Reviews of Plough at Peldon
G.
Stopped at the Peldon Plough for a drink to wait for the strood causeway to Mersea to be uncovered, and what a little gem it is.
Lovely old Essex pub with great local beers and friendly staff and locals alike.
Dog friendly inside which is great.
We didn’t eat this time but saw lots of food coming out which looked and smelt amazing. Menu was a good mix of pub classics and some finer bits too.
Can’t wait to go back.
Highly recommend.

This is the second time we've been here and it doesn't disappoint at all, the service is wonderful, great staff.
The food is amazing, a great choice and so much of it, you certainly don't leave unfulfilled that's for sure. Will be back again. Thank you 🤍

Had 2 separate meals here while staying at Lodge cottage camping and glamping, Both meals were amazing and staff were very helpful and friendly, great atmosphere and pub is so sweet

We were looking for somewhere to grab some lunch and were in the area so gave it a try. A nice menu based off of BBQ style approach. We had a mixture between us of different burgers, chicken, fries etc. It was all really nice served in basket style approach. Fries were some of the best I have had. Would go back. Only marked down one star as it's pretty expensive.

Would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at the Plough for hosting our Wedding reception.
Wonderfully organised. Completely took all the worries away from us allowing us to enjoy our special day.
Bar staff and presentation of the garden was all excellent.
The BBQ was excellent and buffet was way more than we were expecting.
They went way and above what we were hoping for.
Can not recommend them enough. 🔔🍾🤵♂️👰♀️🕺

Family and friends came together at The Plough Peldon to share memories of my mother after her sudden passing. The buffet selection was ideal and the service provided was outstanding from the initial enquiry through to the actual event. Would highly recommend.

Popped in with friends on the of chance of having a meal , what a great choice we made ! Excellent place and food and staff, we will see you again soon xx

Old traditional village pub infused with new style BBQ smoked food. Loved it. 😍

A pleasant weatherboarded pub in the middle of the village with good staff and friendly locals. The toilets were clean and there are plenty of seats in the beer garden. We had the Colchester Metropolis which was excellent but a tad pricey at £4.70/pint. We also shared the BBQ platter which was good but wouldn't be to everyone's taste.

A group of us often ride out to Peldon and stop at this quaint pub. Friendly staff and good prices. Recommended!

Came for Sunday lunch. Great pub, excellent food (super crispy roast potatoes!) and service, very dog friendly too!
J. H.
Great pub with lovely food served very quickly.
Attended with a disability group of 9, female staff member was very helpful and made us very welcome, even lit the wood stove/fire to take the chill out of the bar area for us.
Will definately attend again when down this way.
Thank you.

I recently celebrated my Birthday here and will be coming back very soon! What a beautiful pub and restaurant a real gem! The food was incredible and the warm welcome from staff and locals was amazing! Thankyou so much!
S. P.
Best burger I’ve tasted in years! Also a lovely pint of Maldon Gold. In the area for a short break and just stumbled upon this little gem, going to eat here again before we head home!
G. W.
Lovely little country pub with character. The Sunday pork roast was the best I have ever tasted anywhere. No room for dessert. Our waitress was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for her. Highly recommend this pub.
D. L.
Visited the Plough today and had the big share platter, absolutely amazing, taste, portion size, verity, and the hot sauce!! You need to bottle that and sell it! Top quality!!
M. T.
Really tasty Sunday roast, the bbq meat adds a nice twist, staff very friendly and reasonable value, recommended
K. P.
This is a village pub with a big surprise! On top of the usual good beers and drinks the kitchen here is run by the Junkyard Smoke Bloke producing some of the best BBQ and smoked meats around. Add a range of burgers and every side needed to complement the meats. There are even some veggie BBQ options too! This pub is certainly worth a visit!!
J. S.
Absolutely amazing! Such a wonderfully different dining experience, a real change to standard pub grub. The bbq platter is thoroughly worth every penny. Landlord, Lauren our waitress and locals (not forgetting Monty) so friendly. HONESTLY, PUT THE PLOUGH ON YOUR TO-DO LIST!
K. M.
Fabulous visit, thankyou for looking after our group.
We had a fantastic meal in a beautiful pub.
See you again soon 👍

Great pub, we love coming here. Friendly staff and delicious food. We highly recommend the moinks (meatballs with cheese). They also have a lovely pub garden.
J. C.
Lovely settings and a warm welcome. Reason for 3 stars was unfortunately only 1 choice of draft ale IPA. Food was good hot wide choice. How ever checking the bill this am was charged £2 extra for Small Mac/cheese. Wouldn't noticed but £3 was crossed through and £5 replaced. My fault for not checking bill.
C. R.
Nice abs quiet, friendly pub. Craft beers and a selection of ciders, plenty of parking too
D. L.
What a find a little gem of a place fabulously quirky decor wonderful log fires what more could you ask for . But there's more "The Junkyard Smoke house" what a wonderful concept for a menu choose your delicious mains and build a dream meal all three of us were enthralled by the food served by super friendly staff ever helpful. Food arrived freshly cooked in an instant. Definitely worth a visit or several I'll be back such a treat to have something different and so delicious. the desserts were few but we totally enjoyed ours

We had a really good meal at the Plough at Peldon. We had the BBQ sharing platter and we were very impressed! The locals were entertaining and the staff very friendly.
Definitely give them a try.

We ordered food for takeaway here and I would highly recommend it! Food was amazing. We ordered the smash burger with all toppings, home fries (which are skin on chunks) and the smoked wings. The wings HAVE to be tried and some of the best I've had. I would say its good value for money considering the quality of the food. 10 out of 10 to the kitchen at The Plough. Will be back again soon. Thank you.
R. S.
Nice pub restaurant. food was good (we had Sunday beef) and well priced
B. O.
Great BBQ food good service.
One suggestion on the platter for 6, add an extra sausage, so much easier to share then.will definitely visit again.
R. H.
Saw the advert on the back of The Courier, just eaten most of the BBQ menu as a takeaway at home. All of it was excellent. We’ll be back and we’d also be tempted to eat in for the first time too.
I. Y.
We cycled here while on a six pub odyssey and stopped for a half of IPA. I understand why there was only one ale available (lack of custom due to Covid). The barmaid was friendly and conversed with us. We sat in chairs by the roadside, which was pretty quiet.
D. H.
Called in in the way home from Mersea. Friendly service that offers a specialist barbeque and burger menu with some interesting side orders and homemade sauces. There is a fish and chips option. Chose the "sharing barbeque platter" with various side orders and sauces. Wasn't disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed 👍.
S. W.
Very nice small country pub, great food, it leans more towards 'posh nosh' rather than 'pub grub' the quality of cuisine does live up to the higher than average pub prices but the service is some what lacking in that respect. Our glasses were empty far longer than should have been considering how small the restaurant is and the passing traffic of waitresses , we did in the end have to wave someone over. The wait was longer than i would expect for such a small service but when it did arrive it was top quality and every last morsel was eaten up. Overall a very good dining experience, will definitely be back soon. Also there is a "book share" here which i love☺☺☺
S. L.
Lovely food and nearly all gluten free which is a bonus because my husband is GF and I'm not so now we can eat out!
C. B.
Very good service, friendly staff and dog friendly. Quick service beautiful setting and great food couldn't fault our experience can't wait to go back!
j. b.
Lovely old pub definitely worth a visit
J. S.
Excellent food, we were sat in the garden which was very pleasant and out of the way, Very friendly staff would recommend
D. G.
Popped in on a Friday mid-afternoon. Despite being 3pm the kitchen was open and willing to serve food. A shared mixed platter of Italian cured meats was complemented by bread rolls, pickles and olives. Well presented and cured meat was of good quality. The rib-eye steak was slightly over cooked but tasted great. Moules and frites was done well in a white wine sauce but needed a baguette to soak up the liquor. Cheese board and port was perfectly ok. Wine list ok. Surroundings good. Staff, excellent. I recommend this place for great staff, comfortable surroundings and tasty food.
J. G.
A lot of water under the bridge since I last set foot in this lovely old pub. Pleasantly surprised to find it so much improved. Great food, attentive service and a cozy bar area make for an enjoyable lunch venue.
