Reviews of The New Inn
C. H.
Great food choices with lite bite meals as well as regular.friendly helpful staff ..nice food good portions..
P. S.
As a good pub should be, the New Inn served 9 of us out for an 8 mile walk, with excellent food accompanied by equally good drinks. For me, 6 excellent cask beers was a bonus. As others have mentioned, the Lite Bites menu is a good place to start. I for one will definitely be back.
J. M.
Great fresh hearty food, good beer, and great atmosphere. Special mention goes to Mandy for her exceptional customer service which I have rarely - if ever - seen elsewhere in any profession. Will definitely be coming back a few more times in the future
A. M.
Lovely setting opposite the Mersey and Trent Canal. Sadly let down by the unkempt seating area where you ate food , which was untidy with Cigarette Butt's and other debris which was very un inviting. No sure if they had an area where you can eat with non smoking. But the staff were lovely and the food was nice.
J. T.
Second time waiting here this month and it was great both times . Yesterday was a lovely beef Sunday lunch portion size is great beef beautifully cooked as was the veg no floppy overdone carrots here .
Just be warned portions Arte generous my partner had the light bite and it was almost as big as my main and the main was definitely of a good size .
Highly recommended for food and beer be even better once it warms up a d that beer garden can be utilised .
S. D.
We visited here a couple of weeks ago for Saturday lunch after previously visiting all be it a few years ago when we had a wonderful meal...... First was given someone else's meal- nothing like what I ordered wish I'd said nothing and ate it as the chicken and with bacon and Stilton was tough and nothing like i expected it to look the presentation could of been better looked like it had been slapped together
Such a shame especially when you have taken someone there as a treat
A. M.
Came here during travelling for work, lovely little village pub, great atmosphere, catered to every request, great food and service. Highly recommend
J. E.
Had a nice family meal, food was served quick. Came out hot. Friendly atmosphere. Reasonable cots too. Also you can have a little stroll by the waters edge where there are boats mored. No complaints.
W. C.
A good selection of dishes. prices are reasonable. It locates just 5 minutes drive off M1 junction 24a. Trent river and canal are nearby in a short distance walk.
G.

Nice spot by the canal with a range of real ales.
A. F.
Good pub, good food, excellent staff
P. W.
Lovely food and friendly staff
K. C.
Very pleasant canal-side pub with well-spaced tables outside. Shame not all tables have the option of an umbrella for shade. Good selection of food: light bites, baguettes, full meals. Good, friendly, prompt service.
T. O.
Great food always stop by this place when passing on the boat
C. H.
Nice food, friendly staff. I would have given 5 stars, but they didn't tell us the kitchen was closing and we were 5 minutes too late to order dessert 😭
K. G.
Pleasant dog friendly pub. Plenty of room inside. We had the Lite bite menu which was big enough for us and very reasonably priced We will certainly go again
J. M.
Lovely little pub set by the canal which offers an excellent breakfast allowing you to swap some of the foods up to the same value. Decent sized portions as well. Polite, friendly staff. Highly recommended.
B. H.
Very friendly staff, tasty food and a nice beer every time.
P. B.
Good, homemade food. Choose the "light bites" unless you have a huge appetite! Great place for breakfast or lunch and a lovely walk along the canal.
N. B.
Lovely little spot for lunch in sunny weather, food was nice and reasonably priced. Only issue was ordered pint of lime n soda and was given half, then ordered half for when food arrived and given pint 🤷♂️ Lite bite options are still a good size.
C. B.
Went here for the first time in a long time today. It's always been our favourite place to eat but whilst the food was as good as ever, I can only describe the service as shambolic.
Virtually zero social distance measures, rude staff who hadn't a clue what they were meant to be doing, and all of the three other tables occupied had issues either with their payment or the or the orders themselves.
Hopefully things will pick up to how they were pre covid before long.
L. D.
Meal light bite fish chips mushy peas ok. Big enough portion. Staff very helpful but wheelchair access not easy, found it difficult to get it through the pub even with staff help
T. F.
Love this lovely pub loverly staff 2 xx
J. M.
Nice to see it so busy. Liked the service. They should all be pleased
D. B.
Good food potions very good decor nice atmosphere thank you
S. C.
All good, ham salad baguette and chips after a great walk along the canal and river at Shardlow. Nice to see people out enjoying the sun, we got a table in the garden at 12 o'clock bank holiday Sunday Whitsun. Queueing for tables at 13.00 but pretty well organized with plenty of waiting staff. Enjoyed the visit.
C. H.
Fantastic pub and staff nothing to much for them animals welcome food is Fantastic
J. A.
Traditional pub. Car Park. Outside seating and a covered area. Ok for physically impaired access. Set adjacent to the canal. Good Covid procedures experienced while there. Food good quality traditional pub fare. Good range of beers. Toilets clean and well decorated. Card sales and willingness to split bills ( there were 6 of us.) Good place after a walk of which there are many from Shardlow.
D. E.
Good pub! Good food and beer!
S.
Had the turkey baguette and it was amazing. The best turkey moist and thick slices brilliant.
A. M.
A lovely canal side pub with a welcoming atmosphere and excellent food
L.
Good beer friendly staff, well worth a visit. Good location
W.
Enjoyed a couple of pints and a chat with a few pub goers, the food menu looked Appetising. Most drinkers sat on benches outside with the canal view.
K. B.
The Wobbly Wanderer was here recently with a friend.
The New Inn is situated alongside the Canal just a short walk from The Clock Warehouse Pub (closed)park.
We got seated outside and were soon asked what we wanted to drink.
Once the order wea taken (and paid for in advance)
We then ordered a meal each (paid for in advance again).
The drinnks arrived quite quickly we were advised there would be a wait for food.
After a considerable time the food didn't seem to materialise.
We enquired as to when we might get it.
After a while and a lot of visits from various members of staff it turned out that our meals had been given to another table in error. (hope they enjoyed it!).
The staff were very apologetic and assured us they would replace our meals as a matter of priority (which they did).
Wobbly one ordered a Cajun Chicken with Salad and the "Stand In" Wobbly Wanderer ordered Cumberland Sausage.
The Chicken was OK but unfortunately the Chips were a trifle overdone.
The Cumberland Sausage looked good and disappeared at a decent rate
The New Inn compensated us for the inconvenience...so no harm done!.
As a side note it was nice to see the proud parent swans and their young going down the canal .
S. A.
At lunchtime today I popped in with a couple of friends and as usual the place was busy and most of the tables taken. We had rather a long wait for our food, about 45 mins or so , though when it came we all enjoyed our meals. Not had to wait so long before for food to arrive. The portions are large (even the lite bites), the quality is consistent and the prices are very reasonable.
r. R.
We come here very regularly for food as it is normally very nice and good portions. We always come on new years day for lunch it's our tradition. How ever our experience was not up to normal standards. We had to wait a long time for our food and people who walked in the pub after us got meals first and on arrival one of our meals was cold
E. S.
Love the new inn great food lovely place to sit out in summer great people
S. A. O.
Very nice setting but also very expensive for the drink £4.85 for a pint seems a bit extortionate to me!
G. S.
Lovly place fabulous food, only the sirloin steak was really tuff, but still enjoyed the food .
G. T.
Lovely pub by the canal, fantastic service by the two young lady staff members, nice indoor and outdoor seating. The only letdown was the menu only because of the lack of fresh summery food in what was a gorgeous day. To most probably acceptable if you want a heavier meal or sandwich, but then this is a good old fashion pub and it lives up to that. I had the salad with chicken which was fine. All in all, go try it out, not many would be dissapointed 😉
A. N.
We've just been today 17/04/2021 with our friends party of four, we didn't book a table we just turned up, but what a lovely surprise we had, the lady who manages the pub was so friendly and acomodating, sat us down on a table, the order service was fast, absolutely top down to earth from the people who run the business to the staff...
We've been regulars before the lockdown, they're good before but coming back today surpassed our expectations when other pubs in Shardlow were really bad service.. for example The Old Crown Inn shambles,we're waiting for our drinks 1 hour and 15 minutes... and people all over the place were waiting up to 2 hours for first round of drinks...so, well done The New Inn, keep up the good work we shall return.
👍👌😉
L. S.
Such a lovely friendly place great food
T. B.
1st pub visit and meal since this phase of lock down easing. Excellent service, food well cooked and well presented. Will be back.
A. H.
Been going here for over 20 yrs.....food is excellent, guest beers are superb
G.
A lovely little pub in Shardlow, food quality is great for the price you pay. Not going to be restaurant quality but still excellent for pub food. Drink prices are reasonable and staff are nice. Come in here a lot with my family for food and never been disappointed. My only issue is it gets loud when the match is on, apart from that, a great pub.
S. C.
excellent service great staff and great food..
D. F.
I've been dragged here (against my will of course), many times by my parents and forced to eat some excellent steaks.
Nice country style pub with good quality pub food at reasonable prices. Beer is good, staff are friendly, it's almost becoming too popular now though because it can get quite crowded at times. But not without good reason. Proper traditional pub.
Recommend the 16oz rump :)
S. H.
Lovely canal side pub. Good food, excellent range of meals and able to accommodate dietary requirements well. Huge portions!
Nice range of drinks including good selection of ales. Bar staff on the whole are friendly and happy to help.
Reasonable sized car park if you need to drive.
J. D.
Staff efficient with orders given the current situation. QR codes for registration of track and trace. Also for ordering food and drinks. Not the best of weather for the staff but it t didn't seem to be of great concern to them.
S. C.
Lovely location right beside the canal. Plenty of seats outside to enjoy the view and sunshine. The menu has a good choice and same choice as lite bites for the smaller appetites. Old fashioned pub friendly and basic nice to go somewhere away from the run of the mill plastic pubs.
A. H.
Lovely friendly staff, very reassuring.
Food was spot on, never tasted a lasagne like it!
Will definitely be returning!
M. B.
Great location over looking the canal, nice food. Child friendly. I recommend trying the sundaes, especially on a hot day.
J. C.
A dog friendly pub. Order via the app, then table service. Lovely view of the canal and boats from the outside tables.
M. C.
Good food. Nice selection.
A. P.
Lovely pub in a lovely village. Plenty of room, including outside, Stowford Press was good after a walk along the canal
D. W.
Party of 7 - 5 adults and 2 children ranging in ages from 2 to 84 yrs old-enjoyed an evening meal here. All tastes catered for with an order at the bar service. Staff friendly and helpful food plentiful, tasty and easy on the wallet. Enjoyed a brief stroll by the canal before returning home as it was such a nice evening. Would recommend a visit and will return soon.
p. t.
Fantastic pub and great food, the only thing letting it down was the arrogant behaviour of a couple of what appear to be locals, not by any means the pubs fault, great place.
d. n.
Great atmosphere, great staff, great selection of real ales and great food. You won't be disappointed
C. T.
Oh my word had the combo platter! It was amazing and huge and delicious 😋
p. f.
Nice friendly, cosy venue. Staff always helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend.
j. r.
Very pleasant Inn with good beers and food
M. G.
I took my 6 year old grandson for lunch here. He chose from the children's menu and thoroughly enjoyed his meal. I chose from the lite bites, nothing lite about these , and was very good. I think we shall be going back on the next school holidays.
L. S.
Lovely service, made us a vegetarian roast lunch with quorn sausages. Nice food, only issue is the tables are a little small. High chairs available too.
M. C.
The staff was very pleasant with prompt servis. The food was beautiful. Would recomend this pub.
S. B.
What a great pub by the canal !
We have our Sunday lunch here after a days fishing and are very well looked after as there are 18 of us to cater for ! The beef dinner was superb ! Also a great selection of beers to quench our thirst and look forward to our next visit ! Cheers !!!
J. B.
We have eaten here a few times. Lovely quaint pub with good home made food and light snacks. Friendly atmosphere.😀Dogs are very welcome they even sell dog treats.🐕. There are picnic tables outside and a fenced area for the safety of children. Also nice area for watching the passing boats on the canal. After your meal you could go for a walk on the town path.
S. S.
Lovely place, great food
P. R.
Good beer and good food
M. C.
Lovely canalside pub. Lots of real ales and a fantastic menu.
p. c.

Very nice interior, only stopped for one drink but the pub was very nice. Would definitely go back if I'm in the area again!
N. H.
Fantastic food been twice now in a row would recommend the lite bites are plenty
W. T.
It was very busy ,our meal took 40mins to arrive but they had told us they were running late ,food was ok but not anything special, mum in law asked for a small rose was told she would be charged for a meduim so she may as well have medium glass is this normal i have never heard this before ?,will probably be a while before we go again .
M. O.
Had a Sunday roast and must say it’s one of the very best I’ve ever had. The beef just melted in the mouth and the staff were pleasant attentive and prompt. We will be back.
O. O.
Always a welcome stop after a walk along the river/canal. Small bar area tho so if you like swinging cats its probably not the place for you. Very popular in the summer and they serve up a cracking breakfast
D. B.
Party of 19 - welcome and service was very good and really appreciated. The food too, was well prepared, presented and value for money. Our Group will certainly visit again.
L. S.
Visited at lunchtime and it was very busy. Took a long time to get served as customers not served in sequence! However, well worth the wait; our lunchtime cobs were excellent and we enjoyed the autumn sunshine outside.
J.
Decent for a drink, however, whilst acceptable pub food and cheap, not the best. Had a burger, bap was cheap, tasted like an extra value multi-pack one, grated cheese smattered on top, unmelted and slightly sad on top of the ok beef burger. If you compared this to the basic whetherspoons burger which comes with a drink, it is much tastier whilst being cheaper
A. L.
Had a lovely lunch, really good food, staff really helpful. Highly recommend.
E.
Friendly and welcoming. We didn't eat but food looked good.
C. M.
Great little place with fast, friendly and professional service and great tasting food. Menu is good and not too complicated and cater for all tastes. The team on today were great
M. J.

J. R.
Great food, great beer, great service, great view from tables outside. Just need more great weather.
A. C.
Very nice traditional pub. A real gem in these times of expensive gastro pubs
D. H.
Deliberately went for lunch and arrived just as the kitchen was closing for the afternoon. Still took our order without complaint which was very nice. Good selection of beers and lagers
M. B. (.
Amazing food, very friendly staff and the view is so picturesque
M. R.
It doesn't look like the best kept pub in Shardlow but external appearances can be deceptive. A welcoming pub that does great pub food, friendly service and outside seating overlooking the canal. Worth a visit.
s. h.
Lovely pub stop on a beautiful canal walk. Friendly staff, excellent service and nice and clean
P. B.
Excellent food in a small traditional pub. Games printed on the tables (draughts, scrabble, monopoly, etc.) kept the kids happy and everything was very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
A. P.

We can walk to the New Inn from our place 10mins walk, we don't drink alcohol, so coffees and tea is our pleasure. The staff are pleasant, and make us comfortable. Thank you staff,,

We drank in 4 other pubs in the village - we would go back to any of the others before this one. But a nice spot by the river. Food looked bland and unappetising 😔
H. L.
Go to this pub whenever we are in the area. Good wholesome food cooked well, big portions, service quick n friendly and we can take our dog, what's not to love :)
