Came here on a Friday evening for dinner with a friend. We were sat at a table near the back, so it was quiet without losing the atmosphere. The service was impeccable - attentive and the servers had a sense of humour, which always helps. The food was delicious - really fresh and tasty. Good portion sizes. I thought it was reasonably priced. Would happily come back here!

I mean, it's Hector's. Hector's, we all know Hector's. Decent ambience, plentiful choice of drinks, pleasant staff; it's a Stockbridge stalwart and what it might lack in other ways (why on earth is it always so chilly in there?) it makes up for by being consistent. Which is why it's been nearly a week and I'm still trying to get my head round what on earth happened last Sunday when I experienced a meal so baffling that it's moved me to break a long embargo on writing reviews for free. To be clear, the staff are still pleasant, the ambience decent and the drinks choice plentiful and yes, it was still unreasonably chilly. Plus ca change. We fancied a roast for lunch, so I broke with type and ordered a nut roast. I like nut roast. I've had many a nut roast over the years. What came out of the kitchen after a rather too lengthy wait was not a nut roast. After a diligent search, I did find (literally) one or two nuts in it. The rest of it was composed of two layers, one of which seemed to be largely grated carrot and courgette; disappointingly lacking in nuts and pulses, but so far, so palatable. The top half, however. Now, I can't positively assert that what the top half of my nut roast was made of was granola. I can say that it looked like granola. I can say that it tasted and smelled exactly like granola - yes, the sweet breakfast food complete with seeds and dried fruit - would had it been roasted. I can say that my friend was positive that it was granola. But I can't be sure, because - and this is where the confusion arises - what on earth would inspire someone who had ever encountered any of these foodstuffs before to add sweet granola to the top of grated vegetables and call it a nut roast and then pour a bit of gravy on it and pretend like that was not only OK, but totally normal? I was confused. I am confused. I will be confused until someone explains this to me. They were very busy (because it's Hectors), which is probably for the best as if anyone had actually asked whether everything is alright with our meal I probably would have struggled to marshal my thoughts even more than I am currently with the benefit of a few days' reflection. I mean, I'm not even mad, just wildly confused. In the interest of balance, the Yorkshire pudding was delicious and the potatoes were fine, but if you're looking for a vegan/veg option I'd avoid this particular offering unless you're in the mood for a baked breakfast with added gravy-type experience. Hector's is still fine. But this was weird.

Excellent pub with screens and good selection of food and drinks! Staff always welcoming helpful and friendly and best of all they allow dogs - even bringing treats to the table! Space for kids too and good menu selection.

Always a favourite, this bar can be buzzing at the weekend but is a great place to meet up in relatively peaceful surroundings during the week, good food with excellent choice though only a limited choice of draft ale. Oh, I forgot to mention that well behaved dugs are welcome!

What a find! Walked away from crowed and touristy central Edinburgh down to Stockbridge, and into Hectors. A well run pub, offering good food. Traditional breakfast was filling and good quality. The sausage was, serious! The Guinness was perfect, but so was the cappuccino coffee. Friendly and engaging staff. Recommended. We’ll be back. Thank you.

Menu was a wee bit short on what I would class as healthy options but what was on offer was fine. Went for bar snacks which were reasonable at 3 for £11 houlomi fries, Spanish style peppers and chorizo sausages. Also had korean chicken wings which were tasty with plenty meat on the bone. Prices reasonable for central location.

This is a really great place to head in Stockbridge. I was delighted to see some good veggie/vegan options on the menu here. I had a tasty Beyond burger, and the rest of our group were happy with their choices too. Helpful and friendly staff, and everything was kept very clean and sanitary. Nice atmosphere.

Myself and my boyfriend have been coming to Hector’s for many years now when we go out it’s our first go to place. On Friday we had food and drinks, I got the chicken&chorizo. 4 of us went here for lunch. We shared the baked cheese, triple cooked chips, mushrooms on toast, chicken and calamari. Everything was freshly cooked, & all came together, and very nice ... particularly the calamari which was very tender. Nice atmosphere, with other customers there but at a comfortable distance. Staff very friendly and helpful, even though they are talking to you through a face mask.

We found this charmingly quirky place on our first night in Edinburgh after taking a 20 minute stroll from our Airbnb. The waitress who greeted us was a delightful Kiwi - very cheery and efficient. The menu was varied and also catered for vegetarians, which suited 3 of our party. The price of each dish is also very reasonable. The food did not take long to arrive, even though the venue was busy on the night we visited. Each meal was nicely presented and tastily delicious, with all 5 of us giving all meals the thumbs up. A good choice of ales, spirits, wine, and soft drinks at the bar, and excellent service. Very clean ablutions also. Highly recommend to all!

Nice place with an accessible toilet. At lunch time there are generally two fabulous girls working who are attentive, good humored and quick. The staff was really lovely (they made a small error in our order but apologised profusely and offered us desert on the house!), a very dog friendly place. We arrived at Hectors on what turned out to be their regular Wednesday burger night. Drawn in by the stylish, traditional appearance and the happy-looking customers sitting outside, we found a more quirky interior that was fun to discover. The bar had excellent quality, modest selections of ale, gin and whisky. One of us had the fish burger, which was fine, the other had a vegetarian burger which was declared exciting and delicious. The service was friendly if slightly disorganised whilst we were there. We had a good time and decided to stay for another drink. Just wished we could have been there for quiz night.

A very good pub, real ale and nice wines available. Realy good value offers ona Wednesdays when you can get a choice of burger with all the trimmings and a pint or glass of wine for just under £12. Worth a visit.

Lots of tasty food on the menu, and the rotating beers on tap are always interesting. There are often fun seasonal specials on the menu - I still fondly remember last summer's strawberry black pepper lemonade. If anything, my one complaint is that it's too popular - often it's hard to wander in without a reservation and find a table.

I've never had a bad experience at Hector's and I find myself returning it time and time again. Their food menu is always moving and there is always a new personal favourite. I have a soft spot for their Whitebait which makes for a fantastic table snack. Can be swamped especially after work so do have alternatives, however if you do find a seat, this place is a real treat.

Hector's never seems to be empty, and if you want an evening seat even mid-week, you shouldn't leave it too late. The quality of the food was high, the staff attentive, the wine-list pleasant. The crowd was typically mid-thirties; this made the wine-bar experience a civilised and positive one. Worth a visit.

Came here on bank holiday Sunday. The atmosphere was buzzing and the service was good. But the music was a little too loud to have a conversation and also the coffees we ordered were very weak - the latte was more like a cup of hot milk! Would come back again but would sit somewhere different and would avoid the coffee!

Love the atmosphere at Hector's as much as I love its dog friendly approach. It's cosy, it's contemporary and cool, the floor lamps hanging from the ceiling are a nice touch and the food is pretty good. I've been here many times, but going in with a large family group last week and being served by Chris was the best experience by far. The man excels at customer service, and we would have gladly welcomed him and his sense of humour at our table. A big thank you to him for making an all too brief trip home to Scotland even more enjoyable!

If you haven't been here for Sunday lunch you are missing out! I would suggest getting there as soon as possible, but you'll likely need to book as it does get very busy on the weekend. I've also had some great evening meals here, and there's always the option of playing some of the amazing board games (including Battleships!).

hectors gets 4 stars based purely on their pub quiz on a sunday!! it's really well done, free and the quiz master (John) is just brilliant. the food itself is also good quality, some really good options which change often enough that it seems seasonal (not keen on the measly mac and cheese though) it's well priced for stockbridge and it's got a cosy feel about it. the bar staff are mostly lovely, (the few who aren't still manage to be very attentive) it's welcoming so unsurprisingly never empty.

Hector's is good if you just want a beer - they usually have a pretty good selection and the staff at the bar are usually pretty nice. Food, not so much - the chicken and chorizo skewers, while tasty, are only about 3 inches long and the rest of the menu is a little underwhelming, while the waiting staff can be surprisingly brusque for fashionable Stockbridge.

Hectors serves some lovely food and has a reasonable selection of drinks, but the mere fact it's positioned on a nice corner in stockbridge means the prices are a bit over the top. Nice atmosphere most nights during the week although the staff are a bit slow. I guess that adds to the relaxed atmosphere if there's nobody running about :) Check out what cocktails they've got on - usually a good shout.
