Reviews of Rose Street Brewery
C. A. V.
My favourite date night restaurant and pub downstairs. I love everything about it. The food is pricey but worth the price point IMO. Well done!
D. M.
I had Christmas Day lunch here with my wife and two daughters. The dinner was absolutely beautiful over 5 courses. The bar/ restaurant is in a central location in the new town with just a ten minute walk to the old town 'royal mile' which is a must when visiting Edinburgh. The staff are friendly and menu reasonably priced. 5 stars from me.
G.
A lovely story is attached to this place. You should go to check it out.
Nice food in a great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Ordered a steak but was over cooked. Staff were quick to fix the issue and got me a new freshly made one. Great selection of drinks. Overall, a lovely atmosphere. I highly recommend the haggies, neeps and tattis.
J. a. M. W.
Super friendly service. Loud rock music blasting from the kitchen was a little off-putting and unprofessional. The haggis stack was bland and the steak pie a bit dry. Haddock was good, as was the ocean catch.
S. H.
Came across this pub/restaurant by chance after a day at Edinburgh zoo, what a find! Nice clean restaurant upstairs above the pub, really pleasant waitress and excellent food, hot and plenty of it. The Crofters pie was delicious. Can recommend.

I arrived to Rose Street around afternoon last weekend, after a nice day exploring Edinburgh. We went in to Rose Street for one drink. When ordering I was hesitant in my choice of Guinness, as we of course keep the best Guinness here in Ireland. But I must say the Guinness was just as good as here in Dublin, and was perfectly poured (as you can see from the pic) by the very friendly girl whose name begins with P (forget her name). Very nice pint, so I stayed for another 3!!! I will definitely return for a few more, when we fly over again. All the best, from across the Irish sea👍🏻
C. s.
Very nice place. Traditional scottish pub with lots of different types of drinks and nice food. Good staff
A. B.
Really enjoyed my meal upstairs in Rose Street Brewery tonight. Good atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff, pleasant decor. Hope to return on my next visit to Edinburgh as there are several other items on the menu that I'd like to try. Haggis, neeps and tatties, washed down with a glass of draught cider, was excellent.
m. k.
Quiet laid back bar, choice of ales, whisky,Gin and Bar snacks available. Restaurant upstairs.
P. M. (.
Great food, great staff, great pub. Just loved it. Haggis was great.
P. J.
We tried this place just as a quick bar meal with drinks.
We were very pleasantly surprised at the tasty meal and very friendly atmosphere it had. You don't need to spend a fortune.
I highly recommend this place if you are in Edinburgh, it is in Rose Street.
D. M.
Cosy place, the beer is very fresh. Nice selection
S. C.
Their pies are fantastic! Also loved the haggis, neeps, and tatties.
J. H.
I was looking for another pub further up but needed a drink,so in we go.I was pleasantly surprised,it was better than the pub I'd been looking for.beer was good and food was OK as well.is was so welcoming we went in the day after before going home

Quick and efficient service with a good selection of beers. The menu was varied with a good range of pies.
M. C.
Delicious food, grilled salmon in champagne 🍾sauce! And Grilled chicken breast with bacon in whisky sauce. #recommend2021
M. M.
Nicholsons pubs never let you down in my opinion.Nice comfortable place was very busy ,so service a bit slow ,but food was good .nice place for a pub meal.
N. Y.
Foods are good as a U.K. foods. Waiters are patient and polite. However, they sent me a well-done steak although I've ordered an medium one. They politely admitted mistake and gave us bottles of beer for apologize. Overall, the experience is good.
J. W.
Great place for drink an food. Very pleasant staff and no rush.
d. b.
Not been in this wee boozer for years, hasn't changed a bit. Staff were nice, decent choice of draught beers. Smashing.
T. J. O.
Excellent service. Staff brilluant & friendly and the food was delicious served really quickly.
C. B.
Great pies! Would recommend (we eat upstairs). Rose street is a fun cute street and this place is a great option. And their kitchen is open in the middle of the day (unlike some other places)
M. D.
Rose Street Brewery is one of my go-to places on any trip to Edinburgh. The first floor restaurant is friendly. The staff are always smiling and spreading cheer. The pub food was excellent.
G. B.
Wonderful pub. Great beer and food selection. Worth waiting for a table. Haggis starter was perfect, and my steak was exactly as ordered.
Very friendly staff.
Certainly visiting again on next trip to Edinburgh.
A. W.
Came here with my family and loved it. All the meals were delicious and outstanding, friendly service! Will definitely be back
E. D.
The atmosphere was great, however, like in most pubs around here, the food was missing any type of condiments (salt included).
J. M.
My friends and I stopped in here for a late lunch. It was hard to find places with kitchens still open around 4pm. This place had great food and great service. I had the meat pie, one friend had a pie with haggis mash and the other a vegetarian pie. We were all happy and enjoyed our meals.
G.
Been hear 3 time this week and the girls are very friendly, but the bould man need to take a leaf from there book and there is a great atmosphere, great good, great selection of cask that's why we have been back
A. b.
Came up form Wales, forgot to book a table for Saturday day, landed here and they sorted us out with a table for 6 in the restaurant. The food is stunning and the service was perfect. Highly Recommend.
E. B.
Great place to try haggis for the first time, with neeps and tatties! The staff is incredibly helpful, and each one of them is a character. My friends and I all ordered different Scottish foods to try, and they were all delicious! Great, central place to stop in for some warm food and drinks.
M. H.
Very busy but was a rugby weekend. Choice of beers, the Pale ale was fine. The let down was the food upstairs, the fish pie and steak/ale pies were both below average. Definitely not worth the price.
C. S.
My family and I found the restaurant by accident, but it was definitely a great find.
They were able to seat us even with a small baby in a pram.
The upstairs seating area was lovely and the waitress was just brilliant. She was friendly and helpful and couldn't have been more attentive, offering to keep the food warm when the baby started to stir. She was so kind and went above and beyond.
The food was lovely and reasonably priced, good portion sizes too.
Would definitely come again.
C. J.
Great wee bar on Rose Street and well worth a visit !
In addition to being extremely helpful and friendly, the staff are very Covid aware. Before entering they ensure you use the track and trace system and encourage you to order via a smartphone app which reduces contact with staff which is great.
The owner was on the floor constantly, sanitising tables / chairs and checking on his customers which is nice to see.
Very reasonable prices for the middle of the city with welcoming staff and I wouldnt hesitate going back 👍
W. R.
Fantastic classic pub at reasonable prices and excellent staff. When I mentioned my food allergies, they took a list of my allergies and ran it by the chef, however, they did make a mistake and gave me my meal with green peas, which are legumes that I'm allergic to, but when I mentioned this to the server, she was very apologetic and they rectified it right away. The servers were extremely busy on the Saturday evening that we went, they were incredibly friendly and attentive when you spoke to them, but our server asked if we wanted any teas or coffees, so we ordered some tea, which never came, so we decided to simply pay our bill and go.
I would chalk that up to the two servers being swept off their feet with all the tables, but otherwise, food was tasty and service was very good. Would definitely recommend.
D. H.
Superb food - Can highly recommend The Landlords sharing platter and excellent service. Looking forward to our next visit!
B. A. M.
Nice wee pub, good selection of beers. Good atmosphere. Defo go back
M. H.
Such a great bar. Usually drink beer but fancied a (Scottish) gin instead. Bar staff were lovely and spent time with us going through the Gin and whisky menus. Will definitely go back when we're next in Edinburgh and sample the fine beers..
J. C.
Friendly bar person great pint on nice afternoon 👍
A. B.
Lovely place, very cleaning bathroom and great music to listen drinking a beer
A. H.
Had lunch and a few drinks on a very busy Saturday. Service and food were both excellent.
G. E.
Always a great place to drink. Nice staff, easy going.
A. S.
Nice polite staff, and well laid out Public House.
K. N.
This is a lovely pub that we may have walked passed if Chloe hadn't have offered tourist advice.
From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome. We sat upstairs and were served by the fantastic Chloe who had greeted us on the street. We ordered 4 different main courses all of which were exceptional. The menu is exciting with something for everyone and very reasonable prices.
This was the stand out venue if our 4 day visit to the city.
Highly recommended.
R.
Great service, great music taste, and great food.
R. S.
It's no longer a brewery but still a great place. Very atmospheric. The lunchtime menu is superb - a free drink as well. Had 3 tasty sausages, mash potato and gravy and a pint of bitter for under £9.
K. A.
We so enjoyed our time at the Rose St. Brewery, especially the variety of authentic dishes (some of the best we've tried) and drinks in a very friendly, non-assuming setting. The staff were personable and refreshing though not intrusive. Very happy we found this jewel!
K.
We went here as it was highly recommended on social media. Lived up to expectations, good value for money
J. L.
Quick lunch - overall ok but far from great. Some cringe customer service.
7 of us went in for a midweek lunch. Opting for sandwich type dishes, the food was ok, but not special and I would say it was average.
Baby change facilities were dirty and not a pleasant experience.
Whilst our service was ok, I happened to overhear some cringeworthy customer service as I sat on the upper floor eating my lunch.
2 people wanted to join a friend who was eating alone - basically told to go downstairs and could not join her just for drinks. There was plenty of free space, overhead something to do with the way the bill is applied to the table?!
2 other guys came in to eat, kind of selected a table themselves but were basically pushed to another table that the waitress felt more suitable. Why I am not sure given the relatively small size of the upstairs.
m. g.
Second time visiting this great pub on Rose Street, but first time having food. Good menu, reasonably priced, fab food and service. Highly recommendedl. Only word of caution is full menu was only being served on 1st floor (which is lovely) and bar snacks available for ground floor and outside. Not an issue for us, but something to be aware of if stairs are an issue for you.
K. S.
Decent pub. Service was fast. Cider was good. Food was pretty good, not the best I've ever had, but I would definitely eat here again.
W. D.
Very busy but adhered to Covid19 rules ie disinfecting of tables etc. Great choice of Ales. Very pleasant staff.
A. M.
Excellent Rib Eye steak, recommend. Wife loved the Fish too.
M. T.
Staff friendly, but the drink is a little expensive. Food was fine, no complaints. Table service via the app was concerning. No options for paying via PayPal, android pay, etc. Had to enter your card details across an unsecured network, not great. Not really wanting to save my card details either so ordering was manual and time consuming. Sort out the table service app then I'd be back. Security of card details is important and other pubs manage this so much better.
P. P.
Good Food and great service. Need to make reservations.
R. P.
Good beer, friendly staff , nice pub and constantly cleaning.
R. v. G.
Great food, good atmosphere,recommended
j. a.
Very good. Friendly staff and the haggis and neepes were amazing
G. B.
Compared to other local pubs, this place was awesome. "The bald guy" - he made me say that, was great with service. Despite the painful restrictions placed on him by covid, he still went over and above for my wife and I to really enjoy our visit. Great atmosphere and reasonable prices for drinks too. Bravo!
g. r.
Nice intimate wee bar with outside seating..
However very expensive for wine. Bottle of sauv blanc nearly £30.00
s. f.
Nice pub and outdoor seating under cover.
Big selection of beers.
s. s.

Located in the heart of Edinburgh. Highly recommend for a quick meal the staff and food are lovely. Outside seating area to eat drink and people watch. Transport (train station /tram/bus stops) all within walking distance. Well worth a visit
P. D.
Good staff, lovely drinks
M. N.
Expensive and not the most welcoming.
Definitely a tourist pub
J. O.
Great food and service by the friendly staff. Im told the pies were amazing and my Cullen Skink was really tasty. A hiccup with our order was dealt with in an efficient and friendly way. We’ll definitely come back when we next visit Edinburgh.

Friendly and welcoming pub in the city center. Staff are lovely and service is quick. Nice selection of local beers and traditional dishes. We have had better tasting traditional dishes, but for the price these were OK.

J. W.
Great food. Nice and warm and friendly.
J. C.
Lovely food and atmosphere, we will visit again.
M. S.
Food very average. Tried to gain access at 10p.m on a Saturday night and told no tables, which is fine. When we walked passed there was at least 3 tables with no one sitting at. We have been in over the last two days and most tables were occupied, so please don't use Covid as an excess. The staff were great. The person on the door tonight just could not be bothered. Its a shame. We will not be back.
R. W.
Nice Classic Pub
C. M.

A. S.
My first toad in the hole ever and it was great.
S.
Sat outside for a drink. Lovely bar. Very clean. Tables were cleaned, as soon as people left.
B. P.
RESTAURANT REVIEW: Very friendly staff and is good and tasty for a tavern. Unfortunately the kitchen must be designed for a smaller place. It seats about 40 people and has 13 to 16 tables but on two visits the wait for food was impossibly long for a properly designed kitchen.
If you have extra time on your hands it's worth a visit but if on a schedule try another day.
B. G.
Great food. Really enjoyed the fish finger sandwich. Manager really helpful and friendly.
A. M.
Great place to sit and watch the world go by.
W. I.
Good pub plenty beers to choose from good menu from snacks to main meals ,nice seating area especially if the sun's out
B. H.
Liked sharing food with my partner.
T. W.

It was that good, we returned twice in the same week. My beautiful wife highly recommends the baked macaroni cheese
c. k.
We had a lovely meal & drinks here on Friday evening 31/7/2020. We all felt safe with the virus measures in place & all the staff were extremely diligent especially with food allergies. Definitely recommend
D. P.
Nice to find Timothy Taylor in this bar. Got good seat towards back. Playing good rock so enjoyed it.
a. R.
We had a lovely meal it was so tasty staff were very helpful
P. M.
Really nice place to drink. Didn't eat there but think there was a food menu.
K. T.
Food very good. Draught Cider and Tenents Lager excellent.
A. D.
Good food, good drinks! The upstairs area was closed when we were there last weekend but there was enough space downstairs. The food is great and they point out scottish local dishes ( great for when you have to take tourist out for food).
A. v. S.
Seriously good food, large selection of beers and friendly atmosphere. It can get a bit crowded during lunch but we could sit down without a wait anyway.
We had a great lunch, thanks to the tattooed bartender for helping me pick out my first cask alles.
A. D.
A bit average really, not terrible by any means but less happening than when it was actually a brewery tap.
B. S.
Decent place - clean, friendly staff.
However not giving full marks due to lack of quality beer selection, even for a normal pub.
Add the name 'brewery' to the name and I expect far better. There are several other pubs on Rose that take beer more serious than here.
Again, don't want to sound too harsh, this is a nice place and the food may redeem some (I only came in for a pint). Probably an ok place for groups to gather. Especially when the weather is nice to sit outside (they are one of the few with an outdoor seating permit).
T. d. J.
Great place to have quick lunch or a pint. Two floors, ground floor is for drinks and fingerfood, 1st floor is for food and other drinks. Had the chicken sandwich with fries, which was good but nothing extraordinary. Nice selection of beers too! Very friendly staff, had a nice chat with one of the waiters. Would recommend!
A. W.
This pub was amazing the food the staff everything love it plus the stovies was delicious definitely go back
J. H.
Naz, our great waiter, was very patient with our large group of 8. He recommended drinks and even brought some samples for us to try out. Most had fish and chips, and everyone enjoyed their meals. Lots of locals were there so we figured it must be good, and it was. Highly recommended.
F. P. a. H. L.
Great service , friendly staff even giving advice over different gins would recommend the Japanese gins
J. H.
Lovely staff, great atmosphere and very good food
I. J.
Great food, excellent service and nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend
G. S.
It is a very down to earth but customer focused pub It has good & friendly staff who do know their products so they can advise on similar or alternative ones The Real Ale is kept at a basis of top quality so the customers benefit at all times and retain sales through this philosophy. The atmosphere was also top quality and a pleasure to be amongst.
R. C.
Service, position & beer great, the sun was out, a nice cold beer and relaxed. Definitely will go again
M. C.
Had very good meal there...fish and chips beautiful fresh fish and the batter was light crisp ...excellent . Service was quick and the meal was not when served. I would recommend the pub
It does not have wheelchair access worth asking if they would serve a meal downstairs as the dining area is upstairs
D. C.
Good boozer in central Edinburgh. Been there for years.
J. M.
First time here. Lovely pub friendly staff. Considering the current situation the staff were amazing.
C. M.
Fantastic meal very reasonably priced. The star was our waitress Chloe. Very friendly and attentive. She also gave us the history of the pub. We will be back.
A. B.
Really easy to order via the App, and got a table outside in a Saturday at noon with no bother.
M. B.
Friendly staff and food was good.
S. L.
Great pub, very relaxing and comfortable to escape. Good range of drinks, comfortable seating and great friendly staff. Went there several times during our stay.
M. C.
Great food, friendly staff, feels like a historical building
J. I.
The food is delicious. I had Balmoral chicken which is chicken breast stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon and the sauce was to die for. The service was excellent and the waitress was extremely pleasant. All in all a very enjoyable experience.
A. K.
The service was great, very friendly and helpful. You can find food and drinks here. I've ordered haggis and it was delicious! Great location, nice atmosphere, clean. Unfortunatelly no accesibility options here.
a. b.
Great home cooked food and a nice chilled atmosphere highly recommended
S. B.
I've loved everything I've tried here includingwhat I've nibbled off of other people's plates when I've brought them here. Thank you for having a full crust steak pie instead of some stew with a pastry top. I've looked so hard for a good one and you've got it! The broccoli cheese pie was pretty delicious too.
S. A.
Really nice place to Eat and Drink
P. H.
Grub 🥪🍟was sound 🍺 beer great
T. D.
Tired from Primark shopping, I stopped in just to use the washroom and have one beer with my wife. We ended up staying for over an hour thanks to the lovely atmosphere. Very nice and knowledgeable bartenders who were happy to chat when I asked about the whiskys. Thanks to the older gentleman working there my wife and I finally found a Scotch whisky that we both really like. Copper Dog! We bought a bottle at the airport to take back with us. This was among our best pub experiences in Edinburgh.
M. C.
Was staying at hub rose street so ate here few times and drinks in evening. Staff very friendly food amazing will certainly be coming back on next trip
S. L.
If your looking for hearty well presents comfort food then this is the place. Staff are fantastic, friendly and helpful. Food is stunning. Can't recommend highly enough xxx
g.
Cracking bar .nice to chill after shopping in rose street..lovely pint of lager .pic.
S. K.
Traditional Scottish bar located on Rose Street close to the shopping areas and other bars, pubs and restaurants.
Not a large pub although food is served with traditional Scottish dishes available as well as British pub grub options. I didn't eat here so can't comment on the food.
Overall worth a visit for a quick drink-nothing too special but OK as a calling point on a pub crawl or perhaps a quick drink to break up a busy shopping trip in the afternoon or meeting point.
T. E.
Really nice food and friendly staff. Good location on Rose Street
D. S.
Very friendly a proper pub
C.
The food was out of this world. Delicious comfort food. Our meal was great, and all the dishes I could see looked equally yummy. Atmosphere was warm and friendly.
N. C.
Nice traditional pub.
P. S.
Nice place to chill with beers, the food was alright.
P. B.
A must visit pub whilst visiting Edinburgh for a day session! Always busy as it’s proper cosy and has a great selection of beers which are often changed.
Very reasonably priced too considering it’s awesome location on Rose Street.
Food served upstairs above the drinks and snacks only bar downstairs.
Super dooper 👍🏼
A. H.
First time in the bar and very impressed with the great choice of ales and lagers. The staff are so accommodating, nothing is to much. Ollie and Annie are fantastic with Derek being such welcoming hosts.
J. R.
Good service and very pleasant staff. And great real ale.
S. T.
Friendly and welcoming. Reasonable food and some local dishes on the menu. Quite pricey for what you get. Dog friendly bar seating area.
B. R.
Loved this place - great banter with the barman who I called Mr. 13 and so much fun for a holiday visit in Edinburgh. Such tasty cider too - it was hard to leave but had two terrific pints X
D. L.
In my experience Nicholson's Pubs rarely disappoint. The friendliness, knowledge and service we received at Rose Street Brewery was excellent. Ollie the Barman and the chap I assume is the Landlord were very welcoming. When I enquired about trying haggis for the first time, Ollie couldn't be more helpful and knowledgeable about it and the Landlord told me about which haggis they use and how they differ from brand to brand. To top it off, the hand pulled ale was great too. I can highly recommend Rose Street Brewery if you visit Edinburgh!
J. R.
Great beer with my partner after some shopping. Will be back
i. f.
It was our first time in Edinburgh. We had dinner at the restaurant upstairs.
The place was quite nice and the service very friendly. We tried the sandwiches which were very good and tasty.
Definitely we'll return in the next visit.
N. M.
Good service cosy pub
C. P.
Great pub, enjoy the local cuisine!
L. S.
Very friendly and helpful staff, ordered cullen skink and it was nice, I also asked if I could have a homemade scotch egg even though it's advertised on the menu as part of a sharing starter, it was no problem at all and it was delicious!
S. A.
Great pub, cold beer, app table service.
K. F.
A bit overpriced for what you get. But otherwise a well looked after, clean and tidy establishment
N.
Staff were lovely, very affordable! Great atmosphere and very cosy. Thank you x
K. P.
Such a pretty little pub, great food and extensive gin and whisky list. Staff are fantastic, in particular a young waiter who's service was outstanding.
M. S.

Balmoral (sp) Chicken and hubby got the Haggis, Nipps and Tatties - one of the BEST tasting dishes our entire trip. EXCELLENT food. The place was very busy and had to turn people away but I suggest if you have to wait to please do. The choices of drink were excellent as well.
