This pub is tucked down a little lane, which to be honest unless you know it is there you probably wouldn't notice. Have popped in a couple of times a few years back, but not recently. Had noticed that they have a garden so decided to go again and sit outside. Whilst there we then decided to get some food. Food was well priced and good size, and tasted good too. They also have kids meals, but these were £5 which isn't quite as well priced as the adult meals...! They also have plenty of drinks choices, the wife particularly liked the gins. A few craft type beers and proper cider also available. The garden has some beach hut style areas to sit but also picnic benches. Fair bit of space outside. Staff were friendly and were able to recommend drinks which is always nice when your not sure...!

Fantastic compared to my last visit a fair few years back. All refurbished and a nice friendly atmosphere. Great beer garden too. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because there was only one person on the bar during a busy period, so it was very slow getting served. Highly recommend overall though!

Well worth 5 * Rating, good well prepared quality/quantity food with well stocked lagers and independent ales ciders and various spirits, a prompt polite friendly service at a good price. There is plenty of room outside with their beach hut themed beer garden. Look forward to going there again.

Best roasts in Colchester, and a wide variety of ales, always changing. Really nice garden and very welcoming. They always have something on, be it a steak night, or a gift bag you can purchase for father's Day. Kept many of us going during lockdown with many different delivery and collection offerings.

The live and let live is a little treasure tucked away of the main road this traditional estate pub offers excellent food and a really good selection of beers. The garden has had a complete makeover to include heated beach huts that enable external dining undercover (and with heat!!) Friendly staff and great service. well recommended

Friendly pub with a good selection of beers. Decent no thrills home made pub food at good prices. Annual beer festivals are worth a visit and the occasional live music nights too. It has a large beer garden with multiple colourful beach huts

Great public house with brilliant and polite staff. Ales are amazing with plenty of selection. Getting on to food then Gordan Ramsey you must visit as this public house has the best food in Colchester. Tasty and presentation excellent. Plus if you want a Sunday roast then book in advance as you shall miss out. To finish I have to say its certainly one of the best pubs in the UK so congratulations and I look forward in returning soon.

Afternoon tea was lovely. Not the usual massive scone, but two very nice, warm smaller scones. Easier to handle and less fuss. Triffle and cupcake was very nice. All served by friendly helpful staff.

Fantastic Saturday lunch in the beach huts!We were a large party and were looked after so attentively from booking to leaving. staff were absolutely brilliant and really did take care of us. Great pub with amazing garden and good value, tasty pub grub. The beach huts are so quirky and enjoyable. Thank you so much 😊 can't wait to come back

Lovely quaint little setting that could be so much more. They have a little kids climbing frame/fibreglass tree thing in the beer garden and a few chickens running around too. Its not fenced in though. The garden could also do with a good tidy up and some repairs - see photos - really lets this place down unfortunately. There are 2 sides to the bar one more of a restaurant and the other has the bar games, pool and darts. Nice enough staff friendly and polite.

Nice place to visit, for real ale drinkers it would be a great choice. Nice big garden with ample space, great food. If you are passing give it a go. Bit off the beaten track but worth the effort. Great service, friendly staff.

I have been really impressed with the imaginative and energetic approach of the proprietor and his staff in keeping his business operating in the bleak Covid environment. The range and quality of beers has been excellent throughout the time I have been coming here since restrictions were relaxed in late May 2020 and I came back on the first day of reopening in April 2021. Work has been completed on converting the beer garden/orchard into a space that can accommodate punters outdoors.

Excellent pub, took my wife and parents for Sunday lunch and had well cooked food with excellent service. Have a large vegetarian section to their menu as well as varied meals from steak to sweet and sour. Price will not break the bank and the pub is high on the campaign for real ales list of best pubs. Good parking with beer garden. The pub is tucked away from the main roads but I highly recommend that you try it.

Clean & friendly pub, great selection of ales. The barmaid was excellent and provided small samples when a new barrel came on to help us choose the next round. The annual beer and sausage festival is worth keeping an eye out for.

Just had some take away Sunday roasts for mother's day, beef, chicken and a lamb, all extremely tasty, huge Yorkshire puddings and plenty of trimmings.. could not fault it and no washing up. Top class 😀

Great local pub, a warm welcoming environment for regulars and newcomers alike. Dogs are welcome, free roaming chickens in the garden and not to mention the wonderful bar staff who are second to none, including the owner and land lady are absolutely fantastic! The Sunday roast is all made from scratch, delicious and incredible value! Recommend the love to anyone!

Pretty good, probably the best for customer use pool cues in Colchester, though table plays very fast, was still 50p last time i played which is pretty good. Standard drinks, not exactly cheap though not expensive either. Must have the only fruit machine anywhere near here that doesn't accept notes, unless you have buckets of coins you cant play lol.

The pub is tucked in the middle of the estate. A typical local pub. If you like ales, it's the place to go. The landlords and the guests (regulars) are very friendly. The garden is welcoming and at the back
