Nice little place if you fancy a German or Belgian beer! Also have a few other drinks including some more unusual ciders. I had a cherry beer that was really quite good... It's a small place, and it's definitly a bit different to other places you can go drinking in Colchester... if you like a 'trim and proper' type of bar then perhaps not for you as it does feel a bit all over the place in terms of decor!

Listed 15th century, oldest commercial building in Colchester. Has Roman well beneath the structure. Great beer. Welcoming atmosphere. Music equipment and décor needs revamping. A tad leaky sometimes. Could benefit from some more young blood running or managing events. Needs to be promoted better.

If you enjoy Belgian-style beers then this is the place for you. An unrivalled bottle range plus some specials on draught, alongside some local beers and real ciders. It’s on the small side so can get busy but the staff are happy to chat and help you with your beer choices. I believe there is live music some nights also. Well worth a visit if you are in town.

A quaint little pub with much to offer both locals and visitors is the Queen Street Brewhouse. The day I visited the bar man was so helpful and knowledgeable on the many choices of beers and ales that they offered. The toilets were also very clean.

The pub is really small, but is well situated, close to Colchester Castle. There are usually a couple of ales available, including one brewed by the proprietor. What is special about the place is the range of bottled Belgian beers and various lagers. There is a small stage area for bands to play. It is an authentic, old building and I recommend it to visitors. My photo reveals that, on the outside, it is no oil painting. Do not be put off !!

The brewhouse is a full on character bar, set in one of Colchester's older buildings. Owned by Andy, a Canadian and a huge beer aficionado: the brewhouse has hands down the most eclectic selection of beers in Colchester. Particularly recommended for those who like their European beers including Belgian, Trappist and Lambic specialities. Interesting Lagers and ciders rub shoulders with stouts and spirits. Most nights have live music events. Well worth a nights visit.

Popped in for the first time last weekend in the afternoon as I'm new to the area and I like a drop of craft beer. Chatted to Andy who's a thoroughly decent bloke who told me all about his great little bar. Whilst there he gave me a taste of a Dubbel that's on tap and it was seriously good, perfect temperature and will certainly be on my list when I visit again. I took away some really tasty stout that I drank last night and it was very very good. I'll make sure I go when there's music on next time as it looks a very cosy intimate venue, really cannot wait!!

A narrow historic building housing a real gem of a public house. Beers of all types offered with a really good rotation on draft. Hugely friendly 'cheers' type atmosphere, where everyone might not know your name but it doesn't matter. Andy (landlord) has cultivated a truly unique pub in Colchester, with live music, acts etc all throughout the year. If you find yourself in Colchester for whatever reason, at a loose end, this is one pub you shouldn't miss out on visiting.

This place is really cool. The beer selection is great, the building is very old and full of character. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Love this tiny little oasis of a place. Can get a bit full when the live music playing... But not always. Fabulous range of Belgium, International and local beers, ales and ciders. Along with interesting spirits such as Saffron Gin (with good quality tonic ) Friendly knowledgeable staff who on a quiet night are willing to chat. Building oozes character but stairs to toilet are steep so not a great place for those with mobility issues. Definitely one of my favorite bars in Colchester and certainly a place I feel I can go out alone which as a female is rare.

Never has don't judge a book by it's cover applied like this. The beer selection is incredible and with beers like Westmalle and Dilerium on Tap I have found that I struggle to remember leaving. It's a proper pub, if you want gastro it's not what the place is about. But if you like a beer (or other drink) and friendly service behind the bar get yourself in the door.

This little gem has currently my favourite beer - Delirium. Sometimes there is live music and the guy who owns it has such a sweet accent - Canadian. Good crowds every evening and friendly!!!!

Hidden little gem that doesn't appear well enough on Google maps. Only found by walking past! The beer selection is amazing with about 18 cider/beer taps and dozens of bottled beer, mostly from Belgium/Germany. Can't recommend enough.

Lovely pub in a side street. If you love Belgian beer (in particular lambic) you cannot miss this place! The selection is amazing (look at the Flemish red beauty I managed to get, it is considered one of the best in the world!). Apparently they are also specialised in gin. I haven't tried the food but I it is also possible to grab a light bite.

When I was there they had live music, band called The Small Wonders playing decent 90's classic rock tracks which was well received by the clientele. Highly recommend if you're not after a bland, soulless, faux olde worlde high street pub which often sets the scene in our English cities outside of London

We really enjoyed our visit , invited by a friend who lives locally, lovely old building with beans and marble topped bar huge choice of craft and real ales I enjoyed the dog eared vibe to the whole place also they play vinyl records on the bar and you can get to choose them , mixed but mostly young crowd good prices , there is an outside gazebo for smokers, parking is not easy in this area but worth walking to and from your car.
