Reviews of Ryan's Bar

Great food and drink in a beautiful city. Only called in for lunch. When we're back in Edinburgh we will definitely call back for the evening drinks 👍

After an initial rocky start with not so hot food. This was dealt with immediately and politely. All day breakfast had and was delicious.
Been a while since I've had so many flavours on one plate, everything tasted excellent. Service was great. Im hoping for the same again next week.

We visited here for lunch and then breakfast the following day. Really nice setting and the food was fantastic!
D.
Excellent service, great food and well-priced! Many gluten free options and a beautiful view. Such a cosy place and our breakfast was delicious!

Ryan's Bar Has Everything A Warm Freindly Atmosphere And The Beer And Food Are Out Of This World. Service Is Fast And The Whole Place Is Clean. I Personally Will Be Back Here.

One of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh for eighteen years! However had a bad experience with a Claire Williamson and partner who tagged along with me in this pub last year. I invited them in to my home and they disrespected my home and I was cautioned by the police for their inappropriate behaviour! I still had the common decency to hand her bag with thirty pounds in it to the manager of Ryan's bar as I know what it is like to have money stolen from me. Asked for feedback from the manager who I gave her handbag to but no response. Had some fabulous times there with Mat and friends. Don't judge a book by its cover? As a humanist feels good to drink where I want in Edinburgh.

Spontaneously visited for breakfast whilst on a night away in Edinburgh. Passed this place on the night time and was drawn in by the indoor seating that curved round and was all glass, and the Christmas lights! Breakfast menu was perfect (see attached) and the customer service was spot on. I ordered eggs Benedict and he ordered a full Scottish! Both food and drinks were amazing could not fault and we hope to return on our next visit to Edinburgh. Would recommend. Fairly priced too! Great experience overall

Decent bar at the end of Princes Street, the main drag in Edinburgh. A tasteful modern feel on the inside with some really good pictures on the walls and also good frescoes on the domed parts of their ceiling. It also boasts what I can only describe as a conservatory? And a lot of outdoor seating with a good view of the castle. It also has a covered smoking area.

We were looking for a cozy bar with a good ranking. The drinks are fine but the staff is not really friendly. We were coming inside and there was just a short notice that we can order drinks at the bar and that we will only be served if we order food. In my eyes that is no problem, still a smile doesn't cost a thing. We atmosphere is quite noisy. Not sure if we would come back.
E. D.
Really lovely food (I had the breakfast) and well priced! Staff were very friendly and professional. Decor was really lovely as well, was all done up for christmas. Only down side was the toilets were dirty... not the toilet themselves but the walls, doors and floors needed a wipe! But all in all well worth a visit.

Nice space with a strong offering on their menu. A lot of their staff are obviously quite new (perhaps seasonal due to the time of year), but no problems experienced as a result. Particulary impressed by the waitress who spotted our receipt on the table out of the corner of her idea and promptly appeared with the card machine 30 seconds later. We weren't even in her section!

Friendly bar staff. Was in at a quiet time on an evening. Had lovely Cullen skink followed by venison pie. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the the good service of the staff.
C. J.
Maybe just an off day but normally staff are quick, efficient and very nice (they were still very nice) but place seemed to be lacking something tonight. Not the normal vibe and always come her for food and drink and atmosphere but it was just missing something this evening.
R. M.
Me and my wife entered what we thought was the whiskey bar (i know i messed up) and tried to make due after waiting for a seat to open up. Decent food and drink, I think they need a couple more staff and the wait times would be much better. Korean wings were like nothing i ever had in Korea, but not bad.

As it was our first spot while we started exploring beautiful Edinburgh after leaving our luggage at the hotel.
There was nothing better than sipping coffee and trying their breakfast menu.
We tried:
- Cappuccino
- Irish Coffee
- Delicious Banana Bread ❣️👍
It was breakfast time as we had morning flight to Edinburgh. The restaurant was super busy.
Anyone thinking to visit Edinburgh have it in your list to visit.

Had the Scottish breakfast and it was ok but nothing special. The staff are polite and friendly but the service was a bit slow (it was busy). We didn't get any cutlery before our food came which meant we had to wait for a server to come over and they didn't so I grabbed my own cutlery.
E. R.
Nice place for a drink or something to eat. Food excellent, friendly staff and artistic ambient.
K. A.
Breakfast was so good,, service was very fast and staff were very nice and polite me and my family enjoyed ourselves we will be back again for sure next month. My son Ryan couldn't help but pose for a pic outside as he was happy that he had found a place in Edinburugh that was the same name as him,, hahaha 🙂
S. D.
Great place, nice and central. Good view of the castle. Food is really nice, and reasonable prices. Good variety of alcoholic drinks. Staff could smile a little more, one staff in particular was a little grumpy.
Outdoor tables to sit at, on a nice day.
E. N.
Very nicely decorated in the old style. Clean, smiling waitres and there is plenty of space between tables.
S. A.
Loved this cafe. The breakfast was amazing felt we were on holiday especially because it was a rare sunny day. The service was good friendly and helpful staff.
J. L.
Nice, central place to have breakfast. I can only rate the porridge bowl with banana and salted caramel because I totally fell in love with it and ate nothing else. But if the other meals are only half as good, I can still recommend a visit here!
A. A.
Delicious food, especially the tomato soup and the starter with mushrooms. However, the stuff is not really friendly and place is packed.
C. M.
Great atmosphere with great wait staff. I stopped in for breakfast before heading into work. I got the Full Scottish Breakfast and was not disappointed. Highly recommend that you add Ryan's to your to do list.
E. H.
Very nice ambience. You'd think it was really old from the decor but I remember its earlier use! The staff were all very helpful and pleasant and my mac and cheese was excellent.
K. K.
Great place to stop for afternoon tea and people watch!
For 3.25 you get a large pot of tea along with the cake or pie of the day.
We happened to be there on a day with raspberry cheesecake and it was the perfect afternoon treat!
A.
Popped by to have dinner and left soon after as minimal to no vegan options available.
Staff were very blunt about vegan options which was good, they said its not something we do much of.
They were friendly about it.
Nice looking bistro.
V. M.
My husband and I had two excellent visits to Ryan's Bar recently while in Edinburgh for a few days. Fab lunch and equally fab breakfast. We would highly recommend. Lovely, helpful staff too.
M. S.
Enjoyed our food and drink. Not an exhaustive menu but adequate. The seating in the front of the building with views outside can only accommodate two people seated together. Pleasant and helpful staff.
V. M.
We end up here because of a voucher that easyhotel gave us. The food looks very nice but was very very greasy. The service is nice. And the view is also very nice.
A. L.
Amazing Food, very well priced. Very friendly staff. We came here everyday for a meal during our stay in Edinburgh. We especially loved the Breakfast options and the Goats Cheese Tart from the lunch menu.
C. M.
Very lively and crowded place. Nice location as well.
Food isn't great but staff is very accommodating and helpful. For drinks and socializing it hits the spot.
C. M. (.
Lovely attentive staff, but only 1 non alcoholic beer and while the hullomi fries where nice £7 seems a bit pricey for the amount.
S. T.
Was a local, over the the years. It's not Quite the the same now. Don't get me wrong the staff are very good and efficient. I miss the locals.ps. the food is good.👍
J. M.
Would recommend this place.
The service and the staff were great. The attention to Covid regulations was spot on, and it was spotless.
I only had a coffee which was very good, and the menu looks tempting, but lack of time didn't allow me to sample it
There is good disabled access, outdoor dining with great views of the city.
The prices are very reasonable.
Give it a try, if you have the opportunity.
N. L.
The place is nice but a little cold. Not many people were there while we went there. They have many different beers to choose - that’s what I like! The staff is friendly and the location is good. Though there are many more cosy places which in my opinion are a better choice.
K. D.
The eggs Benedict was very delicious and the staff were very friendly. We just stopped in for breakfast but the lunch options looked very good too.
C. M.
Fun lively place with great pub food. Great deals for small plates and a good selection. Excellent veggie haggis and brews!
S. R.
Popped in before our johnny walker tour. Which is right across the street. Had chicken tenders n cauliflower thing. And katsu loaded fries. . Served really quick which was great. And great tasting. Most enjoyable
S. S.
After having a pretty bad lunch down the road, I stopped here. A French brasserie type place with great cocktails and some gold comfort food. Great seats for people watching at that very busy princes st intersection.
Sally my waitress was super friendly and I'll be back for sure.
M. B.
Popular West end bar in good location. Reasonable food at reasonable prices. Good attentive service. Grab a seat outside during good weather which admittedly is not often in Edinburgh
J. G.
Lovely place to have a cocktail or coffee in the garden room watching the world go by. Friendly staff.
N. W.
Still an Oasis of midday calm in the middle of the hustle & bustle of the city centre, plus friendly & pleasant staff..
H. D.
Delicious food. The American girl who served us was really friendly and efficient. The interior is beautiful, with a high, vaulted ceiling (worth a look). Prices were pretty reasonable.
r. f.
Great place for food AND drinks.
The waitress was beyond nice, just wish I had got her name. The manager is so approachable and such a kind guy! Will defo frequent this place soon
H. P.
Menu looked reasonable however on closer inspection there were no vegetables served with most of the main meals and no side orders of vegetables to order separately. The fish and chips were very expensive for a small fish served with a small portion of skinny chips. We had to ask for water and ask for condiments. Although it's currently table service only we were not offered the dessert menu and were almost too late to order when we eventually attracted the attention of a member of staff. Won't eat there again and don't feel able to recommend it.
T. D.
The Full Scottish Breakfast is delicious and the service was great. We say on the patio and watched everyone bustle by as we ate
S. J.
Lovely bar and cafe one of my favourites. Quick service polite attentive staff. Good food. Reasonable prices. Loved having breakfast here.
Watching Edinburgh going about its business.
A. M.
Beautiful food and great service, thank you. I recommend the kullen skink, it was amazing.
D. R.
Amazing, went in for breakfast couldnt fault it, nice menu at a fair price well worth a go
K. M.
I attended the bar not the bistro but I will say the food offering looked good and I would definitely try their menu on another occasion
J. K.
Drinks downstairs at the bar, fantastic setting and delicious cocktails with great staff
R. M.
Always made to welcome (not always the case in other Westend establishments) - nothing too much bother - if you can - sit in the window seats and watch the world go by.
K. K.
Enjoyed eating here twice. It gets crowded and loud but it was enjoyable!
R. E. S. S.
Great views of the busy west end if you get a nice table. Staff is nice. Decor maybe a bit outdated inside but it's alright. I'm not big into pubs so my review may be biased.
m. v.
Traditional scotish food, great beer and a whiskey bar down stairs. Loved it!
S.
Great place for a drink and don't forget to visit Usquabe downstairs if you're a whisky drinker
S. K.
A cute and cozy little bar with good beers and great art works on the walls and ceilings.
p. s.
Beautiful interior and wonderful staff a real treat I must do cocktail
A. G.
Friendly bar staff, good selection of beers and gins, tables outside which are good when the weather is fine. Serve meals as well. Centre of town prices. Worth a visit or two..!
M. S.
We all enjoyed our visit with food and drink. We were disappointed that the conservatory area only seats 2 people per table. Staff friendly and efficient.
T. V.
Lovely place to sit outside on a line very sunny day and watch the world go by.
Would have given it 4 stars had we not had to wait 20 mins for someone to take our order, even though it was quiet.
A. P.
Great place with great food and great ambience. Quite reasonable.
J. G.
Really relaxed staff but also keep a high standard of service, great drinks and a nice environment.
Especially good if your served by my favourite barman Morgan.
R. o. R. F.
Went in for breakfast which was really good, we hadn't booked but would advise pre booking, staff were nice .
O. J.
Ryan's is a well-known establishment in Edinburgh. Its location makes it a great place for watching the world go by. Nice light food (think egg Florentine etc) and drinks. Very friendly staff.
V. P.
Lunch time, brown-blond waitress:
Lost in space!
The customers are not your friends, specially if they are older than you and you meet them for first-time! Somebody teach her manners!!!!
Y. A.
Food delicious but place very cold had to keep my coat on during my meal
B.
Went to Ryan's Bar for morning breakfast and ordered for the veg meals in the brunch options.
.
The staff is quite humble and polite and the food was very well presented and extremely appealing to the eyes. It's really did taste great!
.
Decor of this place is really good. When we said that the coffee served was cold, they happily served a new one totally on the house!
.
Really loved visiting this restaurant.
f. b.
Food was very nice and the waiting staff I couldn't fault. Would definitely return on my next trip.
S. M.
Great food and service. Had the lamb flank stovies. Wow - nostalgic but so tasty and warming on a dank October afternoon.
K. T.
Good location for meeting friends in Edinburgh, plenty of seating and good range of drinks including guest beers!
s. f.
Macaroni and strawberry gin was delish fantastic prices. The friendly welcoming staff were so lovely truly great experience.
Thankyou Ryan's Bar 🍸👌
N. M.
Very decent pub, I remember I had tried their burger a few years ago, which was tasty and we'll served. Hope it is still on the menu
A. H.
A relaxing place for a morning coffee and the scone and jam.was excellent
G. S.
Probably one of the best breakfast I have had in some time, quick and cheerful service, and great coffee too. We will defo be back here sometime soon and are are already planning our return.
K. C.
The building, surroundings, and atmosphere were great. However the eating breakfast here became a mixed experience.
The food was good but nothing out of the ordinary compared to other well reviewed places serving breakfast. The food and drinks ordered took almost 30 minutes from it was ordered to it was served.
There were no direct indicators as to why it should take such a long time. It was not crowded.
m. w.
Thourghly enjoyed chips with haggis in peppercorn sauce.
Felt we were in Paris without the wine didn't think it would be suitable with the haggis 😉
A. W.
Brill place. Great service, delicious Caesar salad followed by good strong cappuccino. Just like being in Paris or Rome.
B. T.
Had some food and some drinks here. Staff was reliable, food was tasty and at a good price! We will definitely come back!
M. S.
Excellent food. We had the vegetarian breakfast and its yum and worth every penny. Good service too. Good location if you are visiting Deans Village
R. W.
A return visit, and as expected excellent service, friendly staff and helpful. If your looking for good food, marvellous service. SMILING staff...Ryan's Bar..👍🏻
H. W.
We had a nice breakfast and portion size was good. However, the drinks took a long time to come out and came the same time as the food. We sat out in the glass area which was a bit cramped albeit was lovely to watch the world go by. The glass could do with a clean though! All in all this is a perfectly acceptable place to come from breakfast but there is much better if you want it.
r. b.
Warm, friendly and lovely food.
I had food here twice.
The vegetarian breakfast was incredible.
L. A.
Only bought a coffee and bacon roll but given special attention for my birthday. Great place.
R. M.
Friendly staff. Good range of drinks. More popular with tourists than locals.
G. C.
A very well placed bar to watch the world go by, very nice selection of beer and cocktails and very good quality food. Also very friendly staff.
M. P.
Highly underrated restaurant. I've been a few times now and each time I've been impressed with something - the first time was the service, when we had a very helpful, friendly and attentive waitress. The second time was around Christmas 2013, when I was invited to sample their festive menus, and the food was absolutely superb, as was the wine selection. I took a friend and she ended up making a huge booking for her company Xmas night out, which I think is as good an endorsement as any! The most recent time I went was for Valentine's Day in 2014, and I have to say it wasn't as good as my previous visits - the waitress we had was fairly inattentive, to the point where we had to order our drinks three times and go up to the bar to pay because the bill sat on our table for about twenty minutes. Shame to have to report that, but there it is. However, the food we had was delicious and very reasonably priced.
I'd very much recommend The Cellar Restaurant. Protip if you're booking: ask for a private alcove. If it's a quiet evening, you'll get one to yourself, and the experience is very intimate and romantic.
V. j.
Really beautiful bar that I went for breakfast and a latte...quiet when if isn't crowded. Only that they gave me butter and jam for my scones instead of clotted cream. And the scone looked like a piece of bread toasted in butter. It was weird.
T. F.
Good food , great service. Clean and quick love the painting on top
k. d.
Wow first time we've had Stovies. And they were delicious 😋😋😋
S. P.
Food was lovely, but service today was indifferent. I was waiting for my OH, but sat for 20 minutes or so without being offered a drink. It wasn't until hubby arrived that the waitress came over to serve us. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time, also asking for water. The wine arrived, but we're still waiting for the water. Also I asked for breaded haddock, but it was battered haddock that arrived. I probably should have sent it back, but I really couldn't be bothered waiting again for a fresh dish. Really disappointed as we've always had great service in the past. The waitress disappeared off shift shortly after she brought our food, maybe she was thinking about going home rather than concentrating on customers!
D. K.
Called in for late lunch on Wednesday & we both had the fish and chips which was freshly cooked, hot and extremely tasty. Our waitress Michelle was cheerful, pleasant, attentive and extremely professional. There is a good varied menu and at reasonable prices. Highly recommended
C. S.
Went for breakfast on both mornings of our weekend trip. The quality of the food is excellent, particularly the scrambled egg with smoked salmon. And the Scottish full breakfast is huge! Friendly and attentive staff. Would recommend.
C. T.
The staff were very pleasant and service very good 👍
M. J. I. H.
Nice city centre/West End pub, great sun trap on summer days with seats outside. I've been here a lot over the years and right now it feels it is at it's best. Food is good, much more on-trend, interesting choices of beer in tap. Definitely updated.
V. W.
Tasty, friendly and for a good price. Top.
D. M.
A great bar and friendly service.
Very welcoming and dealt with all the virus and social distancing measures in a professional but friendly manner
A. P.
Had a few nights out here for our works nights out. Have to say each year was getting harder to enjoy as we were a big big group so were loud due to length of the table but the staff kept telling us to keep it down despite no one else sitting at tables or even downstairs on our floor. Ended up leaving not long later as felt uncomfortable being there. First few years were the best nights out you could get and then last couple were like it was a different company or something.
R. L.
Perfect, central location in Edinburgh. Mid price range. Helpful, friendly staff. Absolutely average food. Baked potatoes were congealed by 12.30 lunchtime. Coffee was good.
B. C.
Nice atmosphere but a wee bit pricey
D. M.
Great atmosphere bar right in the centre of Edinburgh. At busy periods it can sometimes be difficult to get a seat so get in early if watching football or other sporting events.
Food is standard bar menu. Also nice place to sit and watch the world go by in the glass outer part.
Drinks maybe are a little expensive as it is in a prime location in the west end. Good pub for a pint though and always great buzz in the place.
C. P.
Actually very fond of this well spaced, comfy pub. Its not high class dining, but the food is good and portions generous! Nachos here are fantastic! Also a very good place if you want to watch sport. Its clean, welcoming and very good value! and during the week occassionally offer some free nibbles!.
L. W.
My experience of the menu doesn't extend much beyond coffee-and-cake (or wine-and-cake), but what I really like about this place is sitting in the round glass windows and watching people walking past. For that aspect, it's ideal and one of my favourite people-watching spots in the city centre. The carrot cake is pretty good too!
f. m.
Ryan's is a disabled, family friendly bar restaurant in the west end of Edinburgh. With ample seating and very friendly staff. What let this place down slightly was the food which didn't quite meet expectations but was still less pricy than surrounding options
A. C.
We were in Edinburgh for a week and stopped here for food and drink on four occasions. All the food myself and my girlfriend had was quite good and the staff, we were served by Nicole on a few occasions, were great. Ryans had a friendly atmosphere with a nice outdoor patio and our experiences there were memorable. Recommended to anyone stopping in the west end for a bite to eat.
T. w. I.
A great bar with a great view to the City centre and the Castle. The drinks could be a bit cheaper but this is normal for this area. The furniture inside the bar is great too. I will definitely come for a second time.
P. B.
With good food, great collection of drinks, awesome ambience, and a courteous staff, Ryan's has a very good blend of things going its way. Not to forget the prime location on which this bar is placed, and also the way the restaurant is kept a little aloof from the bar is commendable.
My wife and me had gone there for our anniversary, and while reserving a table, I told the manager to give us a good table. We were definitely not disappointed when we took our seats, although we were pleasantly surprised when we were offered a couple of glasses lf presecco on the house to celebrate our special day.
The food came at appropriate time and was very tasty. There were some vegeterian options in the menu, so tht was a plus.
B. D. (.
Popped in for coffee it was early morning people were having breakfast the food looked tasty. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Good amosphere. Yes, I would recommend a visit.
D. J.
Good beer and an excellent place for a pub lunch at the West end of Princess Street. Good quality pub fair, steak pie, fish and chips plus specials. Also nice to drink coffee in the conservatory while watching the city bustle. Good atmosphere, check out the painted ceiling.
H. K.
Food was okay. I got the mash with sausages and fried kale. The mash was good but not as great as Makar's Mash. The sausages were a tad salty. Service was a little slow and unattentive. It tooka long time for a server to clear our table from the previous customer and take our order, granted it was very busy.
S. J.
Nice atmosphere, friendly service and great location
J. O.
Delicious, authentic food at a very reasonable price compared to other restaurants nearby. Great conservatory on sunny days and most of all wonderful and attentive staff who seemed genuinely cheerful and happy to help. Will definitely return!
R. B.
Thought we'd have a simple meal for dinner, the steak pie was amazing, so was the beef wellington special. We loved the breakfast so thought we couldn't go far wrong for a dinner bite. It was far better than that 😀😍 just ordered dessert. 2nd photo is the sticky toffee pudding mmmm Cheese board is a cheese and ham meal !? Very good.
A. J.
Amazing place with genuinely first class service. The views priceless 👌 perfect Scottish breakfast 😍
C. J.
Considering staff were working to beyond 3am for hogmanay last night. They are bright and friendly this evening. Enjoyed a lovely roast beef dinner complete with Yorkshire pudding! - heavenly. Love the atmosphere amazing artwork on walls thanks for perfect evening Ryan's bar
G. A.
This is where I first met my wife so the bar holds happy memories for me. Staff are friendly, there is a good range of drinks on offer. Location is great with some lovely views of the castle.
D. S.
I often meet friends here for lunch as it's both central and very quick service - they work hard to get your food to you in time for a lunch break! I always order the burger and the sweet potato fries - both are great! The space and all the little booths are perfect if you just want to have a chat and catch up - it's never too loud or too crowded when I go in.
P. H.
Always a table, pleasant quick service. Good value and tasty
A. F.
Very attentive bar staff. Always seem to get served when it's your turn, a lot better than some other places nearby
Eating there is excellent, good prices. Saturday nights are particularly good - a perfect way to end the evening!
E. C.
Nice place to meet up for a coffee
T. T.
Such a great place, atmosphere in the bar is always awesome along with the food. Breakfast is served in the conservatory around the front of the building. A must try for anyone wanting a great start to the day with a good vice of the castle.
W. C.
Lovely service, sticky toffee pudding very yummy, prices good, location and view also positive.
T.
A very busy bar, location is excellent if you're planning afternoon in town. Reasonable selection of drinks. We just had a plate of chips as going out for dinner later bit chips were great!
G. D.
We had breakfast here. Delicious food, good atmosphere, reasonably priced, friendly staff. Ticked all the boxes for us.
J. B.
Went for a meal as a group of 4. We had pre booked a table so seating wasn't an issue.
I ordered the Legend Burger and was pleased with the offering, especially for the price.
The beer selection was alright.
M. T.
One of the best breakfasts ever. Great sat by the window for people watching, located centrally. Staff are super helpful, friendly and efficient. One of my personal favourite places in Edinburgh.
S. C.
Good bar in the West End with different options depending on your mood. There's the main pub part if you're after a drink and some eats, or the downstairs restaurant part for a more formal meal. Or for excellent people watching and a coffee there's the glass fronted parts towards the outside. Has a little smoking terrace bit at the side for those who require it.
C. M.
Nice soup good service. Very flexible. We were a group of 12 who ordered and paid separately at intervals apart. This did not phase the staff and they remained cheerful and helpful.
A. E.
The food was really delicious:)
p. r.
One of the best classic bar in Edinburgh. Nice staff behaviour. Nice location.
A. H.
My sister and I's favourite spot. We always enjoy the food - especiay the Nachos! Huge portions and great value for money. Everyone is friendly and attentive and great all round service. Also as someone with many food intolerances - they have always been accomdating, allowing me to switch up food on the menu to suit my dietary needs. Highly highly recommend you stop in if coming to Edinburgh City! :-)
v. r. m.
Get it, ask for the Soup and Sandwich and enjoy a beer while watching a match or just posting some pictures in Instagram. Relax before getting out to this delightful city. You won´t find a restaurant here but as a Stop&Go place is just the perfect one. Nice prices.
M. P.
Staff were a bit pushy and looked stressed. Must be due to rush hour, though. Food was great!
G. M.
Food was good and reasonable. But the service wasn't the fastest it could have been and the servers wernt very attentive. I did like the fact that I had to wait 15 mins to pay my bills when I clearly said can I have the bill and card reader please. Other wise it was a good visit and I would go again.
J. G.
Went in twice on our visit to Edinburgh ,warm welcome off the staff , recommend this place for food very nice .🌟
g.
Excellent service friendly staff nice atmosphere beer just right
M. K.
Lovely staff, great breakfast!
S. W.
Had breakfast here .Good service nice breakfast
a.
One of the staff members just called me "rude" cuz I was waiting too long for her to bring the paying machine. It was a direct insult to a costumer "me".
They always bring me non-clean cups.
The food is great and delicious, but one of the staff (short blond woman with a deep voice) is not respectful at all. I didn't want to escalate the problem as I wanted to keep enjoying my vacation. Instead, I have written this review.
E. F.
As usual a great pub. X
J. Q.
Best breakfast I think I've ever had! Truly superb with great portion sizes, friendly staff and speedy service. Will be visiting again on our next trip to Edinburgh.
K. T.
Love it here such good prices and we got to sit out and enjoy the views.
W. B.
Nice atmosphere, good beer. Sandwhich was a bit over the top. Tried to be fancy to justify the price but due to toppings needs deconstructed to eat.
p. m.
Burgers all round. Pink in the middle. They offered to recook. But refused scunnered. Onion rings greasy but edible. Chips nice. They blamed pink meat on tomato paste they put through burgers. I know the taste of raw meat.
s. l.
I've lost count the amount of times I've come here for chicken fajitas! They are sooo good! They arrive on a sizzling platter, 4/5 wraps and a generous helping of sour cream, cheese, salsa and most importantly guacamole! YUM! All that for £11. I haven't let myself try anything else on their menu, because the fajitas are so tasty!
Fajitas aside, I wouldn't normally come here for a drink. It always has sports blaring on the TVs, so not my kinda place. Although I do love the beautifully decorated ceilings, cosy banquet seating and.... fajitas!
Downstairs there is the Cellar bar and 'finer' dining that plays Jazz music every last Sunday of the month. Never eaten down there, but the bar is more contemporary than the main bar, which is traditional timber in style. There is a nice conservatory extension that surrounds the pub, which is great for soaking up the rays in the warmer months.
Like Rayan D. mentioned it's a good place to meet people who don't know Edinburgh well. Ryan's at the west end of Princess Street and has been around for a long time, since 1991 and unlike many of the bars around, I don't think it'll likely change hands anytime soon.
G.
Been here many times. Always a good atmosphere whether it's busy or quiet. Pour a good Guinness. Good location for public transport too.
C. G.
Beautiful architecture, lovely coffee and cakes.
I. O. S.
Loads of space, the paintings were really nice to look around in and the food is pretty good, nothing special.
The prices for the drinks were a lot more than average, even if it was a house drink.
C. S.
The food is delicious . You can also enjoy outside eating & drinking. People watching in a great location on Princes Street. Also lovely helpful staff. On the corner to the left you can just see Edinburgh Castle .
E. D.
Hot my order wrong but resolved it. Asked for fresh OJ, I don't think it was. Eggs benedict were nice but not great. Nice viewing point and decent coffee.
J. K.
Nice, centrally located bar. The staff are friendly and they have a good selection of beers and cocktails. Food is good too, and there are plenty of places nearby if you fancy moving on elsewhere.
D. B.
Excellent food and great prices. Service from staff was superb on a very busy night. Have rated it highly as it was a gem of a find. Only thing I would say is mulled wine is not the best I have had.
D. D.
Love it, great breakfasts....🏴
P. P.
Just had a tea. But the staff were very helpful and the ambience was just right.
I was intrigued by the menu and the Aperol Spritz looked delicious.
A. S.
Very good place to go and comfirtable seating. The food was excellent and service was great! Too. The cost of meal was verh reasonable, especially aa it's venue is just off Princes Street. I would encourage everyone to give it a go and see for yourself.
S. D.
Went their for breakfast excellent choice very friendly
C. R.
The view & the service are great, the food is OK at best. We both had fish & chips, which were a bit overcooked. I'd definitely come back for a drink some time.
A. H.
Haddock F&C large portion of fish & big chunky fries partner had mince & tatties large portion again aside from long wait for bill (they were busy) recommend for good selection of beers, location and good quality food at reasonable prices
T. R.
The pub is traditional with nice conservatory where you can admire the views of the castle. We enjoyed the full Scottish breakfast and tasty eggs Benedict. One of the best in Edinburgh!
r.
Great location at the West End of Edinburgh. Easy access by public transport from most of the city. Good selection of beers & a great plate of Fish 'n' Chips.
C. B.
We happen to be there at dinnertime, so we decided to be adventurous, and I'm glad we did. Great shetland mussels, very generous portions of other foods.
R. M.
Great food and surroundings and down stairs is really cool
E. D.
Great spot for breakfast.
Removing stars. What a difference 24hrs makes. This morning we've waited 30 mins for anything. Orders all around us are wrong. What a shame.
L. C.
Loved it had lovely Cool.drink with my Brother Robert outside in the sunshine 👍👍🌞🌞❤❤
S. A.
Visit the basement whisky bar when in Edinburgh city centre..... Very good with excellent selection of whiskies.... Food also very good with knowledge courteous staff. A must place to take visitors
G. P.
Good selection of food and some of the best pub chips I've ever had. Not fantastic for larger groups hense the 4 stars.
V. R.
Beautiful view from the outdoors seating. Has a reasonable selection of beers at a reasonable price, and the food is good (would recommend the Nachos).
Can get very loud on the inside if the evening is busy, the music is very loud also, and can make having a conversation difficult.
L. R.
Pricey and very cramped inside. Has lots of seating but little standing room. Serves food. Overall would recommend for a first drink of the night or as a meeting place.
T. W.
Had Sunday brunch with the wife and mother in-law, atmosphere and service was great, scrambled eggs were a little under done. Will be back.
M. S.
I had breakfast, ia choose pancakes and my bf eggs benedit. The pancakes were from a box and small, the fruit was fresh. I prefer the maple syrup on the side and was already poored into them. The orange juices had too much ice on them. I have to say staff was 5 *!!
S. K.
Nice lively place with great views of the castle. Good food and drinks and good service. Although it can take a while to get the attention of the staff just because they are so busy.
S.
Good spot, and great 'Dirty Fries' go well with a couple Belhaven's ;-)
S. M.
Nice friendly bar staff, does do food but didn't eat there as already eaten. Food that I saw look nice.
S. D.

R. W.
Had drinks outside and the staff looked after us brilliantly.
N. M.
Great location at the end of town, great food and a great atmosphere to boot. Highly recommended to visit, and the steak night with two steaks and a bottle of wine included made for a cheap nights dining and a great meal.
M. L.
Nice food, if a little cool, but poor service. Nonplussed that I wanted a burger without a bun, and everything took ages, even with asking twice
B. H.
Great food and drinks, wonderful friendly service.

Good place. Friendly staff. Food good value . Bar looks great from outside and ceilings are "artful"
S. S.
I love coming to this bar/restaurant, I also love the club sandwich that I have every time I come here...but they have changed the way it is made, the bread was so hard my skin in my mouth was peeling, there was hardly any mayonnaise on it, please bring back the old way 😫
Z. N.
Good place if you want good food and drinks

Just the perfect spot in Old Town for a pit stop on a rainy Edinburgh evening, for some local favourites.
Try a pint of their I&G lager (or a Botanist with tonic), pairs just perfect with their Sausage & Mash. If one prefers pork then their Gammon Steak is a good option.
Round things off with their Sticky Toffee Pudding, for a treacly delight (or their Lemon Posset, for a citrusy variant).
Our server Collette was both courteous and efficient, and her recommendations were spot on. Including adding a side of Haggis to our mains. If she could have, am sure she would have rustled us up some plain scones with jam and clotted cream; but that is a promise of a treat for another time and before 5:00 PM.
A. O.
Good atmosphere and reasonable price for food and drinks
R. F.
Fairly priced, nice staff and nice vibe
