Very friendly staff and owner. Calm atmosphere, no TVs or game machines, thank goodness! Excellent for a quiet drink and chat with friends or perhaps to sit and read a book or the papers. They opened as much as they could during lockdown, which I think was admirable. They often have interesting guest beers and ales. Sometimes I wished they turned down or off the music, but then I am a grumpy old git.

Well kept beer, friendly bar staff and customers. I wrote about access earlier but a reminder that it is an old building with some steps. You can sit outside at a pavement table or there is a patio area at the back of the pub. It has been refurbished inside with comfortable chairs around smaller tables, so easier to navigate your way through

Very popular traditional pub serving a wide range of ales, lagers and lots of other beers. A good menu and good atmosphere. A real local pub with quality.

Very friendly Adnams boozer. Beer well kept and a nice courtyard to the rear. Right next to an Indian restaurant also so handy if you want a pint before or after a curry :)

Been wanting to come here for a while. There was always a rumour that this was a good pub because the old boys undergoing radiotherapy at the (now closed) cancer treatment wing of Colchester hospital used to sneak out here, much to the annoyance of the nurses . Good traditional boozer. Adnams pub so goes for the nautical feel and its done well. Usual selection of bitter, broadside, and a new englander (mosaic in this case) and a rotating adnams special.

This pub would be alot better if they had more things to do ie a dart board or darts team etc quiz nights BBQ nights . Comedy nights karaoke nights. That is all this place is missing it could be a huge gold mine

The staff here were so kind. I came in for one solitary pint with my pet parrot, Bernardo De Los Santos Silva, and he was happy with the cleanliness. I finished my pint and continued my night by getting a cab home and crying to Mulan wishing someone would make a man out of me

Just on the edge of town. Old school pub with decent, well kept beer and nice atmosphere. Had food here for the first time on Sunday, wasn't disappointed. Their roast dinner was outstanding.

A great traditional boozer, selling Adnams and guests. I was a bit put out that there was nothing veggie on the menu, only to be told that they could do a mushroom burger. SO WHY ISN'T IT ON THE MENU? It came with chips and salad, and it was delicious.

We stopped in here for a bite to eat and a drink. The staff were really accomodating and freindly. The food was proper home cooked fare, not flashy just good grub. Another upside is it was reasonably priced. I had a couple of pints and they were both good quality. Worth the walk out of the town centre when shopping in Colchester.

What a lovely surprise!! My Mrs bought me double Pie' double mash from the Hospital Arms ..loved every mouthful.. wish they done it on friday also. Beats fish and chips anyday....
