Finally made it up to The Hoptimist and it was absolutely worth it. Fairly small micropub but it has the benefit of one of the best outdoors areas I've ever seen, in fact the entire place has been decorated superbly, it's modern yet inviting and warm. There's 4 cask beers alongside 3 keg, ciders, wine, spirits and a selection of cans and bottles. The beers were really good, I suspect they have a high turnover so it's always in peak condition. There's no food as such but there's delicious scotch eggs, peanuts, crisps etc, there's also a chippy across the road and various cafés all within a few minutes walk. There's easy transport to Derby city centre with a bus stop almost directly outside, this is the same for getting there as there's a bus stop on the opposite side of the road. The girl behind the bar was friendly and approachable, we felt completely at home dispite it being our first visit. A great addition to Spondon, we'll definitely be back.

Great little pub, with cosy area out the back. We spent several hours there. Lovely staff and very reasonable prices, for some great local ales. (Great selection of ales too - I think at least 5 pumps on). Definitely recommend.

First time in this bar tonight, and was immediately impressed in what the owners/landlord had achieved with the space. The ales were really tasty and fresh. Great atmosphere, really enjoyed it. Will definitely be back soon.

I really like the decor, they have done a really good job in that respect. Prices are a bit high, and I'm not sure about the "communal" toilet, especially from a female perspective, although I appreciate it's possibly the best solution due to space restrictions. My biggest issue is I never feel as if its a very welcoming atmosphere, it seems like the hosts find it agreeable to accept my money, but not very desirable of the inconvenience of actually having to serve me.

Cracking wee pub with a brilliant atmosphere. Laid back, relaxed and welcoming to everyone. Good selection of booze including gins and ales. Even a Gourmegg or two! It was busy on a Thursday afternoon so I can imagine it would be packed Fri to Sun. Will certainly be back!

If you like proper beer in great surroundings and a lovely atmosphere then this is for you. The beer changes all the time, very often on the recommendation of the locals. Very good beer in a cosy, welcoming pub. Worth a visit.

Very nice interior and selection of beers. The price however is very high. All the tables on our visit was all reserved which shouldn't be a thing for a microbar. We came on the bus from Ilkeston and arrived 15mins early, if we'd have got there for half past 2 there wouldn't of been space to sit. Overall nice place, won't be returning unless the price of a pint comes down.

Good micropub. Good for Dogs. Small with good ambience. Staff happy to serve and quick to clean up where possibly. Fre dog biscuits. A bit pricey but that's inflation for you. Choice of beer.Worth a visit
