Really good pub with a nice garden at the back. Staff were a pleasure as well. I do remember though that the wait for the burger was quite long (an hour or something) so this could probably be improved.
H. H.
Clean but pricey. Limited menu that was not publicised anywhere so we struggled to find things suitable for guests with intolerances. Freezing cold in there as all doors were open. My meal was chicken schnitzel and rock hard so not great.. Staff all wearing different clothing so it was hard to spot who was staff and who were customers. Dull atmosphere. Constant queue for ladies toilet downstairs.
P. M.
The staff were friendly and the place is cosy.
They were probably having an off day, but the food took a long time to arrive, was very over cooked and the portions were small.
The corridor to the gents and the gents toilet were grubby.
G. H.
Went for Sunday lunch, lovely food, very well cooked and presented. Staff who served us were very friendly. Recommended that you book in advance as it gets quite busy. Sunday set menu was also reasonably priced. Would recommend and would return.
A. E.
Small menu, but enough choice for all tastes. Freshly prepared and cheerful, efficient service. Would go again.
S. K.
Great food, drinks and service as ever, even whilst (literally) mopping up after a flood. Staff were calm, friendly and flexible in the face of adversity. Diolch!
S. S.
Decent pub, good beer and tasty food, though a tad pricey. Beer garden is very pleasant on a warm day. Maybe just a bit lacking in atmosphere.
S. E.
Our first night in Cardiff was made even more lovely by the dinner we shared at The Cricketers. Wonderful service, great traditional fare (must try the Welsh Rarebit), big portions, and the food came out hot and delicious. A must stop for anyone visiting Cardiff or for locals - who seemed to be numerous and always a good sign - alike.
C. H.
Great location for a pub just outside of the city centre on cathedral road. Plenty of space in the side for seating with good social distancing options available. Friendly and helpful staff with short queues at the bar. A nice cosy atmosphere to go for a drink with some friends.
R. H.
Great food and amazing service. If you're after a welcoming vibe, good beer and delicious food all at great prices then give this place ago.
K. H.
Fabulous Sunday Lunch today would definitely recommend.
Lovely staff as well.
R. L.
We had booked a large table for a Christmas meal. The food was delicious. The service was amazing with Georgia really making everything extra special. Would definitely recommend!
A. T. /. H.
Can highly recommend as they always have excellent food at a reasonable price, especially the Sunday roasts! Decent drinks from the bar too. If the weather's good then they have a large and well maintained outdoor area at the back. Really enjoyable experience, I always feel comfortable here and have returned many times. A big thumbs up!
R. S.
Very good pub food, and a nice rear terrace.
The pub was pretty full but we were able to stop by with no booking and get drinks, burgers and a fish and chips in under an hour before our table was needed. Later we came back for a drink and again, it was pleasant to sit out the front. Can't speak as to the range of drinks but the staff were very helpful.
B. M. K.
Lovely cold cider . And some goose fat chips great food

I had to change my rating as last visit was a big disappointment. In general it is an expensive pub but you know that food will be better than your average pub. Unfortunately last visit didn't feel as such. We were a big group of people so we had all sorts of food. The fish and chips were very greasy and hardly any cod in there. The pork loin was just an average piece of meat which could have been cooked better. There was no burger as they had run out of it on Friday night which you wouldnt expect. Wouldn't go again any time soon for food at least.
m. p.
Six of us went for lunch. Good food: stone bass, burgers. Good beer: Welsh Pale Ale. Nice comfy feel. Friendly staff.
N. E.
Food was tasty and plentiful, we were served very quickly. Would recommend the burger and the chocolate mousse! Sat in the garden with our dog but they also allow dogs inside. Good selection of drinks and pleasant service
M. G.
Decent main dishes and for a pub in Central Cardiff it is conveniently located with nearby free car spaces on the main road
M. T.
It was safe, clean and we'll organised, and that means a lot.
The beer is always good here and the food much improved since my last visit. Very nice monkish 'scampi'(if that's not a contradiction in terms'. Really nice braised beef. Staff are courteous and attentive, but not intrusive.
I like The Cricketers a lot.
K. J.
I'm not usually a fan of busy pubs, but with The Cricketers, the noise level was worth it. I had the duck fillet (see photo) followed up by the strawberry creme brulee and it was all bloomin' amazin. The duck was cooked to perfection and the desert was the stuff of creamy legend. The service was almost as fantastic as the gorgeous food, with attentive, friendly servers visiting our table throughout the night. I will absolutely be back to pillage their stocks of creme brulee.
P. C.
Great Sunday lunch, followed by large cheese board, friendly waiter, we will return.
P. H.
Evan Evans pub, quiet location (no cricket being played). Food menu looks interesting & reasonably priced, will return to try.
S. W.
Lovely staff, good food and a smashing beer garden
F.
The staff are a real asset. There's a wide range of beers on tap and a spacious outdoor area. The food is pretty good but not outstanding, although it is a gastropub after all.
b. l.
The Cricketors was a good pub but I visited on Rugby day so they ran out of food and beer.
Despite this though, they have a spacious garden that's perfect for summer weather and the staff inside are friendly faced and bright.
Would visit again, perhaps on a less busier day.
L. D.
One of the best pub food experiences we’ve had. Superb food for a pub. Service both good and terrible. Ambience horrific.
Food (for a pub) 10/10
Service a mix: one fab dark-haired Irish girl; the rest were absent and not interested in customers only chatting in a huddle. Dirty plates given to us- rectified by Irish lass who took it upon herself to check new plates and freshen them up with a wash.
Irish lass 9/10
Everyone else 3/10
Ambience: think tired 1990s local pub. Tired carpets, unusual Mary Celeste vibe, clattering of sorting cutlery next to us, no ice available for drinks…and to top smelly emptied bins were left next to our table and eventually later moved away once staff had had a good long chat.
The chef and Irish waitress need to find a better establishment or management need to invest in a refurb and, well, management and staff customer service training.
L. H.
Cool pub. Old row house turned into a nice drinking/dining space.
R. L.
Sunday lunch was gorgeous the Yorkshire pudding was huge roast potatoes were huge and perfect i especially liked the picked cabbage. The staff were lovely and even though a member of our party was 40min late we weren't rushed. Will definitely return.
J. B. (.
Loved it good food, good beer.
K. H.
Food and drinks were amazing. And they let our dogs inside. 5 stars!
c. m.
Decent food, good service, nice atmosphere, drinks expensive
T. M.
Great atmosphere, staff and manager very warm, friendly and accommodating. Really good food, pricing fair ..What more could you want from a pub visit!
D. K.
Friendly staff and Sunday dinner was great!
H. L. P.
First pub night since lockdown. Very safe and secure with lovely staff. Thank you!
K. P.
I had a really lovely experience at this restaurant recently. I called ahead to see if dogs were allowed (which they are) and the lady on the phone kindly booked me a table at short notice. I arrived and the staff were efficient and kind. Staff were attentive to all our needs including a water bowl for our dog, Maisy. The food was really delicious and was reasonably priced. Overall a really positive experience.
g. p.
As always great food(highly recommend the burger) and service, the place is also running like clock work in the current Covid Climate, very efficient. Also Dog friendly and great beer garden, Guinness is decent pour also! Get down there.
j. f.
Absolutely 5 star service from our lovely waitress, sorry I've forgotten her name, the blonde young lady.
Roast potatoes, roast parsnip and gravy was the best I've tasted for a long time! X
M. N.
First night out post lockdown and a great place to go with large outside area and friendly table service. Food up to usual excellent standard.
R. F.
We had our works party last night. The food was absolutely out of this worls. The staff were off the scale amazing as was Jamie the manager. Amazing atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone to got there.out standing and fantastic value. Thanks to all the staff xx
A. B.
Food all seems good quality, there's a small menu of classic 'pub dishes' but all very well made and presented using high quality ingredients. Nice atmosphere with a homely decor and quaint beer garden that backs onto the cricket ground.
c. b.
Lovely place and staff. Nice atmosphere.
The drink service is always done quickly compared to the nearby Y Molchyn Du.
Their ale selection isn't my "cup of tea" though, but that's personal taste.
The food service may be a little slow from time to time.
Nice place out of city center. Would expect it stay open a little longer on Friday nights though.
Hand dryer not working in men men restroom for several weeks.
G. G.
Had our Christmas party here on Saturday afternoon, food was delicious, everybody agreed. Staff were attentive and helpful especially when one of our party took the wrong meal. Will definitely have to come back and try the normal menu. Thanks very much!
M. H.
Nice contemporary pub near the Glamorgan cricket ground. Not as noisy and raucous as nearby pubs. Had a late evening brandy there just before turning in. Dog friendly. Food looked good. Seemed a good place to spend an evening.
P. C.
Pub located across from our hotel.
We both had the black pepper beef with roasted potatoes. It was one of the specials that night. The meal was excellent. Apparently the win my wife chose was good also.
C. P.
The food is freshly cooked to order. No microwave!! It's always first class! The beer is exceptional! Clean and crisp.
Easily the best staff you'll ever meet in a pub.
C. C.
Had a fabulous Sunday roast here with our family while staying in Cardiff. Very helpful staff, good beer and great environment
J. K.
The Sunday lunch was great today. We were on a tight time schedule and they served us quickly, efficiently and were really friendly. It’s the kind of place you can stay and relax all afternoon, with your newspapers and full belly!
R. P.
Great food and good beers
K. O.
Good food, good beer, and very good staff. Plus reasonable prices.
D. P.
Excellent food, nice relaxed atmosphere, good service by friendly staff. Plenty of room to get up and walk around with our one year old grandson at the front, though there looked to be less open space further back. Would definitely recommend and go back.
0.
Very nice.
D. M.
Amazing pub, great experience, we got a table very quickly although the place was quite busy. Great tap selection and the food was outstandingly well-thought, cooked and presented. You'd get your money's worth. I highly recommend.
L. M.
A lovely pub! We had a meal here, which was restaurant standard and absolutely delicious! The prices were reasonable too. I would recommend booking a table to dine as it was very busy on the Saturday evening that we were there. I would definitely return!
s.
Happy to find another nice place that serves food all day, and the food here was unexpectedly great. The interior was warm and welcoming, and the service was really good too. I can see why the The Cricketers has won recent Welsh pub/food awards.
D. M.
Nice pub in a quiet street. It must be a converted house rather than purpose built building. Large garden at back.
T. C.
Good choice of alrs. Efficient service on match day
J. B.
Very cosy pub with really comfortable seating and a nice fire place.
It's situated just far enough from the city centre that you don't get bothered by massive crowds but also not too far from the city centre as it's about a 15-20 minute walk.
I was disappointed in the selection of beers and wine they had and what they did have was very boring on the palate.
I didn't order any food but my friends did and by the look of it it is quite expensive for what you get.
C. W.
Excellent food. I had the chicken and mushroom stroganoff. Very friendly and attentive staff. The lovely lady that served us, genuinely seemed to be enjoying her job.
v. J.
Friendly staff and good food. Inside is rather small but the back garden is much bigger.
F. R.
A friendly and warm environment and very friendly staff made our evening meal a very pleasant experience. Service was quick and the food was excellent for a very reasonable price. The awards it has won are very much deserved and we will definitely be going back.
M. D.
Great pub and nice location. Good selection of drinks, we didn’t eat here but the menu looked good. Very nice atmosphere and was quite busy.
G. K.
First visit in a long time. The establishment has recently won Best Gastropub in South East Wales and was pretty much full with diners at 8:30 when we arrived. The cider (Thatchers) needed a change of barrel but the staff said they'd bring the drink to our table which was nice. Toilets are upstairs, downstairs the front area is casual seating with the rear more of a dining area though both can be used for dining. I did see one dachshund with two lady's eating so digs are allowed. The pub does a daily soup, pie and sausage special and there's also a Specials board by the door as well as the usual menu that includes " Classics" as well as normal fare including Sunday Roasts until 5pm. On the reverse is the wine list many of which can be had by the glass. We will be returning soon.
S. C.
Very nice Sunday lunch. 2 or 3 courses. £17 for 2 course. Nicely presented. Book if you want a table for Sunday lunch. Puddings are ordinary but nicely presented
p. ค.
We were 6 people for the set price Sunday lunch. The traditional roast dishes looked ok - crispy pork and beef (which comes well done). The vegetables were not boiled to death, which I like but, al dente veg is not to everyones liking. I went outside the roast choices and had sea bass which was about the size of a large sardine and totally over cooked. Recommendation: Stick to the roasts.
J. N.
We were here October 28,2015 and I ate fish and chips. We also tried the locally brewed beers. Some of us tried the Warrior Beer. It was terrific! The atmosphere was great!
My Grandfather was born in Pontypool, Wales which is 22 miles north of Cardiff.
P. S.
Good local food pub
S. D.
Enjoyed it very much, lovely staff and pleasant surroundings
S. A.
Nice setting and garden seating available. Good snacks and also have live shows every now and then. Polite staff and good table service. Duck roast is served the best.
S. J.
Great pub with a great vibe! Didn't stay here for long but it looked very well decorated and the service was good. Clean toilets, an increasingly rare phenomena for pubs.
L. H.
Lovely place to be :) the food was great quality and the service was amazing! All the staff were really friendly and attentive :)
L. T.
Had a fantastic trip to the cricketers tonight for my son's 18th. Food was great and so are the staff!! Thanks all for a great evening xx
E. S.
Very nice atmosphere, good food good range of ales.
E. L.
Very good selection of food and drinks. Only been once as a last minute option, and the service wasn't the greatest.
J. M.
Nice pub. Good beer selection. Outdoor area. Didnt eat but the menu looked fine. Close to yhe cricket ground. Service was good.
A. L. D.
Very friendly bar staff and locals. Loved the real fireplace on the cold day we attended. Really well kept cask beer but need more variations other than Evan Evans brewery
P. T.
Top spot with a really nice outdoor garden that is a nice walk through Bute Park. Fast, friendly service with a goid selection of beers (including craft) and fairly fast, tasty food. Portions aren't massive and peobably slightly higher price than average for Cardiff.
T. L.
Would have been 4 stars but their member of staff (GDPR) who speaks welsh and who comes from Ynys Môn, made it a five because she made me feel right at home. What a wonderful place and wonderful set of staff.
J. M.
Nice place for a drink indoors and out, slightly pricey considering its away from the centre however nice environment and reasonably friendly staff
R. J.
Best pub in Cardiff. Pontcanna wouldn't be the same without the Cricketers. The welcome - the staff make this place, the delicious food, the venue and decor is superb. 5 stars.
P. W.
Met up with friends and family for a bit of a reunion and had a great time. Lovely venue and reasonable prices. First time here but won't be my last!
B. C.
Great choice of beer. Great beer garden. Enjoyable afternoon with friends
A. L.
Great atmosphere, superb staff and top quality ales.
S. N.
A solid pub with a decent range of drinks. The beer range could be improved. The decor of the pub itself is very nice. Haven't tried the food.
D. S.
Young lady who got a table for us and took our order was helpful and friendly.
J. G.
The Cricketers has become our favourite place for Sunday lunch. Food is excellent, staff are lovely and an added bonus is that the pub is dog friendly!!
l. b.
Nice friendly place. All the places on cathedral Road are converted 3 story period houses. We were stopping at a guest house next to it so was perfect for us.
f.
An older building in Cathedral Road. It has character. The beer garden at the rear is quite sizeable. The staff were great. Food was tasty.
N. C.
Lovely decor and spotlessly clean. Very friendly and helpful staff and very good service. A good selection of food and drinks. Excellent food. Will definitely be back
P. W.
Great food, excellent drinks, warm atmosphere good service, no complaints, recommended!
R. E.
Lovely food, well presented and fair prices. Service was good but food orders were mixed up which meant we had to eat at different times.
C. P.
Nice pub, very cosy and pleasant staff. Great selection of beers and spirits (including a gin menu) would definitely recommend
B. M.
The pub was lovely inside but the restaurant is definitely "gastro" with food being messed with big time, so unfortunately we didn't stay to eat, on the menu was even a "deconstructed key lime pie" - come on!!!! :(
I. S.
Went for a Christmas meet up at lunchtime with old friends today and can't rate The Cricketers highly enough.Great selection of drinks especially the Ales & our meals were very good & good value.Had Whitebait starter, a small portion but decent enough.Barnsley Chop with veg was excellent as a main & the Blackberry Pannacotta was superb.A very enjoyable afternoon with great service.Big thank you to the staff.
S. C.
A traditional pub not far from the centre of Cardiff, a short walk and well worth it. A good selection of ales and great food at a reasonable price.
C. S.
Good food and beer, staff were excellent. Bit pricy but the atmosphere there was really good
T. E.
Excellent choice of ale, excellent food and excellent service from Laura.
D. R.
Nice place to grab a pint and have a chat!
P. S.
Relaxed and friendly. Lovely vibe and great beer!
T. R.
I've been in for Sunday Lunch several times and always enjoyed it when I wanted something a little better than a 'Two meals for a tenner' pub meal. Really nice atmosphere in the place.
J. F.
Good range of ales the majority of which were brewed in Wales.
C. C.
Impressive neighbourhood pub. Really good for food and extremely well managed, with staff really working hard to get things right. Cosy seating for drinks at the front and more dining-focussed area at the back.
B. a. B. B.
Lovely pub, delicious food & friendly service. Portions could be a little bigger for value for money.
m. w.
Always good food, good friendly service and a great atmosphere. Great for lunch or dinner or even just for a drink with friends

Loved it. Cracking Sunday lunch. Extremely family/dog friendly. Great value. Lovely atmosphere.
L. J.
Posh pub. People and staff are friendly. More foody than pub. Food is OK, but nothing special. Slightly dear for the quality.
S. S.
A really great beer garden, close to the city centre. Prices are surprisingly reasoanable too. Does attract somewhat of a pretentious crowd, but don't let that deter you.
J. S.
Good menu, lots of choices. Really lovely staff. Super decor.
r. l.
The food was amazing definitely will be coming back. The one waitress was a bit snotty if you want something cooked a certain way but other than that great :)

J. W.
Good pub just far enough away from the city centre to not be completely rammed on match day. And the beer is pretty good too
I. M.
Comfortable, clean place, nice pub and restaurant. Food is pretty pricey and the cask selection seems to only be Evans Evans - could do with some variety.

(Translated) Perfect place! I recommend to everyone who travels to Cardiff. There are local dishes, a good selection of drinks and a high level of service, what else do you want? It is popular with local residents. I advise you to book a table in advance, otherwise there may not be places. In summer, the summer terrace is open. The prices are average.
