D. N.Ordered food at the s&l over the app which was easy to do food arrived relatively quickly, nicely decorated modern feel, easy access if you have mobility issues. Good choice of cocktails and food was good, bit of a gimmick but more than enough for two
G. I.Fyi - this is not a negative review. 3 Stars is average if looked at fairly. Everyone these days gives only 5 or 1 star and this wasn't exceptional nor bad. Food wasn't bad and nether was service, but I wasn't blown away either.
L. H.I recently went to S&L for a night out with friends and family. Everyone from the welcoming door staff to the friendly bar and waiting staff made our night enjoyable. The food was tasty and fresh and the varied choice of 2-4-1 cocktails were great value. Will definately be going back.

There was a long haired security staff member who was rather aggressive in getting elderly men from my party to give ID and snapping at myself as the organiser of the meal for others not having their ID. Other security staff were very nice afterwards. Good meal experience but poor taste left by the treatment on the way in.

Bare in mind that althought they do have outdoor sitting, the whole place is smoke-free, which is one extra point for those who do not like the smell.

Music a little loud for 5pm on a weekday but the other customers and the staff were enjoying it, happy staff is important to me. If you have an hour or so between Megabus change overs this is about a minute from the city centre stop and is good value to stay warm and well fed.

k. k. c.I arrived too early to check into my hotel across from this restaurant so decided to grab breakfast while I waited for a room to open up.
I saw Slug and Lettuce across the street and was immediately intrigued by the name and was hoping it offered healthy options for food.
I walked in and it was pretty quiet--they had just opened up so were still getting settled in, but I was greeted warmly by a hostess and told I could sit anywhere I wanted. The space itself is cool--open with whimsical chairs and decor.
I chose a window seat and looked at my options for food. I was pleasantly surprised to see they had items from classic fish and chips to burgers and super salads. I liked that they offered vegetarian options (I'm not, but I liked to eat veggies when I can).
I had the classic English breakfast (its cheaper to eat here than to eat breakfast at the Hilton across the street) and came back the next day for lunch and had the fried Halloumi and chips with a side of mushy peas. First, fried cheese--YUM. The chips were crunchy and hot and the peas were really really good. I dont like peas and the fact that I enjoyed mine said a lot to me.
Take note that you need to remember your table number and then go up and order/pay at the bar and give them your table number. I saw other diners look impatient and confused when they sat and didn't have a wait person take their order. BUT, it states on the table with the menus how to order your food. Its not rocket science if people took note of their surroundings!
It looks like a fun place for happy hours! They have a really nice shiny bar and the space can accommodate large groups.

The bar itself is nicely decorated and the staff all appear to be happy and will go out of their way to help.
K. G.First of all staff were very friendly and happy to help but that's where my good comments end. Ordered garlic bread for starters, hardly any garlic on the bread and the 3 slices were cold, however it was changed for hot fresh pieces without fuss. Then ordered a chicken fillet burger and asked could I have it plain with just lettuce added and a small amount of mayonnaise. Burger came back with melted cheese on the burger, when saying to a member of staff that I ordered a plain burger, the member of staff replied sharply that it was what I had ordered and was plain until he realised it wasn't. All comes were ordered with no ice but came back with ice but we didnt say anything about that just accepted the cojes with ice. But finally when I was served with my burger and chips the bun with the burger felt like it had just came out of a fridge and the chips were just average to say the least but by this time as it was mothers day I did not mention this as I didnt want to spoil the afternoon for my wife. The place itself also looked very tired and worn and even though the prices are comparable with other restaurants in Cardiff I do think they need to invest in refreshment. Just to mention I dont like to use the word complain, if a problem arises with food served or service I am always polite and respectful to members of staff as customers need to realise complaining in a rude or abrupt manner is not the best way to sort out issues. We did have nearly an hour wait for food but we got free drinks etc and even though they closed the kitchen without telling us so we couldn't order dessert the manager still got us some!

We had two massive platters of tuna mayo, chicken/sundried tomatoes, haloumi, avocado and lettuce rolls, which were delicious. Plus massive scones with clotted cream and jam. Then we had chocolate brownies, profiteroles and macrons. We had a good sized table with balloons. All for the price of two cocktails each. Amazing value for money. R. W.I used the Slug and Lettuce, Friary Cardiff whilst I was staying at the Hilton next door.
As with other Slugs that I have been in, they had this racket coming out of their loudspeakers, (I think that they call it music, but I wouldn't be that polite).
I had a couple of meals there and the food was delicious,
I was looked after by the lovely Elisha and Tabi. Message to management look after them, they are good.
More than likely I will be using this Slug when I am back in Cardiff.
