Reviews of Beehive Inn
A. K.
Amazing fish and chips. So far best ones I ever ate. We actually came back there twice during our weekend stay. Location with tables outside on Grassmarket was also very good. Recommended!
D. D.
Nice pub with good selection of beer. Friendly staff were very helpful. Enjoyed our visit.
P. P.
Really enjoyed our time here glad we picked The Beehive Inn for our lunch. Wife had a big fish and chips which she loved and i had the hot-pot which was just the ticket on a cold winters day.
M. K.
Very tasty whisky and great atmosphere with live guitarist plus excellent friendly service. What can I wish more?
K.
Great Green King run pub with the standard food and drink offerings. Nice location too. We sat outside in the square, although we were informed that the kitchen were not taking orders immediately which was fine, we were happy to wait with our drinks. No issues at all. Rosemary chips were great.
L. A.
Had a lovely meal with my daughter and son on the sun lovey staff aswell will b going bk on the Wed 2rd lovely pub aswell x
C. M.
My friend and I sat down for some dinner and a few drinks, the staff told us it would be around a 40 minute wait for the food. We paid for our food and a drink each before the food came to us. In that time we he went and purchased another drink from the bar while waiting for our food. After an hour and 15 minutes of waiting, finally a staff member said that only half of our order of sausage and mash was completed and ready, and that they ran out of the rest and offered us something else and promised it would be ready very quickly. My friend and I shared the one plate of food, and we're told the some other food of the menu was coming. After another hour and 15 minutes of still no food or servers, we took our things and walked away. So after paying collectively just over 40£, we received two drinks and one plate of food. Lacking in service, and would not recommend when it is during the dinner times or busier times of the day.
Since Beehive has reached out, they offered to bring us back in to dine on them. Super professional staff, and very generous of them to make up for our first poor experience. Thank you to the staff and owner for making our second visit much better, and would recommend to future diners.
C. B.
Absolutely lovely food for a meal and also has a lively beer garden at the back during the festival season (summer) with umbrellas to keep you in the shade if you need coming off.
The stunning old fashioned Street of the grassmarket is also a bonus when relaxing or eating.
Would definitely recommend!

Got the first review wrong! Who thought I'd been in two Beehives in a week!
Great place for watching the Grass Market people go by. Staff really good, proper pub food, good selection of beer. Outdoor space at the back for larger groups. Ideal for some time in Edinburgh.
K. H.
The Food was excellent and the beer was decent. I got a haggis, neep and tatties pie and was delicious. Wish it wasn't a 200 mile trip to get it again. I was in a group of about 8 and we all enjoyed our food.
l. b.
Had dinner here on our 1st and last night in Edinburgh. Friendly service, nice food and warm place to be on a cold night. Great beer selection and Steak and Ale pie is excellent.
E. B.
Aside from the drinks and prices i have to say the service was the best! everyone was sooo friendly and really added to the vibe. especially Egan, our server, he was lovely! very sweet and kind hope he is having a good day!
C. P.
Out of all the great pubs all over Edinburgh one of the okayish ones. Not bad in any way, but the competition is so strong, that we thought they should step up their game. The people there are warm and welcoming, but the food is just ok and the flair was a bit odd. Maybe just not our taste.
P. M.
Okay place for a quick lunch while we where visiting Edinburgh over the weekend. Reasonably priced too!
The lentil soup is absolutely lovely 🥄
We where a little disappointed in the kids meal, it was absolutely drenched in mayonnaise that wasn't mentioned on the menu.
j. k.
Great pub in the beautiful Grassmarket area. Good bartenders. Lively atmosphere. Good food. Nice seating inside and out.
S. S. (.
Nice little pub in Edinburgh, good selection of drinks. They had quite a bit of food out of stock though which was a shame. For a greene king pub it was pretty good :)
C. J.
The ale pies are very tasty. The pub/beer garden atmosphere is fun This place can be very busy so plan accordingly.
A. A.
Great place, good food and friendly staff. Tara was really attentive. We’ll definitely be back soon!
D. R.
Staff serving need a bit of training and attitude adjustments. Guinness was good but when asked for lager received a grunt and got served lager that was less than mediocre.
F. H.
Excellent food and a lovely stay! Many rooms and a beer garden offer place for a lot of people. The second and third floor are even more lovelier and are decorated in great style. The fish and chips are delicious!
I. S.
The food and drinks were really good and the staff was absolutely amazing, Tara was super nice and helpful!
m. g.
Had fish and chips with a pint after a long walk - hit the spot and Eden, Faith and Shania were very welcoming and attentive 👍
S. H.
Great food and service. Special thanks to Tara, she was great. Would 100% recommend :)
M. H.
Very touristy - lot of tv screens and some slot machines. Still, food was good and waitress was very kind.
M. B.
Really busy but decent price for a pint. If you arrive late on a Saturday or friday you will probably end up standing
S. W.
Not sure it's as good a pub as it was a few years ago, I think it's possibly changed hands or brewery. It's still a decent place with usually a good range of beers and ales, always busy and good atmosphere
Main reason of my visit was for the live comedy up on the top floor in the Comedy Attic. That is definitely worth booking tickets for.
D. C.
It was a lovely visit. Staff were welcoming, the place was clean, tidy and had a calm and nice atmosphere.
We were there for drinks only -which were lovely.
Wish we had ordered food as it looked lovely
Can't find any way of how it could have improved, so 5 stars!
B. R.
Stopped off for a cup of tea and shelter from the rain and ended up having a whiskey (local drop called Glenkinchie) after a recommendation from the gentleman who served me, great little pub, clean, warm, very busy and excellent staff!
S. N.
Lovely pub food reasonably priced friendly staff took me a while to get to grips with the app to order food but worth the wait.Had their steak and ale pie for 2. We had a bottle of prosecco £22 and 2 Heineken £57 total cost
E. L.
Great pub, was served by a blonde girl that couldn't have been lovelier helping us with our food and drinks. Will definitely be returning.
R. J. (.
During nice summer day, a pint of whatever you like was great there. Only been there for a short time, but seem fine.
L. C.
Having a well deserved afternoon / evening out in Edinburgh.
Decided to to have our tea at our old favourite, the Beehive Inn, on the grass market and were definitely not disappointed.
Lovely warm welcome from the staff and the food was delisious. Highly recommen anyone in Edinburgh give it a try
R. G.
The comedy attic is fantastic and so are the staff all round! Great selection of drinks, good seating and good atmosphere. The big fat bouncer though, is liability! It really kills excitement when the bouncer is lying about tickets being sold out when I could buy them on my phone (right in front of him). Get him sacked 👍
M. F.
Very busy pub, but was still welcoming. Food was really tasty and you certainly didn't leave hungry.
A. D.
Lovely food, relaxing environment. A few of us have lunch here occasionally because it's just a nice place to go.
T.
Overall 3 star rating, disappointing lack of wines available, chose 3, all unavailable, and a somewhat carefree unapologetic response from behind the bar. Food was tasty although pricy for a toasted sandwich and 9 chips.
T. w. D.
This was one of the best meals I had in Edinburgh, the fish and chips was very nice.
g. g.
Lovely staff, lovely business and great IPA.
D. B.
Nice friendly pub, we only popped in for a drink while Christmas shopping, but staff were friendly and the food looked good
S. M.
Proper old school pub with rooms over three levels. As a visitor to Edinburgh, I'm only in it a few times a year but the staff are always friendly and it makes for a good wee venue during the Fringe.
N. M.
Good well kept beer at sensible price. If drinking real ales they do accept CAMRA discount.
Also have a selection of Sport on the various TV’s.
B. G.
Really good bar in a superb location. Lovely atmospheric interior and a fantastic beer garden. Drinks selection superb but didn't have a meal so can't comment on that. Lovely staff too though so definitely worth a visit.
D. H.
My first beer in Edinburgh! This was an exciting trip. It was my first time over the pond and I only wanted to drink beer and eventually see my friend from Leeds get married. I know there is so much more to Edinburgh but I simply wanted to inject myself to the local bar scene. I do realize that this is a high tourist street but it was great to hear the thick accents. I was anxiuos to see if there is a difference between the Guinness here and the ones back in the states. There was a normal tempurature and there was a cold one. I chose the cold one because warm beer is not what I am used to drinking. I must say that there was a fuller flavor and more density to this Guinness. But after a couple of pints just about anthing goes down smooth. There are many bars and pubs to hit and its hard to recommend one over the other but this had everything I needed, cold beer.
T. M.
Delicious food despite being busy - it was expected due to being a Friday night.
Reasonably priced, friendly staff and very close to the castle.
J. N.
Nice friendly staff. Food menu didn't cater for vegetarians even though it said it did. When I asked the bar tender thru said he had nothing. Apart from that nice place.
r. b.
Good food and drinks,,,,a must visit pub when in the grassmarket in Edinburgh
E. L.
Great friendly service. Charlotte was an absolute star. Very attentive and nothing was an issue to her.
C. L.
A bustling and friendly pub.
Staff are friendly and chatty.
Lots of cask ales are on offer.
D. A.
Great cask beer selection. Tasty fish n chips
M. R.
Visited here to attend the comedy club in the Attic, had a brilliant night with my family. Had a few drinks before and after the gig, great atmosphere would definitely book tickets again next time we are in Edinburgh.
This is for Rick the compere on the night 👍 #badboywindowcleaner
E. S.
Nice pub with good choice of beers and tasty food (watch out for the spicy sauce of the chilli burger though), we had a good and relaxed dinner since the place wasn't crowded and the waitress let us try some beers before choosing which one to take, all the staff was really friendly. The only negative thing was a kinda of disturbing smell probably coming from the bathrooms but I guess it was just bad luck. Kitchen open until 9pm at least
B. T.
Delicious Chicken and Leek Pie and servers are delightful
A. T.
Lovely little pub. And the food is really good. Everytime we go to Edinburgh we take a visit. 🙂 worth a visit.
C. N.
The food was just OK. Really nothing special at all, and I don't mean to sound rude here, but it tasted like frozen food from the supermarket, only we were charged £35 for two main meals and 2 drinks, which is all a real shame. Also, a guy in the toilets could be heard snorting and coughing in a very suspicious manner... I decided to avoid him as I was unsure what to do.
It has quite a lovely layout and vibe, but was not impressed by the food (and the price of it) at all, sadly.
D. S.
Nice cosy place, great ambience to sit and have a beer with frndz and family. Amazing waiting staff. Enjoyed the food.
T. D.
Brilliant pub. Brilliant location. Brilliant staff.
A. C.
Amazing outdoor seating at the rear, lovely staff!
A. G.
Lovely food. Great service despite being really busy. Nothing was to much trouble. Highly recommend.
J. B.
Fantastic dinner, reasonably priced.Very attentive staff & great service. Will definitely be back
G. W.
Had a tasty meal and a pint. Pleasant staff & surroundings.
V. c.
Amazjng pub with good beer selection on tap and a friendly staff. Do visit this when near the royal mile.
J. S.
Loved the beehive.fabulous food & service.would really recommend.
J. T.
This is one of the typical Scottish Pubs that you can see in Grassmarket Square. At Beehive Inn you can have a great dinner but also only one or more beers and some snacks with friends.
P. L.
Food was amazing. Had the haggis pie and lamb hot pot.
G. K.
Nice pub. Lots of screens. Big for the grassmarket
T. H.
Just meh. Staff were great but it seemed to be lacking atmosphere and my onion rings tasted of fish 😆
B. R.
The Grassmarket was really busy and I went into so many places asking for a disabled toilet! This had one and we sat and had a wine around a barrel. Lots of students and a younger crowd but it was lovely.
T. E. E.
Nice pub , good beer and barstaff
p. b.
Really charming inside. Good pints. Will definitely be back
R. D.
Friendly attentive staff. Nice outdoor area in the beer garden at the back. Lots of screens. Charged my phone while we were dining and managed to watch the F1 which was a bonus
A. K.
I can highly recommend this place! Great selection of food and drinks and they show all the mayor football matches which is great!
J. N.
Merry Christmas to all! Had some amazing food today on Christmas Eve and excellent service.
O. M.
Very cozy place, different areas to sit, friendly staff, the GM is an absolute peach!
A. M.
Good pub and the food was tasty with a great menu. Catered to gluten free and vegetarian well. Beer selection pretty standard but wouldn't stop me going again
G. M.
Lovely bar, great atmosphere. Little pricey x
C. H.
charming pub set just behind Edinburgh castle.. well ok, just behind and down a LOT of steps! good service, good choice of drinks.
J. H.
I was here for Fringe. The ticket officers were lovely and very helpful. I had to be a bit careful though because the venue for the show was tiny, with seats side by side, and only about 4 out of 20-30 people were wearing face coverings.
G. H.
Beautiful bar, beautiful food and very friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere. It's a place you must visit
G. E.
Stunning food. Very fresh, called in for lunch & wasn’t disappointed. Chicken & bacon sandwich was gorgeous & pie was equally great. Staff were very friendly, hidden gem!
M. A.
Fabulous pub ,with a couple good sized and comfy venueu rooms, not small enough to be intimidating ,but not big enough to be soulless.Saw a couple of great stand up shows there. The bar itself is really good.lots of seating, inside ,outside on the grassmarket and outside in the wee beer garden.cosy friendly feel , efficient staff ,nice drink selection.
S. I.
Excellent vibe and the steak and ale pie is to die for.
K. M.
Nice surroundings, good choice of beers. Quite a few people were ordering food and the smell of the food was going round the heart, the meals looked amazing would definitely recommend
M. B.
Excellent pub. Good service.
l. r.
Brilliant location, but unless you are really desperate for a pint or have money to spare, I won't go there again. Yesterday I paid nearly £17 for 3 pints
A. B.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff, excellent service, highly recommended
M. B.
Food and drinks were nice, the staff very friendly and helpful
R. A.
Had an amazing evening here - the social distancing measures were well implemented, the drinks and service was spot on, and the beer garden is lovely in good weather. Thanks so much!
J. M.
Nice Atmosphere. Cheap drinks and the food was good
N. P.
Great pub in great location. Lovely bar staff who called a taxi for us on a very wet night.
D. K.
Great atmosphere but can't understand change in prices of wine from £14.98 last night to £18.58 tonight when I asked for house white both nights?
K. H.
Excellent service from Daniel and Josh! Nachos and beyond meat burgers were bang on. Would highly recommend, also nice beer garden was a huge plus
L. R.
Decided to have a late lunch while in Edinburgh and came to Beehive Inn and was not disappointed. Very Covid-19 aware and have a one way system in place. We sat outside with it been a nice day. Ordered food and drinks at the bar. The staff were friendly and helpful and informed us about track & trace and about how to order. The food was spot on and we would definitely go back when we are in Edinburgh again.
N. R.
Incredible food! warm and cosy atmosphere.
D. E.
Great little pub with comedy acts on upstairs fantastic
M. B.
Brilliant food, amazing wine and service with a great smile and understanding. This is truly a gem of fine dining forget vegi just enjoy be the best.
n. s.
Good friendly staff food very good
J. E.
Large open restaurant with a bright atmosphere. You must order at the bar and food is taken to the table. Our meals were well prepared but nothing to write home about. The bar is well stocked.
Beware of the scalding water in the bathroom!
I. M.
Food was fantastic and service was great
G. B.
Food and service is good. The only inconvenient is having to wait 45 minutes to eat and order drinks inside at the bar.
A. L.
Stopped off here during a rainburst whilst sightseeing around the old town. Nice cosy pub. The passionfruit gin is very nice!
P. J.
Rather unfriendly host on the door and then, once we were seated, we were just left to it. Ordered our food and drink via the app which arrived quickly. At least you don't have to tip!
J. B.
OK. Good scran on the menu;helpful staff. Had a fish finger ciabatta, yum.
W. l.
Would have given it 5 stars however when I went to meet my friend for lunch on Saturday the girl working the door was just down right rude!! Seriously no people be skills what so ever and deliberately awkward. The bar man was really polite and professional so I'm giving them 3 stars instead of 1.
J.
This pub set back in grass market. Worth the visit the food was amazing not had pub grub this spectacular in years
C. M.
Good venue, lovely food,
S. C.
Excellent venue for Hogmanay and felt safe with restrictions.
E. N.
Delicious!!!!! Pricey but soooooo good.
T. w. W.
Really fun pub and restaurant in Edinburgh. Yummy bar food and great service. Visited twice in the past six months always great! Busy in the summer but lovely and lively. Try the burgers, curry or fish n chips.
L. B.
Great food and staff but you have to book to ensure a table and the kitchen closes at 8:00pm.
G. P.
Good boozer with a beer garden if the weather's kind. Was through during Edinburgh fringe and saw a comedian upstairs. Show was fantastic and there was even a bar upstairs. Great place for a show. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending
C. B.
Fairly big pub with a large beer garden out the back. The food is rather mediocre though.
M. G.
I'd say, without exaggerating, that I ate the best fish & chips of my life!
A. S.
Love the place.. ..great ambience and nice people. quite cozy and brilliant staffs. Although they don't serve any food or snacks..a bit off ..but ready id fine. Food is served upstairs only so one has to go upstairs for it. You would love the TV screens and seating p around. but the lighting within the pub is great and it's very well located within the grassmarket, an upmarket area in Edinburgh.
K. M.
Had a great time, staff were amazing and we got to see a comedy act while we were there because of the Edinburgh Fringe!
J. P.
Too busy to sit inside but the bouncer was very accommodating and cleared a table for us outside
B. M.
Nice pub with good service, plenty of food options on the menu, with changing specials. Lots of drink options. Location is good and not far from the castle (although a lot of steps up to it). Clean, tidy and well presented. Found it fairly busy at lunch time.
L. J.
Great location for fringe festival. Decent drinks and food. Would definitely visit outside of the festival
S. W.
Excellent pub in the grass market plus dig friendly great friday and Saturday night out with music and dancing
M. P.
Excellent food and beer. If you want a quieter atmosphere, go upstairs. There is a limited amount of seating, but it's very quiet, and there are no TVs. Very enjoyable after a long day of sightseeing. The pulled pork jacket potato is amazing, as is the Millionaire's Cheesecake dessert.
S. M.
Great atmosphere and even greater staff
F. C.
This is a find a table and order at the bar kind of place. That being said, service was quick, the food came quickly and it was delicious. I highly recommend the burger that comes with haggis, it's so good. Beer was also good and the atmosphere was wonderful.
S. E. E.
Nice hidden beer garden at the back of the pub is a gem. Really nice to sit under the castle and enjoy a drink. Would be better if you could stay later than 10pm outside but due to licencing laws you can't. Friendly staff and nice food too!
Would recommend for a quick stop!
K. W.
Wonderfully friendly place , full of the festival atmosphere with friendly staff and good food and ales couldnt ask for more
n. b.
Good central location. Good food, good selection. Halloumi and fries were popular with our group
M.
Great selection of real ales and craft beers.
THE best beer garden in Edinburgh, with a BBQ and outdoor bar.
4 stars due to the price, rather expensive even for Edinburgh, but that does not reflect on the experience or atmosphere.
T. B.
Lively pub in Edinburgh Old Town. A visit to its late night comedy club is recommended if you have a sense of humour!
R. V.
Fun comedy nights, but the bar is expensive and has a limited selection.
d. s.
Very good pub garden. Pity it wasn't opened up completely. Lovely staff Very friendly
M. G.
Great place! Staff is friendly and very capable of handling the amount of tourists that come in to this bar. Walk in, choose a table (make sure to leave something at the table to let others know it's taken) and then order food and drink at the bar. Can get quite busy, but still a gem of a place.
P. S.
Decent, food was a bit slow at times. Lots of space upstairs if you don't book
K.
watched some comedy upstairs, good venue comedians were great and drinks service friendly and efficient
p. s.
Lovely pub with friendly staff, dog friendly which was perfect as we had our pooch with us
N. A.
Busy place which is always a good sign.
L. T. S.
Decent enough pub but there was no food on when we arrived as kitchen closed that day.
D. C.
One of the most friendly pubs I have been to. Took great care of me, my children and my dog when we came in from a downpour. Had some food here and it was great
X. U.
Great place with front patio, nice indoors and hidden giant back patio. Worth a stop for a pint.
L. G. (. L.
Bit on the pricey side, booze tasted watered down a little
C. “. C.
Great friendly atmosphere, attentive staff, and the food is well priced and offers a good verity, quality of the food is excellent, good range of drink and again the price is reasonable. Will definitely be back on my next visit to the city.
R. H.
Lovely pub, just like you want a pub to be. Good sellection of beers.
A. S.
Had a great time here with friendly staff, locals, and tourists alike. The haggis fritters were to die for! (Honestly my first time trying haggis though.) I just wish you could open a tab. Met here for the Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour which was hilarious and I highly recommend - an evening well spent.
S. B.
Good pub style food, a selection of lagers and ales, seating inside and out.
A. F.
Tried the haggis, the big fish & chips and two desserts (3 chocolate something plus churros with something else). Loved everything. The personnel was kind and service was good. As with other pubs , kids are allowed until 8 pm.
K. T. B. &. S. I. F. D.
Great pub, Raymond Mearns show was fantastic would always recommend him, first class comic
ד. י. מ.
Nice location, nice people, good food (onion rings)
A. S.
Good busy pub. Just watched rugby, packed but had a seat. Great. Need to put the commentary on though downstairs for such events. Good mix of locals and tourists.
H. D.
Decent pub food. Always very busy and long waits for service during the fringe
J. V.
A local pub. Cozy. Good food and full bar.
J. C.
Nice pub with good food. Very busy during peak season, have to wait around to try and catch a seat. Big outdoor area. Self service. Slightly spoilt but the sheer number of people however they do really well to deliver good food at a reasonable rate considering this.
L. V.
After walking through a very busy Edinburgh we were looking for a bar with outside seating. Everywhere we walked past was packed. Even inside most were so packed that it was uncomfortable to stand. So we ended up settling for this bar. It was very inviting. We decided that we’d have to stand outside. The bar was not too packed but the seats were all taken. While at the bar we saw that it had a ‘beer garden’! WHAT A GEM!!! HUGE outside space on three levels, away from the busy front of house. Very comfortable. Its own bar. Umbrellas to keep off too much sun or rain. Sports TV’s. Such a find!! Although we didn’t eat this time, food did look delicious. I will definitely go back here next time I’m in Edinburgh.
M. C.
One of my favourite pubs in town, great atmosphere, great drinks and food. One of the classier drinking holes you'll find along grassmarket or old Town for that matter.
I've got to say it definitely has one of the best beer gardens in town, it's worth a visit for the garden alone, especially on a rare sunny day.
A. L.
This is a nice little pub in the popular Grassmarket area of Edinburgh. It has good function facilities with a large function room upstairs. This pub shows sports on several large screens in the bar area which is good for football fans. The staff are polite and service is always fast however the drinks are on the expensive side paying £2.80 for a glass of Coca-Cola. I also paid a staggering £5.25 for a bottle of Kopparberg Raspberry cider. It's got a nice atmosphere and in a good location but I think that is definitely reflected in the price. This is not a place for cheap drinks.
D. H.
Great pub in the heart of Edinburgh, this is not a modern gastro pub where the bar is mainly restaurant tables. This is a loud, funny drinking den. Put your phones down and step back into a time when people went to the pub and talked to strangers and friends. Enjoy it....
P. P.
Nice steak, good beers.
P. M.
Pub itself is nice enough with a traditional Scottish decor, but without doubt THE best beer garden in Edinburgh.
Huge outdoor space set over multiple levels with patio heaters, large amount of chairs/tables and surrounded by trees traditional architecture.
Never ordered food but the menu had plenty to choose from and the other people's dishes looked appetising.
If you're in Edinburgh in the summer months it's definitely worth a visit.
M. M.
Visited on a cold January day and found a lovely welcoming pub with very good grub and a great selection of real ales. The staff were so friendly and as it was quiet, I was allowed to sample some ales before deciding which I liked best. I reccomend the Beehive to travellers and locals alike. You will love it.
D. M.
Reasonable food and good beer. A famous grass market attraction which has been their forever. Popular although not as good as it used to be as the food has got a little worse over the years and they have loads of competition.
t.
Food looked dead on though didn't have any. Friendly staff, great selection of beers, plenty of seating, sport on TV, large outdoor area, good location and clean toilets. Hard to fault.
J. E.
Amazing place, the live comedy was absolutely brilliant. Cannot reccomend this place enough!
a. r.
Took too long to get the appropriate apps to then order drinks, once that was sorted, everything was great.
D. N.
Pretty nice place but the bar quiz machine does not work
H. M.
Massive tiered beer garden which is great for outdoor drinking in the summer. decent beer selection, good vibes inside too. good location on grassmarket close to other pubs and restaurants.
L. L.
Nice drink and nice area 👍
j. w.
My husband and I have a lovely meal in the beehive inn friendly staff serving meal will be back when in Edinburgh

Beehive is a large pub with lovely food and good service. It has a large garden with big TVscreens and a bar for drinks. Service is usually fast but it can get crowded at peak times. For beer lovers, it has a long selection to choose from. Nice place for families, couples and groups.
L. G. (. L.
Bit on the pricey side, booze tasted watered down a little
L. S.
Nice beer garden to the rear of the property.
K. M.
Fast, friendly service.
A. K.
I recommend to you the haggis, the traditional Scottish meal with a pint of beer.
P. G.
Brilliant pub.
D. N.
Pretty nice place but the bar quiz machine does not work
S. R.
Great location and a nice ambience. A bit overpriced, though.
G. B.
Food and service is good. The only inconvenient is having to wait 45 minutes to eat and order drinks inside at the bar.
R. R.
Good location and friendly staff
J. S.
Great service and excellent food!!
M. L.
Really good, friendly service! Relaxed atmosphere.
d. s.
Food & service great
C. B.
Nice pub food and good atmosphere. We had to wait some minutes for the food but they informed us about that when we ordered. Too bad it closed at 11PM, but it was a Tuesday after all.
I. B.
Very good, drink cheap enough, staff quit nice ,Bouncers friendly enough. Some would-be snobs come in late so they can go tut tut (get a life )if they see some people had a few.But apart from the sado,s the place is lovely.
조.
Well at least i got nice food (haggis) with good ale, and friendly service. Couldn't ask more. But, everyone's experience is different. So i understand those mixed reviews. But from my experience i would recommend this place
J. D.
Fabulous place with good pub fare. Their fish'n'chips is awesome. I just wish they would dispense with the frozen peas. Accepts children. Great location just off the Royal Mile.
c.
Beer was good as it is all around the world but the price was not great £5.45 for a pint was starting to really hurt the pockets I could almost feel them shriveling up. Service was good only complaint was the price
L. B.
Very nice beer garden to the front... Gets plenty of sunsgine during the day, whe it's shining of course. There's definitely a tourist premium on the cost of pints though, £5.45 for a pint of IPA, i mean, i'd struggle to find that kind of price in London!
A. H.
Lovely wee pub popped in for a drink before heading to the Edinburgh Tattoo. Didn't have anything to eat but from what I saw the food looked good, and empty plates all round. The place was really busy. Would go back if only to try the food.
S. F.
Great pub, reasonable prices (for Edinburgh) busy atmosphere where young and old seemed to be enjoying themselves. Lots of tv's without being overpowering (that were showing the darts tournament when we were there)
T. H.
Very polite staff quick service . Great amenities and spotless washrooms .Excellent location .
K. M.
Can't really comment on the hotel aspect but as a local, I think this is one of the best in the Grassmarket area. Admittedly, for drinking there are better alternatives in the immediate vicinity outside Grassmarket, but I don't fault this place either - decent food, good seating, pleasant atmosphere, and central location - what's not to like?
A. R.
Nice Pub with good food.
D. M.
Great service and efficient! Great place to watch the game yesterday. Good booze!
S. M.
It is a lot better to drink in the beer garden than it is to drink inside this pub. The pub has a decent selection of beers but is slightly soul-less. A bit of a commercial, heartless pub, but pleasant enough all the same.
j. m.
Excellent as always, nice fresh crisp pint off Asspell cider.no complaints.
T. T.
Nice pub in the city centre of Edinburgh. Good selection of beverages and food to match. Excellent fish and chips and steak and ale pie!
a. p.
Interesting staff.. very helpful.
M. M.
Is a really nice place, it has a lovely decoration, with great food, I just think that you should keep an eye on the service when you are in the rush hour, because it become a little slowly in that moments, that was my feeling when I was there.
Z. F.
This is a great pub with arguably the best beer garden in Edinburgh, which looks up at the dominating castle. The beer prices are what you expect in the city so I don't understand everyone's complaint. They have a variety of real ales on tap and have won numerous awards with CAMRA. All in all, an amazing Scottish heritage pub!
l. l.
Great place to sit and watch the world by in The Grassmarket. Friendly helpful staff.
A. M.
Loads of seating space so don't worry about being left standing, although I would recommend getting down early on a weekend night as it does get quite busy sometimes. The pints are quite expensive but that is to be expected in central Edinburgh.
P. L.
Good bar, decent beer garden. Managing with COVID regulations well.
S. R.
Friendly place door and bar staff helpful as i have mobility issues
G. M.
Solid pub with nice intimate venue upstairs.
E. T.
Great beers, food and a sweet beer garden out the back
N. Z.
Good place to go for a drink although waiting in line to order takes more time than expected, huge variety of drinks and personnel are very nice.
R. S.
Attended a fringe comedy show here in the attic. Was small-ish venue but the crowd got into so atmosphere was good. Normal city centre festival prices.
T. M.
One of Grassmarkets many pubs, good atmosphere, decent selection of beers, and classic pub food all at reasonable prices.
However, all the staff wearing the same uniform does make it feel a bit "McPub" like.
D. S.
Can't really give a proper rating , I was only there for a quick pint . Price of pint was good , lowest price . Busy place lucky to get a seat , it was a Saturday afternoon .
s. l.
Yeah, it's ok for what it is... Standard pub chain really.
The Beehive Inn is located on the Grassmarket. It has two bars, one on the ground floor, another upstairs, where there is a 100 seat dining area too. The pub has a mixture of timber panelling old style décor, with trendy contemporary wallpaper. The pubs main selling point is the HUGE bear garden out the back. It has a fantastic view of the castle and there are loads of seating for sun worshipers. There's even push button canopy heaters for those in search of an artificial summer!
I'd not been here since my student days, but I found they do comedy nights on Thursdays (for up and coming comedians), Friday and Saturdays for the established comedians for £7, which can be fun. Comedy standards are a bit hit and miss, but they come from all over the UK and are all ages, last time there was a young 17 year lad on the stage and he was actually very funny! Although I suggest you only pay a visit once and a while. We visited on a Friday night once in March, then again in May and recognised the comedians doing the same sketches. Still funny, but the jokes were wearing thin the second time round!
Weekends here can get pretty packed with students, tourists and hen/stag doos. I've often seen people dancing in the main bar area, which isn't that common for pubs - so it's nice to see everyone enjoying themselves. It adds the pub crawl up of Grassmarket, but other than it has a decent beer garden, I wouldn't give it a second look.
K. R.
Great food and service
S. B.
Great beer garden which is heated and covered so it's a perfect venue for a cigar. Great selection of beers too. Food is top notch and very well priced
M. M.
Went for the Chicken and mushroom pie. I was not disappointed, the crust was beautiful, and the flavours well balanced. I loved that the vegetables weren't cooked to death.
T. L.
The Beehive Inn not only has a great spot on the Grassmarket, but it also has a large beer garden in the back that many people don't know about! There is a whole outside bar to go with it, although mainly the big-name brands have a presence outside so you have to pop inside get get your craft beer and bring it outside.
I enjoyed the Beehive's large number of Free Fringe comedy shows taking place upstairs during the Fringe, and it was also fantastic to enjoy a drink outside on the relaxing beer garden in summer!
C. M.
Always visit as the atmosphere is good and lively. The food is typical pub grub but served fast even on busy occasions.
J. S.
Great bar but drinks very pricey. You must see Raymond Mearns, best comedian at the fringe. Love the beer garden!
S. T.
Lovely boozer, nice food and great staff
T. G.
Decent place with large beer garden that is good for large groups. Beers was expensive though compared to everywhere else i drank in Edinburgh (though perhaps similar to other places on the grassmarket, but of a tourist trap apparently)
s. h.
After spending 3 days in City found this inn on last day. What a find warm friendly atmosphere. friendly staff. inn is the cleanest we have visited. Food was fresh and tasty. A welcome find.
M. F.
We only went there for drinks and football-watching. Bartenders are friendly, beer selection is good, DJ plays great 80's tunes, and people watching is amusing.
P. P.
Popular Nicholson's chain pub, tradition, good order, nicely decorated, and good service. Attracts a slightly older more discerning crowd, with music and a nice atmosphere.
A. C.
Amazing food and enjoyed a hilarious performance in the fringe here.
M.
Good food good beer can't go wrong 👌
E. W.
Nice atmosphere very busy, staff lovely
A. S.
Great location with good outdoor space out front and in the beer garden. Good range of beers and good is typical pub grub but ok
C. R.
A long time favourite. Great ales and a very nice place to be if you want to watch the world go by or watch the telly.
S. W.
A classic, old school Edinburgh pub. Intimate with a nice atmosphere. A good selection of beers and whisky
J. K.
Decent enough place. Nothing special, but a good place to stop off for a pint on the way into town. In the lively Grassmarket, so plenty of places nearby, and a bustling atmosphere at the weekends.
A. S.
Staff are great here. A nice traditional bar with lots of different areas to sit, including a beer garden. Good for functions also.
w. B.
Always enjoy coming here
G. H.
Really nice time in beer garden. Staff are really strict and adhere to all guidelines. Really good to see.
F. N.
Lovely spot, great seating in the back garden!
K. H.
Very famous Edinburgh hostelry in the Grassmarket. Also has a good food selection. On a sunny day you can eat or drink outside and people watch.
J. B.
Great staff and space to chill out. Food OK...basic but filling. Nice beer garden.
T. B.
WE did not visit the pub looking from outside it looked clean tidy. menus looked good. will visit again with proper review here is image of outside.
M. A.
Lovely pub Lovely staff aspall cider on tap food nice bit over priced.
C. R.

Would definitely recommend and visit again
S. G.
Nice place, quick decent pub grub. Staff very helpful
C. C.
Great pub, great staff.
Just stopped in for a couple of drinks on our walk around the city
J. N.
4 stars as a drinking establishment, no worries there. 2 stars for food, bland and interesting but certainly of good quality. Probably serves the locals who like that.
P. M.
Air conditioning is either broke or non existent. Unbearably hot inside!
K. m.
Pleasant pub on the grassmarket. Decent selection of drinks and a backroom for groups. Although the opening times aren't as advertised on Google during weekdays.
D. C.
Went to watch the game. Food was good, service too. But took until 20minutes after kick off for the staff to work out how to change the channel though.
K. H.
Decent boozer, good location for other pubs and restaurants. We saw a comedy gig there durin the festival and it was a great intimate venue for comedy
C.
This place is always very busy, expect somewhat slow service due to this. Drinks and food are good and fairly priced but nothing special.
A. E.
Decent choice of drinks. The beer garden is a must on a sunny day. Only bad point is that it gets extremely busy at the weekend.
t. n.
Very average food. Need to up their game
G. M.
Acceptable but very touristic place. Rather expensive for what it offers. Long que just to order your meal. Won't come back...
R. W.
Pseudo chain pub with beer garden and seating out front on the piazza. Food is good value and done well. Plays live sports.
R. C.
Really good beer garden and cracking suntrap but also plenty of shade. Can watch the football outside also but there isn't any volume because of the neighbours.
B. K.
Great laidback pub to get a beer and some food. We went here with Easter and had a great time. Quick service and friendly staff.
D. A.
A friendly pub with a very well-stocked bar. Dropped in for an afternoon pint and a break from the drizzle. Good hot snacks too!
K. M.
Place smelled a bit funky but the atmosphere was nice. They have a good beer selection
S. H.
Was a bit too expensive for me as it cost £10.05 for a pint and a bottle of cider. But the beer garden was nice and it had a nice atmosphere
S. M.
Was I over the weekend and was a great little pub. Nachos were amazing .
S. M.
Cosy wee pub. Looks like a good menu but not tried food. Staff could be friendlier and as usual in Edinburgh prices are on the high side.
S. R.
Great location and a nice ambience. A bit overpriced, though.
B. S. (.
Amazing place, the burgers are so good! The fish and chips too
They also serve typical Scottish beers
K. A.
Wonderful, helpful staff, nice atmosphere and not too shabby prices. The garlicbread is to DIE for! Food was delicious!
j. s.
There's an upstairs dining area that is much quieter in the evenings than the pub. Typical pub food, good but nothing stands out.
d. D.
Nice pub, great beer garden on multiple levels. A nice spot. Yet to try the food.
A. J.
Great venue with 2 upstairs rooms for Fringe shows.
Food OK, nothing special.
Good range of beers
C. G.
Great food and friendly staff!
A. G.
One of the many grassmarkets pubs/restaurants. Lively location.
W. T.
Old worldy pub centered the grassmarket area of Edinburgh. Has to be good as for being such a popular spot for tourist visitng.
v.
Good quality, fast service and relatively cheap. Drinks are absolutely extortionate. £4 for cola is my only complaint!
D. B. d. O.
Nice place, good food.
S. C.
Nice pub worth a visit.
i. c.
Popular pub venue with small seating area out front and large secluded garden at the rear - just don't turn up in a stag or hen.
D. P.
Discovered the hidden back Biergarten on a July sunny day... walk through the bar and sit in the shade with a view of the castle. No brainer.
B. B.

F. W.
The food was served in large portions and it tasted great! The staff was friendly:) The price was okay, we expected a little less.
A. B.
Probably the cheapest pub in Newcastle, has a good local atmosphere, a bit smelly if in the area of the toilets, more of a standing pub due to its small size.
S. A.
Fabulous pitstop between a busy tourist schedule. Tasty food in a place with a cosy atmosphere.
Z. S.
Amazing food. My compliments to the chef. Lovely staff 👍
G. R.
The Beehive Inn is situated in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh's Old Town. It has good pub food, a good range of drinks and a nice beer garden at the back.
N. J.
Nice place, food is good, but a bit on the expensive side, compared with establishments in the vicinity.
P. G.

Not the best pizza around but the staff were great and the outdoor seating during the fringe is great.

Rude manager, English girl, needs some hospitality and common sense training. Shame as its a nice pub.
