Reviews of The Boat Inn

This establishment is very high end and well worth a visit for a meal or afternoon tea or simply a pint of cold beer.
Very big pub with outside seating both back and front.
Disabled friendly toilets on ground floor very accessible to all and everyone.
The price of a small coke is £3.50 with I found to be a little expensive.
The food is amazing and well done and tasty.
It is situated on the banks fo a river so it is in a amazing location with good guaranteed parking.
I fully endorse this establishment well worth a visit

Visited here during the week late afternoon. It's my first visit here & I loved it. Our waitress Josie was so lovely & attentive nothing was too much trouble, she is a credit to the establishment. The food was amazing very tasty & fresh. We will definately be making a return visit soon. Highly recommend x

Lovely little pub located at the bottom of a small valley next to a canal.
Food was absolutely lovely, drinks the same.
Very large court yard perfect for those ice cold drinks on a hot summers day.
Spacious car park with disabled parking.

Always a pleasure to visit. Staff are friendly and helpful and always welcoming. Good humour and efficient service from everyone, can’t pick just one person . Amazing food . Will definitely be back !
S. E.
Good service and nice ambience. Dog friendly. Unfortunately no view of, or access to, the canal from the pub, although it's only a short walk to get onto the tow path. The pizza was good, but you would need to also order a side to make it a meal really so not great value for money.

Not been for at least 10 years and can't believe what I've been missing out on! Went for the lunch menu, shared a lamb koftas to start and oh my god it was amazing! The kebabs were lovely and juicy, and the watermelon and tzatziki were just a next level accompaniment!! For main had a beef brisket sarnie, he had chicken with crushed advocado sarnie, they too were amazing! Had banoffe pie for pud, very nice but missing a bit of cream lol. The service was good and fast, just the way we like it. Will definitely be returning, soon! 😍😍

Push “The Boat” out with a vegan Sunday dinner …
Ordered the Vegan Candied Vegetable Roast for £14.75 which came with a plentiful scattering of pumpkin seeds on top of a splodge of tomato sauce. Ordering on the App but took 45 mins from ordering to delivery and came with vegan roast potatoes, carrots, parsnip, broccoli and a small jug of gravy. Needed an additional jug of gravy which was free so add it regardless, otherwise it’s another wait. The roast tasted bloody amazing. Having tried vegan roasts in so many places it was nice to get something which wasn’t a mush or overly sweet. The vegetables were nice and it’s great to seen them making and effort with vegan roast potatoes. On the whole it was a smashing Sunday lunch.
Also ordered a Vegan Squashage and Mushroom Roll £6.75, with garden vegetables £2.75 and vegetarian spring onion mash £2.50. For £12 it was a great dinner and It’s tasted really nice.

Lovely meal, it's a treat for sure. Meals around £13 - -£15 but you can tell it's been made with passion. True authentic pub meal. Also had their lunch which was super filling for £8. I signed up to their email news letter and was given an instant free dessert coupon. A week later I got a 40% off coupon. Staff are really lovely and really went the extra mile. I recommend going for a walk around and end up having a few bevies and a meal here.
M. S.
Made a last minute decision to have Sunday lunch and Owen found us a table whilst Hollie got us our drinks, once seated Heidi took our orders and pre earned us on the slight wait on food. It was no longer than 30 mins as warned. I had pork and my partner had beef, little girl decided on pasta with fries and veg sticks. We all enjoyed it and left veryfull.
P. B.
Lovely place.
Forst walk in - sounds noisy but in dining room is quite different and lovely fireplace with real 🔥🔥🔥
Food was amazing, Really busy but quite quick service on table for 3.
Lovely coffe and burgers.
We will come for more.
L. B.
Lovely pub by the River Don. The service was excellent and the food was very tasty. We'll definitely be back soon and plan to visit in the warmer months to take advantage of the lovely garden and courtyard.

Absolutely beautiful venue. The food was spectacular and the staff went above and beyond. I definitely recommend The Boat Inn for anyone looking for somewhere to go with family and friends. The finishing touch was the beautiful happy birthday message on my partners pudding. Thank you to all the staff involved for this wonderful night
A. J. B.
What a fantastic night. When we landed we were told there was a very limited menu as the gas had gone off. No matter, what we did have food wise was superb. However even better were the staff. We had a laugh all night, and a special shout out goes to Kelsey, our waitress who embodied what professional customer service should look like, she did her job well, but engaged with the jokes and certainly out bantered one of our group!! Who was taking some bosh for drinking Rosé wine.... The Stella labels were hilarious!! Bravo!!
Boat Inn management please give Kelsey a Christmas bonus... She deserves it!! We will be back...

I have to say we were a bit disappointed with our meal. The burger bun was toasted and the burger was dry, chips overdone. Mine was the beef bourguignon which was dry around the edges. The rest was ok. It's a shame as it was a return visit for us since they closed.
The staff were fantastic though.

The food was really great, especially the new items on the menu which went down very well.
I loved the beef rib and my nephew enjoyed the lamb koftas. Also the Black Forest Flower Pot was incredible! Looked amazing and tasted so good! My Mum has a smaller appetite these days so we requested a child’s portion of fish and chips. Nothing was too much trouble and all our needs were accommodated during the evening. Service was excellent and timings of food being served were perfectly acceptable on a Saturday evening. We dine at The Boat often and are never disappointed.

It is a lovely place and well worth a visit (or two) but going for Sunday lunch was a bit of a negative experience. The waiting for food was quite long, booked in for 1400 and did not get our starter until 50 minutes later, then lunch itself was a further 30 minutes.
The food when it came was really good and worth every penny. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. We will be going again but will be booking an earlier sitting!
Thank you.
P. C.
Amazing meal staff members Mick and holly went above and beyond to accommodate us for food. We were seated quickly and efficiently and our order taken promptly. We never had an empty glass as staff ensured drinks orders where kept on top of. Mick who was evidently in a position of responsibility was often seen assisting his staff on the floor by clearing plates and even taking orders wish I could give 10 stars. Will definitely recommend
J. H.
Lovely courtyard for a sunny day lunch Dog friendly but didn't treat my own to the experience. Lovely food, decent prices and great service. What more could you want. Next time I'm going to sample the scenery and have a nearby walk too.
J. B.
Food was excellent and worth the little extra you pay compared to standard pub food. Deducted one star as I placed an order on the app which was forgotten about, took 15 minutes for three drinks to arrive but the staff were polite and friendly. Great atmosphere but I would seriously dissuade customers from using the app to order. Other than that slight issue food and service was excellent
M. B.
The staff were lovely and although it was extremely busy were spot on. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is the meat portions on the 3 meat Sunday dinner were to say the least a bit mean. I expected as it was more expensive that my girlfriends pork belly option I would have reasonable portions but one thin slice of turkey, a laser cut (it was genuinely that thin) slice of beef and a much smaller portion of belly pork than my partner received was more than a tad disappointing. I certainly wouldn't order it again despite it all being well cooked and tasty. As a result we decided to skip dessert.
A. G. D.
Great Sunday lunch outing. The staff were extremely attentive. Hollie was very friendly and the food was delicious. Great value for money. We all want to come back soon but bring the dog along.
C. T.
We had a previous poor experience here last year & hadn't tried it again until yesterday. Much improved with a full menu available and pleasant, welcoming staff. A lovely lunch was enjoyed by both my husband and I.
W. M.
Be prepared when going here by taking snacks, nibbles for the extra long wait for your food after placing an order . Our Table of four waited 50 mins from ordering to actually seeing any food and this was on a very quiet night of four/five tables being served in our two and half hr visit.I wouldn't like to go when busy that's for sure.At one point one waitress came and said " did you enjoy your meals" ?
The answer of We ain't seen any food yet never mind eaten anything was met with no surprise. On the food it was nice when it came but the hunger pangs meant it could have been below average and it still would have been eaten . Be aware !
D. B.
We arrived here after a long hellish journey on the A1. We were looking for somewhere to get out of the crawling traffic. We came off at junction 36 & looked for somewhere to go for something to eat & to wait until the traffic had gone. It was an amazing surprise - a beautiful place, right by the river Don. They made room for us as they were very busy on a Friday night& we got a table for two. The staff were most attentive & the food well presented. The Inn has been refurbished & looked amazing. Well done all of you for looking after two old weary travellers. It is only 1.5 miles from the junction too.
L. P.
Sat in the courtyard in the sunshine and it was like being on holiday. Nice atmosphere. Ordered food, went inside to eat. It came when we were told it would. Delicious, well cooked and nicely presented. Definitely a revisit needed.
D. S.
Had a great meal, staff very accommodating as I'd booked for 4 and they managed to squeeze an extra person on last minute so thanks for that! Dog friendly too which ties in nicely with a walk down the river to build up the appetite.
n. k.
Lovely food, service fantastic, great atmosphere and a good place to Moor our boat and have a lovely meal A+++
T. D.
I had the most wonderful pizza at this place. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Sadly the only negative critique I have to say is that we sat outside. Where there were numerous people smoking and constantly swearing. The swearing wasn't too bad however there were also young children outside, but what was awful was the smell of smoke. I would prefer that there was a designated smoking area where both smokers could enjoy their disgusting cigarettes and where people that wish to enjoy their food outside can do so without the poisonous fumes floating around our food and lungs.
A. Q.
I absolutely love visiting this place. The decor is beautiful, the drink choices are abundant, the food is delicious. There's no better way to spend a summer afternoon than relaxing in the beer garden of this beautiful pub.
D. M.
We were greeted by a very pleasant smiley helpful young lady. She actually listened to everything we said rather than just rush us through. She was consistent throughout our meal which made everything good
B. G.
Visited on a Friday evening. When my sister tried to book a table for 10 people, we were told they could not take a booking for that many. So we split the booking (4 & 6 people) & were put on 2 tables next to each other!!! All our food orders were taken at the same time, and brought out together, so not sure what the problem was with booking!
Food was okay - lasagne was fine, but chips that a few people had were not well cooked.
However, my sister stopped in campervan on premises without any problems and enjoyed a good breakfast in the pub the next morning.
S. B. T.
We had lunch outdoors in the lovely courtyard they have. Food was good and personnel were very friendly. Would recommend. Dogs allowed.
P. W.
We used the Boat Inn as a stopover in our Motorhome journey down south and what a bonus it turned out to be! A brilliant pub by the Sheffield to Google canal. It’s a beautiful old building with gorgeous outside seating, really good food a a fine pint of Taylor’s Landlord beer. Highly recommended!
N. B.
Reasonable quality and quantity of food, reasonable selection of beers etc and reasonable (do you get the picture yet) prices. Not great, not exciting, not super, just ok. Probably wont bother again. Nice staff.
I. S.
The Boat Inn has had more than its share of bad luck. 2 extremely bad floods that destroyed everything then just as they were about to open after months of restoration and renovation work COVID hit. Regardless of this they battled through and are now open for business again, at last! The Boat Inn is a beautiful old place in an amazing setting at Sprotborough falls on the river Don. Its rustical & peaceful the table service is great, the food delicious and the prices fair. You can sit inside or outside both areas have their charm. We've never been disappointed when visiting so I would recommend it to everyone.
C. C.
Amazing lunch here today! There were six of us, served quickly by Sarah and Mel. They were attentive but not intrusive throughout. Will definitely be back!
S.
We visited Monday night ,reasonably busy outside but inside not many dinners, I booked in advance for a table for two 8pm
The staff were polite and friendly. We ordered starter and main course. One drink each and the bill was just short of £70
Which I wouldn't have minded but the starter too just under an hour to arrive and the portion sizes ridiculous small for the cost. The starter was thoe the best as the main wasn't anything special considering we both ordered steak. Mine was grizzly and fatty had to take a few pieces back out of my mouth not what you would expect for the cost also it was supposed to be tripple cooked chips but in all honesty they didn't taste like they were so again disappointed.
I decided not to say anything as it was late and the staff were polite just a shame the meal wasn't anything special for the price, maybe we were just unlucky with the steak . I do understand your paying for the location too but that said we sat inside as outside was busy.
Overall I wouldn't rush back there are other restaurants lower cost or same cost with better food and portion sizes. The drinks were very expensive I think mine was just short of £7 .
The pub decor and staff are nice but for a £70+ meal on a Monday evening sadly not something we are in hurry to repeat.
M. C.
Very nice place (at least from the outside as I didn't go in) nice court yard with lots of seating and great on a sunny day like when I was there. Nice pint of Doombar shandy, but a little on the pricey side at £7.80 for two pints of shandy.
A. W.
Food was reasonable although slightly pricey. Lovely location and an idyllic little spot in the courtyard.
Nature reserve close by is perfect for a walk, cycle or a spot of bird watching.
A. S.
The pub is set in a beautiful location
Has plenty of out door seating in courtyard setting, the staff are very friendly, the food however let's the place down
I visited with my husband and two friends, one of my friends had the burger which he said was good, my husband had the fish and chip meal he said the fish was dry and the batter was on the soggy side, I had the fishcakes they were over cooked, my other friend had the sea bass which she asked to be poached due to allergies, she was told it couldn't be poached as it would disintegrate, the chef said he would bake it in the oven, however when it came it was crispy and greasy my friend told the waitress, she went to see the chef and returned saying it was the natural oils in the fish, because she has severe allergies to oil she didn't eat it
C. Y.
Had a lovely family meal and I highly recommend the boat inn, lovely welcoming staff and maddy looked after us and was very attentive and nothing was to much trouble. Even though it was quite busy food was delicious and well presented and delivered to the table promptly.
L. E.
Brilliant staff, location & good beer.
But I have some constructive criticism because it could be better.
Lasagna was 3/10, greasy and disgusting. I was hungry so I ate it all then felt ill all day after. Wouldn't recommend it.
The soup was 6/10, abit bland. But didn't make me feel ill.
You guys could learn alot from the Hind in Rotherham on your pricing & food quality. My advice for the owner is have a meal there.
Love
Lucas your friendly local reviewer.
K. G.
Lovely place, unfortunately doesn't really cater for vegans. Had a nice vegan burger but couldn't even have chips or any other side dish. Also, extremely expensive the dish in the photo cost us £13!!!
c. w.
Had a family meal here today, have to say the waitress (I never got her name ) is a credit to you, really made me feel special and looked after all my family , she made my birthday cake look lovely, our meal was delicious, enjoyed everything we had 👍😊 thank you boat inn
V. B.
We had dinner and stayed overnight in our campervan. The staff and food were amazing and the carpark peaceful. We were going to a concert in the area and this was perfect for us. We will highly recommend
L. G.
Had an excellent meal and the staff were fantastic...very busy and dog friendly in specified area. We'll worth a visit 👍
A. S.
Wonderful experience, came last week, didn’t have a booking but luckily Heidi was prompt to sit us down, and swiftly took our drink and food order. Excellent.
B. C.
We had a lovely turkey Sunday roast lunch with a bottle of wine, we hadn’t been to The Boat Inn for a few years so we were very pleasantly surprised by the refurbishment, the staff were very pleasant, overall it was a lovely experience
R. L.
This is only the 2nd time we have visited the Boat Inn , and we absolutely love it , the staff are so friendly , and my dogs dined from the Doggy menu too , great pub with a fantastic courtyard , and to cap it off a nice walk along the river to wear lunch off .
J. N.
Starters look small when you put them on large plates! Low point - the scallop starter whcih actually was small. High point - the beef casserole, which was basically perfect.
j. b.
We stayed overnight in our motorhome, the place and surroundings are beautiful, staff very friendly, we had delicious food, the best pork belly ever. Would highly recommended .
g. m. (.
Loved it. The pub has old world charm and is a lovely building on the banks of the River Don (not overlooking it by the way) with a courtyard outside seating area. The staff were friendly and our food was superb before our walk on the riverbank. I should have took better photos especially of our meals which we had already started, and my lasagna was probably the best i've ever had....but they are the best i've got for now. Such a shame we are not more local.
R. H.
All The staff were obviously busy yet remained very cheerful and friendly. The food was excellent and the service very good
G. A.
Great place, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff (Louis in particular) and excellent food. Had a gorgeous Sunday roast dinner! Followed by a delicious vanilla cheesecake. Will be sure to visit again.
I really pushed the boat out at the
Boat Inn 😄😄
M. W.
We had Sunday lunch, the trio of meats, beef, pork and turkey. Everything was very well cooked and there was plenty of it (glad we didn't order starters!). Fresh veg and probably the best turkey I've ever eaten. Very comfortable surroundings and good service. Can't fault anything. The outside area looks great, we will come back in the summer.
D. B.
A real, traditional country pub. Great bar staff. Lovely cosy ambience.
S. C.
Good selection of premium largers but disappointing the only cask on were Doom bar and black sheep, considering its proximity to a number of local breweries you would think they would offer a better selection and also only had 1 keg IPA another Sharps beer . The team were friendly but seemed to congregate and chat which is absolutely fine it wasn't particularly busy and it was shift change time but didn't give the best of impressions. There were a few minor decorative issues in high traffic areas that need addressing IE the pillar at the end of the bar where the paint has rubbed back to plaster and a similar thing on the walls behind the chairs opposite the bar. It was however a pleasant experience overall and the team were all very friendly and I was impressed by the selection of Spirits on offer.
J.
Really nice atmosphere. We sat down but was told there was no more food orders due to staff shortages
N. P.
Very friendly and warm atmosphere with polite friendly and helpful staff. Food was really tasty and recommended. Camera operated car park for security and you enter your registration on entry. Fantastic place by the canal with years and years of history. Looking forwards to summer with ice creams and sunny nights there.
B. G.
Had a lovely meal down at the boat inn today with my newborn. Lovely and accessible for a family with pushchair or pram. Staff were amazing especially Jessica she was so polite and knew how to serve with a smile, valuable part of the team!
R. W.
Great service, very professional. The Sunday roasts were exceptional, and drinks went down well. We sat in the Sunny Easter Sunday sun in the spacious courtyard after enjoying our meal. We noticed that all age groups use this establishment.
S. E.
Found traveling up north, its less than 10 mins off M18 / A1(M). Lovely setting on the river Don, not a large choice of real ales, but what was on, was good. 5 stars though for atmosphere, service and really tasty food, will call again if that way.
J. H.
Stunning location full of character very tasteful menu amazing produce aswell this was a starter and was first class I would give 5 star if they had more parking that is my only criticism recommend the wines aswell
C. H.
Very nice spacious rooms with plenty of space at your tables.
Good choice of drinks
D. W.
Lovely location great outside area on a sunny day. Food is very nice but they meals not panini pub snack type food so expect to pay £10 each plus
I. Y.
Lovely meal, lovely pub. Never disappoints. Only 4* as there was 45 minute wait for food even though we had a reservation.
D. B.
Location good - long wait for food but was very busy. Chose to eat elsewhere. Drinks at high end pricing but still popular.
T. S.
Had a lovely meal and drinks but very dissapointed at receiving a fine for £85 for parking which we were not aware you had to give staff your registration number. They did sort it so all good.
R. H.
What a wonderful place this is. Perfect for dog walkers, cyclists, walkers , & chilling . What does annoy me is how many dirty glasses & pot's are left around the tables. I mean why can't someone bringing out food take dirty plates back with them but a lovely place.
l. f.
Staff very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We did have a problem with our food which was addressed and rectified straight away, without question. The meal was delicious.
K. H.
Lovely pub and a great walk down the canal, our dog loved it too 😀
D. M.
This was a family event (6 of us) and for a Birthday. Well received, seated at the requested table. We were waited on by Jess (introduced herself) and she provided us all with excellent service throughout. Food was to everyone's liking and there was a nice touch with Happy Birthday writen on the plate of our Grandson's dessert!
Based on this visit, there's nothing we'd suggest you improve on
L. D.
Absolutely stunning pub in a beautiful location everything was perfect staff were very helpful and quick but most of all friendly with great service there is nothing that springs to mind that I think could be improved
M. Y.
Had dinner here last night, food was great quality and reasonably priced. The setting of the place is really beautiful, will definitely visit again!
P. P.
Excellent food, great staff, nice atmosphere, really enjoyed spending a couple of hours here in the sunshine.
j. b.
Waited an hour for food even though table booked. Roast dinner was mediocre and lukewarm. Not value for money. Staff really nice and nice atmosphere.
B. P.
Such a warm and inviting space, not to mention the staff were lovely and couldnt do enough for us. Also love that it is dog friendly, we will definitely be returning with our dogs.
K. B.
Excellent food, the best chips I've had with a meal that I can remember. Friendly staff, had to call them over for service a few times. (Realise it's difficult for them having to to table service due to covid rules)
C. T.
Beautiful food, calm atmosphere. The children's menu was excellent too, and the staff kindly attentive.
C. B. P. 1.
wow a member of staff called danni I asked can someone take my order please she said nope you have to go in I’ve come on a handcycle everyday I’m paralysed so I don’t bring my wheelchair I’ve asked her before she was ok with it this time not so, it’s not many people ask for table service but being paralysed and not bringing my wheelchair I can’t get inside, so glad all other staff are nice and welcoming at the boat Inn and they will help anyone in anyway
B. B.
We'd booked a lunch, but the weather wasn't as forecast, had coffees as we arrived, then had a walk around, meal was booked for 15.30, by 14.00 we was a tad wet so asked if we could have our table early, wasn't a problem.
D. C.
Lovely pub. Excellent roast dinner. Fantastic location at side of to the river Don.
Visited again in 2021. Wonderful as normal. Would highly recommend.
m. 1.
Sat outside as a. It was nice and b. It was busy due to it being fathers day. Bit disappointed how much a lime and soda is, but nice seating area.
R. C.
Food was delish! I had an 8oz sirloin steak and it really was tasty. Then I had a warm brownie with ice cream 👌
t. h.
After all the flood damage, what lovely place to be, inside and out , meal quality is good and a good selection of draught beers, staff very polite, will be back.
K. S.
My partner and I paid a visit to The Boat Inn today as we were in the area viewing houses and it was one of the nicest pub meals we've ever experienced.
The ambiance and aesthetic was perfect and the staff were friendly and super helpful.
What's more was the incredible value for money; a starter, two mains, three sides to share, two drinks each and a dessert only cost us £55 and the food was worth far more than that in our opinion.
Even if we don't end up moving to the area we will definitely make the journey back here just to eat here again..
K. T.
First visit here and was very pleased with the service, the food, the quality and the price. Will be making a return visit.
K. H.
Good food, lovely surroundings, friendly service, beautiful setting along river
C. W.
On the day of my visit I had started work at 0100 and finished at 1130. As The Boat Inn was close by I got changed and called for a relaxing beer. As usual friendly staff. Nice pint of Real Ale. The place was as always well kept. Wonderful to relax in that Courtyard which personally always reminds me of a place in Italy :)
S. R.
The Boat has a lovely atmosphere in a great location and the staff were really helpful.
Most of our food was very tasty but the prawn cocktail with crab and avocado didn’t have any crab or avocado (!). I didn’t speak out earlier enough but I shouldn’t have had to. It was pretty obvious straight away to the waiting staff so it made me wonder if this is a regular tactic.
J. H.
We eat at the Boat inn on a regular basis, always nice food , good service , friendly staff!
t. T.
Just called in for a quick pint! Seems like a nice place...
A. B.
Really lovely place n a great setting! Beautiful river, gorgeous little woods and yummy food with a friend! Definitely a winner! Good on the budget too! Would definitely go back for seconds!!!
J. W.
Visited on Saturday for a valentine's menu meal 3 course special meal . I ordered a 10 oz ribeye steak. Which was very nice and tender melted in the mouth.. with button. Mushrooms with garlic sauce and cheese to start.. my girlfriend had belly pork with black pudding mash which was gorgeous. With great table service.. a bit on the expensive side.as each item came with add-on's which should have been really part of the price..... I would have given it a 5-star.but 5-minutes after we sat down.. there were dogs fighting at the table next to us which I'm really surprised at why would dogs be allowed to be where you are eating food. Surely that is unhygienic... Maybe it's something I think they should be thinking about. As it is a place where people go to have a quiet meal.. apart from that it's a great place and will probably be back in the summer
L. M.
Great food, great service.
Such a lovely pub and atmosphere!
M. S.
Food was lovely. Vintage Inn's are always a nice place for lunch.
Please be aware of the parking restrictions on site and enter you car registration at the bar when you enter. Staff were, to their credit very quick to get my parking ticket cancelled as I didn't know I had to do this.
J. P.
As usual a warm friendly welcome. Fantastic food, chicken schnitzel highly recommend! Nice pint of Ale WE WILL BE BACK!!
C. C.
Beautiful place; beautiful food ; lots of dogs and a walk along the river afterwards. Fantastic !!
A. A.
Been coming to the boat even before it was rebuilt… old farm ruins. Tonight Food was decent enough quality wise- standard chain food. Portion size related to cost was way overpriced. Joe delivered pleasant service- thanks Joe. Calamari way over salted even for salt and pepper calamari.
Large New Zealand Sauv £8.85 per glass… no words and would not have bought it if I’d known. Should I have checked? Never thought I’d be paying nearly full bottle price for a glass. Food good, service swift and cheerful/ helpful but way over priced for standard food. Sorry but not acceptable
K. G.
The food and atmosphere were very good. No complaints.
L. B.
Lovely pub in great location but expected better quality food. Bit of a let down in that department
N. Y.
Has a superb night here, very welcoming staff and great food and ambiance. Joshua was very attentive making sure that everything was to our satisfaction, so I would have no hesitation in recommending The Boat Inn.
C. E.
This pub has a lovely warm friendly atmosphere. We were made very welcome by the staff. The service was excellent and the food hot, tasty and well presented. However for other family members the menu was very limited and though I personally would happily go again I would not go as a family group which is a great shame.
T. J. (.
Great location. Food was great. It took a while as they were busy. But well worth the wait for it.
S. M.
Great location lovely food and really friendly for dogs.
A. W.
Lovely food, attentive (but not annoyingly so) waiter/waitress, nice decor, reasonable prices, ample free parking (you have to register your reg number) facilities clean and well appointed. Definite return planned.
G. M.
Lovely stone building , quality food , v close to the canal and river Don
C. J.
Lovely food and excellent service. Nice atmosphere and surroundings.
P. B.
On line booking easy. Lovely bar area, friendly helpful staff. Helped with booking in car and ushered to table. Lovely atmosphere, excellent choice of beers and wines. Attentive service from waiting staff but not intrusive. Good choices on menu and food was excellent: well prepared, well presented and tastey. Highly recommended.
R. H.
Really friendly team. Lovely location. Really enjoyed it. Food waa amazing and really good value. Thank you.
S. G.
Went to the boat Inn on Sunday I had a realy enjoyable afternoon at the boat in the food was realy lovley and I enjoyed it very much. Hats off to the chiefs all the staff were friendly and helpful and not badly priced.
C. K.
Great food, great place and our waitress Jade was amazing
E. C.
Nice pub. Food and drink are good. But, we had to wait a looooooooooong time for service.
S. R.
Lovely service lovely food will come again
J. E.
We stayed the night in our motor home and enjoyed a lovely meal with a few drinks
D. B.
Stopped off for a drink and sat in beer garden the weather was lovely. Quick service. Next time we will come for food. As everyones looked lovely.
T. W.
Beautiful spot staff brilliant very attentive and the food was to die for. Would highly recommend
D. c.
Friendly Staff, great food can’t wait to go again
E. H.
Lovely service, great food. Had a Sunday roast very nice
L. D.
Good food and good customer service from the staff who served us.
J. T.
Lovely pub located next to a canal. The bar has a wide range of drinks available and the menu has ample food choices. Outdoor seating is available in a court yard at the front of the building.
E. M.
Went on Sunday, fabulous service. Food was amazing. Definitely be back again!
C. H.
Never been before. Just booked on a whim. No issues with getting a table, we requested outside in a large courtyard, because we had a dog with us. They are a dog friendly pub both inside and out. We all chose to have Sunday dinner. The portions were great and the food delicious. Great value for mone. Will definitely go back. I would class it as a hidden gem right by the river. Lovely.
K. S.
Lovely food, friendly staff and activity provided for 3 year old.
I. S.
Amazing place, absolutely beautiful, very welcoming, will be a regular visitor
H. W.
Great place for meals. Love the dog friendly atmosphere. Polite and good service. Good quality food. Overall very satisfied and would recommend.
C. B.
Welcoming a friendly staff and nice environment. Food was lovely
P. N.
Although the menu is a little limited, the quality of the food, drinks, deserts and service is exceptional. A bit quirky with the decor, could do with better suited tables and chairs. Still love the place.
r. s.
Great place to eat and glad to see this place open again, however if you just pop in for a quick drink or a pint - there's limited seating as the majority is reserved for the restaurant customers. That said the bar team did there best to find us seating and the visit was still positive.
C. T.
Walk next to the Boat Inn lovely country pub with good food
D. E.
Stopped in here for lunch, got a great table in this beautiful inn. Food was excellent, service was top notch (thanks to our waiter Tom). Price was reasonable. Looks very popular and I can see why. Thanks!
S. F.
Beautiful place dog friendly and nice outside courtyard to enjoy a refreshing drink.lovely restaurant
D. B.
Ordered via the table top QR scan link which was easy to use and our order came reasonably quick.
Very disappointed with the food, the Hunters chicken schnitzel was like a kids meal, hardly any sauce and have to pay extra for side salad. Definitely would not order again.
J. D.
Regarding meals. General view of our group was.. has been much better. All plates had a big empty space as though the staff had not taken care from pass to the table. In my case.. fish n chips... the batter was soggy with the fish broken in two parts...garden peas very hard... chips not too good. The whole meal was not piping hot..
Felt a bit let down compared with previous visits.
R. F.
Great food, great service. Reasonably priced.
T. B.
Lovely food and great customer service from the staff
J. H.
Lovely surroundings. Took staff some time to find us a table even though they were not busy. Expensive food. Had the gammon, not too good quite gristly, and just meat and chips, no tomato or salad or any garnish which would have made it look more presentable.
Will not be rushing back.
k. j.
Friendly staff and lovely food, enjoyed by all.
L. T.
Great venue for a drink by the fire but I wouldn't eat here again. The service was lovely, but the food was a bit disappointing for the price point. Nothing to actually complain about but I was expecting the burger we ordered to be a bit more special for the high price point.
P. B.
Excellent food at reasonable prices. Really well looked after by bar staff and waiters.
K.
Popped for a drink while walking dogs .. slightly expensive but nice location. Sat in courtyard which I assume would be a lovely place to sit when sun is shining etc.
T. M.
Lovely cold pints, whether sitting in the picturesque farm yard/beer garden or the cozy bar and snug area, you can feel the history oozing from every pore of this beautiful country inn, whenever passing the Don gorge don't forget to stop in and have that glass of refreshment and maybe a mouthwatering meal from the kitchen.
Definitely worth a visit.
Y. G.
We stopped here for lunch on a long drive from London to Edinburgh with 4 year old & newborn baby. Beautiful location with a lovely large outside courtyard. Kid & dog friendly. Food was delicious. Staff friendly and attentive. I would 100% stop here again if we were in the area.
I. S.
Looking very good inside since reopening. We sat near an open fire. The food was great the staff were very polite. Great place for lunch in the day and a great setting for drinks at night. Highly recommend the boat Inn. Support local Doncaster venues
L. B.
Really lovely restaurant/pub in a bit of a secluded area. Staff were lovely and the food was lovely. We went when the Euros were on so hardly any people as I believe they don't have a TV but it was perfect for me and friends to enjoy a drink and food. Big carpark. Definitely recommended.
L. D.
wonderfull fresh Sunday lunch, big up the extra gravy, great selection, friendly staff and loverly surroundings
K. S.
Gorgeous food, very friendly staff
G. T.
Loved this place, staff are friendly, its gorgeous inside and decent food and beverages
R. B.
An absolute gem of a place, beautiful pub perfectly set out in charming surroundings. Food is excellent, ample portions at reasonable prices and the drinks selection is also good
I. P.
The pub has been refurbished to a very high standard. The food is very good, however the portions are small for what you pay for.
J. C.
Staff were very polite and had us sat down almost immediately ,although they weren't over busy when we arrived, orders for food and drink were taken and delivered OK, the belly pork I ordered was really nice, but the vegetables left a bit to be desired ,large pieces of carrot ( almost a full carrot sliced in half) were a bit under cooked, the rest of the veg was fine, roast potatoes were tasty and there were plenty of them ,I do have to say that ordering a Sunday roast at 6:30 - 7:00pm was probably not the best thing to do ,we will go again but will probably try a steak next time.
K. J.
First meal out of lock down and unfortunately, rather disappointed. My hunter's chicken topping was miniscule, the chips tasted like they'd been in same oil as fish and my friends were not impressed with their food stating their meat was too fatty. Not what I expected. Our 3 meals and 3 drinks cost just short of £60 and I felt like it was definitely a waste of money. Service was great however. Really welcoming staff and friendly table service and the venue was nice and cosy, clean and tidy so just the food that let it down.
m. w. 2.
Very nice food.very helpfull and friendly staff.and it is dog friendly with treats and plenty of water bowls.
A. H.
Fantastic food, great service and amazing atmosphere. Dog friendly. Cannot recommend enough.
P. N.
We called in here for a drink after a lovely walk with the dog. It is very welcoming and friendly. Didn't eat but the food looked lovely. Next time will definitely try the food.
H. M.
The food was fantastic and I really enjoyed my meal.
J. M.
Shame alot of menu not available but had lovely time. Front of house make this venue
C. R.
Place nice, vegetarian options very limited especially at lunch menu, disappointing really
K.
It was a nice place to stop for some food as we cycled the canal. It was a very warm day so we sat outside. The menu was limited but that might have been as it was lunch time and the food was average when it arivived. Service was OK if a little slow. I liked the fact that we did not have to book and I would visit again
S. B.
Birthday dinner with the gf, the belly pork was sensational 😁
C. H.
Lovely friendly place, puy lentil lasagna will not disappoint. Staff really helpful...if they know their left from right lol, thanks for a lovely evening xx
L. D.
Loved this place after a walk down canal, very cosy, friendly staff first time there but will be going for a longer stay next time.
R. s.
Lovely little hide away pub on the outskirts of Doncaster, So nice we had lunch there and returned for evening Dinner Food and serves was excellent 5 stars
C. O.
Love it. Especially the drinks coasters. Great fun. Oh and lovely food. Oh and doom bar on tap. Perfick
G. R.
A lovely setting for lunch in the sun. Tables have loads of space around them. The team seemed overwhelmed by the number of customers and food was slow to come out. The fish cake was good but wouldn't order sirloin steak or salad again.
P. L.
Lunch was suspect, meal replaced but no one followed up to see if replacement was up to scratch.
M. M.
Really good meal staff very pleasant and obliging.
L. W.
Food was lovely . Staff friendly and helpful.
G. J.
Just called in for a coffee on our travel, sat outside so couldn’t comment what the inside was like, the coffee was good.
G. S.
Called Off for a quick print whilst on a bike ride. Lovely sunny Sunday afternoon the pub was very busy but served quickly.
J. M.
Last two visits were less than stellar but this time everything was spot on, both in terms of food and service.
B. B.
Lovely Sunday dinner, however when we asked for extra custard with the dessert, the waiter replied..we’ve got a lot on, so it was a no
P. P.
Too few staff resulted in long waiting to be served and tables not being cleared... Recurring problems in recent weeks and months
D. P.
Lovely place with friendly staff, great food.
P. z. (.
Didn't get to try the food, as I missed their restaurant hours. Pub itself is in a lovely location, excellent staff, dog friendly and worth the visit- I'll be back to try the food!
S. E.
Stopped the night in the motorhome brilliant food and drink will stay here again if we are passing
J. B.
We stayed in our motorhome overnight. Staff very friendly. We had a superb dinner. Location just by the river Don, lovely walks. This is a dog friendly pub. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
D. D.
The decor was pleasant but there were a few cobwebs hanging about the fireplace. However, the tables and cutlery were clean.
The menu was fairly simple, and had one vegetarian/vegan main. There were also pizzas and burgers where a vegetarian choice was available. My husband had meat lasange, I had the lentil one. We both judged the dishes as " ok". They had sold out of my favourite creme brule, so we borh had the brownie dessert with icecream and it was nice.
The young man serving us was friendly and heloful. If we wanted a quick simple lunch or dinner in pleasant surroundings we may call again, but if more choice and higher quality food was wanted we'd probably go elsewhere.
P. h.
Great place to be great food shame about the parking
D. P.
Service was fine, food was ok, but there was a problem with flys in the area where we sat.
E. H.
Thank you to The Boat Inn. The staff are wonderful, incredibly helpful and accomodating. They really couldn't do enough for us. We had booked a table in advance and notified them that we would have our dog with us. There were plenty of water bowls full of water for visiting dogs. The staff helped us to get my dad, who was in a wheelchair, up the couple of steps to our table. I had omitted to tell them about the wheelchair but this was not a problem for them as they gave us a bigger table to get the wheelchair in comfortably. They were so helpful. They got our drinks from the bar for us, answered questions about various dishes and made us feel so very welcome. The food was delicious. The desserts were just as amazing and there was lots of choice too. On leaving, they again helped us exit with the wheelchair. A huge thank you to all the staff at The Boat Inn. We will certainly return. We had a fabulous meal and a memorable experience. Wonderful!!
J. L.
Haven't been inside in a long time, but I paddled there via the Don on Monday 19th and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Approachable, present but not pushy. Price can be a little high, but for one or two after a paddle, there's no better place.
L. S.
What a jewel, perfect location, perfect atmosphere, perfect staff and perfect food would have like to show you pictures of my meal but it didn't last long enough my new favorite place to eat out I could not fault anything about this establishment deserves 6 stars not 5
A. P.
Website states you'll be spoilt for choice for cask beers, alas not the case last night. Only one, that being Doombar which was very nice.
Food is a tad expensive for what you get. The Hunter's Chicken itself was excellent, but the 3 times cooked chips were a disappointment. It doesn't matter how many times you cook catering chips you'll impart any flavour in them. The other part if the meal was salad, which consisted of a handful of leaves, no dressing or coleslaw. It was hardly imaginative presentation.
The pub is a lovely place and nicely decorated, shame it's let down by what should be its main strengths, namely food & ales.
T. G.
Had a fantastic meal Tonight , George brought out a cake at the end and sang happy birthday he was embarrassed but did it full marks a credit to your business
J. M.
Lovely pub but very busy. Food wait was about an hour on a sunny Saturday.
V. W.
Food was great and staff were friendly and helpful
P. V.
Just had Christmas dinner at the Boat Inn and it was absolutely fantastic. The staff were amazing and the food was wonderful. Thank you for a great experience.
P. W.
Lovely staff and nice venue but food is mediocre for price, don't have the scollops and prawns starter if you go the scollops are the size of a large pea... disappointed
A. A.
We had a lovely meal here. No complaints about the food at all. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The Boat Inn is set in a lovely location. You do need to enter your car registration inside to make sure you don't incur the parking fine, there are plenty of notices informing you of this and it's very easy to do. Would definitely recommend this place. We will be returning.
N. S.
Good food & as always great staff.
T. O.
Lovely pub and staff. Highly recommended
K. K.
Great location and dog friendly garden area.
D. G.
Met up with family who we have not seen since way before lockdown so a special gathering. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although it was a bit cold outside we all enjoyed our visit. The meals all arived hot and well presented. I had bellypork while the meat eaters had beef. Mine was gorgeous. I would definatly order it again.
A. M.
Food is great. Service is hit and miss. Seemed short staffed. Fair few food items run out on Sunday lunch if you get there past 3pm.
D. A.
Food excellent 🤗, but staff horrible. When you wait more than an hour to bring you what you ordered and finally is coming you don't have cutlery... So you have to wait for another half hour. Another 15 minutes for salt and pepper and finally at the end you realise that they didn't bring you everything what you ordered. I pay for coffee but nobody bring us the coffee...
K. C.
Really great service from Joe. We were very well looked after. Will definitely come back. Nice surroundings and good food.
b. b.
Great atmosphere, great food and excellent service
c. m.
Absolutly lovely as long as you book a table. Turn up to a pub for a drink.. your outside in the cold as tables reserved for food only ☹️ restetant or pub.. you decide.
R. E.
Wife & I went with 2 friends, 3 bottles of wine later and a great meal, we all thought we would be back again soon. A place for sensible prices, quality, quantity and good staff
T. R.
Really nice food but the majority of the menu was out of stock and we were one of the first lunchtime bookings. Otherwise it would probably be a 5 star review
A. R.
A lovely Sunday lunch meal in very comfortable surroundings served by very friendly and helpful staff
A. L.
The Boat Inn is in a peaceful riverside location, and has some beautiful public footpaths and towpaths right around so you can get there easily on foot or with pedal power. There is a shorter menu available with set prices for either a 2 or 3 course meal, and then a longer menu with plenty of options for vegetarian and non-vegetarian guests. The staff are very friendly and you can take your doggy best friend inside too near the main bar area. There are plenty of seats indoors and out, and you don't feel cramped. The menu prices are excellent value for money and the food tastes mouth-wateringly good. Book for Sunday lunch to avoid disappointment!
O. T.
Walked in at 11:50 to an empty eating area so sat down to be told that every table was booked! To be fair... sign outside saying booking is essential and they were right! Waitress was excellent though, looked through the bookings and found a table that was booked from 13:30 so gave us that. Food came out super quick and at the best quality imaginable. Perfect representation of a Sunday Roast. Pricing spot on for the quality and portion.
Lovely location for a pub and especially this pub. Fitted into the surroundings perfectly. Nice little walk along the riverside after too.
G. C.
Lovely pub with good food if a little pricey. Only 2 real ales on too- Black sheep & Doom!
Quick friendly service though.
M.
We had a family Christmas meal here, and the food was delicious and service was impeccable, would recommend this lovely pub/ restaurant to everyone...
S. H.
Very friendly staff.
Excellent food.
Lovely surroundings.
What more could you ask for.
First visit but sure to return.
J. B.
Fabulous meal and lovely atmosphere with very attentive staff. Can't wait to visit again.
I. R.
Nice staff decent food if a little pricy.
Edit to 3 stars.
Staff need some training and prices need reviewing.
A. D.
Great beer, good staff and a decent menu to try another time. A bit dark on a lovely sunny day though.
h.
A place to take friends and enjoy a meal out.
J. G.
A good day out by the river Don. Steady walk down around the area. Called in at the Boat Inn had a meal and a pint which was nicely cooked and super pint to wah the food down. A bit on the expensive side, but it was a day out.
a. w.
Called in the Boat Inn after a riverboat cruise the food was amazing, the staff were fabulous very friendly and helpful would definitely call in again it's a beautiful venue and the most welcoming open fire
K. M.
Had a lovely wedding lunch here today, the food was delicious everyone commented how much they had enjoyed it, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff couldn't do enough for us, would definitely recommend
D. M.
Lovely food and nice surroundings.
V. M.
After a refreshing walk via sprotbourgh flashes and up the pennie trail...
Would highly reccomend the boat inn for a lovely refreshment stop of your choice
Enjoy 😘
t.
Lovely relaxed place. Food was great. Service was great. You can be casual or smart for the place. Need to register your reg car plate when you get in or you receive an £80 fine as the car park gets used for walkers out for the day leaving no space for The Boat Inn customers. Simple easy to do. No hassle. Again great will be going again. Thank you.
P. S.
Lovely place great food and atmosphere. Just be careful to check in your car registration number as soon as you enter at the reception so you do not get a parking fine. Lots of people are parking and going for walks and taking the spaces up. We didn't know this had been enforced so received a fine but we explained and it was cancelled. Just saves the hassle if you check in first.
A. C.
Amazing place to eat, food is always amazing and if you like seafood then it's the place to go. Huge portions so 3 courses will have you wobbling out the restaurant.
Didn't give five stars as service can sometimes be a little slow but the food is always hot when comes out and I would never avoid someone for slow service with food this good. Take as long as you want as it's perfect when it comes out.
M. S.
Popped in for lunch with my husband on a very wet week day. Greeting was polite and friendly. Had a lovely lunch I had two starters for a main course and they were both presented beautifully. My husband had steak and said it was one of the best, cooked to perfection. Will definitely go back in better weather as the outside was a beautiful as the inside. I would imagine that it gets very busy in better weather and at weekends.
R. A.
Excellent food, Brad provided great service.
G. D.
Excellent food and service. Nice walk before lunch to build up the appetite!!
R. B.
What a beautiful place. Lovely staff and lovely food
S. M.
Had lunch in this cracking place food was fantastic, service remarkable and staff all so polite and well mannered will definitely be returning when next in the area
J. W.
Lovely place. Always cosy, great, drinks and food. Great location
P. J.
Just had Xmas Dinner at the boat Inn everything was really excellent the staff were professional and nice the food excellent compliments to the chef well done everyone at the boat in 100 percent top notch
S. D.
Very nice setting and a good place to start your Riverside walk from, but I thought the food was overpriced for what is was and the quality of it disappointing. Lovely, friendly staff though.
V. N.
Great outdoor space...beautifully renovated. The tables are well spaced and covid precautions are excellent. It's nice to sit out in the evening sunshine here surrounded by trees.
J. B.
Just had an amazing Sunday lunch here the food was cooked to perfection staff were polite and attentive. It is a lovely place very up-market Highly recommend 👌
T. S.
Good food but the veggie burger was small and basic - it looked like a kid's meal compared to the other meals
M. H.
Been here a couple of times and the food has always been spot on. On top of that, they have the perfect waiter there, (which we've since found out his name is actually Owen and not The Perfect Waiter,) who is the most professional waiter I have ever had the pleasure of coming across. The food, drink and service here are great.
a. b.
👍😊 Very Good Food And The Staff Very Very Friendly 👍👍👍👍👍😊
D. G.
Food was ok
Service slow
Nice surroundings
Pleasant enough staff, just not attentive enough, took 20 minutes before my starter plates were removed.
Wife said the belly pork was tough and just tasted like an over cooked pork chop
The beef rib I had was nice if a little fatty
Puddings and starters nice, three stars based on service and mains.
Would I go again? Id Probably try somewhere else if I'm honest.
J. J.
Our favourite place to eat out. Very friendly staff and super fantastic food. We’ve been here a few times now and just love it. And you can have a nice stroll by the river after. The Boat Inn is the perfect place which is dog friendly too. Just remember, if you park in their car park to enter your car reg. when you go in.
A. T.
Food wasn't bad. Service was slow considering it wasn't too busy. but the lady who served us was very helpful and kind. We would eat there again and the food was value for money. One thing I did notice was how people's expectations of food was. It's a pub and it's pub food. If your not happy paying pub prices eat elsewhere. Suppose that's the civilisation we live in these days.
C. B.
My favourite local it’s clean friendly always feel welcome lovely staff good selection of drinks at the bar and meals at a good price too if you’re hungry
C. S.
Cracking location and lovely building. The food is nothing out if this world but like all other Vintage Inn's it's pretty consistent and priced fairly with regular seasonal menu changes.
Expect it to be busy on weekends and also take note that they have introduced a strange parking scheme where you have to pay to park but then get your money refunded at the bar... im not a fan of this at all and hope to see this change soon.
Overall all it's a nice place with plenty of seating in a decent setting.
J. S.
Always Enjoy this place 💗 great service after a bit of faf over menus lol 😂 but lovely food and never feel rushed, thankyou x
C. W.
Fantastic food, really nice place and you can take your dog on there
C. B.
Great atmosphere, good food, friendly staff and an excellent location
A. Y.
It's certainly worth finding this pub. Drink selection Is good, food better than average & reasonably priced. The building & surroundings are wonderful. The only real drawback is that's is nearly always busy, but that gives you a good idea of how well regarded this place is.
D. H.
Very busy place for Sunday lunch. Good walks nearby do a good place to stop en route. Good outside courtyard which is a nice sunny spot on a nice day. Good food and drink. A little bit more expensive than average but not too bad. Sharing platters available and snacks for lighter meals. Nice historic building and cosy feel inside.
A. H.
Very disappointed with the mothers day menu, especially when you are told that the trio meal was now only a duo, and had run out of the turkey for the meal.
A. C.
Had a lovely meal with my friend. Wonderful staff and service can highly recommend very pleasant visit, will be going again.
j. l.
Great drinks in the courtyard on a sunny afternoon
L. E.
Food was lovely and staff were great. Nice setting inside and out and you.can bring your dog
D. J.
Went walking along the canal and called in for a drink. Been there before but prices have shot up nearly £10 for 2 drinks
R. H.
Wonderful food, excellent staff, absolutely reasonably priced menu
F. H.
We've been to this place on a few occasions and always found it to be lovely, however today was a different experience. Firstly, we were put on a table that was uneven and rocked from side to side. When I mentioned it to our waitress, her response was I know, I'll put some beer mats under it, we're fully booked. We had booked our table over a week prior. When this didn't work, she eventually moved us. We ordered our meals and a drink. All good. However, the waitress came and asked us if all was ok with the meals and my husband asked for extra gravy as stipulated on the menu unlimited and with 2 Yorkshire puddings it needed it. After 20 mins and an empty plate, said gravy didn't arrive. I asked a barman for another drink which he said I couldn't and I needed to order with the waitress who never materialised. When we came to pay, I mentioned this to the waitress. Instead of apologising her instant response was I can only do 20% discount. It wasn't that we wanted discount just awareness of the situation. She didn't even say thank you as we paid. Disgusting attitude from her. This would put me off going again. Such a shame as lovely place in a nice location. Mrs H
S. A.
Lovely setting and the food was gorgeous. Highly recommend you pay a visit
m. t.
The pub is old and has a bit of character. It's by the river Don in a lovely quiet spot. It has changed management a lot in the past and the food has sometimes been hit and miss. Despite this if you are having a walk down the river on a sunny day it's nice to have a refreshing drink and sit outside.
M. C.
Really like the boat it's in a great location and food always cooked well advise booking as gets busy as river frontage a key walking area
S. A.
Great food, well-cooked steak, nice portions. Especially liked the mini dessert and coffee. Great value Evening Treats offer at £14.50 for a two-course meal.
P. D.
Good to get out for a lunchtime meal with family. Really well organised, helpful and attentive staff. Great courtyard garden. Greatly helped by wonderful weather
P. H.
Lovely meal, would have preferred mashed potatoes and a little bit more belly pork, all my other party looked to have had much more meat on their plate.
J. J.
I have been dining at The Boat Inn for approximately 10 years now but haven't been for a good 6 months. I was mortified to read all the recent negative reviews as this restaurant has always been one of my favourites in the local area. The location and the atmosphere always feels more special than a regular 'pub'. I hesitantly booked a table of 4 for last night. I'll start by saying all the negative reviews regarding parking fines should not be directed towards The Boat Inn. There are numerous signs in the car park, on the bar and scattered around the pub. The screen is placed on the bar to enter your reg number, it's simple and common sense really? Plus, it should be seen as a postive as atleast only people going to the pub are now using the car park. In the past its always been a nightmare getting parked due to dog walkers.
Anyway, our table was ready for our arrival and we were served straight away at the bar. It was a busy Saturday evening (every table was taken) but again, a really nice cosy atmosphere. I was very happy to see they have introduced a fresh Vegan Menu, very rare for this area and my husband ordered a starter and a main from it. Our server was prompt with taking our order and all our starters and main meals came out hot, well presented and within an average waiting time. Don't get me wrong, the food and service aren't Michelin standard but you certainly get what you pay for. It's hearty pub grub with friendly service in a lovely setting. The menu and prices are set by Vintage Inns. We arrived at 8pm and left just before midnight.
Thanks again for a wonderful evening.
D. C.
Needs smaller cups for a flat white coffee or extra shot in.
B. A.
Really decent pub grub in a nice setting. Bonus points for having a dog friendly indoor seating/eating section. Worth staying for pudding. Service can at times be a little slow.

Had my birthday meal and the staff really made the effort bringing out a complimentary cake, atmosphere good. One of our party had to return his steak as it wasn't cooked to his liking the staff were excellent and couldn't do enough to accommodate us Thank you Boat inn highly recommended

Party of 4 on a Sunday. Had to find a table in the bar area at the back as it was very busy ( best to book a table). Excellent food and great beer! Staff friendly and helpful. I would recommend the boat Inn as probably the best pub for food and drink for many miles. Thanks!

Lovely place , a little pricey

I go here with my family and dogs often. I never really like anything off the menu so I just order a classical fish and chips. There are lots of burgers and many traditional main courses as well as a bar, with a drink for everyone to enjoy.

Great place with very patient very hard working staff. Wonderful sunny courtyard made for a splendid day. Food was excellent too! Yes its busy but well worth the wait and what a place to idle away a couple of hours. A credit to all the staff!

Beautiful location and lovely inside. Only went for a drink to meet a friend because it was a halfway location but will do food next time. It's got a really great atmosphere and look forward to returning.

Wonderful setting by the river. Food and service was a delight. So we booked lunch for our return home.

Excellent. Allowed to stay over in our campervan. The food was lovely, "Sticky Sharer Platter" thingy was triffik. The beer was ok but would have liked a more 'robust' option to Tim Taylor or Black Sheep. Really good capuchino my wife says. The staff were well presented, helpful and efficient.
Good to find a popular gastro pub that is doggy friendly.
Lovely, good value, canalside venue. Will come again.

Awesome place, outdoor dining, dogs allowed, great nature wildlife, love it...

Lovely place to eat, right beside the water. Very picturesque and welcoming staff. Choice of menu was typical but cooked to a high standard. A thoroughly enjoyable time spent here with family. Well worth a visit!

Dissapointed! Lovely surroundings but the service and food was mediocre. Took food to the wrong table as the wrong number had been put down. Part of the order was a cheese and ham sandwich on brown bread. When it arrived it was on white bread, told the member of staff that we had ordered it on brown to be grunted at that, that was the only bread you do. Why did the staff member taking the order at the bar not mention this? Won't be returning.

Love this place, but the coffees have definately gone down hill. Their idea of a latte is more the size of a espresso. Living in Yorkshire, a Latte is a Latte, not an espresso!

We had coffee and a snack of triple cooked chips and crusty bread. Ssssooo nice. Yes you do register your reg number on arrival and then parking is free , there are plenty of notices so you can't forget. The place was busy so we found a cosy corner to sit in and chill. I loved it.

This place has never disappointed us with our numerous visits. Sure the prices a little more than other restaurants but the food quality matches it. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and the decor is very warm and comfy. A must visit place if you are in the area for something a little special or just a very nice relaxed meal out.

Lovely public house, great outside space, for people who walk, bikes & dog friendly, nice food, plenty of room for parking, plenty of seating inside.

We went to visit the Boat Inn at Sprotborough today because next weekend we have booked the whole family on the Santa cruise that departs from here. We wanted to see what the menu and food would be like for 7 adults and two grandchildren to have lunch after the boat ride
I remember going to this pub about five years ago for an evening meal, it was excellent, I wasn’t so impressed this visit. There were two menus, one standard usual grills, burgers, hearty main courses, the other was a Christmassy menu, with the option of tap or three courses.
Hubby had a b.l.t with chicken breast on ciabatta, bread lightly toasted, this came with chunky chips.i think it fair to say he enjoyed his meal. I chose off the Christmas menu and had slow cooked rib of beef (bone in) with roasted carrots
and glazed sprouts all sat on a bed of horseradish mash.
I have to say this was somewhat lacking in flavour. Everything tasted the same and I thought it was quite bland. It is unusual for me not to leave an empty plate, but I really didn’t enjoy it. Hubby enjoyed his and I must say the service and staff were very good.
I don’t think we will be having lunch there next week end after the boat trip, but it was a good job we paid them a visit.

It is a very nice looking pub in a great setting, but there are big problems front and back of house that need to be sorted out. Last night we arrived for our 7pm booking. After 20 minutes we went looking for staff who took the order at 7:40, telling us there would be a further 45 minute wait for food. There were free tables so we couldn't put this down to anything other than bad organisation. Food arrived at 9pm and was not great, some of it cold.
Manager Lee had been called in on his night off due to other customer complaints and in fairness he did introduce himself, apologize, and give us a significant discount.

Had a meal wed afternoon .food excellent. Staff lovely and polite
Lovely place .Nice and cosy feel

Nice meal, but they ran out of onion rings, offered alternative but never arrived even after asking again for it twice.
Service was a little hit or miss

Went here on a really busy day! Food was lovely, and the pub/surroundings were beautiful. However it took a while (1 hour) to get our puddings once we'd ordered them.

Went yesterday for a meal. It was delicious. The food it all home cooked. We were served by a young man. He was lovely as we're all the staff. Had colours and activity paper for my son. Great find. Will definitely be returning.

Great location but the food was really disappointing. Limited parking especially on the weekends and staff were unprofessional

George, Mick, Joe, Holly who served us front of house and Owen/Andy who cooked our food and came out and talked to us after.

Fish and Chips was dry and meal was late to arrive.

Had a nice walk along the canal before venturing into the 'Boat inn'. There is a good sized outside area which looked clean and tidy and looked after. But we chose to sit inside. Inside it's very cosy and 'olde worlde'. A nice open fire is always a welcome sight. Got a table straight away. Good choice of food on the menu. Children's menu was good too. The spicey bean burgers were nice. (Why oh why do they throw French fries on the plate. It's not a fast food restaurant. Spoils it. Hence the 4☆ rating). I chose the fish finger sandwich and chunky chips. Very nice too. Granddaughter had pasta chips (chunky) and beans. A lot for a 2 year old. Smaller portions for little ones would be better. All in all we enjoyed it and will no doubt be returning in the future. Another Vintage inn to put on my 'go to places'.

Been a few times. Expensive. Staff could do with some training.

The staff here are brilliant - great combination of friendly and efficient, the food is great, well cooked and presented, perfect portions not too huge! The Gluten free menu is done well - and the bread really yummy!

A quaint little pub in a quiet surrounding at the side of the river. Set in a beautiful village it is perfect for Sunday lunch followed by a nice walk. Dog friendly and serve a really good sellection of real ales on rotation.

Lovely building&set in a nice area.Busy buzzing atmosphere for this time of the year which was lovely.Nice staff&food was great.Enjoyable visit for us.
4stars as meal was more than nice yet tend to pay these sort of prices at restaurants where you wine&dine.
Still very nice.

Great place to relax with family, polite an friendly staff

The sticky platter is immense with triple cooked fries and cheesy garlic mushrooms! Had a great night last night and with summer coming eating outside is a must! Love this place!

Great Location, Good Looking menu and range of Beer & Lager. There is a children's menu £5 meals. There is a large courtyard area where you can eat and drink, but no views of the Canal. It is right next to the Trans Pennine Trail as a biker it is Welcome rest place. But menu isn't good for a biker little under £10, chips are £2.50 snack and portion is size is small. Didn't explore tea coffee and cake options as were not on main menu, or on chalk boards. When I called (Monday midday) the bar was not staffed either times I went in, when staff arrived very friendly. Toilets need a clean and stocking with soap as neither dispenser had any in. I would go back, but it could be so better.

Lovely restaurant excellent service excellent food

Beautiful old waterside building, with outside seating and car park. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Food good quality and portion size just right. Will go back.

Lovely little bar/restaurant on the side of canal good service bit pricey but thats the area
D. C.
A brilliant pun just to go on an evening and have a few lovely beers. Granted the food is average at best. But the atmosphere, friendly staff and wide and ever changing choices of beers, ales, lagers and spirits make this a wonderful pub.
J. J.
For a chain restaurant the food is remarkably good the staff friendly and a very good atmosphere
D. H.
Lovely food friendly staff and a great location. I'll be going back again
A. F.
Stunning location. However we visited on one of warmest summer evenings and it was actually cooler to sit outside. With seemingly no aircon it was ridiculously hot, even just standing at the bar to order drinks. Beverages are very overpriced but the location makes and atmosphere does make up for that.

Lovely staff and service, great food and atmosphere, beautiful surroundings

Had our wedding meal here on Friday.
Team was exceptional!
Special thanks to Owen.
Couldn’t have gone any better.
Massive thank you from Nathan and Tiffany, x

Lovely venue and nice staff. Food was good enough but not amazing and drinks were good. Service was slow and they didn't even seem that busy. It took me nearly 25mins, queuing to get to the bar on a Thursday lunchtime!

Nice setting in courtyard. Great friendly staff. Well done for opening up again after the floods and then the Pandemic. All the best for the future. 🙂

Great location by the side of the river and an ideal spot if out walking for the day. Ordered three meals two of which were excellent. Child's sausage and chips no complaints pretty straight forward, Steak and Ale pie which looked amazing and tasted delicious served with chips and vegetables then there was the Hunters Chicken. To be honest I'm sorry to say that this must be the worst Hunters Chicken I've ever had, the chicken was dry and bland topped with a square of cheese and a piece of gamon, thankfully the gamon had some flavour. This was served with chips and half a grilled tomatoe, and a small ramakin which appeared to have a barbeque sauce that could have come straight from a bottle!! No other vegetables or sauce to cover the meat. Think the chef must have had an off day when he thought of this dish to be fair, Ive had better from a supermarket, and for the price would have expected better.

This place is wonderful. It is situated next to the river and there are some great walks around here. The inn is an old building with a huge amount of character. The food is delicious and not too expensive. This place really has got to be seen to be believed. Plenty of parking space and outside seating with tables is available.
