Traditional bar! Loved it. Worked great as a venue for the Fringe festival. It is a bit small if the crowds are big, so if your claustrophobic then maybe not best. Otherwise great staff, and a good laugh

Very nice pub placed nearby downtown and band can sleep in the upper flat. I can't rate this more than 3/5 because in my its ain't anymore a place for live music (not for the venue itself but for the type of managing, specially after receive same feedback from several local Scottish bands )

Good for a night out or a gig. Good meet up place for groups with decent beers and spirits selection. Bannermans is more often busy than not so it's good to keep that in mind. Great and easy going staff for a busy place.

One of the best metal bars in Edinburgh. Part of a really nice wee list of Rock/Metal bars in the city. That includes "Black Bull", "Black Rose Tavern", "The Banshee Labyrinth" and for a club "Legends". This bar is great for the music - often live gigs are played in the back room. Booze - Loads of whiskies and the usual drinking options also. The vibe - like I said Rock/Metal and chilled out. The staff - really nice folks who are always keen to serve you with some fine beverages and are always kind and accommodating.

I don't like loud music and this is what this pub specialises in - but 5 stars because I've been in for a variety of reasons and the staff is always friendly and keen to help, the billiards table is always fun in the afternoons, and the atmosphere is just fantastic - a part of the caverns of the bridges. Seriously, whether you're local or coming from abroad, do not miss this pub - easily in our top 10.

The Bannerman's is a really cool music bar. A lot of different types of drinks and nice staff. You'd rather like metal/hard rock music if you go there! The only tiny black spot is that as the bar is more or less settled in old caves it's kinda cold in winter, you may have to keep your coats and scarves inside.

Brilliant to have a Rock/Music bar like this in Edinburgh. The guy's were trying really hard to apply government covid regulations, such as table service, in/out doors,and really good cleaning, sanitizing practices all visably taking place. Excellent new music app now in place to listen to Bannermans bands with your headphones while in the bar. Great initiative!! My favourite bar! Well done guy's. Mark

Another place that does what it says on the tin, Bannerman's is very much a rock bar and is proud of it. The drink is cheap, the staff are efficient and the atmosphere is friendly. Having seen a few gigs here I can honestly say it is one of the best pub-venues in Edinburgh, the stage is low so you can see and get up close to the band - provided that's what you want ofcourse....

One of my favourites pubs in Edinburgh and a classic for upcoming new bands!!! Went there with my mate for a couple of pints (actually 3 Newcastle Brown Ales, aka Newkey Broon), as always a very lively atmosphere, busy environment, live music & very good service behind the bar. The barmaid efficiently dealt with a group of alcohol-over-the-limit punters avoiding the situation to escalate, great job & kudos to her!!!

We stumbled upon this place on our walk from Arthurs Seat- we saw the sign outside, whisky and music bar and it was in the bag. We did not get any whisky, we just got a couple of beers and headed towards the music room where it sounded like some fantastic eighties hair metal band was warming up for a night of fun on stage. There was some lovely rainbow lighting going on, two seperate areas for the bar and the band room. The people seemed very genuine and lovely here and I am sure it would get busy later on a weekend! Check it out if you are around!

The girlfriend and I were in Edinburgh as a little birthday treat for her, and she was adamant that we were going to have a "proper night out" to celebrate. Now, as I'm a couple of years older (I'm 22, she's 20), I find it increasingly harder to be able to muster the capability to have even a mediocre night out as I'm usually knackered by 2300, especially after clocking in a mammoth 10,000 steps in for three days on the trot. Her enviable albeit slowly perishing youth means that she has energy to spare so we hit the old town in search for a place to drink and listen to a bit of rock n roll. After we were turned away by a few places who didn't accept the Home Office-approved citizens card she wielded, our ears picked up the sound of Bannermans. This was the happiest accident of the trip by far. Bannerman's has good amounts of character, friendly bar staff, amazing music playing at a volume where you can hear one another slur an attempt at conversation which is something that I guarantee we wouldn't have got in the other venues we tried to gain entry to, and a nice comfy sofa to boot. But none of that was the centrepiece... No, Bannerman's boasts something that I had never set eyes on before, something I had been waiting to witness for a long time, something that gave me a big hug and let me know I was home for the night. They had Lagunitas IPA on tap. Get yourself to this place if you're in Edinburgh and appreciate good music and good people.

When I'm arrived to this bar first time, there are was unexpected show with Had PE. It's was awesome!

Always loved it here as a tourist and now a resident. It's grungy and that's the way I like it. The music scene is excellent (rock, metal, blues, folk) but taste dictates the night. They've had some famous people play here, including Alice Cooper, Wendy James, etc, and continue to do so. It's an iconic venue and pub. If they did food, even basics like toasties, this place would clean up. The whisky selection is brilliant and the prices very good for Edinburgh. It also does the one of the best Guinness's in the city I've had, this side of the UK, so far... The staff are amazing, nuts and beautiful, and the customers all friendly. It's like a second home to me. It's family and I adore it. Go. You shan't regret it.

By far THE BEST music venue on cowgate. If you’re a band, Bannermans is a must on a Saturday night. Stick around on a Sunday for probably the best sesh in town in Bannermans Sunday sessions with some of the best local artist around. The young lady who served us was really charming and the beer was good and there was live music in the bar. It's a great music venue I don't usually put anything negative but there is a really damp smell in the lounge, it was really putting my partner off I totally understand about the situation where bannermans is located. The gents were really humming too and the gig paper we took home turned out to be advertising gigs from October last year (chuck them out). It's a good place for gigs though and we will maybe just sit in the front bar next time we are in.

It's the only place in Edinburgh that we found that plays good music. Unless you are into pop or almost one-hit-wonders of the 70's and 80's... Then you can go anywhere! The staff is friendly and the drinks are good. Bonus: they were playing reruns of Star Trek!

Been here in the capacity of both a customer and performing artist, and can honestly say that this will always be one of my favourite venues to both drink in and play in.
