Reviews of The Alma

Great pub with nice food and good service. Can get really busy at times, which makes parking a tad bit of a pain - especially as they have a marquee set up in the car park which limits space a little more. There is usually space to park out on the road.
There is a pleasant outside area if warm, but also some good space to sit and eat / drink inside. On our most recent visit we managed to get in before the evening rush and managed to sit in the sun, have a drink and ordered some small plates / tapas to share. We wasn't disappointed, the food was very tasty, we were pleased that we took the decision to visit!

Excellent food, large portions at a fair price. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Would recommend and visit again.

First time here and wasn't dissapointed! The food was amazing!! I had the lamb shish kebabs and it was delicious 😋 the burger and fish and chips equally as good! Will definitely come back as there were many dishes that I wanted to try!

The building is an attractive mixture of Victorian pale yellow and red brick. What had been car park has been half replaced by a marquee and this is in addition to plenty of outside seating. Inside, the pub is warm, cosy and clean. I came here for the first time today, despite living nearby for over 30 years. I enjoyed one drink (of Tribute), which was well kept. I think I would need to try the food in order to reach a complete judgement, but I would say that I believe that the vast majority of people would appreciate a visit here.

Me and my partner visited on our way home from holiday. The staff were so accommodating and friendly. We stayed for drinks and food. The food was amazing, prepared quickly and with care. The pub and beer garden were lovely, clean and stylish. Overall, great experience! We will definitely be visiting again when in Colchester.

5 of us ate at the Alma yesterday (Sunday) after a lovely walk in the area. Roasts all round. Beautifully cooked meats large Yorkshire and what a variety of vegetables! And it included cauliflower cheese which you usually have to pay extra for. I’m veggie and it was so good to see all those vegetables including ones not always seen like roast beetroot and chard. Definitely recommend. Also a 5 min walk to look at the church and impressive Rectory up the road. We even saw a game of cricket quintessentially English. Great day out. Staff very friendly and helpful too.

Great pub. Friendly staff could not be more helpful.
Stopped here with a colleague for a quick break after a long drive from Somerset, before some night work to at the nearby retail park. Didn't have much time but the kitchen provided a tasty meal which was served very quickly.
Would definitely revisit if I'm in the area .

What an absolutely wonderful place. Sarah and the team could not be more helpful and friendly. This is our second time staying here and I thought it was great the first time, this time was even better. The chef even rustled something up as a special just for me, incredible. The bar staff are just naturally friendly and genuinely want to make sure you’re having a good time.
Visit the place for a drink, definitely visit for food, and stay over if you can, you will not be disappointed

Dropped by for lunch yesterday with a friend
We both had sandwiches which were very fresh and delicious with generous fillings.
Lovely spacious garden to sit in.
The outside pizza oven/ barbecue area is a great addition.
Pleasant atmosphere on a lovely sunny day 🌞
I grew up in copford when the Alma was just a sleepy village pub so I am very impressed to see how the new owners have turned it around and are running it to its full potential 👏👏👏
Will definitely be visiting again very soon & will recommend highly to my circle of friends and family. 😊
