Reviews of Silk Mill Derby

Took our grandchildren here for lunch today and we were really impressed.. Fantastic freindly service and the food was excellent and very good value for money £32 50 for 2 children and 2 adults including drinks
R.
Lovely pub, lovely food, excellent customer service, Dog friendly. Very happy customer and I would highly recommend 👍
A. J.
Our first visit for Mother's day lunch. All staff were very welcoming and friendly. Good choice of food and a lot of it. Certainly value for money. All the atmosphere of a traditional pub which made a great change.
D. G.
Was in the silk mill on Saturday and had a burger and my other half had a combo which was fantastic and reasonably priced. Claire prepared our meals in a timely manner. Couldn’t fault anything. Would highly recommend this place to anyone look for a great quirky pub
E. S.
Been here many times, beautiful pub with the most friendly and attentive staff. Food is absolutely lush and fab selection of alcohol. 10/10 can’t beat such a classic pub
M. T.
Food quality certainly not what it was in days gone by.
Called in with a colleague for a midweek lunch, place was empty apart from another table. Service excellent from the bar, but the quality of the food was poor. The pie of the day was of poor quality and the chips appeared to have been cooked a while ago and were dry and of poor quality. Even the scampi was limp, no crispy outer as they should be cooked. Maybe an off day??
I. B.
Popped in with some friends Saturday night to catch the evening sport, ended up staying for the whole night and even had a bite to eat, great beer and the wings were Incredible, just a shame about the result of the England game! Shout out to Claire and Debbie in the kitchen
J. K.
Reserved a table the other week for me and the girls to come for some drinks, had such a lovely time and we all throughly enjoyed it! Great to see such young and enthusiastic bar staff who greeted us as soon as we got there and helped us get to our table (even though someone was sat there, how silly lol). Love the selection of ciders, the cola cube one was my fave but they really do have something for everyone. The ones of us not on the scrummy ciders sampled a few of the cocktails and were not disappointed, will defo be back soon!
A. M.
A very nice exhibition centre with it's own RB211 Rolls Royce jet engine. It is also a great place for children to have hands on learning. It also had an exhibition of the poppies that were on show at the Tower of London, a superb show with the poppies cascading down from the tower.

This pub has a good deal of passing trade and a few regulars due to its position behind Derby Cathedral. The food is excellent and since its makeover a couple of years ago the décor is very good befitting a quality place to enjoy a pint or two. The Silk Mill has a wide range of real ales with staff who are very helpful in recommending which beers suit the customers requirements. A great quality boozer located right behind the Cathedral for easy navigation !! Has a great beer garden in Summer and proper log fires in Winter. Enjoy. M
P. R.
6 real ales. Had Dancing Duck Abuction 5.5%. Excellent. Food looked 😋 highly Recommended
B. G.
Great beer festival with some fab entertainment on Saturday night, really enjoyed the evening. Food went down a storm too.
J. S.
The best Sunday lunch I've had in a very long time. We went as a party of 6 following a family wedding the day before. The staff were friendly and helpful. They got our various requests for "no gravy", "just as plash of gravy" and "lots of gravy" perfect for each person. We all agreed that we couldn't fault the meal at all. Generous portions and served very hot. It's such a shame that we don't live near enough to visit more regularly. Also a great variety of flavoured ciders which one of our party really enjoyed and tested a few!
D. M.
We had our team Christmas meal here and all 11 of us had a great time. The food was good, loads of great drinks options (including local ales) and the service was great too with a very warm welcome. Given that it was a Christmas do it was very reasonably priced :-)
S. F.
Had a lovely time at the pub. Food is delish and all the staff are so welcoming. Looking forward to coming back to try the infamous roast. 10/10
A. B.
Great and busy pub in Derby. Lots of history. Everyone was having a good time. Would prefer to have a couple more ale choices on long pull.
T. P.
Been dropping in here for years now . Unfortunately absolutely packed on last visit . Plenty of bar staff but they seemed to have other things to occupy there time . Always a good selection of real ale very well kept although I find this bar slightly on the expensive side but it is town.
M. S.
Obviously has a great selection of ciders some of the strongest ciders I've ever drank which tastes actually nice not horrible. A brilliant atmosphere a jewel of Derbyshire.
D. W.
Wanted to try the new menu tonight we were not disappointed. Absolutely fantastic food and service from Hollie, Harry and chef Lou 100% recommend.
S. F.
Swung by Thursday as me and the missus heard there was a quiz on, needless to say there was a brilliant atmosphere and the host Rhys was hilarious, great crowd involvement and money raised for a good cause. He'll never make it as a Bruce Forsyth tribute act, however
P. M.
Great choice of drinks. Food tasty too. Staff always pleasant and polite.
C. D.
Incredibly friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Drinks are somewhat expensive compared to a wetherspoons but expected for the quality of the pub
E. B.
Great selection of beers, friendly polite staff always a pleasure to sample guest ales.
L. C.
A properly brilliant, clever, interesting and well created Museum - as well as set of creative workspaces for young people to learn different crafts. Very very impressed!
Z. C.
Great food & excellent service. Special mention to Hollie who was a delight! Look forward to next time!
J. I.
A bit of a wait for our food and my toast was fairly hard on my club sandwich, clean pub though.
J. S.
Great pub, great food. Special thanks to Hollie for being so welcoming and helpful!

We went into the Silk Mill for Sunday Lunch very warm welcome from the staff showed us to a table ordered drinks which were bought to us then we placed our orders for lunch didn't wait long for it the food was well presented on your plate and plenty of it the Lunch was 10 out of 10 the puddings are good value if you order with your dinner Debbie was the chef and she gets 10 out of 10 keep up the good Nathan was excellent well worth
G. P.
Lovely pub with really friendly staff. Went for Sunday lunch and a couple of drinks and loved both. Roast was amazing and they had a cider I hadn't been able to find anywhere in years! Would definitely recommend.
g.

c.
Fantastic food and great staff. Claire and Rhys made us feel welcome and could not do enough for you. The Sunday lunch was absolutely amazing thanks to Chef`s Lou and Debbie
I. H.
Just been here for the Sunday beef roast. 10/10. What a delight. Plenty of meat and veg, a huge Yorkshire pud and all the trimmings. The red wine gravy is delicious. Plus 5 pigs in blankets for only an extra £1. What more could one want. I'll definitely be coming back!
L. C.
Good location on the outskirts of the city centre approx 5 mins on foot from here to the main shopping area. Food-wise I've eaten here a couple times; I opted for the mixed grill on my most recent visit which was very tasty, just the right amount of meat and all good quality cuts washed down with a Guiness. Spot on.
o. g.
Great place to go and eat and enjoy the sun. Would highly recommend.
C. C.
A quaint venue to spend a Saturday afternoon! Great atmosphere and so very accommodating, 3 of us and my pup enjoyed the food and drinks very much! Pup enjoyed his battered sausage! The only tiny niggle I have is that the nachos starter was quite pricey and tasteless! I would normally complain but the staff were all so lovely and so happy I didn’t want spoil an otherwise wonderful experience! Thanks for having us x
G. G.
Great pub with lovely friendly staff, will definitely visit again
N. C.
Excellent pub, all the staff are lovely and the food is great!
M. H. (.
Amazing tasty food with loads of veggie options, had the most amazing burger EVER! They were also hosting my favourite cider as a guest craft, I was very happy about that!! Totally coming here again!
a. p.
It's was ok, decent beer, nice and busy...
d. M.
Very busy but still serving on time and staff were so friendly
B. M.
I popped in the off chance for a quick pint, had a great welcome from I believe the landlord. We were served quickly by Ruth food followed shortly after, I had a burger my partner fish and chips both tasted great and good value for money. I will be popping in soon again
L. M.
Fantastic pub & lovely staff will definitely visit again x
M. L.
Only the second time I've visited this pub and not been disappointed, far from it. The ales were first class but the last visit we also ate and the food was spot on. Nice convivial atmosphere and great staff who were friendly attentive and professional without becoming the smarmy nuisance that some staff can be when angling for a tip.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and will visit again when in the area next week.
a. m.
Great food, reasonable priced, lovely staff, dog friendly.
M. K.
This is always a great pub. Staff are friendly and like to talk to you about the beer and cider offerings. They have a great range of Lilley's ciders and Derby's own Dancing Duck brewery beera which they encourage you to try.The quality of the food is also worth a mention.
m. c.
Just popped in for a quick pint, pleasant staff and dogs allowed in some areas.
l. s.
Great real ale pub and great Sunday dinners well worth a look just book 📚 n advance for food very popular on Sundays..
T. M.
Popped in for a drink with my 2 pups in tow, who got a bowl of water & bit of fuss. Lovely dog friendly pub.
J. F. (.
2nd visit and its a good pub. As an ale drinker they are limited and I'm not sure if it's a pub attached to a restaurant or the other way round. Nice staff nice people inside.
J. B.
We had a lovely tasty Sunday lunch here today, fab service, friendly atmosphere and dog friendly too. Nice walk from Darley Park, will definitely be back.
R. N.

N. K.
Good food and beer, friendly and helpful staff
W. T.
Absolutely fabulous visit. Everyone behind the bar was so friendly and the food was amazing. Thanks for the lovely welcome. :)
C. W.
Small place but has a good choice of beer and great burgers
M. B.
Clean pub welcoming staff. Not entirely wheelchair accessible but often old pubs cant offer this . No on site parking but plenty of on street parking with meters .
Lovely accommodating staff. Couldn't fault service or Lovely customers. X
w. g.
Second visit here, just as we expected from our last visit, excellent friendly staff, helpful courteous, fantastic food, great selection of beers, wish this pub was in my local village
Update, revisited this March 2022, excellent as I remember, Shout out to Barry, made sure all our needs were taken care of, added bonus of Live Sport as well, great work by all the staff

Fabulous. ....3 floors of artefacts & memorabilia. Everything is labelled, so you can understand, who, what & why. Art section too & large cafe. Friendly staff on all floors. Well worth a visit .
D. M.
First day of the new menu, the staff were attentive, friendly and professional. The food was very good, I had the steak and chips, absolutely lovely. Will definitely return to sample more of the menu, keep doing what you are doing guys 😀.....
N. W.
Little bit disappointed to be honest, it's nice enough but lacks something (I don't know what but it left me cold, I simply can't put my finger on the reason). The ale didn't help, very ordinary, it wasn't just me, someone else was moaning to the barman about the condition of the beer.
D. T.
We visited this pub on Saturday 18/09/21 it was a very busy, because of the football home match, noisy, bar service was a bit slow, as problems with staffing although the staff were very friendly, notice up to apologise and closing early. When ordering food I was told it would be 30 minutes which actually took about 45 minutes, I had the 5oz steak it was ok, peas like bullets and my wife’s fish/ chips mushy peas cold and more like a paste, in all not a pleasant dining experience, never to be tried again. ☹️
E. T. c.
Excellent choice of beers, friendly staff. good food.
N. A.
Visited the old silk mill yesterday with a couple of friends. We were greeted by a lovely host at the door who showed us to our table. Food and drinks were fantastic with a large choice. Staff were absolutely amazing and so friendly. 100% will be coming back again.
J. W.
Well worth a visit. especialy the automiton workshop. build an automiton.
huge no of exhibits squezed in could do with more galery space, or useing some of the empty spaces. coukd come more often if open mondays.
A. H.
Excellent service superb food had best burger and chips for ages.
Nothing was too much trouble and our waitress Claire was really friendly would definitely recommend this place to friends and family was great to be back out having a meal
S. M.
Ox Tail & Bone Marrow Pie: Generous portion served piping hot, washed down with a pint of Ay Up. Perfect on a rainy day. Lovely cosy interior with a welcoming atmosphere.
R. V.
Visited the pub today for Sunday roast, absolutely fantastic 10/10 would recommend to everybody. Food was amazing and staff were amazing. I will definitely be returning.
L. N.
Lovely food and amazing service from Hollie, 10/10
N. C.
Great selection of real ales food was very nice go on treat yourself
D. B.
Good pub with a great range of ale.
O. S. (.
Me and my mum had a meal here, as part of the eat out to help out scheme. We booked our table in advance and were advised to, as it can get busy. I had a burger, which was really nice. I will definitely come back, but hope to see healthier menu choices. The staff were friendly.
G. W.
Really good venue, staff members are all pleasant and helpful individuals, food is delicious alongside a good variety of drinks. Will definitely be visiting again :D
G. G.
Excellent pub, amazing gents toilets, very large artisan sausage rolls. Great outdoor potting shed. Several real ales on.
G. S.
Great atmosphere good choice of ales and cider. Must try the food as it has a good menu.
A. M.
Had a lovely meal at the Silk Mill, Garden was looking fabulous, served by Nathan who was very helpful. We had Fish and Chips and Burger, food was quick and tasted divine . Would definitely recommend.
f. b.
Really good for beer choices and a varied menu at reasonable prices, the staff were efficient, helpful and worked hard on a busy Sunday.
J. b.
Excellent experience from entering to leaving. A beautiful quirky pub, great staff and the burger was delicious. Definitely a return visit in the near future.
S. P.
Had a lovely meal their today, it's the kind of pub I like staff are very friendly, be calling in tomorrow afternoon when I've been swimming at Queens leisure centre
J. M.
Popped in this lunchtime for a drink and a bite to eat. What a gem of a place. Friendly staff, excellent food and drink. We'll certainly be back for more.
K. B.

L. R.
Very busy as rugby was on. Great atmosphere!
C. M.
Been here a few of times now and have always found the staff very friendly and efficient and food lovely. Just a nice place to go.
R. L.
Staff extremely welcoming and food good too
C. W.
Very good choice of ales...very pleasant visit
M. H.
Great meal and outstanding service.
I. P.
Excellent range of cask ales but by far the most expensive place we visited on a tour of the city centre.
S. H.
Great Derby Pub. Changed ownership apparently but still great.
X.
Went in late on a Wednesday night.
Nice selection of beers.
Friendly bar staff.
Will definitely be back.
I. G.
Great beers 🍻 and nice seating inside and outside. Sunday dinner is a must . With unlimited Yorkshire puddings.
S. M.
Fantastic Staff .Great beer garden and the burgers are the best I have tasted.
Beer is great too.
Highly recommended
S. R.
Excellent pub that I have drank in on and off for 9 years. Recent new ownership seem to be keeping the same atmosphere/decor which makes the pub so great. Loyalty card scheme is good and the cask ales on are also great but two criticisms -- it is very expensive (£4 for local ale!) and Bass still isn't being regularly served. Bass is a staple ale to the area and knowing it's not been on has put me off calling in once. Otherwise top marks.
H. G.
We went for a group meal/drinks upstairs. Good was excellent, all hot and no complaints with 10+ guests. There was a phone up there straight to the bar for beer delivery. Was a fantastic night.
L. M.
Went to this place recently had had a really lovely meal. The staff were really polite snd the service prompt. Highly recommend it!
D. A.
Really good environment. Came in for one of the euro games. Staff were friendly drinks cane out quick. Will be coming again soon.
S. C.
What a great pub! Nice atmosphere with equally great food. I recommend sitting in the beer garden. The staff was super polite and friendly, and the food came quite quickly too.
B. B.
Visited this pub for the first time today, the atmosphere, the ale, the staff all 5*
S. H.
A great place to visit. A good selection of real ales and lagers. Nice outdoor area too. The team are great too.
P. B.
Superb pub. A wide range of mostly local ales, enough of a selection to please even the most fussy beer drinker! The decor is impressive, a very nice mix of old style pub with a slightly modern twist. The gents toilets are a particularly amusing example of the charm they have added to this old ale house. We were unable to sample the food when we visited, but have been told by locals that it is top notch! Well worth a visit if you find yourself in Derby.
M. H.
Great food and great atmosphere
k. s.
Very disappointed that the new limited menu during this pandemic didn't contain a few more healthy options.
Asked if I could swap chips for a salad and was declined, staff very polite and efficient .
My husband was very happy with his burger.
E. H.
Fast, Friendly service, food was cooked perfect and with a short wait and wide selection of alcohol and beers as well as plenty for kids to drink.
R. E.
Good selection of beer and cider. There is a really relaxed atmosphere in this place , the decor is very classy but the prices do not reflect on this , we found this one of the less expensive bars in the area and a hell of a lot better than most of them. Everything is spotless including the toilets. Overall a very nice place to visit.
A. S. (.
Great well run museum that should charge to go in. After paying £12 to get in Nottingham Castle to be disappointed after all the money spent on that, the Silk Mill is fantastic.
C. G.
Very friendly place ,only in there for 5 minutes and it was like I was an old friend .
The wife and I both had fish and chips in the garden and we had a fab experience..
Looking forward to going again 👌
T. A.
The place is beautifully clean and the staff are polite and attentive.
It's a CAMRA pub so sells real ales.
I had a pint of cider I've never heard of before. It cost £4.60!! but it wasn't very nice.
The menu is pricey, eg. £12 for fish and chips, but there's a lunchtime menu where £5 is about average for omelettes, jacket spuds etc.
I wouldn't go in again, not my cup of tea.
S. R.
Very nice pub. Excellent ale selection. Excellent service. Try an ale before you buy.
Nice decor.
I haven't eaten here but my wife and I choose the silk mill for a pint or two when in the City.
G. k.
Fabulous place, staff were great. Food deserves the proverbial chefs kiss. Cider was next level. Sorry Barry, I’ll be back!
J.
Lovely pub very friendly staff and great prices will visit again.
D. C.
My partner ,son and two grandsons plus myself had a sunday roast at the silk mill last sunday ,booked in advance ,disappointed there was only one choice , roast beef which wasnt as tender as expected by previous reviews, unless the knives were blunt ! The rest of the meal was really good fresh veg, nice yorkshires&tasty gravy, enjoyed the couple of hours, with friendly obliging staff ,just let down by the beef being the only choice on the day .
S. R.
What a great looking pub! Popped in whilst passing and had a cracking burger in their beer garden. Recommend!
A. P.
Food was lovely patio area and outside dinning is pretty staff we're attentive and helpful when ordering food (I'm not that I.T savy).
L. S.
Seating limited due to restaurant area, on a busy drinking night this seems a little silly as you don't really want to use the beer garden in the winter / spring months and swaths of the restaurant seating area is free.
Their beer selection is large but the beers can be very hit and miss. More so than a year ago for sure.
Always a few ciders on so that's nice.
B. B.
A bit slow on service (may of been staff levels) and seemed to make a bit of fun out of my pronunciation of one of the beers, but I don't really mind a laugh it was a little awkward though as a first time visitor.
However apart from that it was a relaxed place, and most importantly the ales were really well kept and tasted fresh. (The head on the oatmeal stout was great and stuck to the glass all the way down which shows it was kept very well)
Only bad note is there were alot of kids seemingly uncontrolled making a lot of noise but that does happen everywhere, was just a little off-putting trying to enjoy your pint though.
However I'd still aim to go back if I were in the area though.
P. P.
Amazing service food drinks and garden fab team Claire Danny we are looking forward to our next visit
B. E.
Lovely steak with a very nice salad. Got extra salad as had no chips Asked for a side of olive oil which was included with no fuss. Great selection of drinks and friendly, helpful staff.
D. S.
Great traditional pub close to Derby City Centre. Good food, extensive choice of drinks and well worth a visit.
P. R.
Nice cozy, historic landmark pub, interesting decor inside and out (great artwork!!)... Good selection of beers, really nice food (recommend the onion rings they we're delicious!!) friendly welcoming and helpful staff... will definitely return and recommend
D.
One of the best pubs in Derby. Great selection of cask ales from local breweries and lovely food. Also has a beer garden.
S. H.
Very friendly staff who do everything they can to make sure you have a safe and comfortable visit. Had all drinks in stock but 1. Will definitely go back.
C. W.
Great small pub with great selection of ales. The cider selection when weather was hot was also a hit.
Food looked decent but not tried it myself
N. R.
Glad to see the pub is flourishing under new ownership. Good setting nice atmosphere. If you look back in time it was originally a Tennants house . Brewery Duke street Glasgow.
A. M.
Menu is reduced and starkly poorer quality than before the management change.
A great shame as the food was standout previously.
Staff are very friendly and the beer is still good but I can't recommend it for eating out sadly.
R.
Went around the Christmas holidays '18, a handful of decent beers and cider on tap. Whilst I didn't order food, my friends who did (all got burgers) were very satisfied, despite the wait. Another friend was unhappy with her G&T (they had ran out of ice, and tonic was not kept cool in fact of that). The staff were all very friendly even though they were rushed off their feet, and the décor was very quirky and pleasant.
G. H.
Great pub, good atmosphere, caters alot for the real ale drinkers so gets a thumbs up from me. It's clean and tidy with a decent beer garden.
V. w.
Lovely food and lovely barmaid
F. B.
Absolutely love this little gem in Derby. Me and my boyfriend went here on a random Monday, my partner was the one to suggest it after seeing really good reviews about the place. And it lived up to it. Very friendly staff especially a guy who we didn't catch the name of unfortunately, he has curly hair and glasses. The atmosphere is so cosy and the best part is that you don't feel like you're in Derby anymore.
We've been twice and the food has not let us down. Great fish and chips, tasty filling burgers and a neat side salad with nice dressing for once. Would recommend this place any day!
M. S.
Good selection of Real Ales
S. D.
Nice place and good staff, young lady staff member helped us store our bikes in a secure place while we sat and had a couple of drinks on there outside patio. Will definitely go again. Super, many thanks.
G. N.
Food is good. Can be pricey but you get what you pay for in my opinion. Lot of cask beer on, buts it's all so old beer styles and run of mill breweries. Plus no craft beer. But it's owned by same people as the Exeter who have a rotating line. So ??? More modern beer please!
w. t.
Nice stop for drinks n dine or lunch. Food is not bad as well as a variety of drinks. Staff is cool n active for quick service. Nice room for food. Beer garden is lovely. Had great time there
A. C.
A great place with prompt service as well as kind and helpful staff. Food is amazing and I will be back.
S. B.
Nice pub with good beers, friendly staff.
A. H.
Called in for a couple of glasses of wine mine was a Shirz the wife had Chardonnay both very nice. Decided to come back and have something to eat. Leave the car at home take the bus and fill our boots. We will return. Highly recommended
N. B.
You can't complain about the food as ever its amazing. The greenfly infestation on the other hand under the roof Lantern was particularly unpleasant. We mentioned it and were told we could move if WE wanted. The staff didn't seem surprised. Sadly we returned a month later and they still had the problem.
S. H.
Had a brilliant night had a couple of drinks with friends. Very friendly staff.
M. E.
Good selection of beers, food is very very good. Nice beer garden and the place has a great ambiance with its open log fire and old school decorations, definitely a place to check out when in Derby townfor local and visitors alike.
S. M.
Fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff and a lovely place to relax
F. G.
Great ales, food and staff. Still the best place in Derby
R. F.
Food was top quality so compliments to the chef. Service was friendly and staff made you feel right at home, allowing you to have testers of ales, of which there was a good range. My son in who is ten was allowed in with welcoming arms allowing him to try the different icecreams such as parsinp and brown butter. Will definatley be visiting again.
S. R.
Great little place! Good choice of ale and cider
D. H.
Very nice pub
T. S.
Exquisite food and selection of beer. I had the steak with a peppercorn sauce - a great sauce and cooked to perfection. For pudding, I recommend the sticky toffee pudding or the Bakewell tart, both exceptional choices.
P. S.
Excellent service Excellent food what more can I say except I'll be going back again.
S. G.
Lack of clarity on the lunch time deals menu caused angst at our lunch, if you want the deal be careful what you order. Food was ok, but overpriced as it mine wasn't included on the specials
E. H.
Bit more up market, but still relaxed. A safe bet if you're wanting to impress, but not so much on the student friendly prices. Friendly and warm staff, creative decor, nice cider and probably nice ales (or at least mates say so) and very nice food, but again, not student prices.
D. B.
Very nice ...made us very welcome

A regular haunt for me when I'm in Derby. Great selection of beer and the food is really tasty, generous and good value for money. This can make it busy, so if you really want to make you get a table as soon as you walk in then book in advance otherwise drink some beer and grab a table when one comes free.
G. B.
Usually a great ale selection, all well kept. There's the main bar area, a snug room, the restaurant room and a good patio area outside. Food is really good if a bit pricy, but every time I've ordered there have been problems with the order.
C. b.
Excellent pub and very friendly staff, would highly recommend.
P.
Great pub but seems to be heading more towards food then beer. Great decor and good selection of beer.sunday roasts are fab
C. B.
A great little pub with a beer garden, meeting room and also serves good pub food, once the restrictions are lifted this great little pub will once again be at the heart of Derby's city centre .
G. P.
Exceptionally friendly staff and service. Excellent food, especially the burgers. Good selection of ales. Warm and welcoming pub. Highly recommend.
M. W.
A really nice place to go to.
A. R.
Always a great visit here, Great Food, Great Beer, always a warm welcome
G. K.
Dropped by for what I thought would be a quiet pint after work last Friday. I couldn’t fault the beer but the bar area was incredibly rowdy and a bit intimidating so I’m not sure I’ll be returning at that time of day again.
A. P.
Great pub. Loads of choice of ales and decent food too
S. C.
Awesome staff. Relaxing atmosphere. Great food. 😊
H. S.
Really can't fault the place at all - food is great, staff are friendly and welcoming, as is the ambience in general. Open fire is a bonus :-) Street parking is limited to two hours with no return within two hours, but there are other car parks in the area within a five minute walk.
B. E.
Nice, modern pub. Good selection of beers in a nice relaxed atmosphere.
The food is also excellent as is the beer garden during the summer, it's a real sun trap.
m.
Had a meal here today and it was wonderful. My other half had a veg pie, which was massive and the sides were a good size too. I went for the vegetable plater which was boss.
D. N.
Nice place, delicious beer and delightful company 😄
R. D.
Great evening sitting on the terrace having a beer with friends. Great atmosphere. Choice of beers, didn't try any food but I will definitely return.
T. O.
Nice pub, good selection of drinks. Great place to meet. Staff are friendly, and good selection of bar food. Can get busy in the evening.
I. B.
We the Lazy Alligator Jazz Band were providing the entertainment. The staff were great and made for an enjoyable experience. A good venue anytime
M. J. -. C.
Nice pub, good ale, dog friendly.
B. P.
great range of beers and good food cooked as you like
m. h.
Cosy and friendly great food starter but mains were a bit boring. My burger was bland with no seasoning. God's selection of beer
j. c.
Beautiful Sunday roast with unlimited Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Good offer but they are so huge I could only eat one!
G. “. S.
Nice selection of beers... But no more pork pies.. Boo
N. H.
Not the best choice of beers at the moment. Our last visit was much better.
M. H.
Great food for Sunday lunch to go with an excellent range of beers. Good service with reasonable food prices for good quality food. What a good job has been been made of revamping the Silk Mill.....great achievement
H. B.
Had a fantastic meal off the new and improved menu. Fantastic choice
Beautiful food
So cosy and staff couldn’t be more helpful
Looking forward to becoming a regular
L. C.
Awesome !!.
Great friendly knowegeable service.
Always police and courteous.
Prompt and attentive.
Great a la carte menu.
Cooked to perfection.
Chris is certainly a credit to the pub.
Thank you .
See you very soon...
Lisa and Kev.
L. H.
Good pub food, reasonably priced. Beer selection OK, though more highly priced than expected based on food prices. Interesting decor, maybe not to everyone's taste, but at least not boring.
N. W.
Always a great atmosphere, and a good selection of lagers, cider, and ales. Finally got around to trying the food, should not have left it so long... certainly recommended!
J. B.
Good social distancing rules. Very clean. Had the best vegan burger I have ever tasted.
A.
Great venue, lovely staff, good range of beers
T. B.
Enjoyable meal in the garden.
Staff very friendly and helpful
T. W.
It's now my local . Loads of fresh ales to try and ciders as well. Had the food and it's excellent freshly made and really tasty . It's not weather spoons just a proper old school pub doing what it does good
J. P.
A great selection of drinks and the food looks great. A great place to catch up with friends and the perfect place in the summer yo sit outside and beat the heat of a hot evening.
M. F.
Lovely little pub. Always got a good selection on. Was slightly disappointed lily's mango cider not on anymore though!!
S. B.
Friendly and safe! Good range of proper beers and ciders too...
R. “.
Perfect for lunch, sit outside to watch and listen to the Peregrine Falcons on the Cathedral (subject to time of the year) you can then connect to the Derby City Council Peregrine webcam and franticly wave to yourself!
The £7 lunch and street food menu is great. The Lamb doner naan is a real winner! wash it down with a local pint of Dancing Duck Brewery beer - perfect.
T. C.
Good choice of beer. Staff very efficient. Good area for those who wish to eat. Will visit again
A. S.
Nice beers. Food looked and smelled good.
T. M.
Staff were friendly and the food was nice but I think the food is overpriced. If you go at the weekend the other customers in the bar are noisy and it can be hard to hold a conversation in the restaurant area.
S. H.
Great little pub for Sunday evening meal. Live music, good food and friendly staff. Recommended.
M. D.
Real ale pub with large selection so no hesitation giving it 5 stars. Good atmosphere as well. Recomended
A. H.
Good food, good beer, good staff. What more do you need👍
A.
Lovely, bright pub with great staff, great food, and a nice beer garden. Very well managed for covid too.
R. M.
This place has a sun trap for the summer, decent pints for whatever whether and it has good pies on the menu. The place is one of my favourite pubs when visiting derby!
M. G.
Great pub and good atmosphere
J. W.
Super friendly little place. Had the Port Isaac which was hake wrapped in bacon with curried potatoes and mussels and spinach. Food was great and portions generous.
C. M.
Food was absolutely delicious, however the service was a bit strange. Not bad, just very awkward and put us on edge a bit.
H. A.
One of the best pubs to have something to eat in Derby, with kind staff. Is quite spacious and a terrace is available too.
C. W.
Always our first pub of choice. Great beer and service. Lovely surroundings.
D. D.
Tasty food and friendly staff
A. C.
Great staff. Covid measures in place. Fantastic fish and chips! Staff made the night. Great service!
w. m.
Great pub lovely atmosphere and good selection of beers
The large sausage rolls and food at the weekends are also really good
L. N.
Just went for a quick drink this time but the menu is good and the food well cooked and tasty. Good atmosphere.
M. W.
Nice bar that does a selection of real ales and ciders with premium brands of lager to food is very good an atmosphere is more for the mid to older generation
S. G.
Very nice. Good beers, nice atmosphere. Can't comment about the food, not tried it. Like it.
R. H.
Great day out watching England staff excellent and warm and friendly recommend to everybody
G.
Love this place as a pub then had food the other week and it got even better, generous servings and reasonable prices everyone's plate looked delicious definitely going back to dine!
L. D.
Great beer...the name suggest a great pub but it's more of a restaurant and just like its sister 'pub' the Exeter makes ale and cider drinkers a little sidelined to the diners
P. J.
Homely place with some nice beers, log fire on to keep you warm. I didn't try the food but will visit again to try it.
B. D.
Highly reccomeded for a roast on a Sunday and good for a pint

Not bad. Friendly staff. Reasonable pint of American IPA. Great terrace. Staff could of taken used plates from tables outside.
R. E.
Good selection of beers. Menu looked ok if a bit pricey.

j. h.
Best beer in town
R. D.
Good pub, friendly staff, reasonable prices. Have visited several times and will go again.
L. B.
By the time I got to this pub I was mostly bored. Why are most of the 'good pubs' in Derby an homogeneous mass of sameness ? Quantity does not mean quality.
j. w.
This is a lovely pub and the food would have received 5 stars if it was served on a plate rather than a wooden fish box.
W. B.
Nice beer, average food.
K. M.
Traditional pub with good selection of beers. Didn't try the food.
S. T.

Great restaurant and bar. Excellent cask ale selection.
S. N.
It's a shame that people stand drinking at the bar, making it difficult for others to get a drink. Some more areas for drinkers to stand with a drink would help
