This is the best place to visit if you want to get a taste of Scottish food. The staff at the restaurant was extremely nice. There was a lady who was extremely attentive and caring. She made sure I received a dessert even though the kitchen staff had left for the night. The food portions are good and are quite affordable. I would love to visit this place when I'm back again in Edinburgh.

Amazing local pub with great choice of beer and a fantastic whisky collection. Their staff is very knowledgeable, kind and welcoming and happy to advise if you need help choosing! Food is delicious- we had some starters, some of us had daily specials, others pub classics but everyone was very happy with their choice. You can also call and book a table If you'd like to be sure they'll have space for you.

Dont be put off by the outward apperance... this isnt a typical high street pub.... it looks like your typical "local" but the food here is second to none. We ate hear 2 nights (1st & last) of our 3 night stay, quality is right up there portion size is great and value for money fantastic (£42 for 2 mains, 2 desserts & 4 alcoholic drinks). The staff are fantastic and accomodated our changes to menu items with no problems. Karen is attentative & friendly (as are all staff) and seems genuinely interested in giving fantastic customer service. "THE ABBEY" has a friendly atmosphere and seems to have the balance just right. The picture is of the edinburger (highly recomended) & steak pie, pint of innis&gunn & vodka & coke. Cant rate this place highly enough, if your looking for a decent meal give it a go you wont regret it

This place is amazing! Food is delicious (try haggis bon bon starter) and the whisky selection is good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Photos added-their two signature burgers, were very tasty and the portions are generous.

Went for an early Christmas lunch with my 82 year old mum and sister today 5th December. The table was decorated with crackers and a festive centre piece. The meal was lovely (we went for the steak) and the service was excellent. We had a lovely experience and would recommend 100%. Well done to all staff members 5⭐️. Superb value for money ‼️‼️

We enjoyed a lovely festive dinner at The Abbey. My mother and I enjoyed a delicious and tender turkey dinner (my husband enjoyed the ribeye, father had the sea bass). Everyone raved about the food. Service was wonderful, and the decorations (including Christmas poppers on our table!) were an added bonus. We can’t wait to return!

Traditional scottish pub which offers great tasting, inexpensive quality food. Staff were excellent and the food service was fast to our table. The Abbey has a good range of beers and an excellent selection of Whisky. Select a favourite from their menu at your table or discuss trying something new with the bar staff. They have an excellent knowledge. Top place, we are never dissapointed, well deserved 6 stars.

The service at this place was amazing! Scottish people are the most friendly, but Karen was incredible!!! What's not to love about the Abbey! A fantastic, genuine pub that's been around for years, with a mixed crowd of locals, students, tourists, workers. A huge whisky list, with some great "tasting flights", a decent selection of beers and ales, very nice food (including ace chili, all day breakfast and varied specials). All at reasonable non touristy prices. Add this to a good atmosphere and several TVs showing sports (low volume, but main matches and events always turned up) and you've got the perfect blend

Staying in Edinburgh for one night only, a local tourist guide and fellow whisky enthusiast invited me to the Abbey whisky bar. Great selection of whiskies available including half flights (3 drams) for £10, from different Scottish regions. The real ale beer was good too, as was the food. Loved the spicy relish in the big burger bap. On this particular evening (Thursday), it was Quiz night with the angriest question master I've ever heard. He got so annoyed that he cancelled one round altogetger because a few teams wound him up too much. The quiz was a marathon though. I can certainly recommend the Abbey whisky bar to anyone visiting Edinburgh and wanting a real local atmosphere.

Perfect pub to see France winning against New Zealand for the first time in 14 years. Really good value for money, food is great all day long. The choice of whisky and the possibility to taste some of them for a really decent price should take you there. Take the flight!

Great bar and restaurant being up from Dundee for over a week I found this pub which reminds me of my local back home. Great food 👍. Any visitors to Edinburgh should put this place on their list of venues to eat at. Before the Covid The Abbey was s favourite eating place of mine. I visited last night after a 2 year absence and enjoyed a very nice meal. The menu as changed a little but still offers good quality dishes, well prepared and presented. The Abbey has a large selection of Whiskys from practically every distillery in Scotland. They also offer special offers on Whisky - giving you the chance to compare and find your favourite. The Staff at The Abbey have always been great and last night was no acception ... the usual friendly greating ... ready to help you through the menu and specials ... and attentive throughout the evening ... so a big thank you for yesterdays service. Any visitors to Edinburgh should put this place on their list of venues to eat at.

Been really wanting to have skinny fries and found the perfect place. Their food is really good quality and has big portions. Even the food on the other tables looked SO good. Really friendly and efficient staff. The atmosphere is really nice and warm, feels like those old pubs. They also have a great alcohol selection, in particular for whisky, I don't drink but my friends really appreciated the drink choice. If you want a nice night out and stay within budget, definitely go here!

Great pub with fantastic food. This pub is always busy. Price of drink very reasonable. Can get very stuffy in here, especially in the evening when the pub is packed. Great selection of beers and spirits. Toilets are clean. Lots of tv screens for watching the sport on a Saturday. 4 stars would have been 5 but for the temperature. (too hot to spend any length of time in here, unless your wearing trunks or a bikini) Still a great pub though.

Wanted to give this a good review but I caught some food poisoning, so all I can say is don't get the bangers and mash if you like spending your night in your bed and not your bathroom. The Abbey is my favorite pub in Edinburgh! It has an incredible selection of whiskies at great prices. Plus the staff and service was top notch. If you have the chance and it's not too busy, chat with the barman. He's incredibly knowledgeable about everything from whisky to politics to the NFL.

My wife and I ate here on our first night in chilly Edinburgh. We ordered the bangers and mash, mac n cheese, and a side of curly fries. We were starving upon arrival after a long day of travelling and were very very impressed with the hearty and tasty meals! Delicious pork sausages atop creamy mash and Yorkshire pudding. The Mac n cheese was creamy and full of flavour. This was a great entrance into traditional pubs of Scotland. Staff were friendly and the vibe was great amongst other people dining. Would definitely come again!
