A very traditional pub which is often used as a quick stop for people in transit as it's closely sited to many bus stops. The decor features lots of vintage mirrors and an ornate ceiling. Good selection of ales and spirits. Service is good and friendly.

I haven't been here for a few years and was pleased to see that it hasn't changed. A terrific choice of draught beers and a good assortment of whiskies.The young lady who served me was polite and efficient and very welcoming. The décor, as far I can see, doesn't seem to have changed since the bar was built just like the other top pubs in Edinburgh such as the Cafe Royal and the Abbotsford.

If ever you were looking for a pie and a pint, this is the place for you. Mathers is situated at the popular west end of Edinburgh. And retains its authenticity. Its great strength is that is not a trendy bar with over inflated prices. It is as it was and will ever be. A pub with good beer and Edinburgh finest steak pies.

£3.50 a pint. In a town full of pretentious craft beer bars it reminds me of the McDonalds coffee add. Ten minutes after posting this. Two tourists walk in, ask for a taste of one of the many beers on tap. They check it out, nod approval and buy two pints. Tennents lager, £3.50 a pint. Approved by beer connoisseurs and tourists. Like asking to taste the Bud Lite.

Not too happy with the drink pricing in this bar 3 different people served me at different times of the evening and charged differently each time for my pint and a vodka coke I was charged between £8-90 and £11-70 No price list to be seen and the Andersons all said the same thing that the others got it wrong and that was correct price????
