Reviews of The Lamarsh Lion
T. M.
Visited with a couple family members for a Sunday lunch and was very pleased, restaurant is well kept and has a nice atmosphere, service was good, and food arrived in really good time. Everything was really fresh and tasty, and the portion sizes were decent too. My only complaint is that the mixed veg on the side was slightly cold. Overall a good experience though, would recommend
R. T.
Lovely pub with very nice staff. Good food with an excellent vista at the front. Can be very quiet and just hear the leaves in the wind when sitting at the front.

Lovely pub with really good food and all at decent prices! Dog friendly too! We were visiting St Stephens chapel and the Bures Dragon and I'd read great reviews for the Lamarsh Lion and booked a table. We were all really impressed and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Can recommend the camembert to share, the pork belly, fish and chips, the burger and the fajitas. The brownie was also a lovely dessert. They do a range of baguettes on the menu which looked great. My dog was also made to feel welcome which is a plus in my book! We saw lots of people stopping in who were hiking or riding bikes as well as a few locals. We forgot one of our mobile phones and they were kind enough to call us to let us know it was safe behind the bar until we picked it up. This is a really nice pub with lovely staff and we all said we would love to return!

Fabulous Sunday Lunch at this glorious community run and much loved pub. Food was fabulous - standard Sunday Roast with enormous Yorkshire puddings and deliciously sinful cauliflower cheese alongside tenderly cooked vegetables. Puddings were huge and sublime - and a cut above what you'd find in a pub normally. Fabulously friendly Nikki at the bar and staff that were pleased to accommodate every request and who were incredibly kind to our children. A treat and we will be back!

Generous portions. Shared the Creamy mushrooms on toast with my wife and neither of us could finish our mains. Vegetables cooked to perfection.

Lovely staff...lovely food

What a wonderful place and a cracking find - highly recommended!
The pub itself is a treasure; very clean and tidy, well laid out and the staff (we were looked after by the lovely Emmie) were so very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Considering the age of the pub, there was consideration made for wheelchair users, which was a blessing as my dear old Dad is 88 and wheelchair-bound so this was most welcome. Many thanks!
The food was most acceptable and portion sizes were very generous (and the the cream, meringue and fresh fruit dessert was an absolute triumph! 🥰).
The view while dining, overlooking the Suffolk countryside, was also a joy.
All-in-all, a fabulous establishment and we will definitely be wending our way back there again, hopefully, in the not too distant future.

We had an early Christmas family get together at The Lamarsh Lion and had the most beautiful 3 course Christmas meal, nothing was a problem for the staff. Wonderful service, beautiful food and real value for money.
V. G.
Very happy with the meal I had at The Lamarsh Lion. Very friendly helpful staff. The food was excellent. Nice setting with lovely views of the local countryside and the pub was full of character.
D. W.
Lovely pub, great food and friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. Dogs and children welcome.
D.
Absolutely lovely pub, had a wonderful meal with friends to celebrate a joint birthday, whilst staying at Coppins Farm. Couldn't recommend more.
c. w.
Lovely pub but unable to order food as they were fully booked....although there appeared to be plenty of spare tables
M. H.
Very family orientated local pub. Dog friendly and large carpark
B. C.
Had a lovely meal here with my Dad and brother. A lovely pub and very friendly and helpful staff. I understand the beers are good too.Thoroughly recommend
T. D.
We were having lunch there as a group of 6 and my wife and I arrived a few minutes early. We were greater heartily by a friendly lady at the bar and she promptly showed us our table when I mentioned the name it had been booked under.
Service was not.only.prompt and attentive but friendly too. She could not have made us feel more welcome.
The food was delicious. I had a beef burger and my wife had scampi. All cooked to perfection. The dessert was just the icing needed to crown a perfect lunch not to mention ALL at a VERY competitive price too.
Won't be long before we are back at this traditional English public house. Keep up the good and easant service folks!!

A proper little hidden gem. Found on an organized walk, now been back several times. Community owned, great selection of beers, lovely food, cozy atmosphere. Love it.
A. B.
Just a wonderful pub to go into. The staff were brilliant and friendly. We will definitely be going back there again soon!
L. G.
My kinda of pub....great atmosphere, good ale and wine selection and decent grub at a sensible price in !lovely ancient surroundings
M. H.
Lovely food reasonably priced friendly staff
T. C.
Very friendly staff and great place to eat. I recommend the beef burger which I can honestly say was one of the best I have ever tasted at a very reasonable price. I will definitely be back again soon as I have been told that the Sunday roast is also very good.
H. D.
What a wonderful little pub in a fantastic location. Dog friendly also!
P. R. H.
Lovely pub. The view sitting in front of pub was great. Tell you your in the country. Plus beer was nice.
s. o.
Staff are innovating and trying to do different things in tough times. Last Saturday they had a take away tapas menu . We ordered 6 dishes and they were all fresh, beautifully cooked , tasty and good value for money . Thank you it was an excellent idea and even better food we really enjoyed it.
J. M.
Great service and a good variety of home cooked food. Generous portions.
h. c.
Lovely views across the valley. Community pub so keep it supported. Plenty of outside seating. Good beers. Food was being served though we didn't eat. NHS App and hand sanitizer on arrival. Large car park. Pleasant walks nearby
N. B.
Really good food, enjoyed a tasty vegetarian sunday dinner. Seems to be dog friendly which is great. Only issue was how cold the room was - we all had to keep our coats on!
Thank you to the owner for a response to the above - we look forward to visiting again, and hopefully to enjoy it being toasty warm.
S. H.
Lovely community pub with plenty of outside seating away fro the hustle and bustle.
Food is really good and there is a wide range of wines & spirits to choose from.
Nice to sit near the walnut trees and relax in the sun.
J.
Nice, friendly pub serving great choice of beer and food. We went twice for an evening meal, and both times the food was excellent quality with generous portions. There is also a coffee and cake option throughout the day and both cakes we tried were scrumptious - would definitely recommend! We'll be back!
B. S.
Great meal out on a Friday night. The meal was faultless with great portion sizes and fair prices. 10/10
S. J.
Pleasant and welcoming historic pub. With good views and a great atmosphere. Not my first time here and definitely not my last.
A. D.
Went here with my wife and friends had a lovely meal and there was a good group playing, lovely to have live music 🎶 host's were amazing definitely going back , merry Christmas
J. E.
A classic English country pub overlooking the Stour valley - on the Essex side. Recently refurbished and owned by the community. (Anyone can own a share!) Lovely atmosphere, great views, friendly people.
Basic, fresh, pub food which was excellent value, and delicious beer, properly looked after.
You might need to book on popular nights. Kitchen was pretty busy.
Needs further work outside, which will come, I'm told. But great to see this old place being supported again when so many pubs have closed.
W. T.
Nice pub and people that were working were friendly and helpful.
Has a large garden and nice play area.
Didn't eat there so can't rate the food but it looked good.
S. T. D. C. C.
Our 1st visit here today although others in our group had been before and enjoyed it. We thoroughly enjoyed the environment and the sunday roast was the best I've had from a pub in years 👍. The staff were very polite too and the pricing was reasonable we wouldn't hesitate to return in the future 😀
G. L.
fourth time at the lion had the Lamb again excellent with good thick slices
unfortunately the vegetables let the meal down , did not find any on the plate that were cooked well Cauliflower and parsnips shriveled potatoes over cooked but not crispy peas and beans must of been cooked in the same pot just like mums! whitebait starter very nice again,
will I go back definitely only hope they can get some improvement in the veg
Beer is very good unfortunately ran out of the Ghost Ship
why 4 stars the staff and ambiance of the pub otherwise 3,
G. C.
Done a nice refurbishment service a little slow but it is a community pub so do not expect to be super quick. Very good portions veg could have been cooked a little more. I had chicken curry jacket which was very nice. Lovely views do give it a try they work very hard
P. B.
I didn't eat there but have made plans to next week after visiting for a drink. Lovely pub with fantastic views. If the food is as good as the venue I'm in for a treat!
E. H.
This pub is nice enough, there is a good view over the Stour Valley from the tables at the front. The wine is not great though if you are a wine drinker. I had a quite disappointing Sauvignion. It is a community pub and is popular with the local people. The food is also fairly basic, the Tuna melt panini I had was nice enough, but I was actually looking for something lighter, which was not really available. The pub has just put a new children's play area at the back and are clearly trying hard for their customers.
E. S.
Had a lovely meal at the Lamarsh Lion today. There was a big group of us and the staff were really helpful, attentive and friendly. The food was really tasty with good portion sizes. I would definitely recommend the Bakewell Tart and custard for dessert!
It's always good to support a community pub and the plans for the future sound very impressive. Overall a lovely lunch out!
S. C.
Decided to try a new place for a Saturday night meal, what a delight, the food was amazing, great atmosphere with the bonus of a live band! Definitely will be returning again and recommending to family and friends.
J. S.
Friendly country pub with good value food and great staff
G. C.
Lovely pub. Really friendly service and great food
W. W.
Lovely pub on a good walking route. Very reasonable prices and delicious food. The great range of good beer was well kept.
B. G.
Stunningly beautiful views, friendly staff and a nice selection of drinks available. Food acceptable and a small menu covers most bases and at least was freshly cooked to order.
P. M.
A community owned “proper” pub, fine food and a great range of ales. We enjoyed an evening there with a local live band called the Bijoux Toots, a fine time was had by all ;-)
D. S.
Wednesday Afternoon Celebration Lunch at the Lion in Lamarsh was lovely. Had a great sausage and mash washed down with a nice 0% lager. :-) My wife enjoyed a blood orange gin with tonic and a nice glass of Malbec with her lunch. Can't wait to go back in a taxi to try the ales on offer. The staff are some of the best encountered in the trade.
R. M.
Great choice of local ale. One that I had was very good. Didn't eat as was just passing but the food looked lovely.
S. P.
I have been staying in the area for the past fortnight and have enjoyed my 3 visits to the Lamarsh Lion.
On each visit the food quality, value for money and presentation gets 5 stars !
Likewise the staff, have been very pleasant, courteous and friendly again 5 stars.
There are only a couple of minor issues that have stopped me giving it full marks.
1. The bar area is so small, and when a small group congregate there, it is awkward to get served, pay your bill etc. I'm not offering solutions here, but im sure some improvements can be made.
2. There is also a specials board for the food, yet if you come in from the car park you wouldn't know they're available. As there is only one board and it is only visible from the front entrance and again if the bar is busy you wouldn't see it!
3. On a similar thread, there are promotional evenings.
E.g. Wednesdays they have burger nights, but again where do you find out about these, they are not advertised, and not on the menu or the board.
4. And this really is a minor point. The sofa in the big dining room looks awkward and is in a funny position. I.e. too near to those who are eating !
Those points aside, I wouldn't hesitate to have a pint and a meal here, and am looking forward to when we next return!
S. T.
I'm not sure if I did this by mistake or if my 2 year old son has gotten hold of my phone. Changed to 5* as it's a brilliant pub with great food at decent prices. Apologies for the scare ;)
T. C.
Oh my, a fantastic pub ! 5star everything. The staff, the beer the atmosphere was amazing and the music.... Couldn't be better ! The option to camp over means this could be my new long distance local 😍🎻😍🎻😍🎻😍
M. H.
Absolutely fantastic! Excellent atmosphere, wonderful service plus the food and drink is delicious. Going to be frequenting much more often.
E. J.
All staff did brilliantly despite it being the busiest ive ever seen the pub. Food was good, beer even better
D. A.
Lovely country pub, great selection of beer and food. Plenty of parking. Modern payment system. Well worth a visit.
J. D.
Great meal, really helpful and a lovely vibe to it x
P. R.
This pub was no longer trading on my last visit in Feb 2017 but I'm delighted it has reopened as a community pub. As such I'll award a safe 3 stars until I visit later in the year as I am unable to remove my out of date review.
P. S.
Very pleasant generous portions of food. Children's play area a bonus granddaughter loved it
R. T.
Good pub with a great view over the valley. Had a beef burger and was one of the best tasting meat burgers I have had and was good value too.
M. E.
It was great to see the pub open again, and what a fine job has been done on the refurbishment ... The service was excellent and welcoming ... However, we only popped in for a pint and although the range of cask beers was ok - the beer was far too cold which took away much of the flavour ... It was then pulled through the pump with the addition of a sparkler, which removed what remained of any taste ... It reminded me of John Smiths Extra Smooth, the one and only time I drank it ... I hope that they put that right soon as the pub looks so good and deserves to do well ... the cask beer as it stands will not please any beer buff!!!
S. W.
Lovely country pub and local staff that make you feel welcome. Great food and the roast is superb.
P. C.
Spent a lovely few hours on a summer late afternoon here. Good beer, good wine and good staff.

(Translated) A friendly country restaurant with a pub. Cool family atmosphere. You can come here with your dog. A good place for a family dinner. The place has a very interesting history. Local residents contributed to the rebuilding of this pub. Very nice views of the surrounding fields. You can eat well and calm down with a koaja. I recommend.
