Visited few times and I must say it definitely improved comparing to year or so ago. Attentive very helpful staff . Food was very well presented and cooked to perfection. Very good variety of drinks especially Cocktails which were yummy ! Overall 5 out of 5 for me . Well done

Took a while for staff to come over and serve us. However once we caught their attention, the waitress was helpful with our order. They have an offer on for starters and a cocktail pitcher. The space is cosy, warm and welcoming and ideal for a catch up with friends. Only table service is allowed and cannot order at the bar due to COVID restrictions. Staff wore masks and seating was socially distanced.

TLDR: food for reasonable price. Goods points: * Fast served. * Normal portion size. * Close to town center. Bad points: * Low- salted food (probably good for Englishmen, however not expected by me). * Sticky tables. Looks like someone put a lot of beer on the all furniture earlier. * We ordered burger with cheese and bacon, however it did not have both. Probably I did not spell correctly (or chef mixed up meals).

Food and drink is cheap but it has some "undesirable characters" that tend to visit. Probably because of the cheap booze. Had a table of 14 year old looking girls, swearing away and shouting across the restaurant. All the apple juice gave them a sugar rush and made them lose their minds. Not the restaurants fault, though.

Staff welcoming drinks reasonable. Only complaint tables really sticky both on top and underneath when we tried to move it out a bit so we could be more comfortable. Also floor sticky as me and my daughter had sandles on and we both commented our feet felt sticky. Need to speak to cleaning staff please as not a nice exspence.

There seems to be various problems with this place, certainly according to other posters here. I would certainly be wary at nights when the bouncers are about. My post does not relate to that as i generally come during the day, places like Yates, spoons, chain pubs have a reputation for being cheap and cheerful but at £4.40 for a pint of strongbow (and fosters/carlsberg are all north of £4) it is very expensive with most pubs in the area being cheaper, you would be hard pressed to find a more expensive pint. Question is if Spoons can charge £3, why is it so expensive here?

It's a fun place to go for a drink, sing and a dance. Lots of ladies but aged between 18 and 25 mainly so if you are an older gentleman you may want to go elsewhere.

After finishing the main they left the plates on the table even after bringing our desert! Then I had to go up and ask for spoons for the desert. It's a pity as we all enjoyed the food. I visit here occasionally when in town and the service is always quick, and more often than not friendly and efficient. My last visit was outstanding. I booked a works do and the whole thing from start to finish was professional and first class. I would recommend this venue to everyone whether as a venue for a big event or a simple drink with friends.

Ate here for the first time last night. It was fairly quiet but still good atmosphere, staff friendly and decent music, loud enough but not so you had to shout to be heard. Food was decently priced, good portions and good choice. If I had a small criticism, it would be to suggest the novelty serving dishes are replaced with ordinary plates - it's not easy chasing a piece of steak around a bowl of salad trying to cut it up and the trays for the burgers just constantly slid into each other. Other than that, one of the best value meals we've had in a long while, we will eat here again.

Those who know Yates bars knows its a great place to socialise, chill with cheap drinks and simple bar food. The staff here was friendly and not intrusive. There is alot of seating of different styles (high chairs. Stolls, sofa seats) which is great. The clientele were locals of all different ages and they are just chilling. This particular Yates was a nice bar but given the location im sure come evening it can get busy as University/College are not far away.

Ok ok. I understand there are allot of students in colchester and that cheap food and booze gets them in.... but.... why wotists or monster munch in a burger. I get that it's a novelty but I'm so confused. Probably because I'm old now (35) and miss the point. This isn't why I give it 3. There are various reasons for that. It is mainly because there was a very helpful member of staff who assisted us and if it wasn't for her I would be up there with a pitchfork demanding closure. Look, it's a Yates where kids get hammered of an evening, folk get smashed in the afternoon and families try and have a meal because there's not much choice in colchester (yes I know about nando's and the other burger outlets and independent places) but is still slightly better than the wetherspoons. Respect to the staff. You haven't got much to work with.
