Reviews of The Station House
C. B.
Great little micro pub, handy for buses & trains! Well kept & reasonably priced real ales. Just wished that I'd known they did pork pies.
M. S.
Best real ale I've had in ages. Friendly welcome. No wonder they're up for national Pub of the Year!
W. C.
Got to love a bit of "Old fashioned" really good choice of Alcoholic Beverages..
P. D.
Fantastic pub, with pleasant staff that will make you feel welcome, the pork pies are lovely.
A. S.
First visit here. Nice little pub with 6 real ciders available. Has a handy screen showing when next train is due with guide for walking and finishing your drink lol
P. W.
Cosy place with friendly atmosphere and kind staff. Perfect if you have a few hours to kill before a train. Good non alcoholic options too and reasonably priced. Only a four minute walk from the station.
H. T.
A great place to enjoy other people's company. A relaxed pub with friendly bar staff who know all about beer & cider
A. W.
Really good pub. Very authentic bar. Lots of cider tasters to find out what you want and bar tender is really good. The bar tender takes his time. Finds out what you like and the price is reasonable for craft cider. £8 for two ciders. Pub has seating up and downstairs. Stools and chairs. Highly recommended. Great place if you like drinking good quality and fantastic service. Has good food pairings for food and serves lots of good beers and gins and wine.
M. B.
Wonderful time, interesting beers & ciders and incredibly knowledgeable staff. Will visit every time I'm in Durham
A.
Fantastic. Stopped by for a couple of pints and had a lovely time just sat by myself soaking in the atmosphere.
I. F.
Cosy little cask and craft beer focused micro pub tucked under the railway viaduct, next to the station approach. Handy for the station (though down a steep slope from the station), also handy for the bus station and the shopping streets. Excellent quality beers and a good range of malt whisky.
R. C. (. W. W.
Fantastic pub with three real ciders. No rubbish here, all top notch stuff, expertly curated. Good service and atmosphere. Only negative, about 230 miles from home, but I enjoyed my visit
M. S.
Really quirky pub. Great choice of ales
C. A.
Good beer and good craic. And now a CAMRA national "best pub" finalist.
V. B.
Great little real ale/craft beer/cider pub
A. H.
Great choice of beer, good atmosphere
P. J.
Would come back to Durham just to go here. Had a lovely ross-on-wye cider and fantastic vegan sausage roll.
J. C.
Love this pub, always great beer, dead friendly. Landlord/lady and staff know what they're about. Plus in busier times their scotch eggs are lovely!
C. M.
Great pub, great beer.
M. L.
Really nice pub. Excellent beers, well kept and served, and a very friendly and pleasant atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
n. H.
What can I say, great beer.
J. P.
Great selection of 'proper' beers that taste great, welcoming and friendly staff and reasonable prices; inside is warm and comfortable too
P. M.
Plenty covid measures in place, hand sanitizer, names taken, table service. Brilliant selection of ales and cider. Food sadly off today, but when they're on, they do the best pork pie I have ever tasted.
S. B.
Great dog friendly real ale pub. Lovely friendly atmosphere, no musicjust great beer and conversation.
i. c.
Best craft beer in durham. It's my "local" and I live 7 miles away!. Always have 4 craft beers on 2 IPA/blond, 1 bitter or ruby and one porter, and always at least 4 ciders (typically dry, medium, sweet and 1 perry)
Beer always very fresh served directly from the barrel so no contamination. Only minor downside (for a yorkshireman) is no creamy head on your pint, but small price to pay for fresh top quality beers. No food (except small snacks like pork pies, but seen people bring in pizzas from dominos across the road!
Still my local after more than 4 years
R. P.
Decent place offering a good selection of ales. It's fairly minimal inside and I feel the place is missing the character you'd often expect of this type of establishment. The bar itself is interesting with a very authentic feel, bit the rest of the place looks fairly uninspiring.
This being said, when you visit a place like this it's often to get away from the predictable modern chain bars, so I don't think you'd leave being disappointed. Perhaps just not in a hurry to rush back.
S. S.
One of the best pubs in Durham. Great location, great atmosphere and cracking beer. Don't come here if you want freezing cold fizzy beer. This is room cooled, gravity fed beer. Love it.
A. J.
Great selection of well kept cask, craft and cider
P. M.
Top drawer old style real ale/cider boozer almost tucked under the bridge. The young man working was both knowledgeable and a gent. I'll be back.
L. S.
Perhaps the best pub in town for beer lovers. The staff are wonderfully friendly and they encourage a fantastic atmosphere. There is also reasonably priced pork pies and scotch eggs! I would recommend this place to anyone who likes good beer and good company.
P. M.
Simple pub, honest beer. Great place to chat with friends.
J. G.
A fantastic real ale pub, with a lot of character (I especially enjoyed the train station departures feed!). Beer selection is strong, and they have board games to use.
Honestly a pretty great place - my only problem is that it's quite small and hard to get a table when it's busy. There's a cosy sunken area to the right as you enter, and upstairs can be a bit quieter, if that helps.
If my only complaint is that the place is too good, I think it's worth a visit 😀
J. R.
Small, quiet, unique. Good range of slightly unusual beers and ciders. They make a very good gin and tonic. I really liked the fact that there was no music, and the intimate atmosphere.
A. B.
Unique Real Ale (and Cider) pub that has a great atmosphere, friendly and knowledgable staff, and an ever changing selection of beers drawn from the barrel (4 ales/4 ciders). If you're a fan of Real Ales, you'll enjoy this place, and they certainly deserve your support.
C. N.
Good choice of beers and ciders changing every week. Handy for the station and with an arrivals and departures screen to keep an eye on the trains. Quiet and friendly atmosphere. Doesn't serve good except crisps etc.
V. D.
Dog friendly, loads of real ales and cider choice, dominos......it's the perfect pub!!
S. W.
Best place in Durham for a pint! Can't believe I've only just got around to rating this place. Always an excellent range of beer - I'd say the beer was carefully 'curated', but don't want to be too pretentious....
J. R.
Very homely and a friendly atmosphere. Also, the selection of drinks is amazing and changes regularly. The ales and cider are poured from barrels instead of 'on tap' so has a unique flavour.
A. P.
Lovely Ale House. Didn't get chance to have a good look around, but wasn't too bad for a nice pint. Friendly staff.
W. P.
Our favourite bar in Durham. Only a short walk from our hotel. Good range of cask, craft beers together with several ciders.
D. S.
Excellent beer range
T.
Wonderful ales and ciders. Staff were very friendly and patient with us when we took a while to figure out what to order. Would defo recommend for a pint with the lads.
s. s.
Wonderful micro pub serving real ale and cider from keg, with a good wine and international bottled beers including Durham gin. Tasty food, homemade and locally sourced pies and lovingly managed by husband and wife team.
I. D.
Always guaranteed a great selection of beer and cider. Very fresh and constantly changing.
A very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It's a regular spot for me.
R. P.
Just below the station this friendly micro pub offered an interesting range of cask, craft, cider and canned beers.
Covid aware which made a very comfortable atmosphere.
W. R.
Loved this place. I'm drawn to micropubs now more than regular pubs and the Station House is one of the best I've been to. A fine choice of ales and an old-style ambience. A lovely place to while away the time. Great city centre location and friendly staff
G. “. G. N.
Genuinely a little gem of a pub. Totally unique in Durham. If you're visiting the city, or live there, and you like ale then you will regret not calling in for a pint here
N. W.
Nice pub situated close to Durham train station, they had three decent ales on when I visited, all well kept and served. I will be back before my holiday is over.

3. C. C. “. e.
Cozy, warm, friendly and inviting. Sure it may have premium prices, but you only need one glass to sit and talk ;)

Struggled to find a decent pub in Durham, which was disappointing, and found this fantastic jewel just down road from station. Great real ale, nice wine and friendly staff and NO canned music.

Probably the best pub I've ever been to!. Great ale selection, scotch eggs, great staff, great atmosphere , no loud music. Boom!

Good selection of real ale. It was a cold miserable day when I visited. It would have been more comfortable if the staff had kept the cooler doors closed.
J. W.
Excellent selection of ciders

Always a good selection of beers and ciders - some not to my taste (tendency to have light citrusy beers - I prefer more traditional ales)

What a lovely bar and it focuses on northeastern products even down to the lager... Chap behind the bar was very chatty too all in all a better place to go than Costa!!

Nice atmosphere. Not usually too studenty. They have a deal where you can try 1/3 pints so you can try all the have to offer which changes often
