Decent bar. Happy to see the traditional bar decor with wood panels. It's a crucial part of the pub vibe! TV in the main room. They had it on YouTube with a first person perspective of a train journey which was entrancing and relaxing. They have art and couches in the back room, which is where students sit normally. Good selection of beers. I had a single malt whisky, that was expensive (nearly 10 pound for a double) but was worth it.

This is one of my favourite pubs to get a drink at. There's always so much variety to choose from on tap. The staff were friendly in giving new suggestions to try and the Armadillo IPA was great!

Just to let you all know: you won't find a real monkey made of brass inside. However, after the initial misunderstanding, once you get in you right away understand what this place is: it is in fact a place. You can find couches, stools and chairs. These tools are particularly useful because you won't have to stand. These are only for customers tho. Staff usually stands behind the bar. There are other places that this place is not. Here's a list 1. The colosseum 2. The pyramids 3. The Statue of Liberty 4. The North Pole I could list some more but I won't. The best thing is that when you get in you'll be able to understand if it is day or night. If you get in at noon it is likely that outside would be day and very unlikely to be night

Quirky student pub with a lounge area where you can really lounge on communal beds and a chess room where the tables are all chess boards. Decent beer and a range of other drinks at good prices.

Hands down one of the best pubs for all ages in Edinburgh , the are different types of seatings for Every type of group for a night out even if it's friends or couples. Prices are normal for Edinburgh standards. Kinda packed in the bar but pretty much effective and reliable service. Bathroom was kinda messy but it was peak time so you can't actually blame them. Will visit again and again and again.

Brass Monkey has a great atmosphere and an amazing little room full of couches and sofas for you to kick back with your mates on. They do a very well known Bloody Mary shot which is out of this world! Absolutely amazing, it's hot and spicy. First reactions are usually "that's horrible", but in a few minutes you'll want another!

On Monday 31/08/20, around 15:30 me and my friend again visit that lovely place. We wait for a sit. When tall girl with dark blond ''pony tail'' came to us she didn't ask any think like, for example: how are you guys? nothing at all to any of us. We could see she is in not good mood but anybody can have worse day... With order I ask if I can swap mozzarella hot dog for vegan sausage with wasn't very important( I thing this new vegan sausage in brass monkeys is very tasty ) but the woman immediately says that no problem so I just finish my order and thank her. We were sitting some 3 maybe 4 meters from the till ,( I think on the table was old number 10 and on the wall 15) so we could see perfect and hear most of the conversation close to this till. She raise her voice, she sound at least not happy with us when she repeat a I thing 2 times unusual order she was moving in nervous ways and gesticulate by hand for me something ( with all respect and sympathy ) like many exited Italian people with I work with. I was thinking to leave before food is ready but I didn't want to make a scene. I felt very sad cos I didn't want to make such a problem for some of the stuff. Rest of the service was very professional and positive, Waiter with I think dark blond hair till around shoulders and maybe a bit shorter than previous lady. He did really lovely service and we told him to keep tip for himself.

Love this place! Cool comfy sofas/beds to chill out on in the other room. I think they must screen films there occasionally. We came of a Friday night and it was so busy but still has a cool atmosphere. A lot of people seemed offended by the sofa/beds wherever we are calling them! So be warned people you might see kissing couples and PDA 🤣🤣

Very relaxed bar/pub, with a cozy and friendly feel to it. The drinks are inexpensive, and there are student deals available if you show a valid student card. Seating is either normal chairs or tables, or large cushions in the back, which are comfortable and much less formal. Board games and party games are available from the bar

Popular with students and theatre staff, it's a decent wee pub with quite a dark feel. There's an unusual chill-out bed type area up the back where the whole room is fitted with a raised spongy carpet with big cushions to lounge around on or watch a film on their projector screen. The pipes really needed a clean both times I've been in recently so the beer wasn't great but it's a good place to hang out

Fantastic little public house offering an excellent selection of curated hand pull ales as well as a fine selection of kegged Beers, ciders and wines. The fridges have a good selection of both bottled and canned Beers and ciders as well as a good selection of wines and even sherry. The food menu is traditional fare and looked well presented. The pub itself is a beautiful building and well worth stopping by.

One of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh. Very decent prices considering it’s central location in the old town. Lovely friendly staff with a wide selection of drinks. You can even grab a board game and chill with friends. Can often get quite busy, so I would definitely recommend grabbing a table early!

(Kinda like a massive bed you share with strangers whilst getting drunk...) Prices and staff are very good. Food isn't brilliant though. If after something a bit different, try the Bounty Bar cocktail. Delicious!

My local pub in Edinburgh. What can I say, if I explain to you that it was like the sitting-room I did not have at the hostel where I was staying. It has given me great moments, a place to work on my thesis during the day time, to enjoy the afternoon sun in the summer in the outside tables. Good music and better people.

Nice little eclectic pub that has a great atmosphere and a great selection of bottled beers and ones on tap. Music selection is generally quite varied, leaning towards the ones you most likely grew up with. The pub has several smaller cubby holes through to the rear where you can seclude yourself a way with a small group of friends if you wish making this one of the great wee finds in town. Also, most importantly, it has a proper old school style arcade cabinet through the back!

The Brass Monkey is a little bar that can be great to meet up with a friend and have a few drinks if you are heading out in the Old Town part of Edinburgh. A pretty good selection of beers are available for you to sup whilst enjoying the selection of film posters and vinyls on the wall. At the back of a bar is a small cinema room where there are regular showings which you can watch whilst sat on very comfy sofas that fill the room.

Not to be confused with The Brass Monkey on Leith Walk - this place has been going a bit longer, and has a different atmosphere. Pretty standard in terms of bar staff/selection, and the front of house can be pretty cramped at times - but if you are able to score a seat through the back in the cinema or in one of the wee nooks then you're set for a decent evening! Cheap rum. Anywhere that has cheap rum is good, and this place has an interesting selection.

The Brass Monkey is one of my favourite Edinburgh pubs, hands down. Dark and a little dingy, it isn’t really known for its real ale although it does have hand pumps, but its one of the city’s best bars to pull a stool up at. Plus daily films are shown in the back room. Lovely staff.

A lot of good reviews here already!... And here's another! Thumbs up to this place, they've ticked a lot of boxes! Cinema in the back - lots of different areas to sit - good selection of drinks - friendly atmosphere - central - relaxed vibe - cheap 'drink and food' deals. It can get pretty busy at the weekends, you have to squeeze yourself to the bar, but that's just because it's so popular! I often visit here for the hangover cure of all hangover cures! And I'm willing to share the secret with you guys! The Monkey Bloody Mary! They put all sorts in this saviour, it hard to keep track! It's something along the lines of vodka, port, red wine, tabasco, lea and perrins, chilli, spices, pepper and thick tomato juice... A meal in itself! One of these will see you right I can assure you. It's pretty spicy so will probably knock any signs of a cold for six too! Toilets are unisex (well, the hand washing area is) it's a bit confusing but usually creates a shy giggle for the first-timers!

A favourite haunt of mine, The Brass Monkey is tucked away from the regular hustle and bustle that pollutes South Bridge. With its midweek film showings, propensity for Weihenstephan, and an entire room full of beds, The Brass Monkey has a bohemian vibe that is reflect in its various film posters scattered across the backroom. The staff are brilliant, and on Wednesdays the bar plays host to Dr Paul and his legendary quizzes. It can be a bit on the pricey side, but if you have a student discount it'll knock some money off your drinks.
