Reviews of Eagle & Child Inn
C. C.
Eagle and Child in Auckley is a nice pub mainly serving good quality food.
Plenty of selection from the menu and daily specials on the boards inside.
It's not you usual pub grub, more a restaurant inside a pub.
Booking a reservation is recommended during peak times.
The decor is old world style, clean and comfortable.
Staff are pleasant polite and smart in appearance.
On my visit I ordered the Eagle Grill at under £20 requesting the steak to be cooked medium.
It arrived in around 20mins, steak, chicken, gammon and sausages were all cooked to perfection.
Condiments brought to the table came in individual pots which could be a concern for the eco friendly due to the waste if unused and extra cleaning required, although individual pre packages could make the venue appear more cafe than quality.
WiFi is available but you need to ask for the password, you will need this. I'm not sure if the area is a poor quality reception or because the walls to the pub are so thick it causes a signal problem.
It's close to Doncaster Airport and the wildlife park and the neighbouring village Austerfield which was home to some of the original settlers of America who travelled on the Mayflower.
If this review was informative enough for you give it a thumbs up for others.

Lovely old pub lots of charming character. Staff very friendly and chatting with all the regular customers. Meals are value for money especially the lightbites menu. Only issue we had was the small tables were a squeeze to get three around. Will definitely be returning soon.

We were a party of 6, popped in on the off chance of having an evening meal. The staff were very welcoming and accommodated us. The food was delicious and served promptly, portion sizes were quite generous and all were enjoyed. Will definitely make this a place to return to.

Stopped by for a drink and a snack before heading to the airport, staff were lovely and chatty, onions rings were worth a return flight! Really nice vibe and others' food looked amazing. Good selection of varying drinks too. Will be back next time we're at the airport for sure.

Picked this pub for an early dinner as it was 15 minute walk from the Yorkshire wildlife park and all the onsite restaurants were fully booked. Pub had a good menu choice, that all 7 of us were happy with and the flexibility with changing chips to jacket potato was an option that put a smile on my face.
Staff were friendly and helpful, would visit again.

Visited many times as i am local. The staff are incredible, always have a great experience from Liz and Owen in particular, the food is first class and not too pricey, the drinks are standard prices and the pub itself is great for seating, there is a separate sit down dinner table area that requires reservation in the summer the outdoor area is the place to be with plenty of outdoor seating, outdoor patio heaters and a childerens park. There is plenty of parking and a great atmosphere

Telephoned on Sunday afternoon to enquire about food availability.
Courteously informed to go before 6pm although Sunday lunch may be finished.
Arrived at 5.30, welcomed and shown to a table straight away.
Excellent pint of Barnsley Bitter, tasty and very well kept.
Quite an extensive menu considering teatime. Ordered jacket potato, cheese & coleslaw, cheese & broccoli bake for the ladies also gammon & pineapple for me.
Meals served after about 10 minutes.
Very large jacket, a mountain of cheese & salad. Piping hot bake, salad and freshly toasted garlic bread. Gammon easily filled half my plate, also served with REAL freshly cooked chunky chips, not frozen or French fries, proper chips, all freshly cooked and piping hot..
Varied sweet menu on the blackboard however what we had was easily plenty, to have a sweet might have been greedy - maybe next time?
A well deserved 5 stars for excellent service, food and welcome.
Wouldn't hesitate to go back - soon.
