We love the Rovers Tye. My fiancee and I have eaten here on a number of occasions, and can honestly say never had a bad meal. The chef does well coping even during the busy times. The staff look after you extremely well, they are always smiling, always ask is everything ok with your meal. Nothing is any bother, for them if you go away disappointed, I would be surprised. We always leave a little tip, for their hospitality. We Recommend a visit . Thank you Rovers Tye. See you soon x

Love this place! The location is great, and it has a nice beer garden. The staff are also lovely, particularly Rachel. She always goes above and beyond, and makes an effort to remember you and your order, and is generally always lovely! Couldn’t recommended it highly enough

We were passing through Colchester and stopped at the Rovers for a bite to eat. Food was very good and excellent value. We stayed to have a few drinks and one member of the team provided an excellent service, Rachel. She was polite, friendly and very helpful. She is a credit to the Rovers team. A really pleasant experience and will definitely revisit next time we are in Colchester.

We originally went to Table Table by the Premier Inn. We were met by a grumpy waiter who said they had no tables for 2 people for at least an hour,even though restaurant was quite. We therefore went to the Rovers Tye and were met by staff who couldn't have been more welcoming. The menu was great and the food was lovely and extremely good value. Will definitely return next time we're in Colchester.

At £11.99 for two main courses you're not going to get Michelin Star food. What you do get is good value pub grub and friendly service. We had a vegan pie and a steak and ale pie - both were excellent. You also get your shopping bag with the dogs' bowls in it kept for you till you realise where you left it and can get back to Colchester to fetch them (thank you.)

Came for a meal. The hostess station was unmanned. I’m disabled and can’t walk far so I sat down at the first table to wait. When the hostess came (she was about 48+ years old with short dark brown hair), she aggressively asked me if someone seated me there. I said no, I was waiting for the hostess station to be manned and I needed to sit down while waiting as I’m disabled. The waiting staff gave me such a dirty look and I mentioned this out loud as I was so annoyed and I know from her reaction that she heard my comment. When we were served by her she was calling us all sweethearts and being so nice but it was already too late. The look on her face let me know she needs another job and she’s not happy there! If you’re not happy with your job, don’t make people feel like they’ve made a huge faux pas, be professional v

Talk about character! Beautiful place with low beams and exposed brick work and fire places. Absolutely loads of tables, they are everywhere. The food is ok but nothing to write home about this 4 star score is for the property itself. The menu is quite large for a pub and there is something for everyone on it. There is a little kids park out the front right by the road that is enclosed by a picket fence . It could be bigger and better positioned for safety in my mind.

Easily the best Sunday rost I've ver had! Everything here is a plus. Great, fast and friendly service, amazing food (!) big selection and reasonably quick delivery to the table. The lamb was slow cooked and literally fell of the bone by itself. The vegetables well done, not mushy but nice and tender. The steak came on a sizzling hot plate. We picked this pub because of the previous ratings here on Google. Well deserved.

Large, busy pub in north Colchester. Popular with groups, couples and families, this pub provides a selection of drinks and has an extensive menu of inexpensive meals, including starters/nibbles and desserts. It has character, with old beams and a cosy feel, and a lively atmosphere. There are a few screens to football fans happy, but these are not intrusive and do not dominate, so don't be put off if you're not a fan. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's probably best to book a table at weekends because it will be full. There are two sets of toilets but I don't know if there's one for wheelchair users. There is a large car park (free) with dedicated entrance and exit.

We had booked a table for 8 people. We were crammed in around a small table with a bench and 3 chairs. When we asked for an extra chair we were just met with a guy telling us we could get 5 people on the bench... there was already 4 of us on there elbow to elbow and he wanted to get another person to sit in the same place which you could very obviously see wasn't going to happen. After having to basically argue back he reluctantly went to get another chair. Comfort of the customers isn't a priority on his list

Visiting from Canada last week and stopped in twice for beers and food. Great food, great service and prices were reasonable. Our table had Philly Steak sandwich, Chicken vindaloo, Mixed Grill and Turkey Cesar salad. Menu was amazing and I was spoiled for choice. The smell of sizzling steaks wafting through the air as they were being served made me second guess my Cesar Salad choice. Oh well, next time! Nice pub/restaurant with a traditional great pub feel.

This is the first I have visited rovers tye and to say I'm impressed us an understatement. Everything on the menu looks so good I had a job to choose my husband and I thought the foid was beautiful. They managed to get us in even though we hadn't booked and then we had to do the orders by app... No big deal ..everything was hot and arrived in good time. The staff were so polite and helpful, although we only had fifteen minutes left of our reservation they were still happy to get desert. It was a perfect place to bring my wife for her birthday. Long waits for service. App to order drinks not great as if you can't see the choice of drink ie black coffee you have to order via app then go to bar to clarify order which seems pretty daft. Some of our food cold and did not resemble advertised photos. Menu on website is not what is on offer in pub. Lots of items not offered. Dirty chairs and outside tables very rickety. No rush to go back.

While we waited at the main bar (on three occasions) the gentlemen as the bar was talking about football and chatting up the ladies at one side of the bar and almost ignored the other side of the bar. When I asked him if he was serving he said he was talking which isn't really ideal. Food was good when it arrived and the service of the waiting team was great

I love this place and even though we have one in Ipswich the food is better here, despite same menu. Service can be very slow at times but we don't go if we are in a hurry. If in the Colchester area, always make a point of eating here now. We've visited three times since January, and will be going back again very soon...... The menu has a very good choice of dishes at very competitive prices. We can highly recommend their steaks - we've never had a bad one here - always cooked to perfection..... The service is always excellent, with the waiting staff very friendly and attentive. It's very easy to feel relaxed here, which makes it a very pleasant evening out. Would have no hesitation at all in recommending this restaurant for a meal.

The food is OK if you order the right things, otherwise your steak always seems to come on a skillet so ends up overcooked and the burgers always are dry, it doesn't matter how you ask for it. Ordered XL mixed grill, 8oz sirloin meal and kids chicken nuggets. Mixed grill: even after asking for the eggs to be soft were so hard you couldn't dip a chip in, the steak was so grisly the steak knife wouldn't cut it which was disgusting but apart from that was edible but not enjoyable as the meal was ruined. Sirloin meal was asked for rare which turned up well done. The only positive was the management rectified by giving us the kids meal and side dish for free. It's pub grub so you don't expect too much.

Used to do a great meal for our yearly lads weekend. Sadly the quality has fallen with recent years, weather because its owned by a chain or because of kitchen changes I'm not sure. Went there on a Tuesday lunchtime expecting it to be empty, however it was rammed inside, they seem to have a special deal Monday and Tuesday. Given the number of customers was worried the food would take ages, however it arrived super quick, piping hot and all at the same time, excellent service throughout. Food though varies, wings good, sides all good, steaks average. They are served on sizzling hot platters which means they keep cooking and unless you ask for another plate steaks quickly become overdone. Quality of steaks questionnable, rib eye had little flavour, which wasn't helped by lack of seasoning and no grill marks / crust on the surface, no evidence of being flame grilled. Fairly good value though on a Monday / Tuesday but quality could be better.

Good popular pub, plenty of seating but really busy at certain times(Sunday lunch for example)you really need to book which isn't a problem and I think they do the best that they can considering the amount of people that they accommodate. Long waits for a table are quite common often in a crowded environment, with staff seemingly unable to even give a clue as to how long it might be. In the meantime empty tables wait unused! Food prices are quite reasonable and the quality is generally OK.

Some dishes, such as the Nachos are extremely salty- a good excuse for more beer though. The beer is good, they definitely take care of the beer lines. The Rovers Tye, is a modern traditional English pub run by Greene King. Beers are IPA, Abbot and usually a guest beer. Food is excellent value pub grub. I would recommend booking, seriously, the Rovers is very busy whenever I visit.
