I'd quite like to give this 3.5 stars but I wouldn't round up to 4. Staff and restaurant were great. Friendly staff and good service. But the food just didn't amaze me. The sharer steak board was £60. You got to try four 3oz cuts of meat each and it came with 4 sides. The sides weren't huge but they were enough. It was all perfectly fine, but it just didn't taste amazing. I've had more enjoyable steaks at steak night at a pub. If I could, I'd say food 2.5 stars, staff and restaurant 4 stars. Probably wouldn't go back as you can get better for cheaper.

Really nice food, been coming here for quite a few years. Staff are very friendly and helpful and Rich the manager is a gent. It's also brilliant on a night if you visit here on a weekend, lots of pints and cocktails to chose from! Obviously I will be back :)

Boat club is a beautiful place to start in Durham. Never actually had food here however it is now running a tommahawk steakhouse. cocktails are 2 for £7 Monday-Friday the rest are £8 a pop ... so if your in Durham during the week, head there for the 'Absolute Passions'. They also have a good draught selection, serving ales and lagers . Love neck oil and good old corona on tap . Beautiful scenes outside and on the terrace.

Food was fabulous, I did not expect it to be so nice. I'm use to going there for a night out. Called in from a walk along Durham River. Duck wraps were beautiful and my friend had a burger and said it was the best burger they have ever had. Would highly recommend.

Enjoyed cocktails here on a summer afternoon so reserved a table for the evening with the family. Busy but didn't take too long to get served at the bar. Staff are friendly and good atmosphere. Only left as the music was too loud for some of the family. Would go back.

Staff, drink selection and pricing is all okay. Decent selection of beers and even cocktails, I'm definitely biased as they had koppaberg on tap which is rare to see. Didn't have food as we just stayed downstairs in the bar. Little beer garden outside on the water front is nice.

Great place to go when in Durham.. I travel from Newcastle every Friday for the bottomless supper 30£ per person well worth it. Good vibes all round.. and the staff so helpful and kind. Definitely worth going here. They do the best parmos in the North east by a mile.. thats my opinion 💯

Very nice place by the river. You can eat and drink in a nice place in Durham. Reasonable prices, good food and a wide range of spirits and beers. You have also access to a small balcony with an outstanding view of the river specially suitable for smokers. You can also hire a boat downstairs if you want to explore further the river. I really liked this place and I recommend 100% a visit at least or more...

I called in here on my recent visit with my sister to Durham. It's set down on the riverbank so unless you know it's there it's not immediately noticeable. There's steps down to it from the bridge or you can reach it through the shopping centre if you go down the steps from the carpark, there is a lot of floors to go down to reach it so if you're not too fit there is a lift. It's well worth a visit, it's lovely inside very modern, with a veranda with outside seating that overlooks the river. We sat inside on high tables next to french doors which open out with lovely views. There was a good choice of food but we settled on a warm steak sandwich with a beautiful sweet onion chutney, a bowl of fries and a side salad. Now I never get excited about a side salad but this was a good mix of salad with a tangy dressing on top. I have to say I've never eaten a steak sandwich so gorgeous it was really tasty. The only slight downside was it was served on a board with a piece of parchment on it then the meal on top, really could have done without this because it got a little bit messy with the steak and sauce dripping out,but it's only a minor thing. It was a bit pricier than I would normally want to pay about £12 for the meal and a drink but it was so worth it.

Visited Durham for my 60th Birthday 14th July, having been born at Hardwick Hall. With my son and grandchildren. We called at The Boat Club for some lunch while in the city. I am disabled and use a mobility scooter. The staff where friendly and very accommodating. The food was amazing and even accommodated my granddaughter who is a picky eater. I am going back to Durham in October for a longer weekend so will definitely be making another visit to The Boat Club.

Great bar, great staff, the drinks are a little above average price wise, but everything else makes up for it. Saturday nights are usually really busy, with DJ Mike Holmes playing on the decks till the early morning. Friday nights are a little bit calmer and sometimes they tend to close downstairs and use the upstairs bar, with music playing upstairs (unless there's a special event on). Great views of Elvet bridge can be seen from the bar. The inside of the bar has been done out within the past couple of years, and is very modern type interior.

Ordered a Sunday lunch from the new click & collect menu and I have to say, it was first class. The food itself was delicious, really first rate that was a 10/10 overall. Good sized helping of Beef with beautiful roast potatoes, creamed swede, roasted carrot, broccoli & cauliflower cheese and a great Yorkshire pudding. It was a really good sized portion for an adult lunch (and the child's portion was spot on too). The beef was cooked to perfection and the sticky toffee pudding as desert was also lovely. Highly reccomended for a Sunday Lunch.

Went for dinner - food was great but the service was pretty slow, taking a while to clear plates etc. I don't blame the serving staff as it looked like they were short staffed. Looked like several members of management doing nothing while others struggled. Also booked a table well in advance and given a poor time and table when in reality the restaurant was less than half empty. The management need some training.

Good spot by the river ... but... given the current situation, we had to wait 40 mins for a coffee and a glass of wine. Downloaded App and paid and waited and waited and waited. Also, the required payment includes a service charge and a tip. I overheard one of the waitresses saying they don't ever get the tips. I wouldn't usually pay a tip when only getting a drink. Particularly not having to wait for ages.

First post-lockdown lunch with my best friend of over 60 years. First of all let me say how lovely your staff are. Smiley, friendly, just the right level of chat and not one of them called us 'Dear'! We both had the Korean chicken which was succulent and delicious. If I had to criticise, it would be that a lot of the food, burgers etc, comes in a brioche roll. No choice of rolls and, as brioche is sweet, eating them with meat is not to everyone's taste. This narrowed down the menu a lot for us both. Apart from that it was a lovely experience in a beautiful location.

Wonderful view, sited on the banks of the river wear and close to the centre of the city. Pub/restaurant but not a chain cloan, has its own menue of very tasty food. Some steps need to be climbed to get in so not wheel chair friendly I'm affraid.

What can I say the boat club is amazing.. we went yesterday and the weather was beautiful so sitting by the river in Durham what more could you ask.. we went up a lovely spiral staircase to a open deck and a beautiful view. Unfortunately everyone had had the same idea so we had to eat inside but that didn't ruin our visit.. we sat on high seats so we could look out the doors and watch the row boats go by,even the large sightseeing boats... The area was lovely and cool in the hot weather.. the menu was really good they have a good selection .. as there were 6 of us we tried most of them .. myself I had the steak sandwich and wow is all I can say. The burgers looked fantastic so did the chicken and bacon salad .. staff were very helpful and couldn't of asked for better service .. all of definitely recommend going here any day of the week .. we will be going back very soon ..thank you for a great experience xxx

Enjoyed a Thursday afternoon in here.Have been coming here for years.You can sit outside and enjoy the views of the river. Only negative, a group of 4 workmen were sat near the bar and were very loud, on its own not a problem. ( we were sat other end of bar and could here it )But some of the language was terrible. F and even the odd C word. We noticed a few university students and families turning around and leaving. Will return and just hope this was a one off. Think who ever was in charge that day maybe could have had a little word .

Went here for my daughters hen day, cocktail making. A fantastic day, Jasmine our tutor was fantastic, she was friendly, helpful, patient & extremely professional. The cocktails & mocktails she helped us to make were delicious & the snacks we were given during the time were tasty & well presented. A fantastic day was had by everyone & I would totally recommend a cocktail making afternoon. For £25 we got to make 3 cocktails each, were given a glass of prosecco & a jagerbom. The snacks included onion rings, chicken nuggets, sweet potato fries, nachos & dips!!! Gorgeous. The whole experience was fun from start to end. Huge thank you to Jasmine for putting up with us & keeping us under control.

We were visiting Northumberland, staying at Capheaton Hall. One day we ventured down and toured Durham, a charming village with gorgeous cathedral and castle. By chance we hopped into The Boat Club for lunch. It is a wonderful restaurant not to be missed. The food was awesome. The locale was picturesque. Order the chicken parma. Edit to respond to the reply - Change the music to some relaxing Jazz / to create a specific mood in the restaurant (felt a little bit like the radio), use smaller Parmesan shavings (and a few less) in the chicken Caesar salad, remove some of the anchovies in that dish and put a high quality olive oil into your side salad dressings (they feel a little left out). That'll take you from lunching with acquaintances to dining with the pals.
