E. P.Friday evening visit - staff were lovely. Little bit of a wait for service. Lots of seating though it did start filling up more like 7.30. Whole place pretty clean 🙂. Food didn't take long to arrive and plates were cleared quickly. My boyfriend and I were happy with portion sizes (good value for money), and my salad was nice and fresh.

Nice outdoor terrace which could be improved with some hanging baskets.

w.Food is always good here, we had a breakfast of eggs benedict and a breakfast wrap, consumed the only way you can at the Aneurin Bevan, in the middle of a roundabout!
M. S.Quick service, using the app is the fastest option. Great value food, served hot and of good quality and portion size. Plenty of parking on my visit too. Fantastic provisions for social distancing, very clean and tidy. Staff very friendly and helpful. It's always a pleasant visit here. Highly recommended.

I visited recently to take the kids out for some food. The pub wasn't too crowded, however, social distancing seemed pretty poor and very few of the staff wore masks.
Frustratingly the app is very sporadic when you try and order. Whilst a number of things were showing as unavailable on the app, which is fair enough, I tried ordering five separate items from the children's menu to find. Find each time I got to the cart it told me it was unavailable and removed. It therefore took me around 20 minutes to order my kids food.
The pub overall is very clean and service was good.
J.Both service and food can be hit and miss. Been several times and sometimes it's great, sometimes poor. Overall it is a fairly standard Wetherspoons. You pretty much know what to expect before you go in.

m. m.Went to this weatherspoons today, food arrived very simple all-day brunch. First time eggs were not cooked sent them back. Then eggs came out rock-hard. Didn't say anything the second time even said all was find because I thought I'd be wasting my time. Left most of the food and left.
T. D.The food was ok with a limited menu. Table service was very slow. Then a week later will receive a fine of £45 from euro car parks saying we stayed over 3 hours.
What game are they playing go elsewhere my advice.

g. n.The short team leader guy who runs this place is a credit to the weatherspoons chain. He's served me several times, he's always helpful, polite, asks if the food was okay etc.
If I were his employer, I'd be very pleased to have him as a member of staff (and no, he hasnt paid me to write this 😄)

P. C.An Island in the middle of a very busy road so you have three lanes on one side and five on the opposite side. You have to have your wits about you when you attempt to drive into the car park. Sadly, they no longer do take away coffee. I went in, but left immediately, although I quite fancied sitting down to some food. The staff I spoke to were very pleasant. Unlike many JDWs there didn't seem to be a lot of daytime drinkers.

M.Large breakfast, had the smallest amount of beans, is there a shortage that I am unaware of? This isn't a one off either, happens every time!

H. H.Not good. Cramped tables. Ended up sitting in the corridor section between kitchen and main seating area and was freezing cold with staff constantly walking past with dishes. Cant book a table there. Extremely slow service at bar. Not enough staff on. Carpet throughout the place was grimy and needed a good clean. Staff friendly but stretched.
Food was not nice. Chicken was like rubber and salad was warm. Good point toilets were clean and in fact far too many for the size of the place. Would be better to use the space better for more sitting area. Will not go again.
J. L.Lovely looking place, nice staff. But the food wasn't very good, no burgers, steak wasn't cooked as I asked and was very tough and grisly, my husband and daughter had warm chips and peas. Fresh fruit salad was available then not available. Probably should have complained at the time, had just come from a funeral and didn't want the hassle. Travelled back to Plymouth later.
B. B.I have had the pleasure of attending this establishment on two occasions in the last two weeks.
The Cov-19 enforcement is very good the staff always use PPE all the time, the food is good value for money also the tables are gleaming and a good distance apart.

M.I really like drinking here. The local people are always friendly. The food is always well cooked. The drinks are fairly price and the staff are always happy to help. They have a decent sized car park it's a great meeting place.
A. C.Quite a large pub with tables throughout, virtually all taken. Good atmosphere. A Friday lunchtime, very busy! Only 1 barstaff + floater so quite a queue for a while. However wide choice of excellent meals for all tastes at reasonable prices. Food came surprisingly quickly with good presentation. Tasty and nice. Machine coffee available after.
M. B.The staff were friendly. Took a star away as the floor had lots of food including a whole sliced apple all around the table I sat on!! If it wasnt for the fact that I was meeting someone there I'd have left as it put me off. The remaining stars are due to the fact that the food arrived quickly but to be honest it was curry night so it had probably been batch prepared but it was very nice!

Very good night out to catch up with mates. Just be polite and keep the noise down, kind of an unwritten rule, definitely followed well on most occaisions. Mostly nice and civilized.
The Aneurin Bevan is more of a relaxed place. It's got it's fair share of regulars, this adds character and atmosphere to what would be just another wetherspoons. The staff really know the regulars and treat them well, this is really important and often missed.
The staff are quick with the mobile phone app orders for food or drinks and at the bar, this helps for a more smoothly run and pleasant experience.
Always look forward to a catch up at this pub, whether its in the summer outside on the table and chairs, or a rainy day. Good overall experience, well done to all the staff.

C. R.One of my favourite spoons well cooked food, clean and tidy with friendly staff. Unfortunately after visiting here plenty of times without a problem in regards to parking we receive a letter saying we didn't adhere to the parking regs and if we do this again we will be fined £75. Apparently you are supposed to log reg at the bar but have never seen or been asked to do this so a bit confused as we do visit quite often why haven't we been sent a letter before?. The tone left quite a bitter taste considering we were there as paying customers. Please make these parking rules more noticible as it would be a shame for a lovely pub to lose customers over it.

The only thing that lets it down is something that others have commented on and that is that there is no hot water in the taps in the toilets and the hand dryers blow cold air. Apart from that the toilets are always clean and tidy.

E. G.Wednesday lunch time has been realitively quiet few weeks running. Food beautiful and very quick. They even turned off air con in the large room. App works a treat too. Don't forget there's manager's specials. The hit sauce is great. They have changed the outside from non smoking to smoking unfortunately as this is where you access building through two entrances from carpark. Toilets spotless in day the tap us too cold though to wash hands properly.
S. M.As long as a pint of Carling costs almost a quid cheaper here than any other pub I know in Cardiff, I love it. The staff are hard-working and yet always friendly even when working under the pressure of serving more customers attracted to the place by the lower cost.
M. D.Decent enough pub, the usual Weatherspoons menu. A bit hit and miss with the speed and quality of the service depending on how busy they are. Free parking but you have to input your reg number into the tablet at the bar.
L. S.We have been using this Wetherspoons since it opened. The service is usually good but can be slow at busy times. The tables often aren't cleaned before the next customer sits down and has to do it themselves.
The food is generally of a good standard but whenever I have ham, eggs and chips, I always ask for runny eggs. Do I get them? Usually no, so I have to ask for them to be cooked again, by then the chips are cold!
My main gripe is the freezing cold rooms and especially the ladies toilet. It is even worse in winter when you are in danger of getting frostbite as it's so cold. Then add the unheated room, the freezing cold hand driers and having a cold drink which all combine to leave me shivering.
Also there has been a moving of more table and chairs into the main dining area which is now so full its difficult to move around and you feel as if you are sharing your table with a stranger, quite often.
I don't enjoy eating here any more.

The aneurin is our favourite place. Polite staff. A guy called Max is always pleasant. Plenty of seating. Buzzing and full. Quick service. Beautiful food. Reasonable prices. Car park fab and outdoor space lovely. Please get more fish. Also can you bring the burger back with bacon and blue cheese sauce

P. B.A nice pub with a friendly atmosphere, there are a good mix of locals and non locals so there is a nice atmosphere but you would never turn a bar full of heads if you were to walk in. The food is of a good standard with a varied menu at reasonable prices. The drinks prices are good too with both draft lagers and real ales on offer as well as a wide selection of ciders and wines. Overall a nice place to have a quiet drink or meal with friends or family

c.This is a really good Wetherspoons. The staff are friendly and the food is excellent, they must have a really good chef. I had State Dog, a hot dog with Monterey jack cheese & lots of very tasty trimmings, and excellent chips and onion rings. My nephew had medium rare steak with jacket potato which he said was very good.

J. R.Cheap booze and most of the staff seemed friendly. They only allow 3 hours parking and then they told us that we needed to move on unfortunately. Surely if we are spending money as a massive group they would welcome the sales?

L.If you sit near the far left entrance (by the toilets and kitchen), late at night, you'll have to put up with glass being smashed loudly (I guess bottles for recycling -- but seriously, must you be SO heavy handed!?) and awful loud music from the kitchen. Which I'm sure isn't legal as they don't play music in most Wetherspoon's pubs, which suggests they don't pay for a license to do so.
Other than that, not too bad and the staff (besides kitchen staff with their awful music) are great!

T. W.This Wetherspoons has friendly barstaff, a good sized car park and clean bathrooms. The food pushed this pubs rating to a "4* Wetherspoon" - it was perfectly cooked, hot, quick, decent portions and overall better quality than most other Wetherspoons I've visited. The interior of the pub is acceptable and was very clean when we visited!

L. S.Pretty damned solid - like a previous reviewer has said, it's a Wetherspoons so, if you're familiar with the brand, you know what you're going to get.
Food was tasty, and plenty of, no complaints there. I would say that service was a touch slow, hence the loss of a star, but I put that down to it being relatively early on a morning and only one staff member on the bar; being a Spoons, it was pretty busy from the word go and he was a little swamped.
Still, got served, got fed, got watered in pleasant surroundings - what more do you ask for?
p. t.Typical Weatherspoons with decent food and cheap drinks. It's seriously let down by the staff who seem bored and disinterested. No attempt to provide friendly good service. Their lack of interest is manifest in the slip shod way they fail to keep tables clear of used items and the fact that they never water their plants. The sight of sad dried up plants slowly dying somes up the staffs attitude.

The Aneurin Bevan is a nice pub, you can usually get a table and my only complaint is that they don't always have enough staff to cope with the lunchtime rush.
M. E.This is a well run Weatherspoon's pub (and consequently busy at certain times). Pro's: food is dependably good pub style food.
Prices are reasonable and can be very competitive when drink included and/or discount on pudding. 'Themed' nights mean you need to check which you'd prefer if you want a wider choice of offers (e.g. curry night, steak night).

Welsh lamb 'cawl' (rhymes with 'howl' - a meat broth) is authentic and tasty and very good value.
Welsh / border ciders as well as guest ales mean a better range of beverages. Coffees are half what they cost in most similar places.
Location is v. useful, with parking (right at the northside foot of the Gabalfa interchange) although you need to treat it as a traffic island and remember you can only enter from the inside lane heading city wards and on exit, you must first head northwards (circling round if want to head south (east or west wards).
Interior decor a bit gloomy in the restaurant, but full of early labour movement memorabilia (Keir Hardy, Bevan, Foot portraits) with lots of interesting info. A specially commissioned mining valley landscape - a masterpiece - is a hidden highlight.

E. L.Order to your table is good, staff generally okay but staff turnover seems quite high. Dont forget to put your reg number in to the tablet by the entrance otherwise you'll get fined for parking.
P. C.OK. Let's get one thing straight. This is a J.D. Wetterpants pub. As it is sited on an island with a busy road all around it, how else could I have arrived other than in a car? I parked in the car-park to purchase a take-away coffee that I drank while parked-up listening to the radio. A few days later I received a letter from the 'Car Park Management' company advising that I had used the car-park for an unspecified, but implied unacceptable reason, and that I was being cautioned. How they came to this decision I do not know. They rely on a CCTV system which is obviously not fit-for-purpose as it can't differentiate between a customer and a parking offender. As a final word on the matter, if you do receive a letter from a Private Parking Co., please be advised that it is a civil matter and you are being 'INVITED' to pay a Parking Charge. It's not a Penalty Charge Notice which can only be issued by Police and Councils. Think hard about what you do.
M. T.Went today. The food was excellent, best pub around, fast service as well. Really cheap. Will be going back again.
n. c.Screens up separating the tables and bar staff. Sanitiser at both entrances I used. Not much else has changed. No mixed grills though. They should have solved this problem by the time you read this.
D. J. M.Beware of parking - I had a ticket for parking from 843am-1016am w/ notice 'Exceeded allowed parking time'. Enjoyed breakfast, WiFi available to crack on with work. Would recommend but be mindful of parking.

G.Doesn't stand out as a Wetherspoons in a good way - The fact that seating in the dining room involves clambering over a merry collection of "typical wetherspooners" in order to find it from the bar says it all. If a pub filled with rosey-faced gents that look like they've been maturing far too long and food that they've just about microwaved to the right temperature, then this is the pub for you.

Set in an unusual location heading into Cardiff from the Valleys, or coming off the M4 at the Tongwynlais turn-off, it's situated on a roundabout and can be a bit tricky getting into the car park - make sure you're in the correct lane....
