Reviews of No. 1 High St.
M. O.
Visited this place with my friends to have the Scotland special dish Cullen skunk. The soup was really nice, served in time, good customer service, everything was perfect. We had a great time. Thumbs up to the management and staff for giving us an amazing experience.
J. S.
Very friendly bartender, delicious food.
I forgot to take photos of the food, woops but it was presented well and tasted amazing.
I ordered the chicken gyro which was delicious and my grandma ordered Mac and cheese, same result.
It took about 45 minutes for our food to come, when they didn't seem super busy, and that is my only issue.
Definitely would come back!
S. L.
Half decent breakfast. Nice pub, good drinks
S.
Lovely traditional Scottish food and vegetarian options available. Weird Southern English waiter. I asked for something “like Newcastle Brown Ale” and he said “you’ve come to Scotland and want something from Newcastle? He offered a similar ale and then said “I’m sure it’s better than anything that’s come out of Newcastle” he didn’t seem to be joking and I don’t think he realised I am a Geordie. He also seemed to be a bit rude to other customers.
D. F.
Needed drink an a quiet sit down out of the wind. Very welcoming staff and a nice atmosphere. Good choice of what you might expect.
O. N.
My friends and I loved the Scottish traditional dish called cullen skink. If you're ever in Edinburgh, you must try it. It's one of the best soups I've ever eaten.
A. F.
Good spot for pub food.Great service!
❤️fish and chips
N. N.
Delicious veggie Scottish breakfast (also have a similar smaller version called "Wee Breakfast" for those not that hungry). Service were lovely.
B. d. V.
Very friendly staff and people in general. Quite spacious and not cramped like other places. Great place for a drink and a quick bite to eat after exploring Edinburgh. Not a tourist trap. Prices also very reasonable.
A.
Lovely bar, pints were great, staff are a great friendly team. Food was good, but could be way better. I ordered the whiskey burger with haggis, but the burger was so small, smaller than the bun, and dense as a brick, not enough weight or fats in the meat. Chips were the frozen kind, but nice and crispy, triple cooked would be a better touch.
S. H.
The staff were well mannered and the menu was excellent and varied. The tables were clean and the restaurant had a very nice atmosphere inside. I enjoyed my meal very much. Thank you !!

Excellent pub that offers a wide selection of food and drink they also provide a breakfast menu which I would highly recommend. This pub has a pleasant atmosphere and what really makes the difference is the warm welcome that the two guys serving give you when you visit definitely call again when visiting Edinburgh.

Enjoyed lunch and a pint at No. 1 High Street. Staff were welcoming and the Scottish dishes I chose for lunch in this traditional pub were tasty and presented well.
I opted for a bowl of cullen skink followed by haggis, neeps and tatties. The three ingredients of my main course were served stacked and doused in a tasty sauce.
N. N.
Delicious veggie Scottish breakfast (also have a similar smaller version called "Wee Breakfast" for those not that hungry). Service were lovely.
J. C.
Nice traditional pub. Went in this morning for breakfast. Food was good, fresh. Staff were very nice.Next time in Edinburgh will definitely return 😁
G.
Nice pub with good service and great live music in the evening. BEST onion rings I have ever had anywhere in the world. Amazing beer batter, with tons of flavour. The staff are very hospitable and even though it’s very busy, they tried hard to provide good service.
B. C.
We were the first in for lunch right about noon on a Saturday. Service was friendly and helpful throughout our visit. I had the halloumi and orange salad, which was beautifully presented and delicious, while my husband had fish and chips, which came out wrapped in paper and were fantastic. For dessert, we shared cranachan, a traditional Scottish treat. I found it not quite to my taste, as it was largely whipped cream.
J.
Good food excellent service staff very friendly. A good range of choices on the menu
T. F.
We had a beer at this pub and had a very nice time. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere very nice
G. H.
OK, the tables were clean, £5.60 for a pint of Guiness seems a bit much, but I don't get out that often and it is the Royal Mile after all. It wasn't a particularly good pint either.
N. E.
Comfy pub, very nice staff and good food. Stopped in about 1800, not busy or packed, very nice and helpful staff, very attentive to all the clients and made them all very welcome. Had the fish & chips in paper and the crachanan for desert, both very tasty and good portion sizes. Definitely recommend for a drink or food
C. C.
Friendly staff, good atmosphere. Food is very nice and good selections of drinks.
a. l.
At this pub they have good and delicious food. the servic is awesome and quickly, good prices on the food and also at drinks/whiskey 👍
nice personal and very helpful.
very service minded 👍

We decided to stop here for dinner and some drinks. The restaurant has a specific Scottish atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. We can't really say we were impressed with the burgers, but beer and whisky selection is great. Good option for an evening out if you are not looking for a very busy place.
F. M.
This place has good atmosphere, friendly staffs, and the food was great at good prices.

I recently visited from England. The food was great but I was greeted very badly by a member of staff who refused to serve me as I wasn’t wearing a mask. The rules in Scotland and England are that you don’t need to prove you are exempt from wearing a mask and should not suffer any discrimination because of it. Had it been easier to find somewhere to eat without booking I would have walked out. She was unpleasant and left me feeling shaky and angry. I don’t ask to be exempt I’d much rather be able to wear a mask all the time.
S. 2.
Visited on a busy Friday in December. Our family with two little boys had an excellent meal. Staff were good as was the service. It's only small but a real hidden gem. Would visit again.
K. H.
My husband had the veggie haggis in Whisky sauce and said it was wonderful. I had the steak pie and it was fabulous. You can only get a steak pie like that in Scotland. The staff were very friendly and everything was reasonably priced. I would highly recommend eating there. We are looking forward to our next trip to Edinburgh and we will definitely be visiting again.
S. L.
Came here twice and the food was amazing both times. Fantastic haggis (which you can get as a main or as a starter). The cullen skink is also great!
T. w. D.
This was a great little place and the food was very good. I had the hagis, neeps and taties and can’t recommend enough.
L. M.
Always enjoy coming here. Good food, friendly service
H. B.
Friendly pub, warm and inviting. Staff are very helpful and kind.
Food good, big portions, good value for money, basic pub fare but done well.
Prices not too bad considering it's located right in the middle of The Royal Mile.
R. H.
Nice traditional pub with good selection of drinks and friendly staff.
T. E.
Lovely breakfast this morning at the No 1 High St. Nice and quiet, lovely staff and full Scottish breakfast was fab. Many thanks
J.
On the corner of Jeffrey st & the Royal Mile, this is a very popular gastropub, which serves cask & guest ales with a wonderful selection of old, rare & popular whiskies. The staff are friendly, attentive & efficient, as they make tables ready for more guests who are drooling to order some food. Even when full, the wait for a meal is minimal, & as you wait expectantly, you can enjoy chatting to a diverse amount of peoples, while perhaps enjoying a glass of your favourite.
J. N.
We ended up in here before our train. Nice bar and the staff where great. However as a crafty guy there was nothing for me to drink. That being said. The whisky collection was good. The whisky I had was tremendous. So all worked out.
A. H.
Lovely little meal and pint. Staff were nice 3 star standard ain't the highest but still recommend highly
J.
Excellent value in this touristy area. Wait staff was efficient and helpful, with a smile but not chatty. Very professional. For lunch the small Cullen Skink was served with a big piece of white bread and butter, under £6. Nice chunk of haddock in there. Much better chowder than many I've had in the States. Chunky chips were crispy on the outside and not so chunky that they were mushy. BLT hit the spot and steak pie satisfied the husband who tends to be picky.
I just wouldn't get the veggies: brussel sprouts are old style, not braised but overcooked. Get a fresh salad instead.
C. S.
I had some of the best foods here! The guy who served was a comedian. Had thee best time.
A. L.
We had dinner at No.1 High St. two weeks ago. We ate a great Cullen Skink on the royal mile, the service was very good and the beers as well!
B.
Space can be at a premium since this seems to be a popular stop on the royal mile, but everyone was rather friendly and made room where possible to have a pint while waiting for space to order food. There is a restaurant area with more tables, which I didn't realize until leaving, but the cozy space in the pub was a great experience, even with limited room.
The haggis, neeps, and tatties tower was fantastic, easily my favorite thing from the menu. My main was alright, but I saw folks with the fish and chips and was jealous every time they went by. Service was surprisingly swift given how busy they were and always remarkably friendly.
a. h.
Good grub and a few selection of beers. Menu is basic but no complaints
S. S.
Excellent food and cold beer. Four of us ate for about £100, including several beers and a hot toddie (their drink of the month). Wonderful Scottish atmosphere in the middle of the Royal Mile.
L.
Nice clean pub. On last visit staff talking socially to customer at the far end of the bar. Slow to a acknowledge me waiting to be served. Not cheep drinks. Edinburgh prices?
H. C.
Warm welcome, good food and the best mulled wine I tasted during my mini break in Edinburgh.
H. M.
Lovely staff and cosy space. They serve a banging Haggis with whiskey sauce! 👌
C. S.
Really enjoyable meal and very friendly staff. Good value.
J. C.
Nice place on the Royal Mile. Food was nice we all had a breakfast.
Staff friendly
M. O.
Amazing breakfast, atmosphere and service. It's a must see!
M. B.
Best steak and ale pie in a long time. No fat/gristle lovely steak, pastry so light it floats off the plate. Beer pretty good as well!
D. M.
Smashing pub right in the heart of Edinburgh and a five minute walk to the castle and various other places to view. Excellent range of drinks and the staff were top notch. Visited this place previously and ordered from the food menu which although wasn't too fancy, ( par for the course at these types of places ), was still very enjoyable.
D. W.
We had the wee traditional breakfast which was very nice, my Wife (English) swapped the haggis for a sausage though bless her lol.
But lovely place, staff was excellent would go again
J. V.
Great service. Very accommodating. They serve really tasty Haggis and also Fish and Chips
e. j.
Lovely breakfast roll and a pint at 10
C. W.

w. s.
Great traditional friendly pub serving food.
Gluten free options too
L. O.
Very friendly staff, delicious food and a good selection of beers and whiskey.
y. b.
Great staff very friendly, lovely food and atmosphere 👌
P. N. (.
Brilliant! Warm and friendly with great beer and food !
P. U.
Food was alright, with a good price. The best were the haggies dishes. Staff could be a bit friendlier, it felt like they didn’t want to be there.
A. W.
After a fantastic walk up and around Arthur Seat we decided to have a walk up the High Street and stop of for a light lunch, so we popped in to No 1 High Street, great atmosphere fantastic staff and great service, the nachos for two and the beers were just right.. .
G. D.
Nice bar and nice cooked breakfast tasty haggis 👍
I. L.
Ok bar, good location, great staff.
J. H.
Came in just for a drink, was nice and cosy. Drinks were fine. Nice little pub
L. N.
Very warm and welcoming pub in the old town. I recommend the haggis neeps and tatties which was delicious and excellent value for money. Would happily spend many more nights here.
C. P.
They serve the best nachos. Great atmosphere.
T. M.
Excellent pub. Lovely staff. Great food and drink. Fill yer boots folks
M. H.
Great friendly pub. Surprisingly good value for a Royal Mile pub, and the fish and chips was exceptional.
Well, the fish was. The chips were a little lacklustre, but not offensive. But the haddock was sizable. The batter was crisp and not oily, and the fish tasted fresh. So maybe not the outright best, but certainly mixing it with the top.
I would definitely recommend this little place.
D. M.
Great place to spend an afternoon chatting amongst friends and sampling the local hospitality especially the amaretto mulled wine!
E. “. A.
Lovely bar with fantastic staff and a good selection of well priced food and drink. Slightly cramped, but that happens with old buildings.
Q. O.
The pub was very covid secure. Bathroom was clean. We ate lunch late around 1:30 pm and the pub was quiet. We had leek and potato soup as an appetizer and the Caesar salad as the main, both were wonderful.
The staff was very attentive and pleasant. I would go again. This pub is mentioned in the Rick Steve’s “The Royal Mile” tour that you can get from his website.
C. G.
Beautiful breakfast, excellent latte, very friendly staff
A. A. W.
Best Pub/Bar on the Royal Mile Edinburgh. Whilst on holiday in Edinburgh we visited this pub many times, great food and great staff. Well worth a visit. July 2021 we stayed.
L. K.
Decent pub food and friendly service.
F. H.
Fantastic atmosphere with great selection of drinks. Fish and chips meal was tasty and the service friendly.
A. C.
Nothing fancy, but that's why we loved it, we actually ended up hear more than once during our stay. Great place to enjoy a drink and relax.
A. J.
Great breakfast, excellent service and great local knowledge
B. R.
Another nice place to visit. Beer bit dear, but still good 🤗
T. B.
Juat been there this Saturday night! Tasty haggis, very friendly staff, good atmosphere, a nice time there!
N. H.
Good breakfast served until 11am. Friendly helpful staff and a good selection of drinks.
s.
tasty fish n chips, tasty full English haggis breakfast. very friendly service. cozy place.
L. S.
Had a breakfast here. Tasty and good portion so It's a good place to start the Day !
L. B.
Lovely evening spent with family. Quiet on this occasion but perfect for us. Staff very friendly and the food absolutely delicious.
My husband and daughter had the goats cheese and beetroot salad, my son had haggis and neeps and I had the smoked haddock chowder. Really good value for money.
d.
Great bar. Friendly staff. Good food. Would always have a beer here while visitng area.
D. P.
Excellent vegetarian options. Veggie haggis and fish (banana blossom) and chips. Great service too.
J. C. (. M.
I have to recommend this place as a great local pub. Small any always busy it seemed. I went by it several times while in the area and went in once.
Very pleased with the experience and spent a few hours there ending my night with dinner and drink. Easy for the time to fly by here as everyone was super friendly and cool.
The local seemed to like Americans very much too. Again something I was concerned about while being out of the states.
Drop in, you will enjoy it.
S. M.
Lovely, friendly pub. Didn't eat there but looked like the food was good too
S. A.
Lovely place, delicious food and amazing service!
G. H.
Good food, not great. Nice place to drop in if your hungry and tired of walking.
A little uppity about what drinks to order with what food.
My wife ordered a burger and a whisky and we were told that's not a good thing and a little eye rolling from the waiter.
He wasn't real helpful after that and maybe we are naive on customer service.
Nice choice of beers and whisky.
D. E.
Lovely place to eat and drink! We (a group of 8 friends and family) had a lovely time here, although it was busy at the hight of the fringe festival, the staff kindly reserved us a table and we indulged in the great menu! honestly cannot fault the service or the food they offer. Staff are friendly and welcoming, food is well presented and tasty, drinks are well chosen and on point.. Can't wait to return to #1!
H. T.
Lovely friendly staff nice food and drinks too
D. T.
Nice friendly pub for a nice pint
n. _.
A nice and dim place with jazzy music, soft seats and a comfy menu; got the steak and ale pie with French fries, accompanied by undercooked veggies. Staff was okay, and it's obviously a great location; I'd recommend it if you don't really care about the experience and if you're okay with a bit lower quality food.
E. H.
Great pub great food Great staff. We go twice a year and as soon as our grandson goes in they are over talking to him The staff even sent him a birthday card to Ayrshire. Our pub when we visit Edinburgh
H. G.
Great staff, nice beer, good monthly scotch selection, very pleasant atmosphere.
M. A.
Good food and great staff. Very dog friendly and we were made to feel very welcome with three kids in tow.
N. G.
Had a sharing plate which included a fried haggis which was surprisingly super delicious. Good fish and chips but the best thing they have is the whiskey menu. Had a 10 year and was very happy with that and a friend had the whiskey of the day and we were blown away with how delicious it was.
T. G.
Nice staff. Entre was great, but not too hot, sane with the main.
T. K.
Fantastic food very tasty fantastic staff very reasonable prices tried Tennants for the first time delicious definitely recommend this bar
S. M.
Found this gem of a place while in Edinburgh. We ate here on 3 occasions. Once because the other places had waiting times that were crazy long and the other 2 times by choice especially since once we were seated at one highly reviewed place but even after 10 minutes no one even came to ask what we wanted to drink. The food was excellent and the wait staff was so friendly. One time we came and the wait was a bit long but the staff was adamant that we stay because they were sure we’d get a table soon and we did. Their fish and chips were the best that we had while in the UK and the haggis was excellent! Thank you for being a big part of making our stay in Edinburgh memorable!
T. C.
Well located, friendly little pub. You can get in out of the cold and enjoy a drink, or opt for tea/coffee and cake. Good selection of drinks available. Good is the usual pub fare, done to an average standard.
K. A.
Mulled wine and haggis, neeps and tatties! AMAZING and soooo delicious!
A. D.
I was skeptical looking at the menu, but this is the best burger I have ever had in my life. I am not big on ordering burgers out, but this was the exception. It was as if I had never tasted beef before! Everything else seemed to be standard pub fare. Cocktails were great!
Y. D.
Delicious meal of ceaser salad hallomie fries & macaroni cheese 🧀 , great friendly & welcoming staff. Lovely old fashioned family friendly pub right on the corner of high st & Royal Mile.. good prices... adhering to all covid track & trace rules, providing sanitiser & information regarding pub regulations at these times 😀 will definitely pop in again when visiting Edinburgh 100% satisfaction 👌 😍
C. R.
Nice little put on the Royal mile serving food, real ales and some local live music.
We visited the pub on a Thursday night and the place was relatively full and there were a group of musicians playing bluegrass music in the corner by the door.
Drink were ordered but as we had already eaten we did not have food.
The bar staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed.
As the night went on we had another drink and more musicians arrived for the impromptu set and we had a few more drinks.
They also welcome dogs #Dugsinpubs
C. K.
Thank you to the member of staff who saw us sheltering from the rain outside last night and offered us an umbrella.
We really appreciated the gesture and it kept us dry while we walked to find a taxi home.
Some times it is the simple things that make the biggest difference and this was service of an excellent standard.
S. A.
Good ambiance, quite generous portions (the Cullen skink had some good chunks of fish in it) and the food was delicious. Friendly waiter, not too talkative and brought us our dishes quickly since we were a bit in a hurry.
J. M.
Lovely food and friendly staff
M. C.
Wonderful front of house staff, cozy atmosphere, delicious food.
-1 star for the slow kitchen - it took the better part of an hour for me to get through a starter and an entree. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're in a hurry.
Still, I look forward to coming again next time I'm in town!
S. L.
Had mains, dessert, coffee and a cocktail. All were great! Haggis with neeps and tarries and the steak and ale pie were both delicious. Service was very nice and quick. Definitely would recommend
A. L.
Lovely food and good selection of whisky.
E. J.
Typical Pubfood, nice Range of Whiskys and beer especially local beer.
We were there for dinner and a few time for a Pint or two
The waiters are sometimes a bit Reserved (not that open) but hey, i can under st and that with the thousands of tourists in the royal mile and you can't always have a splendid day with excellent costumers.
Overall I can recommend it
C. G.
Only drinks, I wouldn't recommend to go there to eat given that's a bit on the expensive side and not good. Our starter sharing plate took quite long and when it came everything (fries, onion rings, chicken wings...) was completely over fried. Then our main meals arrived and they were simply not good. Nice centric location though.
C. G.
This pub was formerly known as the Royal Archer a much more sensible name than Number One. The exterior is more interesting than the interior and was originally painted a rich green shade.
J. H.
Great food, safe, encouraging mask wearing, thanx for excellent time all round
P. F. M.
Enjoyable pint, in a pleasant atmosphere.
J. G.
Classic Scottish Breakfast
B. P.
Very nice place, friendly staff & huge range of drinks especially whiskeys.
P. S.
Friendly staff and very authentic looking pub. The food was very nice however they ran out of curly fries quite early in the day. I ordered the steak pie but struggled to find much steak in it. I would probably not go back because I am sure there are some better pubs around the royal mile.
s. l.
Formerly the Tass (standard old mans pub), the obviously named No.1 High Street, on the corner of the Royal Mile has had a full make-over! They have maintained the raw stone walls and old pub features, but added the 'in' floral wallpaper and new light fittings. It's brighter and feels more welcoming. The place was packed when we went there, we were lucky to get a seat!
They have live folk music some evenings (we visited a Friday night) which is a nice addition to a regular pub. They are really into their ales and had a huge amount of whiskies on display, over 40! The is a quiz too, on Monday nights. I've not tried the food, but it appears to be traditional pub grub.
C. P.
Our favorite pub on the mile. Expect friendly service, a good meal, and a great selection of whisky (and good guidance if you need a suggestion or two), when you visit. Already planning our next trip to Edinburgh, and several stops at No. 1 High Street will be guaranteed!
S. D.
Comfortable pub, good range of drinks, particularly if wanting a wee dram... staff were very friendly. Did not eat here but menu looked good.
M. M.
Really nice pub with relatively high prices (which is normal on the royal mile). Had good pub grub and desserts and a couple of different craft beers. Whisky selection is also quite good.
L. S.
It was a very cute pub. The staff were very helpful and gave us excellent advice about whiskey and other beverages. They went out of their way to accomodate my allergies. Delicious food.
P. G.
Very nice pub and not as tourist focused as other pubs in the area.
They also have a good selection of food. We tried their fish & chips which was quite good.
A. J.
We love dropping in here when were in town. It's at a great location and the food is great and the pub is well stocked. Wether it's sitting at the bar for a few or a quick bite to eat everytime we've been it's been great 😀. Always worth a visit
T. S.
Friendly. Good location. Good service. Good menu and range of the wet stuff. One of our favourite lunch stops when at the Fringe.
L. A.
Went in for lunch, staff were very professional, followed all social distancing requirements, hand sanitising station as you go in and when you leave, felt relaxed and chilled, food was great, enjoyed our lunch, good experience
B. B.
Nice little pub but nothing startling about it.clean and bar staff efficient and friendly
K. M.
Nice place, great beer and cosy atmosphere! Popped in for a quick half, stayed for a couple of pints before heading out for our meal!
R. P.
Arrived in Edinburgh and we were to early to check in so found ourselves in here. Food was good and it was a very nice little pub. Would have no issue going again, would recommend
M. W.
Nice greeting, good choice of alcoholic beverages. Good atmosphere
M. K.
Very nice pub in the centre of Edinburgh on The Royal Mile, although I didn't eat! The food being served looked appetizing. Worth a visit to rest your weary legs and quench the thirst.
B.
Nice service, very professional, high quality and low prices. Nothing to complain about. I recommend 🙂
R. K.
Oh, this is lovely pub at main street in the centre of Edinburgh. Exteriors look awesome and when you enter, you won't be disappointed it looks just as good. I tried hot chocolate and was delicious! I definitely recommend! 🍵👍
R. M.
This is a nice little pub on the royal mile. They serve traditional "Scottish" fare like Haggis, neeps and tatties (that's haggis, mashed turnip and mashed potatoes to those not so familiar with the lingo) and a selection of beverages. The food is ok, but nothing to get excited over and the staff are reasonably friendly without being markedly more memorable than your average bar. What sets the pub apart is the regular presence of musicians playing live Celtic music which helps give it a unique atmosphere and a fun place to take in the traditional music played and listened to by Scots over centuries. If you are visiting Edinburgh and are passing by, then pop in and if there's live musicians it's definitely worth a visit. Overall it's a good pub but just lacks a little to make it truly memorable.
T. F.
Excellent place. Celiac friendly. I ordered the fish and chips gluten free version and it was excellent. Anyone who travels with celiac or a gluten intolerance will understand how nice it is to din in a restaurant that not only have gluten free options but celiac friendly. Great job No.1.
E. E.
Lacked atmosphere but good for a quiet drink
D.
Walked in expecting an ordinary Pub Meal. I ordered the Haggis, Neeps and Tatties Tower....it was delicious. The service was first class and very friendly. Will make sure we visit again.
D. J.
Quite Sunday night which may have accounted for the lack of atmosphere. That said, the staff were great and let us take our time drinking up. Could see this as a great boozer on the right night
S. C.
Nice place and conveniently located but got stung a little as when I went to pay by card, it was a £5 minimum spend. Crisps made my £4ish drink turn into £6.50
S. F.
Friendly pub.Don't see many like this at home.Felt very safe for 2 women alone.
S. H.
Superb good .whiskey galore burger is sublime. Bar staff who know there drinks. A friendly welcome and cosy atmosphere.
S. J.
Excellent atmosphere, service and food. Highly recommend

Was visiting Edinburgh with famiy and came across this place while wandering around. We enjoyed it enough to come back again for dinner the next night!
It is not a large space, maybe room for 45 people tops. We got lucky with seating for our group of 5 both times.
I loved their Mac and cheese, other members of the family raved over the black and blue chicken burger. The Reuben was ok. But I think that is more of an expectation difference. In America a Reuben would come with sauerkraut, Russian dressing, and served on rye bread. Here it was more a beef panini. Not bad, just not a Reuben.
Great atmosphere, good food, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, and it is right on the Royal Mile, so very convenient.

By far one of the best steak and ale pies I've ever had in my life!!! Lovely atmosphere... Staff very friendly... Quite the hidden gem

Absolutely loved it. Due to a communication error (on our part) we got one wrong dish, but they replaced it within 5~ minutes. Fantastic and kind staff, good service, good location. Food tasted very good as well!

Friendly staff, best fish and chips we had during our stay in Edinburgh and delicious dessert options! Definitely worth a visit
C. P.
Was here last week ,real friendly atmosphere, staff where very pleasant,,,I had the fish and chips was really nice ,not the biggest of portions but it is the royal mile after all, and the price was reasonable for the mile ,would recommend this place has a wide varied menu , and is a traditional Edinburgh pub with real nice food ,
A. G.
Friendly with excellent service.
J. T.
Great location, really feels like you're in the heart of Edinburgh, all the bustle and hum. Somewhat touristy, although it is on the Royal Mile, so what do you expect. OK selection of beer.
P. S.
Extensive whisky menu, reasonably priced even in the city centre
V. G. H.
Food decent, a little dry BUT staff was great and they are dog friendly so I’ll be back. Great dessert :)
T. S.
Everything is delicious here. Nice selection of beers and ciders. Great service. One of the best restaurants on the Royal Mile.
S. H.
Surprisingly good pub, in a tourist area, nice range of beer and food at reasonable prices, managed to resist the whiskey, but very tempting.
T. E.
Pretty dead when we went in on a Saturday night. I think this place used to have live music but there was none on this occasion. Maybe more of a daytime food place. Tourists seem to be the target market.
A. Z.
Wonderful food and great service. Ate here twice during our stay in Edinburgh. Haggis, neeps and tatties were delicious. As was everything.
l. t.
Very funny bar tenders who created a great atmosphere

Cute pub with friendly service and a cosy ambiance. Food was good though not extraordinary. But for a pub on the Royal Mile this is a solid choice.
