Reviews of The Royal Oak
M. W.
Always lovely welcome from Steve, Jean, Sally and Sue, good beer, food and cater for Gluten Free in both which is very unusual, so thank you and well done , brilliant.
E. C.
Family friendly and fabulous food, service times, portion size and choice were all wonderful
Nothing was too much trouble, will definitely be going again
N. M. B.
Good little village pub, excellent cask beers, staff nice and friendly, also as a function room at the back.
H. M.
The best Sunday lunch I've had in along time, apart from my own of course 😁
Plentiful & very filling & the service was exceptional x
D. H.
Quaint pub with lots of small rooms to eat and drink inside. One of the rooms can be used for functions such as discos or weddings. There is also a seating area outside for drinking and eating but this I feel is part of the carpark. Prices for food and drinks are reasonable and food is delivered quickly. The toilets are, however, outside again near the carpark which is bad in cold wet weather. Staff are nice and friendly. The venue is worth a visit
A. S.
Good selection of ales, friendly knowledgeable staff and decent food. Highly recommended
A. P.
Lovely home made food
Fantastic owners and staff
Affordable and a lovely atmosphere
Y. T.
Gammon was slightly greezy had to send bk for further cooking, mum said her wrap was nice, beef pie nice but really small portion mash and beans nice food but basic and over priced.
C. B.
Fantastic traditional local, family run. CAMRA country pub of the year for years on end. Great home cooked food.
M. S.
Great beer, friendly service in a traditional English pub
J. H.
Wot absolutely old school pub amazing place. Fantastic if you're in to old pub stuff 😀
S. V.
Great traditional pub. A few small rooms and outside area. Very friendly staff. Always a couple of quality real ales. Great tasting food. For Sunday lunch need to book ahead.
C. G.
Great menu choice cope for vegan and vegetarians too..
D. H.
I have been a fan of the Royal Oak for a decade or so. Even when I've lived elsewhere in the country, when back in Ockbrook, I like to go for lunch. The welcome is always warm, the football banter is always entertaining, there is a wide variety of well kept beers and other drinks, and the food is home cooked to perfection. The Royal Oak is a great place to visit.
J. S.
Recently visited great food, very good service and decent beer
T. H.
This is a pub from a different time, run by a family team. Great beer, good food, and lots of old world charm. They also have lots of different events. This is how pubs used to be many decades ago, long may it continue
A. P.
Fabulous food, home cooked and tasty. Lovely old fashioned village pub with great beers too.

A surprising little gem 💎 just off the A52. I spent hours trying to find a place to get Sunday lunch. All of the places barring one we have visited so far have been nice but mediocre especially with a vegitarian family member.
However the Sunday roast here at the Oak was spectacularly good. With all the love you would put in to make a roast at home with that bit extra you expect from a visit out.
Cauliflower cheese would make an exceptional edition to their menu but it was delicious.
The desert was just as yummy. Good job 👏
G. F.
A lovely traditional village pub just as you would expect when privately owned, good food, good selection of beers and good company.

I went last week with some friends for the first time since lockdown. The beer and Stilton cobs were just as good as ever. It was pretty quiet, but hopefully things will pick up soon.
D.
Really nice food, catered for my gluten intolerance really well. Staff were friendly and attentive. Had a great time the only minor issue is that the pork main could have had a bit more veg with it but it was still lovely, would happily come again.
D. O.
Enjoyed a nice pint on a sunny sunday afternoon
R. H.
Has some really nice ales and has a traditional pub feel with snugs for drinking in as well as a more open space for the restaurant.
We recently held our son's christening here and held it in the hall. We were allowed to decorate the hall and music was laid on. We ordered a buffet and there was plenty of food which was reasonably priced and very nice. We had lots of compliments on the day.
There is also a small play area / beer garden out back with excellent views across the fields.
P. B.
50 of us had lunch today, lovely food, really well cooked.
J. P.
Probably our favourite pub, certainly the pub we have visited most in the last 25 years. The Bass is always on and there are usually four or five real ales from which to choose. The food has always been good value but of late there is even more choice and the quality is just fine. Look out for the ox cheek for something out of the ordinary and don't overlook the meat pies. Fish and seafood add more choices and the welcome is always good. Top of the local authority food hygiene ratings too. You can sit outside, under cover or not as you wish and there are two gardens, one for adults and one for children. With the regular events such as quiz nights, concerts and beer festivals this is just what an English country pub should be.

The Royal Oak is a proper old fashioned pub that also supplies excellent food. The atmosphere is warm and cosy, and the seating is comfortable. It is very inviting which is helped by the friendly staff who make customers feel at ease and provide excellent service.
L. C.
Wonderful, traditional pub with real ales, great food, and a lovely warm welcome. Eat or drink outside in the sunshine, or in the cooler, dining area. Good menu with additional specials daily; delicious food. Definitely come again, sooner rather than later.
j. P.

First visit here. Food was really nice. I had homemade pie. Staff very friendly. Prices are good. Tidy but not too modern decor. Homely feel. Ample parking. Main road location.

Lovely pub. Frendly staff. Perfect ale. Geat night out
M. C.
Helpful service, need to reserve tables in advance as it can be very busy. Not as much choice for veggie and vegan offerings but they will do their best to cater for all dietary requirements.
D. B.
Very tasty food, served hot and quick with a gravy boat. (And no onions in the pie a massive plus) Will be back again and again.
A. W.
Excellent traditional pub, with lovely views across the fields, and the steak and ale pie is the best I have had in a while. Well kept beer.
C. B.
Very old hang out ground for me. Went there over 40years ago. Most not changed. But now does food in a new looking area. But the rest is traditional dark snugs. Big car park, friendly owners. Pub has been in the same family for over 50 years.
