Reviews of The Dragon

Lovely pub by the canal/river. Visited for breakfast meeting. Food was very tasty and well presented and service was excellent. Trade seemed quite buoyant for a cold January day. Would like to visit again in the summer and watch the boats and world go by.

🤔 what a mixed bag of an experience, this was "D" in our alphadate nights and let's just say that it didn't live up to expectations. We were seated next to a busy path to the kitchen and another dining room, so the human traffic volume was immense and off-putting, leading to no privacy for a chat. The menu was expensive so we were expecting top quality but sadly the food didn't live up to the price, but was made up with quantity, leaving us to full to order desert. The staff were polite and on point, we were never waiting long for anything and nothing was a problem (apart from the chips which were like leather). All in all not a bad experience as the place was lovely and clean with great decor, but we won't be rushing back. Hope you found this helpful and pop me a thumbs up 👍 thank you

The best Sunday roast we have had in a long time beef superb and the loin of pork, good servings and lovely fresh huge yorkers, service was good for mains but we had to ask and chase
several times for our ordered desserts, but when they did arrive were excellent, will certainly be going again.
P. H.
Not a good, not a bad experience.
The place next to the canal was really busy today, as Summer had arrived
They ran out of most of beers on the menu, and by the time I ordered they ran out of more so I was served a cheaper brew and pointed out to them and they refunded promptly.
The food was a bit pricey, typical gastropub, chicken burger was quite thin when biting into it, a thumb full of coleslaw and "skin on" thin fries, for £15 quid
Service was good, with posh sauces and nice views
c. b.
Food was pretty good and staff friendly, but service was very slow due to understaffing. A little pricey for what it was, but pleasant surroundings and situated along a canal tow path xxx
C. H.
Absolutely gorgeous food and impeccable service. One of our favourite places to eat. Food is always beautifully presented and the staff can never do enough to help. A must visit - just be sure to book as it is incredibly popular!
J. A.
Lovely pub catering for a high class of client, very nice beer garden overlooking the canal, very nice food and a wonderful interior decor to set the tone for a relaxed enjoyable visit.

We had our Christmas Dinner in a pod outside at the Dragon and it was fabulous. Really cosy and comfortable. We were waited on and we didn't have to wait long for our meal. It was delicious. We had Turkey Roulade and I had Christmas pud with a toffee sauce ...yummy. my hubby had cheesecake, which was good too.
K. B.
Was very popular when we visited, so the atmosphere was good. Food and drinks arrived quickly and didn't feel rushed at all after we had eaten. Well priced menu and good choice if options. Good quality of food and felt like a family atmosphere with the staff when we left.
One thing to note is that the car park isn't too big especially when busy - but there is some other parking next door for the park which was free.

Had an amazing brunch here in one of the beautifully decorated outside domes for a friends baby shower! The manager was so friendly & accommodating and couldn’t do enough for us which was really appreciated. Lovely big breakfasts, great service and an overall brill morning! Thank you, will definitely be back!
L. D.
Amazing service, lovely pub and good food. By the canal with gorgeous views. Didn't have an allergens menu when I requested one. They where happy to talk me through the allergens on request of each meal but it would have been nice to view what was available to me rather than having to ask them to check each individual item with the kitchen. However happily catered to my multiple intolerances.

Been here a couple of times before, but we booked the special 4 course valentine meal recently. The food on the night was absolutely superb and beautifully presented, and well worth the price for the two of us. Honestly very impressed as we were expecting the normal style of menu.
Can get busy and noisy as its quite large, and thats the only reason for marking it a star down. We asked to move into the conservatory, which had a much more intimate feel for the evening.

I’ve enjoyed a really lovely if belated thanks to Covid, Mothers day treat today courtesy of my daughters and toddler grandson. I would like to express our thanks to your attentive and courteous staff. Food was absolutely delicious, lovely and hot served with plenty of perfectly cooked vegetables (many places do not get this right!) We will definitely return and pass on our recommendations to friends and family.

Set in a lovely semi-rural village with delightful canal path walks just off their beer garden, the Dragon is a perfect place to visit whether you are looking to take advantage of their fine selection of wines / beers, or wanting to experience a fine hearty meal. Dogs are welcome too which adds to the friendly atmosphere.
The food is great - I’ve been several times to try their basic menus and various specials such as the Sunday Lunch. I’ve never been left wanting more, nor have I ever had reason to complain. The choice and quality are wonderful. The price point is reasonable too - on average you’re probably looking at £25 each for a decent meal and a drink.
Definitely worth dropping in. Enjoy!

Booked a bubble out in the garden, it was nice and quite and we had a nice meal even though two meals came a good 5 minutes before the other two. But ordering drinks was a problem, it took at least 10 to 15 minutes every time we ordered. With half an hour before the taxi came we ordered one last round, after over 10 minutes I had to go to see where our drinks were. When they came we only had 10 minutes to drink them, plus the coffee they bought was the wrong kind. So would recommend a intercom or phone put in the Bubble so we can order drinks or anything extra.
R. M.
My wife and I took our daughter here for a birthday lunch. The place itself is lovely, and is situated on the bank of the local canal. Sadly, our visit was let down by an over-cooked rump steak, and an over-cooked chicken breast. The fish (and chips) meal was ok. In my opinion the meals were also a little over-priced for the portion sizes served up.
J. P.
Haven't been to the Dragon since before COVID so over two years but went today and what fabulous alterations have taken place. It's such a friendly atmosphere and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Glad we rediscovered it again will certainly visit for a meal as the menu looked really inviting.

We came here for breakfast on Easter Saturday morning as a big party to celebrate a graduation. The service was incredible, very attentive and polite. Food and drinks came quickly and the waitresses kept coming to check if we needed anything and to top up drinks. The breakfast was delicious, everyone’s was hot despite a large range of dishes being ordered. Couldn’t fault this place at all, would definitely return.
O. P.
Excellently cooked breakfast, well done chef. I would suggest staff lock their mobiles away on arrival at work, so that when they have a few minutes, they check on their customers & not their social media. We would have liked more drinks mid meal, perhaps we should have requested them via whatsapp?

Booked a lunchtime meal whilst staying at a lodge in Swadlincote. We were given a friendly welcome. We ordered lamb shanks, gammon, a burger and chicken nuggets for our grandchild. The food was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend a visit when in the area.
K. P.
Lovely place and even better food! Staff were really polite, service was quick. The outside area is relaxing and clean, did help that we had beautiful weather the day we visited. Will definitely be going again and will recommend to others.

Excellent night again down at the dragon we've been a few times and everytime has been fantastic. The food was excellent, the staff was helpful and the management coming round to check if everything's OK. The special starter is pictured and it was fantastic can't remember the name of it but it really needs to go on the menu if it was a one off thing extra tasty... 😋 thank you for an amazing time guys and we hope to see you soon 😊
A. B.
We ordered from the set lunch menu.
Our starters of mushrooms on toast was average, the bread was quite dry.
Main courses were the chicken and asparagus and the steak pie. They were both gorgeous.
The dessert was pear crumble. This was good but nothing special.
J. S. J.
Came here for Brunch and decided to try the vegan full english breakfast. It was made really well and it tasted so good - everything was on point! The atmosphere and seating area was really nice too and the staff were really friendly. Had a lovely experience and will attend again in the future!
A.
Lovely food, nice atmosphere. Was busy but still good service, very friendly staff and value for money! Definitely will be back.
J. H.
The food and service is really good here. They have a big selection of beers on tap too. The outdoor domes are decorated nicely and really cosy being separate from the rest of the outdoor seating
K. S.
Fabulous contemporary food menu, and a relaxed stylish interior. Nice outdoor area too, with bookable outdoor seating pods. Will definitely return and try the outdoor seating areas, especially given the proximity yo the canalside.
J. G.

The staff are lovely can’t do enough for you our waiter was Dan he was fantastic as are all the staff, we had Sunday lunch it was absolutely delicious the portions are very generous we had lots of vegetables to share and worth every penny. Have booked dome dining twice and not been disappointed. Every time I have called, the lady on the phone has been more than helpful. The staff are friendly and always happy to help. The food is also very nice. They cater for vegans which is great. I would highly recommend the dragon.
A. B.
Nice restaurant located by the canal. We served breakfast which was delicious.
M. S.
Loved this.place friendly staff beautiful food.

Cos the party of us were 10 people & tanle booked for 18.00 the service was vere prompt. I had steak but came with very weak pepper sauce, one cherry tomato cut in half mamouth onion rings bit of lettuce. What happened to mushrooms?, grilled toms?. Took a while to get desserts brought to us.even then we were two short. Don't think they can cope with the larger party.will tru again yo see some improvements.
O.
Went for breakfast at a weekend, Saturday morning, not that busy and the service was great. Generous portions which is nice as some places really cut down on the bacon/sausages etc. Will be going again
R.
Good with a great selection of beers. Team was attentive. Food was pretty average for the price.
B. B.
Very nice, popped in very early to get a cup of tea while waited on mot over road ,lovely lady served us my pal had a sausage sandwich he said it was excellent, lovely and clean 😀😃😃

I really like this pub and it's settings! Good is generally good here although was slightly disappointed with the burger I had this time as I found it slightly dry! That being said it's still very much worth a visit!
C. C.
The new menu is even yummer than the previous one! The staff is great, very friendly and happy to help. I celebrate my sister's birthday and the dinner and location was spot on! Great night
J. E.
Great service Jess our waitress was brilliant, drinks came out quick and the food was amazing. Lovely atmosphere inside the pub. Would definitely go there again
G. P.
Very nice pub, it's sectioned inside and out so you'll be very hard pushed not to find an area that's to your liking. The parking is a little awkward but it's manageable. The food was excellent, we had Sunday lunch and it was very nice!
P. W.
Visited for festive Christmas Sunday lunch which was exceptional. Food perfectly cooked and service excellent from a very friendly but unobtrusive team.
H. R.
Staff extremely friendly and helpful even during emergency relocation of table due to housekeeping emergency. Service was excellent, really prompt despite being very. busy. Can recommend 3 small plates from menu which were excellent in quality and very generous. Other guest chose very generous gluten free fish and chips. On previous lunchtime visit had best and generous roast beef sandwich. Only minor comment is very limited gf items on menu. Thoroughly recommend.
I. B.
Lovely atmosphere, good food and wine. Ridiculous price for dessert!! Recommended but cannot comment on dessert as we didn't have one.
A. S.
Always busy even early afternoon week days but friendly staff and great food make this place a favourite. Loving the vegan and veggie options on the menu now! The loaded sweet potato dishes are great for a filling lunch. 👍
N. B.
Visited for first time today. Was lovely. Very tasty burger & steaks and staff all really smiley & helpful. We will be back. Thank you!

Very nice meal

We live locally so know The Dragon well. Haven't eaten there recently but went in for a meal last night. It was just simply superb! Service was excellent; my choices - the Parsnip and Fennel Risotto (had it without the optional add-ins) was just delicious and the Yoghut and Mango Panna Cotta with honeycomb was equally wonderful. A great meal and thoroughly enjoyed.
J. B.

Nice place, service was good but even though it was a warm sunny day we were all freezing due to the door to the beer garden being wedged open, the cold draught blowing through was awful, the staff closed the door when we asked them but with people coming in and out all the time it didn't make it much better, the table just shouldn't have been in that position, as we were a party of 7 there wasn't anywhere else to sit.
R. D.
A hidden gem - its all the things you would want from a pub and a restaurant - great location - great staff - warm and welcoming atmosphere - great selection of ales not forgetting the food which was perfect in every way - don't doubt go and scout it out - we travelled especially from Birmingham - and glad that we did so
J. M.
Asked for a cheese sandwich and got the works. My husband asked for a beef one...
Brilliant and lovely staff
D. F.
Incredible food. Well worth a visit. Attentive staff.
P. B.
Great place, but very busy which is natural considering it's location. Great selection of beers.
H. C.
Lovely location, lovely staff, overpriced and pretentious other wise, not value for money, it seems people go there to spend as much money in front of each other in a competion and the pub has cottoned onto this and the portions have got smaller as the cost has increased, lots of flesh, botox, man buns, small pedigree dogs (like the food portions) and lip fillers on show, but again lovely probably poorly paid staff and the setting again awesome.
L. G.
Really tasty meal and great service form yeh staff for large family gathering. Thoroughly recommend.
A. S.
Not been here for a few years. Excellent modern fresh decor. Lovely quality food.
D. B.
Great location, on a good day sitting outside by the river! The food was very tasty and well presented!
L. V.
Came to the Dragon as a walk I on a Friday lunchtime and they served us no problem. The food, drinks and service were impeccable. This was our first time at the Dragon and we'll definitely be back.
C. L.
Lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great food, though the gammon was a bit too salty for my taste, still good and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The green apple pannacota was delicious.
C. H.
Fabulous find for lunch whilst visiting the area on our staycation. Nice food, friendly staff, great location. Dogs loved it too in their shady corner.
E.
Food is good , decent portion sizes and well cooked, service Abit hit n miss but on the whole very good
I. P.
Great selection of draught and keg beers, also extensive gin and spirit selection, good food in pleasant surroundings.
S. B.
Nice pub, lovely food, great location
d. L.
Really lovely place. Food is good, we had two small plates as starters - they weren’t amazing but okay. Our mains were really good. My husband had Carbonara with chicken and I had the prawn poke bowl, really big portions, a bit too much for lunch.
The staff are so friendly and welcoming!
K. M.
Nice pub in Willington with great service and wonderful food.

Very nice canal side gastro pub
Service can be slow and although ordering via their app, orders take upto 30 mins and i heard other customers saying food orders were lost and had to re order
K. K.
Very nice pub. The food here is great the location is nice the staff are very friendly. The only downside is the service is VERY slow. Doesn't matter if you order food or drinks expect a wait.
If the service speed was sped up an easy 4.5
T.
Amazing food in beautiful surroundings in a village by the canal. We had a family meal in the outside covered area and it was very chilled and also quite warm into the evening. The pork belly starter was absolutely fantastic - will come back just for that!
M. P.
We visited the Dragon for the first time for Sunday Lunch. I think this is probably the worse time to judge a pub by, as it is their busiest and may not be representative of what they can offer. The food was excellent, and the staff friendly and professional. The pub was crowded and noisy, and the service was lacking at times (not bad during the meal but struggled to get someone's attention for the bill, and then they never returned with the card machine so ended up paying at the bar on the way out. They had a saxophone player which was a nice touch, but misconceived. The pub was already very noisy due to the table occupancy, and the saxophone just added to the chaos and killed conversation. I would like to go on a weekday evening and try something off the menu as we liked the pub, the setting, the staff and the food. I do not feel we sampled it at it's best.
L. S.
Good ale and food ,beside the canal loads outdoor seating
J. B.
Nice food. Lovely staff. Very noisy.
J. W.
I brought a corporate group of clients here and i was not let down. The food was great and the service was outstanding. They couldn't do with with us, and always with a smile.
Highly recommended
D. A.
Lovely friendly place.food is lovely cannot fault it.thankyou for a lovely evening 😊
G. S.
Lovely surroundings, Great food and service, with friendly staff. No complaints at all.
T. L.
Nice pub and great location. A really good menu and the addition of the App to review the menu, book a table, announce arrival and order food is a great feature.
Service was a bit slow on the day I visited but they were having some problems with their IT.
A really nice outside space for the summer.
A. T.
Lovely friendly local and good food
C. C.
Beautiful food and environment, good drink selection with a well chosen wine list. Highly recommended
S. W.
Nice atmosphere good food and drinks just a little on the expensive side
D.
Visited for lunch recently, the decor is lovely, food was good, service was terrible. Waited ages to order, orders when they arrived were wrong, had to ask repeatedly for drinks, plates and glasses were passed down the table rather than directly to the right person. We even had to ask for the dishes to be cleared and one staff member was quite rude when asked! More training needed for the staff.
J. L.
Great service and so easy to order. Can't wait to go again.
D. W.
Been here twice now just for drinks. Lovely old English pub, great beer, great service 👍
J. M.
We went for breakfast and sat outside in the covered area. The seating was so comfortable. The food was excellent as was the service. Only a small moan, the staff were a little too enthusiastic to ask if we had finished, the first time some of us still had knives and forks in our hands. This made us feel a bit rushed to leave. Like I say only a small moan and will definitely be back.
a. h.
Very small amount of food for the price, which was very good, a few more vegetables would have been good.
C. O.
Great pub, would highly recommend, food is excellent and service was quick and staff polite and friendly
D. B.
Visited today for a family of four meal. It was easy to book online and place orders. There was a good atmosphere and staff were very welcoming and friendly. Good prices and food was lovely. Generous but not overwhelming portions made it thoroughly enjoyable. There was a good selection of food and drink. Overall a great experience and will definitely look to visit again
J. H.
The food was great, and our waitress was friendly but they were so busy that things got missed. We asked for water that never came and my husband asked for his blue cheese sauce 3 times. And the cutlery was miles behind the (cooling) food. They definitely needed more staff on.
R. A.
Great pub to go with friends and family both indoor and out. A wide selection of drinks on offer and food always top notch. Removed a star as it would be nice to have access to wifi as although the app is good, I always struggle with signal when ordering
F. Z.
Lovely pub
Great location
Good food
Service tad slow
G. T.
Excellent customer service with beautiful views of the canal. A little pricey for the food and drinks but that is to be set aside by the investment this company has clearly made in the ambience of the location. It would be good if it was made more clear where vaping and or smoking was or was not allowed outdoors.
D. B.
Had a lovely birthday treat lunch with my daughters. Had plenty of time to sit at the table & nothing was rushed. Was surprised at how many people were there. The car park was full & it was a Monday lunch time. All the app ordering seemed such a faff especially on my old phone. Much prefer a proper menu. Even a disposable printed paper one. I did not know where we were going otherwise would have looked on line before going.
J.
We had lunch here on the afternoon of 21 April. The outdoor setting was nice as always, but the food was not of the standard you'd normally expect at the Dragon (7/10), and the service felt a bit rushed to be honest. Plenty of staff moving around to take orders etc but overheard them berating one of their colleagues, which is unacceptable behaviour, especially within earshot of their customers! I know this is a very popular restaurant/pub but I think there are certain aspects that definitely need addressing.
L. S.
Nice pub, called for a drink when we were having a walk along the canal. Staff were very helpful. Decided to book for Sunday lunch but oh dear, the veg was nice but who serves stuffing with roast beef? And I can make better Yorkshire puddings myself. Also the beef was very stringy, my partner said it had similarities to an old string vest. Not the best we've eaten and very pricey. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying for decent food but you'd expect a better cut of beef! Disappointing. The key lime pie was nice though.
W. W.
Sunday lunch...excellent service...well done ladies...delicious lunch and lots of it..a lovely place.look forward to next visit x😎🦋
D. T.
Enjoyed a superb Sunday roast at the Dragon today. The food quality was exceptional together with excellent service from the very attentive staff. I highly recommend the Dragon and will definitely be eating there again soon.
A. S.
We hosted a ladies event in the Conservatory on Friday, 19th. The grazing platters, venue and entertainment organised by The Dragon (The Boss) was excellent and we have received some great feedback from the 30 guests. I would like to personally thank Graham and Jacob, who's attention to detail was outstanding. Jacob was brilliant and really made up feel at home and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you.
D. R.
Amazing service, food and place. Wanted to come here for ages and it didn't disappoint. Will be returning
V. H.
It's not too bad but very expensive for a bland meal
R. H.
Beautiful location, set in front of a canal.
The building itself is tastefully decorated and they have quite a large outside area.
The food menu is not extensive, but what is available is well made and locally sourced.
A. S.
Fantastic breakfasts all round. Very friendly staff, great atmosphere. That said, the girls poached eggs were over cooked and cooked in far too much vinegar. Will definitely book again though.
R. T.
An excellent dog friendly pub on the canal. Perfect walk from Mercia marina and back. The Atmosphere is relaxing, and is one of the only pubs we know our dog will settle every time for the whole time. The food is also well presented and tasty.
S.
Welcoming professional staff working under difficult conditions but you can feel the smiles behind their masks. Sufficient car parking. The place felt very clean. Good service, good food what else could you want? Oh yeah they've got great beers too. Some excellent local brews including some of their own. Had the fish and chips good portion the fish was big! All happy with our meals and the selection of beers is well worth trying/working your way through. Definitely worth a visit but do book because I didn't see any empty socially distanced tables on our visit.
H.
A really nice place, I recommend it. We went on a busy day though so service was quite slow and I did get given the wrong meal. It was still really good food though and they were very apologetic. The staff are very friendly and helpful. If you were thinking of going, do it. It's a good place.
E. K.
Nice for a Sunday lunch.
The trout and mussel starter though had way too many bones in it!
L. F.
We visited tonight and had a lovely meal. A bit of a faff ordering via the app but got there eventually. Did have to ask for our table to be wiped down after the previous occupants, an oversight as it ws busy.Beautiful setting, staff very attentive and great atmosphere. Will definitely come back when we're in the area.
H. P.
Nice place
Good food and drinks.
Beautiful terrace
J. A.
Stayed at The Cottage which was lovely and dog friendly. Had some lovely meals at the pub with fantastic service, from really friendly staff. The manager was excellent and really welcoming. Views over to the canal and towpath. Looking forward to another visit.
R. M. U.
Quick lunch time visit with our Paddy the dog, staff amazing with him and us. He got a sausage and we had a bite of lunch well worth a visit we will be back again soon.
M. B.
Had a overnight stay at the adjoining cottage, the foom was spacious, spotlessly clean & everything you need in there. The pub only looks small but goes on forever with a lovely beer garden overlooking the canal. The food we had was lovely & the belly pork was to die for. The manager & his staff work very hard & always have a smile behind the mask. We will deff be back again. Thankyou.
A. G.
Food is amazing and well presented and not that expensive, Staff are very friendly and will help you with anything.
J. T.
Great place nice food great in summer to sit out on the canal bank
B. F.
Visited with my wife. Sunday afternoon. Was busy but was found a table. Service was quick and friendly. Our meals arrived quickly and was very good. Will go back.
K. b. M. r.
Went for our anniversary and was so impressed with the whole experience. The surroundings were lovey set out so well and the service was excellent with staff members Franchiser and Lucy giving us first class service and going the extra mile to make our dining experience extra special. I highly recommend the dragon and we look forward to dining here again many times in the future.
D. &. J. A.
We've been twice now and plan to go again.
Nice outdoor seating with a lovely view of the Canal and Narrowboats.
Good Food and great service from all the staff. Ordered from the table. 👍
A. H.
Didn't eat there but the food we saw looked good. Will go back and try it out. Nice pub though, car park gets a bit full. Worth a visit
L. F.
I can honestly say, the best steak meal, everything was perfect. My wife had the sea bass and enjoyed it thoroughly too. 100% recommend this establishment
M. S.
Nice meal, great service.
Bit noisy
j. s.
Fab service, great food and a lovely experience being in a dome for the evening
E. S.
A very nice pub, covid safe & the food was absolutely amazing! Really enjoyed it. Lovely to eat next to the canal.
I was a little disappointed with the lack of explanation on how to order etc given the current situation, the table said via the app but the app didn't have the dragon as a place, so I had to ask how we ordered. I also asked for a high chair once we arrived, then had to ask another member of staff for one and then finally had to get one myself as nobody brought one and my little one got restless.
J. K.
The food was very good (although my Reuben burger was VERY salty) the service was a bit hit-and-miss. We had to chase our drinks order and constantly being referred to as "you guys" when we were a table of two males and two females of retirement age was jarring.
W.
Really enjoyed everything about this pub. Great location and a fantastic Sunday dinner. Might not be the cheapest but you get what you pay for.
A. A.
One of my favourite restaurant at the Mercia River.. amazing ambiance lovely staff.. so far I have visited 6 times within 3 weeks
D. W.
Me & my other half have just had a lovely lunch here. We've visited many times & we really enjoy visiting. We used the app but the ladies who bought our drinks & food out we're lovely. The location is great too 😊
D. P.
Give it a try! The restaurant serves generous tasty, portions.
S. B.
Very tasty Sunday lunch and friendly service.
P. H.
Excellent rump steak, busy with 50% off for Monday 2 Wednesday in August offer but prompt service.
J. S.
Brilliant, delicious food. Party of 15 and we were very safely seated and looked after.
M. K.
Good afternoon tea especially the sandwiches and ginger cake. Great maitre'd and staff. Had a lovely afternoon
M. T.
The food here is always excellent. They have a cracking beer garden, an expansive selection of drinks, a wonderful atmosphere and, maybe best of all, first class waiting staff. I don't know if they have an exceptional training program or if they manage to recruit among the best staff in the area by chance, but the whole team are brilliant. When you take into account the young age of most of them, this becomes even more impressive. The other pubs owned by the same people are similarly good.
J. P.
Nice pub but drinks r over priced ok 4 special occasions.
J. A.
Fantastic food. Wonderful and welcoming staff. Great atmosphere..if you haven't been,,you must visit !!
Sunday menu is a bargain.
L. H.
As always had a lovely evening here. I’m terrible for leaving reviews but today I wanted to comment as people are always quick to complain but not quick enough to complement.
During our time at The Dragon on 8/06/21 we were seated next to a couple who had been nothing but awkward all evening.
She sent her fish and chips back because the fish smelt like... fish. She then insisted on having a new plate which she completely gobbled down. When the waitress returned to ask if everything was okay she kept telling her that the food was awful and she wouldn’t be coming back. (Well she ate the whole plate in the end so clearly that dreadful) the husband then proceeded to lecture the young waitress whilst also repeating ‘we know it’s not your fault’
To all the staff that had to deal with this couple, well done! You were all polite, professional and kept calm and dignified the whole time.
If you’re thinking about coming to The Dragon then do, it’s always brilliant, the staff are great and the setting is gorgeous! But in these difficult times for retail and hospitality have a bit of respect and remember how desperate you were for them to reopen in the first place!
P. M.
Very pleasant and numerous staff happy to take you through the ordering app.
Spotless all over and a very nice place to be.
A different style of food well presented and prepared.
I will definitely return.
A. P.
Wish I could have given 5 stars, the quality & flavour of the food was exceptional but all food for all five meals arrived at the table very cool, if it had been hotter deffo 5 stars. We also had to ask for cutlery to use after both main & puddings arrived. We did mention this to staff & said they would take on board all our comments. We have been before & had no issues with quality, flavour or food temperature. The staff were welcoming & pleasant. We will go again hopefully this was a one off.
B. H.
Really good place to go for nice food. Shame at same time got people watching football and swearing as tgey would in a normal pub! But if you are just in the restaurant part cant fault the place
J. S.
Friendly staff, excellent coffee
J. V.
Had a fabulous champagne breakfast on Saturday the food was fantastic and the staff were lovely efficient and friendly. Everywhere was clean. We would definitely recommend we'll be back very soon
J. H.
Lovely meal and the staff were great. Would definitely recommend
K. D.
First experience of light English Breakfasts, it would have been scored 10/10, unfortunately the breakfasts was luke warm so I asked for it to be sent back to be heated up.
The result was an excellent hot breakfast which was also cooked to my requirements.
All the waitresses were lovely, and service was also excellent.
Highly recommend having your Sunday breakfast here 👍👍👍
J. W.
Very pleasant helpful staff, lovely food in nice surroundings. Whilst we were there, there was a rowdy group, don't mind normally but it was a Sunday lunch, but can't blame the pub for that. Highly recommend.
P. G.
Good for summer outside drinking by Tue canal. Inside too many kids running around.
H. W.
Lovely lunch. Just had a sandwich and a drink but it was very good. Friendly staff. It was quite busy but didn't have to wait too long for drinks or food.
K. J.
Great beer and food. Friendly service.they have worked hard to provide effective wind and water tight outside shelters.
Best to book ahead.
Parking can be a problem due to its popularity.
C. S.
Attentive, welcoming staff. Delicious food. Booked a pod which had a heater, twinkling lights, plants, candles and a hifi you could Bluetooth your music through. Fantastic experience
T. S.
A lovely canal side pub, good food but slightly on the expensive side. Now has a protected out door area to eat in that over looks the canal.
P. H.
Situated next to the canal, pleasant outdoor surroundings comfortably weather proof seating areas, reasonably priced drinks, good choice of menu ranging from lite bites pick any 3 for £15, to 3/4 courses with excellent quality meals, service a little slow if you are just drinking.
M. B.
Great outdoor seating area. Superb app to order from the table. Great service in a wonderful location. When Covid restrictions are over, I think that pubs and restaurants should continue to allow ordering via an app.
R. A.
The "app only" is a pain and takes away from a good hassel free service experience, had to leave our food as it was dripping with grease which was a shame. No way of sending it back as its all done by an app not real people. But it was Clean and the staff were friendly when we saw them. Not for me any more
T. Y.
Good food. Not the cheapest. Staff wander around alot but are friendly enough
C. S.
Lovely location, a little bit of road noise. 5 stars for breakfast (thoroughly recommend the breakfast sandwiches). Staff are brilliant. Possibly a little overpriced for dinner/wine.
R. L.
Lovely pub, inside and outside. Social distancing wasnt a problem as tables were spaced out and everyone remained in their seats. The service wasn't the best, two of our drinks were forgotten about, even after asking for them twice, these could have been placed on our bill but we didn't see one, we were just given the card machine, and we had to ask to order deserts and for our plates to be removed. My father and I ordered steaks, that were burnt (ordered medium rare and rare) and tough but my mother and husband said their burgers tasted wonderful.
M. A.
We stopped here for breakfast on our way to Alton towers. It will nownbe adopted as our breakfast preference. Excellent food choices and well made. Not over priced at all and the coffee was good.
Between us we had the fried breakfast, the lighter breakfast and the poached eggs and avocado on toast. No complaint or at all.
The civic measures in place are fine and we felt clean and safe the whole time. Their toilets were as clean as they could be too.
K. H.
We popped in a breakfast and it was a great, tasty breakfast - not a ghastly pink walls sauasge in sight! And the staff were so friendly and helpful, a real credit to the pub.
A. R.
Proper food. Chunky chips, think gammon, filled pies - highly recommend!
T. L.
A lovely place with friendly staff. Located right next to the canal you can enjoy, as we did, a great breakfast outdoors, something which was even more important at the time, due to the Covid pandemic.
A. L.
We had dinner on a Saturday night and sat outside and had a lovely evening. The food was good, the only reason it's not 5 stars is that the dauphinoise were a bit watery, could do with being a bit more creamy and having a bit more garlic (might just be personal preference!). The staff were extremely helpful, welcoming and friendly. We had our 5 year old daughter with us and they made a fuss of her which always helps relax you when you are out with your family, especially these days! We would go back for sure.
V. T.
Went for lunch Friday 6th May! Plenty of outdoor seating - fabulous atmosphere seeing friends meeting for food and drinks again ♡ There were plenty of attentive staff. Shame the food wasnt up to The Dragon's usual high standard, but they were catering for a LOT of people. I'd definitely go again! 👍
J. R.
Great views from the garden of the canal. Great food and good atmosphere
J. T.
My daughter choose this place to booking for my 65th birthday on December so look forward to go it's first time to go this place on December. I was checking map directions so good it's not far to drive!
R. W.
Lovely pub for a pint and some food!! Staff are so friendly, especially Anders. Couldn't have made us feel more welcome.......
R. G.
Loved the pubs atmosphere for our breakfast on Sunday. Staff all very attentive. Food lovely. Will be booking in again.
D. P.
Called in yesterday morning for breakfast, food was good as was the service. The only thing I had an issue with was the fly's, there was at least six flying around our table and while they had a fly killer in that area it unfortunately wasn't doing its job.
P. W.
The meal was lovely great place to eat.
g. a.
Lovely food great service. Friendly manager excellent
A. C.
We had a wonderful meal at The Dragon with our daughter and dog in tow.
We were seated quickly in a spacious area adhering to all covid 19 guidance re: 2m distance and all staff were wearing masks.
Table service was fast and fab. Food was served promptly and portion sizes were really generous. Would definitely return and recommend to friends and family.
J. T.
Absolutely perfect location if you arrive by narrowboat. Smart but still manages to be dog friendly, though if you hate dogs, there is an area where you can sit away from them. Very good beer, friendly staff. One of our favourite pubs on the canal.
r. d.
Very nice meal
A. S.
Food top notch and everyone so welcoming
T. M.
Friendly and welcoming staff, great food, fast service. Very happy!
J. R.
Went for our first covid controlled outside lunch date this week. The Dragon did a great job with their covid regs keeping everyone safe. The food and drink ticked all the boxes. Even though it was a sunny day after an hour or so we were feeling a little cold but that's the price you pay for eating out in April! All in all we loved it and look forward to the next one. Recommend booking first as it was pretty busy.
E. R.
Just a pint after work. Lovely setting. Easy app to order from. Very quick service to table. Menu looks great and will be dining there soon
A. r.
Had a lovely evening and was served by two of your staff, Gracie and Jake who were absolutely delightful and very accommodating with our orders, such a pleasure to find lovely friendly staff x keep up the good work.
D. P.
It's a nice friendly pub with table service via the app, which is handy. Always a decent pint. Nice beer garden.
S. D.
Went a couple of weeks ago just before 2nd lock down was announced, my partner and I had fillet steak, OMG it was amazing! Honestly the best steak I have ever had it was cooked to perfection! My little boy had sausage, mash and peas- again absolutely lovely! I couldn't leave without having desert so we had doughnuts- again absolutely amazing! Could not fault anything it was perfect, service was amazing the girls were lovely, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Cocktails were amazing, felt very safe with the measures in place. Love the idea of downloaded the menu to reduce waste. Keep doing what your doing 👏
N. P.
Amazing food! The dessert was delicious 🤤 Thank you Jakub for your professionalism and great service ☺️ 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟I will definitely be back to try the desserts cocktails! Can’t wait!
S. R.
Very nice pub. Popular. Good menu choice. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere . Let's of parking .
E. A.
Great service, very efficient and friendly. Very tasty food. Impressive choice of vegetarian and vegan dishes too that are original and very flavoursome. Good prices for the standard of cooking, value for money. We will return soon. My parents drive almost 3 hours to dine with me there and they were not disappointed
A. S.
Had a takeaway Beef Wellington tonight. It was absolutely beautiful. Wonderful fillet steak wrapped in pastry with a tasty sauce, potatoes and veg. Will definitely be coming back for more! Thank you team Dragon x
B. B.
A very nice pub with lovely food and great views. The only thing that affected our enjoyment was two dogs barking constantly at each other in the garden. The owners of the loudest and most vicious dog should have been asked to leave.
A. N.
Nice food let down by terrible & slow service. Only the manager managed to save our experience.
B. K.
Best to download their app before going. You access the menus and can order to table direct from there, plus gain loyalty points. It seems to work well
I. C.
The staff are really nice and welcoming and the locals are friendly and will have a chat with you. The drinks are nice and they had cheese and crackers on the side for free when I went. The toilet are nice and they have plenty of seating. They even have a over 18 area so the other area is nice for taking children. The place is cozy and outside is spacious. The only issue would be the parking place is small but it is surrounded by houses a school and a fish and chip shop so that is expected. I would definitely go again.
s.
Lovely pub with great service. There are vegan options which is great when dining with a group but they could do with a bit more consideration for flavour. I wasn't bowled over by the food like my veggie and meat eating friends.
T. E.
Great Pub, we visited as it was a family gathering for a milestone birthday. Not being from the local area I was impressed with this (clearly) popular pub. The beer was great and a large selection of spirits too, (you can probably see how my evening ended up!).
Talking of the evening, we were lucky enough to plan ahead and made a reservation, taking one of their rooms. The room was pretty awesome, large bed, TV, good sized bathroom and clean and tidy, was a bit sad to not to stay longer. Would recommend this pub for all that want to stop over in Derby. Also the breakfast was pretty epic too!
L. Y.
Great food, service could have been improved by having more staff. The waitresses were doing their best in the circumstances.
J. B.
We have just returned from a weekend at the Dragon and had a great time. The rooms are spacious, clean and cosy.
We had four meals in the restaurant ( two breakfasts and two dinners and each was excellent! I had the Goa Fish Curry and a Fillet steak both were fantastic.
All the staff were helpful and smiley. The locals were really friendly as well.
We will be going back.
M. B.
Get down there for great food 10/10
K. B.
I do like this pub and the setting. It gets very busy so if you're eating book in advance, there isn't many places to sit if you're just out for a pint so go early. It is also dog friendly which is great. Food is of good quality and staff are helpful and polite. This place is even better in the summer as it sits on the canal.
h. n.
Spot on breakfast decent price on beer
S. S.
A lovely pub with a scenic setting alongside the canal. Beautiful large garden with nice views over the water, there's often a few canal boats moored nearby. Food is excellent quality and good value. Staff are friendly and helpful. It gets very busy on sunny days.
P.
The recent addition of craft beer is very welcome, foods always good too.
F. v. H.
Lovely pub with large outside area and right next to the canal. We had a super meal and it was excellent value. If you like burgers then you must try the 'house burger' it was beautiful. We also tried the chicken burger which was tasty and one of us had the fish and chips. Friendly staff, dog friendly too. Great place.
P. N.
Excellent friendly staff. Great range of beers, manager had very good product knowledge and insisted I had a small taste of almost every beer. Didn't eat but food looked good. Dog friendly in public bar which is nicely decorated with a large screen TV showing the sport.
T. M.
Food was good, when It eventually came!!! Pre booked a Sunday lunch and it took 35 mins for the first course to arrive and then another 5 mins for the veg!!! Bit of a cheek considering they're one of the few places that give you an hour and a half limit on a table!!!
At the end of the meal we had mysteriously had another £8 added to our bill, when it was queried was told that they were having problems with their billing system on a packed Sunday dinner time.
I wonder how many people had paid and not realised?! Our bill was sorted out and another 20% taken off the for the slow service.
Average experience.
A. C. M.
The Best Pub Food I Have Ever Tasted. And Curtis has to be the best barman in Britain. Exemplary service. He is super friendly and helpful beyond the ordinary. The business owners should take note. Bar staff like this are hard to find.
Back to the food... It is gorgeous. Can't fault a thing. Don't miss this pub!
m. t.
Had a great time with my partner food was cooked to perfection and the service was fantastic. Highly recommended for a good meal and a catch up.
M. L.
(NB. I wrote this review last September and it's just been posted!)Couldn't fault it! I went there for a birthday lunch today with family and found the service to be extremely friendly and efficient. The food was lovely. After lunch we had coffee in their very smart garden overlooking the canal and was very kindly brought a complimentary birthday treat! Overall a very pleasant experience. Will definitely return and also recommend.
A. S.
We chanced upon this place whilst walking along the canal into Willington from Mercia Marina. On a hot day this was a perfect stop for a beer in the extensive garden. It looked pretty good inside too.
The beer selection is good, and they were even setting up to cook hot food outside. We'll come here again.
V. W.
Derby is becoming my second home - was taken to this lovely pub by the canal on Saturday after a fabulous day out...decent pint before the clouds gathered in the garden - will return, possibly by bicycle, for lunch sometime soon I'm sure
J. H.
Tuesday evening dinner , no booking, very covid friendly.
We had a sea bass caesar salads mine was divine, perfect leaves , croutons, dressing and the sea bass was perfect ! Lovely young lady that served us too .
Seated outdoors.
Lovely place .
D. R.
Felt very Covid-19 secure with appropriate measures in place. Service staff were helpful and friendly. Despite it being busy food arrived promptly.
Also, a big thank you to Oli who located my lost ring and responded with alacrity.
k. h.
Very good food and service staff very helpful
M. H.
My family like the Dragon more than I do, although this time we had no problem with the booking as we spoke directly to the pub and didn't use their central booking system. Family enjoyed their food and it is not too expensive. Staff are helpful and friendly and their individual styles (from almost Japanese subservient to American Abruptness) kept us on our toes!
L. B.
Lovely food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is really exquisite and at there for the 3rd time with a friend yesterday. It was the first time she had been and she said that she will be returning also. I have moved away and now drive 40 minutes to get there but it's so worth the drive. It is definitely somewhere I can recommend if you love fine dining. I shall definitely be returning. Thank you.
C.
Attended a wedding held here. It can smoothly. The staff were in good spirits, no grumpy faces. Drinks were a tad pricey but it is expected at weddings. Would certainly go here again for food and drinks.
M. P.
Lovely food and ambience went there tor daughters birthday about 12 of us all catered for Very well .
T. P. I. D.
Great looking pub, nicely situated next to the canal, great for summer's day. Friendly attentive staff. Came along with a party, so food not a hit with all members, including myself, but it was a limited menu from which I was asked to choose from. Certainly won't stop me from returning and trying more of the menus on offer.
C. N.
Lovely pub, great menu and choice, food fresh and well presented. Portions are on the smaller side. Cosy ambience and stylish cosy furnishings. Service is good and the staff are relaxed and welcoming.
G. I.
What a fantastic meal, our waitress Harriet was so helpful and gracious. Food was served promptly even though they were very busy and they catered well for our daughter with her allergy. Plenty of good quality tasty food. Lovely setting for a lovely family lunch xx
M. R.
Had lovely Sunday roast here today. Great pub, lovely friendly welcoming staff and great food.
C. S.
Better than average gastropub
g. g.
We went there on February 3rd after opening pork from Asda that was rotten even though in date. Rang the Dragon and asked for a table and was pleasantly surprised to find we got one within 5 minutes of arrival. The food is excellent quality and value for money and there are loads of staff on hand. I can't wait to try the new glass terrace in summer by the canal beautiful setting really lovely country style pub and great ale as well
E. C.
It was very busy food warm not hot pork very thinly sliced similar to bought cooked ham veggies very nice and lots of them. Apple cake nice and light but with only a desert spoon of custard! Service good and food presented well.
M. C.
Lovely food great service
M. D.
Food excellent but service was awful. Lots of servers around but seemed to spend time talking to each other and not paying arrention to diners.
B. T.
A lovely pub and we had a fantastic meal. Mmm the fish and Sticky Toffee pudding was so lovely. Gorgeous pub! We had family take us. Would love to come back one day and have another meal here. We are from New Zealand 😁
D. T.
Great beer. Terrace next to canal is a lovely place to while away a Sunny afternoon. Food isn't particularly cheap but is decent quality. I'd go here for a beer in the sun but would go to the boot in Repton or Harper's in Melbourne (both owned by same people) if I wanted a nice meal out.
D. D.
Just a quick memo directed to all the staff of the Dragon to say THANKYOU for making our wedding day meal very special. The staff were extremely busy and the kitchen struggling but were pleasant and made us feel special on our special day. I can't thank you enough....
E.
After hearing good reviews from friends about the breakfast, we decided to come for my dads birthday! The food was OK not really very warm or appealing! If you like small hard fried eggs, hard, thinly sliced black pudding then it's OK! On arrival we were asked what we would like to drink, we ordered tea and coffee, which we should have ordered to arrive with the breakfast but we didn't, which meant we had nearly finished these when the food arrived. We asked for water, what a nice touch to put cucumber in the glass.
C. B.
Great food here, meat pie was fantastic.
D. B.
We have had some fantastic meals at the Dragon over the years and I was very impressed with their organisation for Covid but just came away from this visit feeling a little disappointed. Starters were quite pricey and very salty, mains were ok, but not outstanding.
B. R.
Friendly staff and great beer. Favourite pub
r. h.
Lovely Pub!
We visited the dragon on Saturday whilst the weather was lovely so we decided to sit outside, we had some drinks and decided to eat off the outdoor barbecue menu which was fantastic.
The food is brilliant and the atmosphere was great with a lovely setting by the canal.
Highly recommend !
D. H.
Stopped by on a business trip, table was reserved, food was well presented and very good, they had some nice beers on tap, staff very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely go back again as the garden overlooks the canal so could make for some nice evenings in the summer.
W. M.
Popped in for Sunday lunch after reading reviews and not dissapointed. Had drinks while waiting half hr for table for four as very busy around 1.30.
Good range of drinks on offer.
Staff very attentive, nothing to much trouble. Food very nice indeed not dissapointed at all and would recommend the chicken especially. All in all a very pleasurable experience and thanks to all staff involved.
R. C.
It’s a lovely place but my pie was cold but fair play to them it was sorted out quickly only reason I took a star off
K. P.
Brilliant, the staff are so patient and attentive. Food was great and the beer excellent. Well done.
C. P.
Excellent food, served in good time, confident, polite and helpful staff.
The new covid rules- the exit to the car park could do with some signage as you kind of have to walk around the town to get back to the car park 🤣
s. b.
Visited last night, the food was excellent and very good value for money but the service was slow and not very good, we were left waiting long times between courses, drinks were forgotten (and the response was quite rude when chased up), menus didn't arrive for dessert and we had to ask again, then to top that off we'd been overcharged on the bill. It was fairly busy but there seemed to be at least two of the servers standing chatting at the till point at all times which made it particularly frustrating. Such a shame because the food was outstanding but this let it down.
j. 6.
Great food and really friendly staff.
They have really good covid measures in place and we felt really safe.
After lunch we took a nice walk down the side of the canal.
J. W.
Delicious food, beautifully presented. Great atmosphere too. Just spoiled a little by member of staff calling us 'you guys', myself, husband and 87 year old aunt! Funny though. Maybe we're just old fashioned.
G. S.
Food very good, unfortunately had to wait 45 mins for dessert, only 1 got brought to table then had to go and ask where the other 3 where ,totally unaware we hadn't got them.it may have been a shift change and wires were crossed however good value fir money and would visit again .
J. F.
An elegant pub and restaurant in the small village of Willington, The Dragon does an absolutely exceptional breakfast. Very reasonably priced and expertly prepared using very high quality ingredients. There is a wonderful glassed-in eating area around the back that overlooks the canal. Parking is convenient and there are wonderful walks around the canals and up to Mercia Marina.
N. M.
Lacks the quality service of making customers feel valued. Feels like you're there to eat and leave. This is fair enough as it's working for them. Great for quick bites and the food is above average mainly
M. G.
Wonderful experience. Staff very friendly and efficient. Food superb.dog friendly too. Would highly recommend.
D. L. S.
From outside looks very welcoming on a cold winter's night. Staff helpful, didn't have to wait too long for our table, and the food was delicious. One star deducted for the absent minded waitress who thought my plate was better served on my lap rather than the table
J. L.
Just absolutely fabulous. Food, staff, service and I am a picky customer. If youve not been you are missing out.
r. g.
Great place. Just needed a boat to get in and out of the gents toilets. Beer, first class.
C. R.
We enjoyed our time under the tents outside. The food was good and the service too. We didn't book but I imagine it is busy at time.
J. A.
Food was ok although gammon just came with chips no peas! Looked very bland on the plate. Too many flies indoors too.
S. C.
The menu is always varied but safe with plenty of variety even for those with dietary requirements. Not cheap but well worth the price. Always book especially for lunch and dinner as it gets very busy at both times helped by the proximity of the canal frontage. Worth a visit
G. B.
Super pub very friendly and helped us to be able to stay even though we didn't book. Great service.
g.
Friendly village pub in a great location close to the Trent and Mersey canal. Great drinks choices including some well kept real ales. Excellent food and regular acoustic music on. Well worth a visit.
M. A.
An Amazing place! 5* Service with 5* food! Staff couldn't do enough to please us! 10/10
Z. B.
Food is amazing and the service is fantastic.

Good food with some interesting choices of beers brewed locally. Service was a bit patchy but it was busy

A lovely discovery. All tables were reserved so asked if they could fit us in and they could as long as we were finished by 8pm which was fine. My only criticism on the food is they leave the skin on the battered fish. Coming from the North we eat skinless fish. Perhaps that is a Midland tradition. Lovely atmosphere and decor is lovely. Bar staff were lovely and very accommodating. Remember to book a table as it is very popular.

Nice and cozy inside. Staff are nice and this time of year they have an open fire which is lovely. The service could be quicker but the food is very nice so it's worth the wait. The prices are fine to be honest, what you would expect considering the crowd it brings in and the area. Gets very busy on the weekend and live bands.

Lovely pub / restaurant with modern classic style, by the canal so you can go for a stroll before or after. Food is excellent with plenty of choice including for vegetarians and vegans. Lots of space inside with a cosy atmosphere. The conservatory at the back is great for larger parties and groups, with fantastic light and an open feeling. Most of the party had roast dinner which came with a wonderful Yorkshire pudding and fantastic, fresh veg on the side. Free wifi, plenty of parking and lovely staff too. Prices not the cheapest but definitely not unreasonable. Worth checking out.

Sunday roast was fabulous. We walked from Littleover to Willington in order to make our booking. We were running late so we called ahead, they held our table for 45 minutes. Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere.

First meal at The Dragon on Sunday and it was thoroughly delightful. Will definitely be making a return visit. Went with the family an all for of us had a different meal from the menu and all of us thoroughly enjoyed what we were offered.
J. A.
Good pub good beer good choice, quantity and quality of food. Enjoyable pint of Boot bitter.
C. T.
Fabulous pub/restaurant with extremely delicious food and great customer service.
S. B.
Lovely place to sit outside in the sun! But they do have a cover as well so even if it is a bit drizzly you can still have a nice time out
R. 2.
Fantastic pub situated next to the canal with excellent outdoor seating area. Great atmosphere with welcoming staff. Food is amazing with great selections from burgers to Sunday roast. Parking is limited however there is parking for the train station nearby so that would come in handy.
R. H.
Lovely pub that suits everything from family sit down dinners to nights out with mates. Garden area is canal side with shaded seating and the food is always of a good quality drinks on tap are of distinct quality and can't be faulted

The Dragon is a modern country pub which is bustling with life. The restaurant and bar where busy here on a Friday night but this made it feel like the place to be. The service in the restaurant was amiable and attentive. The atmosphere was energetic and due to the addition of a log burner, homely. The menu is essentially classic British pub, dressed up with fashionable additions such as haloumi fries, baked Camembert and Cured Bavette. We enjoyed our meal here and will be back.
D. M.
Nice pub, good food but, with the exception of the Fish and chips, small portions for the price and style of food. We didn't feel we got value for money.
M.
Good pub, clean and respectable patrons, good bar staff service
Plenty of parking space
A. C.
Good food, lovely atmosphere, excellent staff, great night out
m.
Great outdoor seating area by the canal. The food was delicious delicious friendly service I would highly recommend
L. M.
Very good service and great food. Really well done outdoor area.

It's a much better pub than the Dragon of my youth. The opened out back garden, leading into the canalside, is genuinely lovely in the summer. And the food is really very decent, if not in any way groundbreaking. Good way to burn a few hours at the weekend.
P. M.
Lovely looking pub but due to the circumstances drinks /ice cream etc were purchased from a stable door serving hatch and all purchased had to be taken outside onto the canal banks. Lovely ice cold Larger...Ahhhh

Had been for weekday lunch previously as there are plenty of gluten free options. Sunday lunch they only offer the Sunday menu, which is not clear on the website. The gluten free option is basically to remove Yorkshire pudding and stuffing and provide gf gravy. That's not a gluten free option. It's simply reducing the plate of food. After asking many questions I asked for a burger meal, which was on offer for children only. We were given additional salad and gf onion rings and a discount off the bill which was given without us asking. It was for our inconvenience. The food was good .particularly the salmon starter. all presented very well and quickly even though it was very busy. The staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere good. I think the gluten free options need to be clearer. If we go back it will not be for Sunday lunch .

We enjoyed a delicious lunch outside at The Dragon yesterday. Fabulous service, masks worn by staff, great social distancing observed. The experience was very positive. Thank you ;-)
L. H.
Lovely food and atmosphere and friendly staff will be returning
L. H.
Staff were friendly, but masks gone now and they didn't distance so felt vunerable.
Food nice but not great.

Great food, although you need to be prepared to wait for it because as with most gastro pubs - this isn't microwaved rubbish! Great selection of ales, roaring fire in winter, canal side alfresco dining in summer often with a fantastic a la carte BBQ. My perfect local!!
a. h.
The service is very slow and prices are expensive for the type of food served. Some nice theme dinners in the past. Uncomfortable seats, okay atmosphere. They are happy with customers working on their laptops (as long as it's between 10-12am). WiFi is okay.
B. W.
Having been for a Covid test near here we stopped for lunch and enjoyed it. Staff were lovely and food good too.
j. w.
Nice place. Have to use the app and right etc which is a slight pain but food is good.
V. S.
This was my first visit here and it was very nice. Sure I'll be visiting again. The buttermilk chicken burger is delicious!
S. S.
Excellent service as always, went out of their way to cater for gluten free child
I. S.
Little bit more than run of the mill. The gammon was tasty, moist and char- grilled, the eggs exactly as requested and the chips both crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. Madame's was equally pleasing. Good range of ales too....

Lovely location and great pub

We were both sadly disappointed with our eating experience at this pub.
We had been tempted by the photographs of their meals in the menu section of their website and how good they looked.
So my wife ordered the Fish De Jour (why they don't spell it all in French heaven only knows!!) because she had seen an image of what looked like it on the website. She was told it was bream and so she was so looking forward to possibly 2 fillets as the image indicated, however when it arrived, beautifully presented there was only one very thin fillet positioned on top of some garlic crushed potato and some spinach.
She doesn't have a large appetite but she thought the charge of £15.95 for such an exceptionally small portion was a total rip off !!
As for me, I fancied the 10oz rump steak so I duly ordered one, medium cooked, I was asked if I would like any sauce and so decided on the peppercorn sauce, forgetting that this would be charged at £3.50 extra.
The steak arrived (we eat a lot of steak at home) and I very much doubt if it weighed anywhere like 10oz!!
The peppercorn sauce was very thin and runny and quite unlike any sauce of this name I have ever eaten before in my long life.
The steak was OKish and that is being exceptionally complimentary indeed!
Will we ever eat here again, no most certainly not as they don't supply value for money, although I must add the beers served are excellent!!
J. M.
Visited twice now after reopening outdoors both times great atmosphere, great food, and the staff are doing a wonderful job well done.
S. R.
Efficient a polite staff... Placing the order order by the app is a bit of a pain. A bit to modern and plastic for me, but it suits many.
C. P.
Really nice not been in for years, a good choice of drinks and beers, better than your average village pub. It was quite expensive compared to other pubs in the village hence 4 stars, but on reflection worth it.
W. B.
Lovely eating place view's of the canal plus great service from young staff..
All in all fabulous thank you
Will return

Service is excellent. Home made pies are excellent but the ravioli unfortunately is brought in and leaves a lot to be desired. Our complaint was sorted out immediately and they way it was dealt with would ensure that we will revisit
G. A.
Beautiful menu, very good customer service and lovely decor! Thanks :)
D. M.
Excellent take away can't wait for Dec 25th!
We were not disappointed as it was a real adventure in a year that challenged us all.
Well done and thanks 😊
G. Y.
Lovely food, good service, was very relaxed and allowed dogs.

Really lovely pub, great location with good food options. Amazing place to eat outside in the summer months. Sits right alongside the canal so a nice walk after your food too!
j. 6.
Great food and really friendly staff.
They have really good covid measures in place and we felt really safe.
After lunch we took a nice walk down the side of the canal.

Food was ok although gammon just came with chips no peas! Looked very bland on the plate. Too many flies indoors too.
A. M.
Very pricey and closes early

Great pub, friendly staff, lovely fresh beer and lovely surrounding next to the canal!!
T. B.
Lovely pub .Great food lovely atmosphere great outdoors area
A. D.
Very good quality, quite expensive. I love that 'the willage' has a choice of 3 pubs: a cheap boozer (Crown), mid-price diner (Green Man) & posh gastro-pub (Dragon).
P. M.
Very good service , friendly staff. Altogether an excellent experience.
k. h.
Lovely food

The service was very slow, 3 tables came in after us & got their breakfast before us. The food was ok but the portion small for £8 (smoked haddock & poached egg) staff were lovely though.
K. P.
Good choice of food and beverage, friendly staff, good service and quality of food exceptional
S.
Lovely food, excellent service, very helpful staff.
M. P.
Family and friends have been here with us on many occasions, and it's never disappointed. Fabulous location next to the canal, great views, delicious food with great choice, and a buzzing atmosphere.
C. M.
Went there with family for my 18th and the service was excellent. Sat in the domes, it was fantastic! 100% recommend going there.
S. B.
Great place good food the staff are friendly and helpful, the Full English Breakfast fantastic, I just wish the tea pot was full and hot, I would recommend the pub/restaurants 100%
C. S.
Only popped in with a friend for a drink and meeting. Looks like a great place. Good views on the river and a great outdoors area, some of which is under cover and sheltered from the elements. Looking forward to going back for a bite to eat.
A. C.
Food was fantastic, no complaints besides some crampedness. That's just the atmosphere. Lovely place for both formal meals and family dinners.
J. C.
Called in early for coffee. Location was fabulous, coffee very good and staff excellent. Staff who are polite and friendly get a similar response from those they serve. I bet that the staff here go home happy.

Today is my husband birthday
We went for lunch... I cheers him... We ate a wonderful lunch and at the end the lovely young woman serving us brought Richard a happy birthday slate with chocolate cake.... Wonderful touch... Attention to individual service... Beautiful setting amazing food and service we can't fault... Definitely going again.... Thank you xx 😘
J. R.
We had a nice evening the food was nice this time compared to the last visit.
P. O.
Very popular with diners. Excellently cooked food from a wide and varied menu option. Staff friendly and efficient. Cleanliness of both dinning area and toilets - spotless
S. M.
Love this pub. So cosy but big enough always to get a table. I just wish we were within walking distance. Great food always. Thank you
G. A.
Excellent food (and nice to have a real pint!). Good service but very careful with the currently-necessary restrictions.
M. S.
Been a few times and generally the experience has been enjoyable. The food is always tasty and well presented. Sometimes the service is slow. Doesn’t seem to have a drinks menu, so I’d peruse the bar selection before going to get your table, as it’s hit or miss if the serving staff know what they serve.
D. A.
Very good food and friendly service
K. J.
Pls pls go here if you can .. the service and the food is exceptional. Such a lovely place and service with a smile x
C. C.
Nice environment by the canal but priced slightly higher compared to neighbouring pubs
L. P.
The food was good and when you pick a deal like three starters or the 2or 3 course option the prices are OK. The service however was shockingly bad.
K. T.
Love this place great ales from the local Boot microbrewery. Good food man size portions. The accommodation is spot on and very clean. Staff friendly and helpful.
R. D.
Very pleasant meal and very tasty steak, recommended.
N. W.
Excellent food and service.
Great improvement since last visit.
C. J.
Pub ok good location, but having to order on the app is a nightmare, it requires far too much information, eventually ordered via a member of staff.
S. S.
Food is gorgeous. Not the quickest but worth the wait. Menu is very varied. Always busy. Definitely worth a visit. Got to book if you want a table
A. C.
Atmosphere and food was nice. Lackluster customer service and little bit of judgement on the way out. Guess your experience will be down to who serves you but overall it's a pretty good place
M. T.
Stopped off for a coffee here after a walk down the canal. Beautiful pub!
