Awesome place, we've been there few years ago and came back last Friday, as we moved in to Edi. We had good memories of this rock bar so we decide to pop in for a pint and acually stayed whole night. Extremely cool staff, cool music and what's a great surprise - spotless toilers :D Totally recommended!

Such a great little pub. Myself and a few work colleagues went after flying to Edinburgh on a Monday evening, it was busy for a Monday but still able to maintain distance. The bar staff were lovely and there's a pool table. Bar and toilets were clean.

This pub is excellent. Lots of bar staff so waiting isn't long. It's a good rock bar so expect rock and metal tunes from the jukebox and dudes and ladies from that world. Don't be put off,it's mostly peaceful. Always a stop when I'm in town.

It wasn’t my cup of tea, however if you’re a big fan of metal then this is the place for you. I personally found it quite hard to get served, and it was uncomfortably loud, so much so that you couldn’t hear to talk to one and other. Even the bar staff seemed to struggle understanding what we were asking for. Other than that, the venue was close to plenty of other bars & was a great place to drop in for a quick pint!

This pub hidden on the corner of big street is a treasure ! The staff are amazing and very cool. Lots of beer to chose from and for the amazing price ! You have to go there. Forget about all this pricey pubs in old town. This is were you want to enjoy your time. Toilets are clean. Nice people coming here. You can play pool. They dont serve food but as the barman told me, you can try nice and not expensive food from near shops. This pub has a feel and music is great. Jewel in the heart of edinbourgh !

One of a very limited Rock oriented bars in the city. A good selection of beers on tap, plenty Bourbon and Whisky to choose from too. Pool table, darts and a great Jukebox selection. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Well worth a visit for any Rock fan.

Absolutely amazing, so far better than the playview. I was so disappointed by the playview trying to stop me talking. Complete Nazis and fascists but right nearby was the black bull and honestly good people. I'm sorry this has gone wayward but just goes to show. Other wetherspoons were better. The Black Bull gave Edinburgh a lil respect.

Seemed pretty good. My partner used to go here a fair bit and remembered it always had some great music on. When we went, it was a Saturday night, and it was moderately busy, but not heaving. The staff seemed friendly and happy, which is cool. The only thing was, instead of the great rock classics I was told about, it was some hardcore metal playing. Now, this isn't an issue in itself, being a teen in the 00s, I'm quite partial to some metal myself, but the volume it was at didn't allow for a great pub atmosphere, it squandered it. Even some of the folk who seemed regular made a joke about it being too loud. While I'd recommend the pub for a good selection of drinks and friendly staff, maybe a decibel or ten lower on the music, and we'd be rolling!

If you regularly make like the Ronnie James and throw the metal salute this will be your home from home (no Gene yer no taking credit for this, so back off!). Recently refurbed (2 working loos now ladies!) and with it's management back in safe hands the Bull has truly got it's heart back. Prices reasonable, great tunes, friendly punters and staff. One pinball machine, Batman. Oddly positioned in a walkway, right under a speaker. Music genre is heavy metal, turned up pretty loud. Smokers standing by the front door which is at the bottom of a stairway, and their second-hand smoke blew straight back in. Staff was friendly making change.
