Reviews of Regent Bar
R. J.
Although somewhat outside the centre, and if you walk there you feel like you are heading to nowhere, this little gem of a gay pub is in a nice quiet residential neighbourhood.
They had a menu which we didn't order off of - we were here solely for drinks. It was a Monday night so the crowd was minimal. Beer prices were a bit on the pricey side, which was a bit disappointing to see compared to many other bars in the city.
Friendly and welcoming no matter who you are, I loved the home like atmosphere of the place and that walking to it took me somewhere in Edinburgh I've never been before.
S. C.
Loved it ! lovely, cosy and queer friendly place. I also loved the bar tender, they are so cute 😍🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️❤️
J. P.
Loved this from the rainbow flag hoisted outside to the cosy interior and the vegetarian haggis!
Vegan and vegetarian friendly, quick service, tasty food and very inclusive atmosphere! A local friend took me there and I’m so glad they did. Apparently this is the pup for groups participating in Samhain celebrations from rehearsals onward ;)
K. С.
Nice and cozy place. Very attentive staff, tasty cuisine and great Guinness, without any doubts.
Will return back again

Very well located, near the London road, Carlton Hill and Parliament, Regent bar's staff are extremely friendly and welcome all their guest with a big smile. The kitchen is open from morning to evening and the quality is very good. Decoration is good and seats are confortable, ideal for a nice chat with friends
J. D.
Fantastic pub. Friendly and Welcoming . Be sure to call in on our next visit to Edinburgh
L. S.
LGBT-friendly pub with a warm, welcoming aesthetic matched by the staff. A nice blend of clientele, including some four legged friends, and they sell a highly recommend Scottish mead!
T. Y.
Great service, good vegan butternut and lentil lasagna of the day and good atmosphere
Really chill :)
H. B.
Queer-Friendly bar in Regent Park area. Very relaxed. No loud music. Lovely people. Recommended.
K. S.
The people working here were very friendly. The bar is very clean. It was a delightful place to stop and have a drink during a long walk. Very welcoming.
J. E.
Very relaxing place with great atmosphere and some decent food and good prices
E.
Such an awesome place. I love it and its welcoming, chill nature. So happy and proud to have this pub in my area. Always glad to pop in for a pint.
M. P.
Good whiskey, good vibes and a sunshine behinde peoples eyes.
Thanks
B. F.
Magic place in magic city. Charming atmosphere, great service, delicious food... Why one should be heading somewhere else?
G. A.
A gay pub with a lovely, straight-friendly, dog-friendly, human-friendly atmosphere. Nice music, good real ales and cask cider, and a decent menu with lots of vegetarian options (the best vegetarian haggis!). Our first time here, definitely won't be our last... Highly recommended
K. K.
Best straight friendly gay bar in town. The friendliest staff ever! Good choice of drinks, and there's always a bite for the hungry. My favourite veggie option are the veggie nachos, that leave me so stuffed I don't have to eat for another day (also: good value for the money). You can book tables if you like, had a couple of birthday parties there. Dog friendly, so you can pop in for a cuppa/pint when out with your pet.
B. R.
Very cool ambience.. Wouldn't even know it's a gay bar but immediately felt comfortable. The place is filled with an amazing smell of food.
I found it very hard to see someone with a frown on their faces. Staff a very cool and friendly which is always added bonus.
Seems like you need to get here early for a seat which is needed as there aren't a lot of places to stand around
M. T.
Lovely bar, great atmosphere, friendly and attractive bar staff. They do a great selection of local and unusual ales as well as your regular ones. They have a couple of guest ales every month. Good coffee as well as some food if you're hungry. The clientele is very mixed in age range from young to older, and the music is not so loud you can't have a decent chat. It's a gay bar, but you get a good mix of tourists, straight and bi and sometimes students, so it's not exclusive. Overall 10/10
J. M.
Casual pub with good beers and friendly staff.
I. D.
Comfortable, friendly, not specially cheap pub. Attracts a nice crowd, incl quite a few dogs who bring in their owners. Busy when I've been there (mostly on Sunday afternoons). Good selection of beers, and food, and coffee. Interesting art for sale.
N. M.
I love this pub & have been going for years. Friendly, relaxed & comfy. Good beers, lovely staff & decent pub grub. The atmosphere is welcoming & easy going. Highly recommend going in a group, just a couple of you or even alone.
M. H.
Nice bar, open till 1am. Clean. Efficient bar staff. Great for a late drink when other nearby bars close. A bit expensive... £3.90 for a vodka with a splash of coke out the gun. Thank you for reply, I intend to visit again as I liked the atmosphere. Would recommend it actually.
C. T.
I love The Regent. In the world pubs - it's nothing special... but that's what makes it great.
The Regent is a gay pub that isn't like a gay pub. You won't be confronted with any LGBT+ stereotypes, not will you be confronted by loud music. You just get good beer, a range of drinks, a proper pub menu and some great staff.
Since moving away from Edinburgh I do miss this place - but I do visit when I come up.
E. L. S.
I come here quiet often and it's definitely one of my favourite pubs in town. It's a cosy place to just relax and enjoy with some doggies around. The prices of the pints can be a bit more expensive than the rest of pubs but it's definitely worth the price.
D. F.
Chilled vibe, great eclectic decor and great mix of people. Dogs allowed based on the few there at midnight on a Saturday night! Bar staff very fast and attentive. A strong ambassador for gay Edinburgh. Thanks!
S. C.
Chilled out, friendly bar with a good selection of beers and other drinks, in a part of town which is not too busy with bars. Didn't eat this time, but the food coming out looked tasty. Also very dog friendly - always good fun when you've had a drink to give them a cuddle!
J. J.
This is such an amazing bar. The staff and clientele are such a friendly, diverse and lovable bunch. It was such a pleasure this being our local pub while in town. They treated us like family and cared for us. Can't recommend enough.
T. L.
I love this place. It's friendly and has a great, cosy, inclusive feel to it. The food is simple, wholesome, tasty and great value. Elliot Sinclair's poor review made me chuckle. The guy seems to think it must be a gay bar because it offers condoms and lube in the toilets. Firstly, gay or straight, who doesn't use condoms and lube? Secondly, and more importantly, who cares? The Regent is a warm place that welcomes everybody equally.
M. J.
Might be the best gay bar I’ve ever visited. And I’m not even drunk yet! The mix of people, relaxed atmosphere, nice staff. No loud music! A place like this makes me wish I lived here so I could visit every week.
A. W.
Bar staff awesome! Lovely peaceful bar, away from the mad Edinburgh rush of tourists but within walking distance of Princes Street.
0.
Love this LGBTQ place!!! Everybody are welcome, dogs are welcome, bar staff is more than friendly (but not in that weird artificial overwhelming way!!) beer is delicious , food is yum, really nice and cosy, what do you need more!? My favourite pub in Edinburgh!!
C. G.
A well decorated cosy bar with comfortable furniture. Although it is still suffering from the effects of the lockdown and is not yet fully operational it is doing its best to get back to normal with good friendly service.
D. L.
Nice friendly bar. Good choice of beer and food. If you are in your own, you can chat if you want to or not if you don't and not feel out of place. Great eclectic mix of music. Would have given 5 stars but it's just a wee bit overpriced.
M. A. D. B.
Absolutely best afternoon gay pub in Edinburgh. Relaxed atmosphere for a catch up with friends old and new, with a friendly staff and great finger food (nachos are generously sized and tasty). Regent shows its commitment with the LGBT community by distributing informative brochures on community activities
R. M.
A great little bar (that I believe is also gay friendly, as all bars should be) a stones throw from Calton Hill. I've ended up in here a few times (mostly after watching Edinburgh's annual fireworks display at the end of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe) and it has a really nice ambience to it. The staff are friendly, the selection of booze is good and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. If you're in the area and fancy a tipple, or just need to escape the cold Scottish weather for a while you could do much worse than stopping here.
H. B.
Great local boozer. It's an original CAMRA pub with rotating casks. Albeit not the same amount of choice as serious craft pubs. They have old Rosie on draft which is a dangerously strong scrumpy cider.
The food is solid and comes in big portions. The popcorn is highly recommended.
It's a gay (friendly) bar with a good mix of students and all sorts present. Itis always has a chilled atmosphere so that everyone is comfortable. It's also dig friendly which us useful after a walk up Calton Hill.
B. H.
Very uplifting place, Bar and seating is clean and tidy staff as great, Will definitely be coming back.
K. A.
To be clear, this is a gay bar, but you wouldn't know. Very calm and nicely decorated.
R. P.
Always do amazing nachos!!!! The bar staff are always smiling and friendly.
R. J.
I love the atmosphere of this pub .Still quite trad in a world of modernity.
Friendly staff, good food reasonably priced.
quite a jewel really!
in my long gay life places like this are now a rarity
give it a go.
S. W.
Very warm & welcoming bar.
Food, drinks & service were great....at decent prices.
Everyone seemed happy.....what more do you want!
Would 100% recommend for a meal or just a drink.
E. F.
Super comfy spot - everything a good neighborhood bar needs.
Dog friendly, nice staff, good music, and tasty, creative food.
I would definitely return while visiting.
S. Y.
Friendly staff and homely settings. Very spacious where finding a seat is rarely a problem. Groups can reserve seating in the backroom for their meet ups.
They have a fantastic selection of food which is tasty, varied and affordable!
k. b.
Very friendly helpful bar staff, great relaxed crowd. Hibs were playing Celtic in the Scottish cup, but still a sound atmosphere (bizarrely my 2 Scottish favourite teams too)
C. H.
Often pitched as a 'gay bar', I tend to think of it more as 'gay friendly'. The Regent caters to a large range of clientèle.
Lots of comfy couches and armchairs and a great selection of board games, it's not a bad place to while away a few hours with good friends.
J. E. D.
Excellent food, had the roast beef Stovie & Oat Cakes (like a cracker). Super friendly staff & an authentic, neighborhood atmosphere. The unassuming places are always the best! 4/2018
S. W.
Was told no more drinks though I was sober, people may think 5 stars is weird but for me the story next makes sense. My friend was a mess and I mean so bad, I was told can't be served because of my friend, that to me shows the care this pub puts in the people that come in. I was not the one singled out, if I was I'd be upset but then they did say it was not me, and OMG my friend was a mess! If you want a pub that's opened to all then I say this pub, gay owners, gay staff but this pub is a pub and not a place that says you have to be this one sexuality to come. Need questions about this place then message me on twitter @stefanwentz but all you will get is the same I have said, i recommend. Best pub ever 😃
P. S.
If you enjoy pubs that have a relaxed, friendly vibe, this is the place for you. A wide choice of drinks/food options and absence of loud background music are a winning combination. Why can't other venues achieve this? One of the most enjoyable pubs in Edinburgh.
D. P.
Always a first stop when visiting Edinburgh. Had to cancel August, 2020 visit, but rebooked for the 2nd weekend in August, 2021. Alan is a joyous barkeeper. Hold on.....the vaccinated, card-carrying, hordes will be arriving by Spring. In the meanwhile, enjoy Hogmanay. What a hoot that was! (Oh, the stories)
J. S.
Edinburgh's most relaxed LGBT+ venue. Often as full of dogs as humans! Real ales and a warm welcome. Queer in a very laid back, homely way.
M. S.
Awesome place. Super friendly. Great guest ales. Dog friendly so even more awesome. Very welcoming. Good veggie food options and cooked in the kitchen.
D. M.
My only complaint about The Regent is that I don't make it along there anywhere near often enough. Such a friendly place. Great selection of beers. Nice clientele. Make sure to visit!
M. D.
A Great, relaxed place to go if you like your gay bars a little less glittery. Relaxed atmosphere and great staff. Good prices and dog friendly. A go to staple!
O. B. O.
Wouww, super clean and cozy pub, i am impressed.... 👏👏👏👏
R. M.
I love this place. Super dog friendly, lively atmosphere, sweet staff and plenty of options to drink. Cool and chatty patrons too!
R. K. E.
If you are not aware of the gay scene and don't know gay people, you probably won't even notice: it's a gay pub... but here everyone is welcome - even your dog! (Water bowl and GENEROUS treats to the ready.) The place is clean, cosy, comfy and nicely decorated. Not just a pub for drinking beer: They serve a pretty decent coffee (with a biccie on the side) and delicious hot chocolate. The hot food menu is extensive, quick and delicious. If you have only coins in your pocket, you can still sit down to a beautifully presented bowl of soup with a roll. DO try the chilli!!! A really decent and friendly place; we keep going back with friends, family, dogs... O and feel free to pop in solo with your laptop. Slouch in a sofa with a cuppa and nobody will bother ya. Free QUALITY wifi!
I.
Brilliant atmosfere and unexpectedly good menu as for a pub. Home made curries, soups, vegetarian options, fresh and yummy! Absolutely great staff and laid back climate.

One of my favourite pubs in my east Edinburgh neighbourhood is the fabulous gay real ale bar The Regent.
If you don’t like gay people, great beer and dogs, then number 1: stop reading this review, because I have no interest in writing for you. Number 2: you won’t like The Regent.
If, however, you think all three are great, then haste yerself up Regent Road in Abbeyhill. I once painted a feature wall in a bedroom the same shade of teal as The Regent’s frontage, because I love this pub so much.
Inside, there’s a horseshoe bar, and two sitting areas, with a range of table sizes. I’ve been in here on my own to read, and in groups of 20 to party, and the staff couldn’t be lovelier whoever you are. Very welcoming to dogs, but children can only come in if they’re over five and having a meal – an interesting vagary of the licensing laws.
There’s a great range of beers – enough for The Regent to win CAMRA Edinburgh’s Pub of the Year award a few times. Edinburgh stalwart Deuchars IPA is always on tap, although I tend to favour one of the many fruit ciders available by the bottle. The last time I was in a few weekends ago on a flying visit to Edinburgh I sampled McEwan’s new Red. Probably won’t be doing that again.
The menu is short but decent – The Regent’s nachos are the best in Edinburgh. There’s books and boardgames, a frequent quiz night, and lots of information about the LGBT scene in Edinburgh. I’m reliably informed there’s free condoms in the men’s toilets.
So. Books, beer, dogs, friendly crowd, and an old gymnastics horse to perch on outside the toilets. What more could you want from a pub?
G. B.
Lovely bar, really friendly staff and lots of quirky touches to look at. Good selection of beers and house wines. Dog friendly too.
P. T.
Lovely friendly staff, a good selection of drinks, and the BEST nachos in town (if one accepts nacho value to be determined by how much cheese there is on the plate). Hats off to the team :D
M. H.
Brilliant real ale gay-owned pub that welcomes everyone.
P. C.
Lovely bar.
Been a long time since I was here, but the beers are still good, they have a nice menu and the clientele are varied and fun.
E. C.
One of the best little bars in Edinburgh. Good vibes, good drinks.
K. B.
Lovely dog friendly pub popular with gay men and women. Great atmosphere and real ale, although a little on the pricey side.
J. T. H.

I have passed this bar so many times &never actually visited.seems to be that from what some friends tell me if you want a nice place peace n quiet unlike some off the bad smells and aptitudes of so many pubs and bars in Edinburgh regardless of your colors sexuality or creed you can get peace a chat and laugh here.I'm a hetro young man of 40 who lossed his wife to cancer 7 years ago ready to start a new happy lifetime with someone whom wants a life and not a pass time with a family man who shouldent b alone and should b settled and happy for life bye now and ain't through any fault of my own.recommend this bar to anyone deacent who is not prejudice and if you enjoy meeting New people as it has a really deacent croud
J. H.
My local -so I'm slightly prejudiced. Good beer, friendly staff, full of pooves, dykes, bicycles and transfolk - with even the occasional bouncy dog. What more could one want?

Sehr nette Bedingung und gute Bier/Gin Auswahl. Die Räumlichkeiten sind gemütlich, allerdings riecht es stark nach Zigaretten in der Ecke mit den gepolsterten Sitzplätzen.

Very nice condition and good beer/gin selection. The rooms are comfortable, but there is a strong smell of cigarettes in the corner with the cushioned seats.

(Translated) We really liked the soup of the day, as well as the beef and spinach lasagnas with mushrooms. The plate of nachos is spectacular to look at and they were quite good. I liked the vegetarian haggis although in this case there was a difference of opinion (there were those who found them a bit dry). The girl was very nice. The venue is nice. The prices are fine.

On va y retourner.
Repas du soir tenté du coup. Très bons. Des plats variés et typiques pour certains. La fameuse panse de brebis farcie. Plat goûteux à tester.
On pourrait facilement en faire notre repère si on restait...😉
