Had the small cheese platter, comes with a great variety of flavors with it from the cheese, the pickled items, to the dip. I'm not a big foodie but I'm sure that people will like some of the flavours and be indifferent to others. What set Pickles apart was their hospitality. I got chatting a bit with the staff, and despite dining alone half a world away in Edinburgh, I could hardly have felt more at home by the end of my meal. The lively atmosphere was nice, I'm sure it is good as a group too.

Stumbled across Pickles after walking by so often. What a fantastic wee place, bustling with an epic cheeseboard. Well worth the visit if you enjoy good wine and even better cheese and nibbles. Staff were also great, attentive and didnt rush us..!

A beautiful spot for a boozy lunch or snack. The wine menu offers plenty of options and for those less inclined for the grapes there's also lots of spirits, beers, and soft drinks. The cheese and meat board is great, they are very generous with the portions and the variety and quality of food is also top quality. The setting of the restaurant is very vintage and feels incredibly cosy. Its a mist visit if you're looking to spend some time relaxing and enjoying yourself.

Brilliant independent bar. We were staying in a local Airbnb and needed a bit of food and a drink. The sharing platter was perfect and the team were friendly and genuinely welcoming. This is how all bars should be run.

Pickles is amazing! It has a really relaxed and chilled atmosphere. They mostly just serve charcuterie, but it's very high quality. The wine list is extensive and there really is something for everyone, no matter your preferences. It's a perfect venue for a date or a catch up with friends. I think it's also dog friendly, which is a definite bonus even if you don't have a dog (because there are always super cute puppies hanging about). You can also buy their chutney to take away, and you should because it's excellent.

Fabulous place for a drink and/or a nibble! We had a cheese platter for 2 which could actually feed four, but we finished it! Great cheese and awesome chutneys to go with the platter. Very friendly and helpful staff too 👍🏻👏🏻

This is a great little hideaway, serving great quality at a fair price. The menu is limited if you want a massive choice, but this place clearly sticks to what they know well and do it to a fantastic standard. They are very popular, and if not there for opening its likely you may have a short wait. The main items on the menu are a cheese board or a Mediterranean meat board (£15 each) or a mixed one at £20. They also do pate. The staff were happy to bring varied chutneys and pickles with the meal, and offer more bread and oatcakes to have with it too. A great wine and beer list is available. Staff super friendly and attentive without being pushy. They even offered advice on where else to eat and drink. You can go here to eat, or just drink if desired, and the pate and chutneys can be purchased to take away too.

This is probably the most beautiful bar in Edinburgh, we visited here a few times during our stay and couldn't get enough of the wine and cheeseboards.

Great place to have some wine or cider and eat tapas-like food. It is a very small bar so you might have to wait or stay at one of the tables outside. Staff was very friendly and the food was delicious.

Brilliant meat and cheese board, with great wine selection, all in a really cozy environment, ending the evening with a nice glass of port. Due to not taking reservations there's no pressure to be off your table when you're done, you can just sit and relax with another glass of wine, which makes the entire occasion really special.

Wee spot in the basement, but they’re moving to a bigger location right next door. Amazing food, drinks, and service. Expect to wait a little bit, but it’s definitely worth it. Great to return here after lockdown, our last visit was Feb 2020. The staff are as attentive and friendly as ever. The wine selection is excellent and great value, particularly given the location. What a wonderful experience at this beautiful little hideaway! Cozy place with attentive team, great wine, cured meats and cheeses - they're not shy on portion sizes, and it was all we needed for a chilled evening. Try the venison paté. Expect a short wait for a table (they don't take reservations), but the owner pulled up a couple of chairs for us to drink in while we waited. Good mix of locals and visitors to the city. We had a great night, thanks.

Spent a week in Edinburgh and this was our favourite place in town. Excellent cosy atmosphere, high quality products with generous portions and warm, friendly service. We stopped by for wine and a snack before dinner elsewhere, but ended up wishing we had stayed here and had more cheese and charcuterie instead! Highly recommend and will be back.

Would've given 3,5 but no such option. We were seated in the back room, which looked quite nice, with a pleasant atmosphere. The problem was, it was extremely hot there. We ordered a cheese platter (4 types of cheese, one was very good, two were ok, but one was a simply tasteless brie, similar to cheapest supermarket brands) and a jar of venison pate (good). All in all it was a good but not great experience.

Such a great place! Worth getting there early to avoid disappointment...often people queue outside waiting for Pickles to open. Their menu is simple and so very reasonably priced. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and usually very chatty (in a great way). As the venue is small you may sit on the same table as other diners...I see this as a positive thing as it improves the cosy atmosphere and social aspect. Great meat, great cheese, great wine! Love love love!

Great concept for a wine bar - good (and good value!) wine selection and great snacks (the the platters!). Pretty close to East End/city centre. However, maybe a bit too popular these days - finding a table can be a challenge so you might want a back-up plan (no reservations) and it gets noisy when full so perhaps not the best choice for a private meet-up. There's outside seating for summer with 'Hounds' welcome.

Stopped in here whilst we were visiting Edinburgh, was very quite as it was 5pm on a Monday night! but the staff made us feel very welcome. Had a lovely bottle of wine and one of the mixed meat /cheese boards and could have very easily stayed the whole night. The atmosphere was very relaxed and I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

It was very nice but didn't live up to it's hype. Four pleasant enough cheeses and huge portion of bread. Staff were certainly not unpleasant but very clear on what tables we "couldn't have" and keen to give us the bill and show us the door as soon as we looked like we might be finished. If you like cheese, you'll like Pickles! Very cute little downstairs place, with a small outside area too. They have great cheese, beautiful pates, they're all coarse (worth noting for those who like smooth ones), they are so tasty! You get a great selection of chutneys, beautiful bread, oat cakes, pickles (of course!) and meats. The service is really nice and relaxed as well, they know how to make people feel welcome and look after them. And, of course, what is cheese without wine? So, beautiful wines to suit every palate are on offer. Will definitely be back, and this time with my mum as she will go mad for this place. Thanks Pickles!

One of my favourite wine bars in Edinburgh. Such a comfortable and cosy basement bar, they have an extensive selection of wine and bottles which will suit all tastes. The platters however is what makes the place, from cheese boards to cured meat platters, they are perfect to snack on whilst drinking glasses of wine. Highly recommend however they can be quite busy so come early!

I should start by listing the good things about this place. It’s cozy, with warm tones, good lightning, and wood paneling that make it feel homey. The place is well-run, with attentive servers who were helpful and polite. The food is simple and straight-forward, and you know what you’re getting into when you go there. Assuming you’ve looked at the menu before you go there (hint: look at the menu). Now, the reason for the low rating: the food. For a wine-and-cheese bar, the place didn’t have all that great a selection of cheese. Maybe I’m not being fair here, we only ordered the Scottish cheese board and the wild boar pate. Their soft cheeses were meh, though their cheddars were fairly good. But I’m from Oregon, and my expectation of quality craft cheese might be higher than your average tourist. It wasn’t anything to write home about. The house wine that they paired it with was decent, it was a fair deal on a cheap bottle of red (for a restaurant). The wild boar pate was the real let down, as it tasted like cat food (according to my partner), or the pre-made meat in a meal-ready-to-eat military bag than it did like anything I would spend 8.5 pounds on. Bleh. The baguettes they served the food with were quire good, but a good bread does not a good wine-and-cheese bar make. There are better options in the area.

A lovely little basement bar and the simple approach just works a treat - a couple of drinks and a sharing platter of meats and/or cheese or vegetarian alternative is a great way to spend an evening.
