A good old school ale pub situated right next to the Derwent. Great selection of beers and a jukebox. What more do you need?

Lovely pub with a marvellous selection of beers on tap. There's only cobs for lunch, but that's fine for helping a beer down. The covered area looking out over the river is a sun trap - great after all the cold winter months

Omg we visited after the Derby match and the place was rammed, 4 deep at the bar. Staff working efficiently and were polite. The Ales were excellent, a good range well kept and well served. We managed to find a seat which goes to show how much was available. The crowd were excellent too, primarily Derby fans in good spirits and very well behaved despite their team having lost. Will definitely be back.

Great Pub! Went to watch a Band called Unforgiven. They are a amazing rock covers band. Real Ales Galore! Clean loo's. Really friendly staff. No food. Bar Snacks and cold cobs.

Called in before going to watch Derby County - excellent choice of real ales and nice outside seating area by the river (should have stayed in there for the afternoon as Derby lost 3 - 1)

Great traditional pub, excellent range of real/cask beers and four craft keg beers plus a selection wine/spirits/lagers and soft drinks. Free cheese night on Thursdays, live music including acoustic nights, BBQ during the summer months, sausage Sunday, fresh made cobs and a superb beer festival in the summer. Warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the jukebox has a massive catalogue of songs and there's a nice beer garden overlooking the river that's part covered so still useable during the winter. A little out of the way but worth the walk from the city centre.

The Smithfield pub in Derby has undergone a much.needed makeover in recent years and was recently voted Derby Camra's Pub of the Year for 2018. While it is a nice, friendly pub, I still wouldn't rate it as highly as my Derby favourite, The Flowerpot or the cozy, nearby Exeter Arms. The Smithfield is located a bit off the beaten track, a little outside the city centre, by the river Derwent (there's limited outside seating): If you don't know it's there, it's unlikely you'd discover by it accidentally. Even after the renovation, the decor isn't much to write home about, but the real ale range is good, and the beers we tried were all kept fresh. Staff are nice, too. Still, something less than meets the eye.

Superb pub on the edge of an industrial estate in Derby. Easy walk from the Brunswick and Alex across the park. About 10 - 15 mins depending on thirst! Excellent range of well kept beers. Well worth a visit. Easy walk to the Premier Inn Cathedral Quarter via The Exeter too.

Always a great choice of ales and in less controlled times plenty of live music too on the fantastic patio/outdoor area. Visited here on a hot day, so they were really busy. We had to wait a while to get served at the bar. They have an excellent selection of drinks. We had real ales which were really well kept and delicious. We sat in their riverside beer garden which was lively! We enjoyed the time we spent here.

There are a variety of wonderful ales to try and a beer garden overlooking the river with good views. The beer garden did feel a little close quarters for our liking though. Dogs were allowed in the outside areas and they would even supply water for them. It was a very enjoyable visit. Staff are very friendly.

You couldn't give the Smithfield anything less than 5 stars. The selection of beer is superb and lots to choose from. Plenty of lagers, coders and spirits if that's your thing. It's clean and comfortable inside. If it's a good day go out in the beer garden. A lovely sun trap with views of the river

Brilliantly friendly staff, great beer and got atmosphere. Bar snacks only, but all the snacks your pub goer is little to need accounted for. Live music sometimes too. Plus they have been taking Covid seriously for longer than the government have; they had a QR code you could scan to say you'd been here before the NHS app (finally) came about.

Really nice riverside pub in Derby. It's a bit hard to find but close to the main bus depot and also the former local paper offices. Great for real ales but also does food with an especially nice roast on Sundays. Highly recommend the outdoor seating areas for a quiet pint watching the river go by.

A hidden gem in the city that is slightly off the beaten track. The beer garden is a fine place to have a beer in the sunshine and the selection of beers available is always great to browse. I often come across an interesting craft ale or two in here.

Excellent pub. Choice of 5 different real ciders and about 9 different ales. They don't do food all the time, so check if they are before you go if you're hungry! We happened to be there for your choice of 3 sausages (from a huge selection) in a giant Yorkshire with gravy, mash and peas for £6 for Sunday lunch. Amazing!

Enjoyable relaxed atmosphere with a choice of 8 real ales. Unfortunately, another pub that only gives CAMRA discount on a single pint only when you buy a round. One day , I will visit a bar 4 times and buy 4 single pints thus obtaining discount on all. Thursday night at the Smithfield is "cheese night" and a fine spread of cheeses and accompaniments is made available to the clientele. I shall visit again.

This is an increasingly popular public house. Attractively situated by the River Derwent, on the edge of Derby city centre, The Smithfield is an excellent place to have a drink on a sunny afternoon. It serves an eclectic choice of well kept cask ales as well as a number of interesting craft beers on tap. The staff are friendly and well informed beer lovers who are happy to serves tasters of any of the beers on offer.
