been here loads of times food brilliant never had an issue once recently had the new breakfasts really reasonable. Area for the kids outside to play you can eat outside as well if you want to watch the kids . The big plates are great meals. I recently had the sharing platter as a starter but so much on it I was done after that cost about £7.99 job done quick drink and a platter of chicken bits, mushrooms battered garlic ones , Scampi , garlic bread etc perfect . it's a hungry horse pub nothing special to look at really but great service fast efficient, the chef is brilliant great food no issues great Sunday roasts as well and everyday they have a special on like Steak Mondays etc. check it out great parking outside as well .

Sat in the garden on a sunny Saturday for breakfast and Carol looked after all 4 of us really lovely and made the experience really easy and welcoming. The chef's Mollie and Ellie were happy to swap items on breakfast menu which was really nice and helpful to accommodate children's tastes. Definitely will be back soon.

We attended early on a Sunday for lunch. Mike immediately welcomed us in and let us know where we could sit. He was attentive and offered to get us our sauces (I had spotted them when walking back and was going to go back and get them). The food was served quickly. The only thing I could ask them to improve was that my baguette was rock hard at the ends and a bit stale but the filling was nice. Mike was lovely, very friendly and attentive but not overbearing in the slightest.

Nice to see the place picking up been going there weekly for years. The last 3/4 weeks we have seen a new face there tonight we asked ask name “Stewart” asked him his position he told us team leader which is great but our group’s opinion was this lad needs manager he has the customer service the banter the skills to make this place alive friendly and welcoming. He was doing everyone else’s job with a smile the food service was backed up we noticed he took charge and this was soon resolved and running smooth before his appearance today things were chaotic and no one seemed to care. No disrespect to the person normally running the show but she is not a patch on this man customer service with a smile and customer care is what we all want this man has it all. We will return more regularly if his there more often and I’m sure others will agree. Karen is also a lovely girl

Had a lovely meal here tonight, whilst we were waiting to pick up a friend who was visiting a relative in Colchester hospital. Staff friendly also. There is parking and a lovely enclosed play area for children, would definitely go there again.

The pub is enjoyable and service is usually good but the one thing that has put me off is trying to book an evening slot, the website says you can't book online please call, then generally you can't get through as it just keeps going to answerphone. Strange way to keep customers happy.

Meal was really lovely and the service was good. The pub could do with being decorated as the walls were looking tired, also the carpet was very tired in places. Who eva does the cleaning needs to clean the paint work and lampshades.

Good food but our dessert order was delayed by about an hour and told staff multiple times our order was incomplete yet promised "it will be put here shortly" or "I'll have a look for you" to be greeted with no response. All resolved in the end.

Simple well priced food. We all had the mixed grills and there was no poor quality meat at all. Post lockdown signage was in place, more arrows for the way out would help reduce confusion, however staff were helpful. I regularly attend and would return again.

I visited recently with my wheelchair bound client for lunch and we were, even before entering the building made to feel welcome. Our server, Carol assisted in getting my client into the building and was a delight throughout. The food was great value, prepared in good time, served hot and was absolutely delicious. I would absolutely recommend this pub.

no complaints here. sat straight down to our table waitress was friendly you could see they was getting busy but food came out pretty quickly, standard hungry horse fair but nothing to complain about there ... only slight gripe was dessert took about half hour and i had to grab a waiter to get it but considering how busy they was its understandable and was sorted straight away also table took a little long to clear (as we got the dessert) but again it never ruined the experience as the staff where friendly enough even under pressure 😁👍

One of the servers always gets something wrong every time we come.. whereas Carol does a very good job and she's super friendly and efficient. Our other stays here were terrible, but we didn't have Carol, so that's perhaps why. More staff need to take a leaf out of Carol's book.. I'm not sure they know what customer service is.

Tremendous Quadzilla Burger! Spot on of any big taste burger lover. However, 8oz* Smothered Steak Sizzler was a complete disappointment. Should be taken off the menu really. Great presentation, but absolutely nothing to do with the steak dish. Just a tastless, stringy and chewy piece of meat... I hope it was a meat...

The food was very good excellent price and a good atmosphere to enjoy a family meal. Excellent service by my waitress sophie who went above and beyond to listen and talk to my daughter who is 6 and very chatty even though im sure she had other things to do. She made us feel welcome and not rushed. She explained the steps in place to keep everyone safe. Was offered the choice to dine indoors or outdoors. Food and drinks served within a good time and after we finished the meal was not made to feel rushed to leave. Very happy will be coming again.

This place went seriously downhill for a while, and we stopped visiting. However, myself and my son decided to give it another go. I'm not sure what's happened, but it's vastly improved! The food was fresh, hot and tasty. Our waitress had her work cut out as she was the only one waiting on a whole restaurant, but she did amazing. Very friendly and helpful. They do some fab offers each day.....we visited on a Thursday and it was either a FREE starter or dessert with a big plate meal. Very happy with all food and drink. Will definitely be back.

Went for a meal tonight before watching the football only to find out we had a 3 minute delay from 1 t.v to the other which was very annoying I understand the situation we are in at the moment but a 3 minute delay in football is a long time I left at half time. The meal was lovely by the way

Honestly the staff need to be told they are doing a great job. Friendly bar maid, couldn't have been more helpful and the 2 for £10 deal meant a really good fish and chips for a fiver. You CANNOT beat that for value. We went to Norfolk and ate in nice places but that fish and chips really impressed. Well done Hungry Horse.

All 3 stars are for the excellent food. Horrendous service, amateur staff who were running around like headless chickens. I ordered online at 10:50am for collection at 5pm. The food wasn't ready when I arrived. I was made to wait 2o mins. I won't be ordering for collection again!!

Excellent service from all the staff and great food at very reasonable prices. If you like seafood then you'll love the 'Ocean's a Plenty' it's a feast Sea fair fit for a king. Very tasty. We have visited this restaurant before with 5 children, all of whom have particular likes and dislikes. But miracles do happen, they all cleaned their plates with gusto. Enough room for desert? Oh yes and loads to choose from. I highly recommend this family friendly pub. I'd choose this place over the Swan any day.

I took my family to The dog and Pheasant for a birthday celebration. The atmosphere there was amazing it was warm friendly and inviting. The evening we were there they had entertainment there was a singer I can't remember his name. He was great it was Christmas time as so was singing christmas songs. There was also karaoke which was great fun too. The food and drink was amazing value for money with the deals they have there. The staff were friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this pub as a great place to come together with family or friends. Always a warm welcome. We will be back again soon I'm sure.

Fairly standard chain pub fare, reasonably priced and with quick service. The menu seems to change every time I go but that's chains for you. In any case there's always plenty of choice even as a vegetarian. Recently done up with nice decor, much of it themed around dogs and pheasants.

Went there for a meal on the 19th of Jan this year and honestly it was a dissapointment the place was massively under staffed, people where clearing and cleaning there own tables the toilets where a disgrace, so much so one of the people in our group left early so they could go home and use there own toilet. However the food was nice and there was one lady in particular who made it more pleasant she was working the bar waiting tables, clearing tables and doing everything in between, and even though she was massively overworked she was doing it all with a smile, she didn't have a name tag so I can only say it was a young black lady, if your reading this dog and pheasant, give that woman a payrise and a fat bonus!!

In short, the parking area is tiny. The furnishings are outdated, when we visited there were a lot of screaming football fans, while I was trying to enjoy my food. However, the staff were friendly and the food was nice.

Great meal as was the last one, couldnt have come out quicker was actually well presented too, free starter or desert on day of visit. Not that it bothered me but server asked was meal alright, its not silver service but some people find this essential so for the review, i was asked. Its good when the only problem was i was stuffed, probably didnt need the starter but was free! Not all hungry horses have well placed tvs but this one does and was showing the snooker maybe not everyones cup of tea but was able to watch while i ate meal. They have a pool table which is free on a particular day cant remember which though, might be monday. Does tend to attract some hobo like characters though which i suppose isnt the staffs fault but cant quite give 5 stars for that, oh and although quiet on day i came which explains speed of service when parents/kids are there it can seem like a playschool.

We came on a bank holiday Monday, most items had run out, but they never said anything until the food had arrived, there was a handful of chips with the burger, no chocolate bits with the candy maina, we complained about each and the manager fixed the issues, they should have just been clear when we ordered. Been here a couple times .. 1st time food was cold but took that as there was a lot of us they wanted to bring food together. 2nd time had to wait a while for food when arrived was cold, hiccup on the icecream said no cream arrived with cream wouldn't change it had to repay for the child's pudding!!
