Always go to The Thomas Leaper before a busy day ahead. Great prices with it being a Weatherspoons. A lot quieter and nicer than next door (The Standing Order). There is seating downstairs and upstairs so plenty of room. Breakfast is always hot, toast could have done with more cooking as it was only toasted on one size but it was still nice. A lot of vegetarian options on Breakfast menu and main menu. They messed up our order a little bit at the start as I didn't want beans and instead wanted extra toast and instead they took/added that to my partner's instead. However within 5 minutes they had brought me a new breakfast out which is great to have a fast turn around. Clean tables, clean floor and toilets were clean too. A great Weatherspoons!

Service was fast, and food and drinks to a decent standard. However the Halloumi fries we ordered for £4.15 only had about 4 fries in. Apart from that everything else is great! Pub not too busy at all!

When the standing order is too busy, this is always a great place to go too and still a wetherspoons so great affordable prices. Staff are really friendly and a good atmosphere. Music on both floors but a bit quieter upstairs for those that want it.

Thankfully, I was only visiting this Wetherspoons establishment for breakfast, as it would have been a big let down had I been drinking, with only one guest ale on offer. The staff were pleasant enough and the food itself was reasonable and well presented. However, the toilets were more representative of 9pm on a busy Saturday night, rather than 9am on a quiet Saturday morning. Before leaving the premises a little after 11am, I revisited the toilets and checked the cleaning rota, which was still showing they hadn't been inspected since opening at 8am!

Quite a cosy "spoons compared to the impressive high ceilings next door Wetherspoons. I had a very good ale, all thanks to the ongoing real ale festival. Upstairs was closed due to a private function. Seems quite odd to have two of the same hospitality brands next to each other, but what do I know? More intimate than next door neighbour, but not as good service.

Paid a visit to The Thomas leaper for lunch and throughly enjoyed the experience. This is a busy Wetherspoons perhaps owing to the fact it’s sister pub The Standing Order is undergoing a complete renovation. Nevertheless I was served my meal by friendly staff. Well worth a visit. I’ve never been upstairs yet. Maybe next time Great value for money and highly recommended.

If you want a good deal... £8.15 for a meal with an alcoholic drink, it's the place to go; however the fish we had, had been cooked, left and then reheated it was very dry and tastless and the batter was very hard to cut. The cookie dough sandwich with ice cream was lovely

Nice atmosphere, not too loud for a casual drink around 6 - 7pm. Lower rating because the men's toilets look poorly maintained. One of the hand dryers doesn't even blow air correctly and the left cubicle has no handle to pull it shut properly, I had to use the snapped coat hook to be able to lock the door, then when I tried to get out the lock was jammed and I had to pull the bottom of the door in so it unlocked. At closer inspection the lock is broken, twisted inside the door by a few degress like it has been forced, couple that with there being little to no phone signal in there you could be trapped for ages if no one was using the toilet / it was close to closing time.

I've always liked this place for food , the portions are about roghy, the burgers are always gpod, I especially like the 'Drive-Thru Burger" with a massive gurkin on it ! , If your going to eat on a weekend evening I suggest upstairs or you will be surrounded by weekend boozers, overall friendly n good service I'm general , also featuring the smallest dancefloor in Derby lol

Wasn't the best weatherspoons pub I've been to, but it's okay if you're going for a quick pint or glass of gin. The weatherspoons next door is said to have a better reputation but they're both run by the same company so it's more just the vibe that was missing. Good for older people to go to have a drink or some food, less so for the teenage years.

One of the few places in town that still treats customers like customers rather than criminals or naughty schoolchildren. Staff leave you to fill the Track n Trace rather than demanding you speak your telephone number out loud, and leave it on a piece of paper on display in the pub, friendly table service. Decent place for a breakfast any day of the week. Compared to the Standing Order next door, the Thomas Leaper is warm and welcoming, despite all the ridiculous rules and regulations. The Standing Order next door is unpleasant, with rude staff and hopefully will close soon, this place is nice and with any luck will still be here next year.

Thomas Leaper is not a bad place to drink. It's even more appreciated when it's freezing outside or it's hammering down with rain. Their glassware is much cleaner than some of the four star hotels around. The prices on their drinks are cheap and great for students like me! The only couple of things I don't favour as much is that there's no beer garden, given the fantastic weather we had lately, and I've had at least two run ins with food orders going wrong, or certain items on the menu have run out. Trivial I know, but I rate the staff. They're hard working, polite and always share a smile. I couldn't fault them in general.

Dark, cheap and cheerful and pretty central. It's a Wetherspoons, so it has a good-value decently sized menu for any appetite. If you don't expect luxury and stunning cuisine then you'll be all fine.

This is a great place. One of the wetherspoons franchise, the quality of the food is the usual high standard. Directly nextdoor to another in the franchise this pub is a little smaller with a more personal feel. Upstairs seems a lot brighter than downstairs where it seems a little dark, but the menu and drink selection are both very good.

I have been to this Wetherspoon Lloyds Bar pub numerous times. Food and drink is generally good with quick service and good staff. I visited on a busy Saturday and drinks service was quick ordering on the app. Also play good music. My only gripe is that the place needs a refurb; stained chairs, grubby carpet etc. Also don’t know how the toilets were awarded platinum as these were filthy.

The Thomas Leaper is one of two JD Wetherspoon pubs on Iron Gate, Derby: In fact, it's right next door (!) from the best JDW in town, The Standing Order. The Thomas Leaper is by no means a bad spoon, all by itself: It's smaller, cozier - and while it's not nearly as stylish as The Standing Order, it's by no means grubby or grimy. Also, the smaller size means that you don't have to stand in line to get a drink till kingdom come [JDW now offers an app-assisted table ordering service, but I haven't tried that yet). The food range in all Spoons is the same anyway, and the "Mixed Grill" I had that night was certainly adequate. Ain't no cheaper way to fill your tummy in town, even though it's not restaurant quality, of course. Cheap food and drinks are the raison d'ètre of JDW, and if you're not in the mood for huge crowds, visit The Thomas Leaper. Recommended.

I travel all over the UK and as such I always head for Wetherspoon's, BUT one member of staff with a very angry attitude (young man)... needs to learn to be more work orientated... when I ask for a menu, I don't expect to be ignored and then have to walk behind said young angry gent until he tries to vanish round the bar ! Then tried to say he had not heard me, half the bloody bar heard me shout after him. Food average
