Booked Christmas table for 9, weeks ago. 2 starters only came once everyone had finished their's and after we had to ask twice about it at the bar. 3 deserts had to be changed after the food hadn't been defrosted from the delivery, they ran out of sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate cake was dry; they did replace it without argument however. We waited over 45 minutes for the deserts and again had to ask again for them to be brought out.
All that said, the rest of the food was well priced, generally tasty and well cooked (steaks appeared to be bang on our requested orders) and we had been considerately seated as there was a young baby in our group.
Would recommend as better than a 'Spoons and the staff may have just had a busy day.
L. D.
Nice food, nice selection of ales, nice big spacious beer garden.
Covid: has good social distancing measures.
A. D.
Professional social distancing and covid procedures. Helpful to have the QR code for track and trace and then ordering with the app, plenty of signs for that! Plenty of contactless hand sanitizer stations around and a good one way system for inside. Would recommend booking a table if visiting. The staff are always really friendly.
S. S.
Traditional style pub that attracts an 'after work' crowd, especially buzzing on a Friday. Decent drink selection, average pub food. Good beer garden.
R. G.
We went close to Christmas (a 19th of December). We had reserved a table and had a baby seat allocated which was good.
We ordered food without issue. The wait time was fairly long but it was busy so not too unexpected. Sadly, three of the party had ordered food that when arrived didn't have the correct toppings on it (no cheese). Later they told us that they had run out of that cheese. The cheese they provided later over powered the food then so we probably would have ordered a different meal if informed up front.
The atmosphere was nice in the main pub area. The toilets weren't that well maintained with no lock on the mens toilet door.
L. B.
Large selection of ales and spirits, not much lager choice. Big beer garden with heaters, live music inside. Prices are a bit higher then other pubs. Had a nice atmosphere
E. 7.
Ate here on lunchtime special so can't fault the price. It was fine but the bacon on my smothered chicken didn't look very well cooked - nicer if the fat isn't white. Might try something else if go again.
J. C.
Lovely food, great selection of ales and decent selection of be lager.
k. p.
Sat outside and enjoyed our Sunday lunch, without sunburn. Great initiative, thank you.
G. I.
Diverse drinks and a town pub that offers a beer garden! Great times.
L. H.
For a pub with such a good reputation I was expecting more from the food. Undercooked vegetables (from frozen) and overpriced for the portion size. It’s great for a drink though, with cosy decor and a good selection of beers.
P. R.
Great pub with good selection of beers. Adapted well to Covid and go out of their way to try and be helpful
R. C.
Nice enough, I guess. Beer is around £4 per pint so a bit pricey. 8oz steak £11 and overdone. Crowd seemed to be postgrad types. Beer garden packs a lot of folks into the space; has shelter and heaters
H. E.
Comfy. Nice outdoor area. Good vegan/veggie options. Good noise level.
J. H.
Generally always busy, but there's a reason why everyone comes. This place is really lovely, with a great selection of drinks. And a lovely beer garden outside!
J. R.
Best beer garden in Cardiff!! It's incredible how a pub can be warm and cosy in the winter but lively and fun for the summer. Outstanding, I always recommend this pub to friends who are visiting Cardiff.
M. M.
Excellent food and drink. Friendly and welcoming staff. Dog friendly.
M. N.
Not the cheapest pub near the University and Museum, but the prices mean it isn't over full with students. Has a large real ale selection.
If you are an archaeologist in town then head here on a Thursday evening.
Food is distinctly average pub fare.
K. W.
Great service and relatively cheap prices
S. o.
Ben F was a delight to be served by, excellent customer service and thought outside the box. What a credit to your team. Bravo 👏🏽
N. F.
Good food, although with prices a bit highee than the normal. As pub it has a wonferfull environment. It has a back part where you can sit down to drink on sunny days.
A. H.
Good food and drink selection but often very busy. Beer garden out the back is large but full of smokers. Not my favourite place but a favourite of my friends and colleagues.
P. M.
Great beers and good food. Tradition style pub with a relaxed atmosphere.
An amazing selection of beers plus good traditional well made menu.
J. S.
Good beer selection etc. It's more often than not always busy though especially in Fridays and weekends. If they invested in the kitchen and menu would be utterly brilliant.
M. B.
Although recently refurbished to look more modern and trendy - a move which has divided opinion; as this used to be a very traditional pub - there's a decent selection of Ale and Standard draughts available. The pub food is standard fare, the club sandwich is a great shout.
S. F.
We just had the best Sunday Roast, Isobel and Gabby served us and they were tremendous. So helpful, polite and made a big fuss of my little dog Big Ralph xx Thank you
K. C.
Nice pub. Lots of seating. Can get very busy. Some nice ales on draught. Staff attempt to keep the place clean and tidy but in places it looks worn and tired.
R. S.
A fine selection of beers. Et cetera
B. F.
Amiable staff, good beer, good pub to go to at this time of year for a chat.
c. b.
Nice place. Waiter and Waitress are friendly.
Usually packed on Friday evening starting 5pm. Being that close to Uni, i would expect a more international selection on Beers though
J. A. (.
Amazing food really unexpected just how good for the price I paid fab value. Plus the staff are really friendly and helpful. Amazing range if beer and cider on tap.
M. R.
Great beer garden and ales with live music on weekends. Its also dog friendly and the staff are great. Its got the best beer garden in cardiff two minutes away from town..
N. R. (.
I was here with a large group, and they accommodated us really well. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food is good but a bit pricey. Ok range of real ales. Disabled toilet available.
P. G.
Reasonably priced good food , great selection of well kept beers & ciders. Possibly the best aspect for a beer garden on a lunchtime on a sunny day in cardiff
C. T.
Great food and beer, very spacious with a huge terrace that has wall heaters, rain cover and we were even given blankets. 4 stars because it's quite smelly inside.
K. W.
Good choice of beer, food platters were lovely and the sun was out so the beer garden was very welcome. Will go back. Highly recommended.
M.
Staff very nice, great beer garden and they allow dogs inside. Good selection of beers and lagers. Haven't tried good but I will be back
T. M.
Great pub, lovely food and superb staff. I definitely recommend a visit
R. S.
Brilliant service. The covid-19 measures that they've put in place really show much thinking behind it. We felt safe and it was great to have some kind of normality again. Well done!
J. A.
Brilliantly accommodating place went as part of a large group and nothing was too much trouble.
Lovely food .. great selection only negative was distance to toilets and some of the chairs we a bit sinky ( like the springs in the middle had given out)
J. G.
Love this pub, lovely staff, great beer garden, awesome drinks selection and fab food. My favourite place for a quick lunch or a cheeky gin after work 😄

Love this place. Met my partner here. Great space indoor and outdoor, can get very busy though, so reserve a table if you want food.
E. H.
Great, very covid safe and has heating which you can turn on or off if you want. I definitely recommend it
M. B.
A well run busy pub with a large beer garden. Some tables in the beer garden are covered. A large range of lagers and beers. Often full of gig goers if there is a band on in the student union.
m. b.

Tucked away behind building works but well worth finding. Friendly staff and tasty moderately priced pub food and a good choice of real ale. A good pub.
W. C.
Great outdoor area and a nice, comforting interior. Great ales and food. A little more pricey than surrounding pubs but most definitely worth it!
M. F.
Good food and beer. Dog friendly. Beer is a tad on the pricey side. Toilets are upstairs. Excellent garden
A. L.
Very friendly staff and a good range of drinks. Thank you for a good evening!
M. H.
Popular with students and lecturers at the University, as well as locals, the Pen and Wig provides a lovely atmosphere for those wanting a couple of drinks with friends. They do a wide selection of ales and beers, and ciders, which readily change. Food price has gone up a little here, which is a shame, but it still remains a great halfway house, or place to watch some sport.
J. B.
Light didn't work in the cubicle, and there was no toilet paper. Of the four urinals, two were out of order and one had a half full bucket under it. The ceiling leaked into my drink. Pleasant staff and good choice of ales, just go to the toilet before you leave the house.
R. H.
Always has good beer and the beer garden is great! One hiccup is the food has had problems more than once! Don't let that stop you from visiting though!
c. r.
Great little pub a little off the most beaten track. We met up at this pub for a pre-game pint and a bite to eat. Great atmosphere, ales and warming pub grub.

A great pub with a mixed clientele. Occasionally very busy. But a good selection of beers with plenty of guest ales.
S. S.
They should tell more people in the apartments just around the corner about their place. I was 30 seconds away but didn't find this jewel until our last day and many blisters later. Food amazing 👍
D. C.
A somewhat shy pub with great food and a large beer garden, one of the few in Cardiff that is not sitting right in the middle of the pub's rubbish bins. Great selection of ales.
S. D.
An adequate pub drawing serving a broad selection of ales, and a handful of lager's on top. A good number of the standard bottled Belgians to back them up.
