Hosted a 40th birthday party in their function room. Lee, the owner, could not have been more helpful if he tried. Scott, the manager, answered my multiple questions on the run up to the event. The function room is gorgeous, tastefully decorated and has everything a party needs. Will definitely use this venue again. Its brilliant and I highly recommend it.

Mercat Bar is a short walk from Haymarket Station & if like me you had a long train journey is ideal for a decent lunch before finding your hotel. Simply exit Haymarket Station follow tram line into the city & it's barely 5 mins walk & on main road before West End tram stop. Probably more of a bar/bistro place than a pub. Not a long menu but appealing none the less & not too much in the way of beer choices. I had a Guiness & the fish (haddock) chips & peas. Fish portion was generous & good quality. This is a nice lunch venue & was fairly quiet & relaxed when I visited which was midweek early afternoon.

A fantastic place to eat and drink. This place is near Haymarket Station with trams and buses stopping outside too. The food served was fantastic we could not fault any of it, the cocktails were well made and went down a treat, prices for food and drink were on par with other similar establishments in the area. The seating was well spaced out so it didn't feel cramped and there was further seating available downstairs. The staff were polite, prompt and well presented.

Dropped in here just for a quick pint to get out of a torrential downpour. Was surprised and delighted to see musicians playing on a Wednesday afternoon. Very good they were too! Ended up staying for another pint despite the weather clearing up, and wish I had time for a third.

Good place to come for breakfast and lunch. Freindly staff, quick service and good coffee. Good location as it is near the tram stop for the airport so if you need to head to the airport after it's ideal. Nice setting and nice atmosphere inside too.

Love this place. We have visited several times now. Deceptive size as when you look in the window it seems just a small place - but there is a large function area downstairs. Staff are always very helpful and friendly. Food is delicious - especially the breakfast options that are available until into the afternoon. Would definitely recommend a visit and we will definitely be back next time we visit Haymarket.

While out and about in haymarket Edinburgh we came across this place it looked smart but very friendly from the outside so thought we would try the breakfast after entering it looked clean + very fresh even the staff came across as warm we ordered the full scottish breakfast instead of haggis a had black pudding it was a decent size everything was fresh even.down to the cuppa it was good prices vary but for 2 breakfast + drinks it was less then £20 il definitely be going back to this place .....

Yes, yes, yesyesyesyes... Good price on drinks (esp. in Edinburgh), burgers are yum, chill staff. Free wifi. Always seem to find people a table, no matter the time of day. Fair warning, their burgers are tall and with some of their sauces, slippery beyond reason 😂

Just arrived in Edinburgh for 2 days and was hungry after a 3 hour train journey. Popped into Mercat and ordered a bacon and sossie sandwich and a cappuccino. I was served within seconds and food delivered within 5 minutes. Good size roll and plenty of filling and hot!! Cappuccino was really delicious. A nice big cup filled to the brim. It was quiet which probably helped with the service but I've no complaints and will come back tonight for an evening meal. I fancy the steak or pie so will mull it over during the day. Good interaction from the guy at the bar too who was pleasant.

I've been in Edinburgh off and on for 4 days so far. And I can sum this venue up in one word. "SUPERIOR" The service is top notch. The very best cup of coffee I've had on this stay. And the food was fantastic. Try the eggs benedict with the smoked salmon *EXCELLENT* I'll make a point of going back.

We stumbled on this lovely place by chance one evening whilst waiting to pick up relatives from nearby Haymarket station, and we are so glad we did! Fantastic food! I had the goats cheese risotto and it was the best I've ever tasted! The staff were fantastic too, very efficient and so friendly, our food came quickly and was red hot, overall fabulous service and food and great value for money too! Highly recommend this place for a bite to eat whilst out and about in Edinburgh!

When I lived in the city center I would pop in here with my other half at least once a week. The food is excellent and as their menu says... they don't make fast food... they make good food quickly.... so while It may take longer it is most definitely worth the wait. Be it a simple burger or their macaroni cheese its tasty, filling and well worth popping in for!

We were invited to The Mercat Bar through business for dinner and a wine tasting with no preconceived ideas about the venue, but goodness were we surprised and ended up having one of the best evenings we have had in a long time. The food was delicious the wines absolutely gorgeous and Grahame our host couldn't have been more welcoming. This is a venue you could choose for numerous outings. Just an early supper on the way home from work, a casual meal before or after the cinema, or a whole evening spend enjoying good food and wine with a special person or lots of friends. It is not haute cuisine, nor does it pretend to be, just using excellent quality produce making it very good value.

On our last day in Edinburgh, we popped in here for a late lunch as it was within walking distance of our hotel. Our party of three, which included our 9-year old son, sat at street level, across from the bar. We received a warm welcome, and were the only ones dining at that hour (it was around 3 p.m.). My husband had the hot brie, bacon and cranberry; I had a chicken Caesar salad with a side of onion rings; our son had the macaroni and cheese. During our 2+-week trip, my husband tried several versions of the same sandwich and deemed Mercat's the best. It was on hearty brown bread, with copious amounts of filling. He who usually inhales his food savored every morsel of that sandwich, and washed it down with a local brew. My Caesar was tasty, but drowning in too much dressing. A lighter hand with the dressing, and the salad would've been perfect. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and there was a generous amount of fresh Parmesan. The onion rings were perfectly cooked, and had a light, crispy batter. My beverage of choice was a pint of Strongbow. The 9-year old's crock of mac 'n cheese was delish; however, it is made with a mature/sharp cheddar (which was a little too sharp for the little guy's palate). The crock of pasta and cheese had the appropriate amount of browned bits on top, and was tender and flavorful. The side salad came dressed in a raspberry vinaigrette, which helped cut through the richness of the mac 'n cheese. Definitely will seek this place out the next time we're in Edinburgh.

Great little pub. Drinks are average - expensive with quite a selection. Its clean and well decorated with a great selection of music playing in the background. The service was excellent, at first i thought it was only due to someone important having a drink at the bar (manager/owner) because all the service staff where on their toes around him and talking business and staff schedules too, but the great service continued even after he left, very capable staff. Food is well priced, well presented and tasted good.

We stopped off for a bite to eat and a drink on our way into town.we went for the sandwich,soup and chips for £6.i had the brie and cranberry ciabbata and the soup was broccoli and parmesan soup. The chips were just oven chips but it was very tasty. The American waitress was very friendly and chatty too. Wee had a few gins which was £8 for a double Brockmans which is the usual price and it was fever tree tonic to boot. Good atmosphere and worth a visit.

Most expensive pint I have ever ordered in Edinburgh. £5.75 for a pint of Punk IPA. I fully expect to pay over a fiver these days for an IPA in the city centre these days, but £5.75 is taking the mic. Food is actually really good, although still a bit pricey.

I do love the Mercy bar. But today 95% of folk in there were rugby fans. The Ireland v All Blacks game was on the tv's. Which was great. But the music was on far to load. Several folk asked for the tv sound to be turned up and the music to go off. But sadly we got a very rude and direct NO !. So next time we might take our business else where. Douglas

No longer the after work dive we used to frequent, a lot! A refurb and a change of focus to food has vastly improved this place. We tend to visit pre rugby and it can get very busy, especially for 6 Nations matches. Usually a few screens with sport on upstairs and in the bigger space downstairs. The toilets are downstairs and it's a fairly steep staircase.

The Mercat Bar is a real mixed bag, depending on what you are wanting from it. If you want something tasty and filling for lunch, it's great, particularly the nachos. If you are instead looking for somewhere to have a good night out, then I'd suggest popping round the corner to Carter's instead. On the face of it The Mercat should be a great place, stylish, well-stocked. Sadly it seems to lack a bit of atmosphere. Shame.
