Reviews of The Antiquary Bar

I went for a Pub lunch. What I got was actually fine dining. Pork belly and Phesant were absolutely fantastic. I take my hat off to the Chef for a truly fantastic meal.

Absolutely do not miss this pub a proper Edinburgh gem a true Scottish pub fab ale awesome food superb service ,treat yourself and make it a definite visit ...I had confit duck with all the trimmings fresh beautifully cooked executed at the highest level ... My daughter had a smoked salmon rissoto which looked amazing and my wife had sea bass which was sublime all the dishes were seasonal a absolute delight ..the chef should be absolutely commended for his food Awesomeness at the most highest level go you won't regret it !!!

I had a bad experience in the past here, but I have to say that, I visit 2 consecutive weekends the pub and never has happened again. So I update my review saying that the last two times has been wonderful, last time I booked and I ask to come with a 12yr old girl and no problem.
So 5 stars!
Good beer, good prices, and very good food.
Thank you for the experience!

The Antiquary is my local. Lovely friendly pub where I feel welcome and safe going by myself or to catch up with friends. Delicious pub food and excellent trad music on Thursday evenings, which I thought was only accessible in Ireland or the western Highlands. Annie is a wonderful hostess.
T. N.
Very friendly. Good food and excellent beer. We'd go back
M. D.
Great food here as well as good ambience. Traditional music on Thursdays. Excellent service. Friendly and inclusive.

Descent priced drinks. Fantastic quality food from locally sourced ingredients. Never would have expected a pub to have this quality meal and presentation. You can tell the chef cares about his meals and customers. Not to mention great atmosphere nice and attentive staff and pet friendly! :) I can say I am now a loyal customer. Keep up the good work! :)

We had an amazing dinner in this authentical Scottish pub, with lots of meaningful phrases on the ceiling, and people enjoying or playing games. Staff is warm and friendly. Amazing food! The whole street is beautiful for a night out

Great staff, food on point and a decent pint

Very cosy atmosphere and a decent drinks selection. The staff were friendly and attentive. Will be back soon to try some food

Classic pub in the more fancy borough of Stockbridge. Excellent food.

Great bar with a good selection of drinks and food. Love the real fire

Friendly staff and chilled out vibes

Stopped for a couple of drinks after walking round Stockbridge. This a great little bar with good food and the barmaid helped us find a decent table away from the football crowd. We hadn't booked in advance and it was a Sunday but we got a space no problem.
P. C.
Great food; good portions; homely style. Publooks good too.

Not a great atmosphere and it felt cold and uninviting. Used to love this bar.

We couldn’t recommend this higher, it’s a really nice, warm pub with great food and fantastic service from cheery, professional staff. If we lived nearby we’d be in here all the time.
M. C.
Like staff, general ambience and service. Not too "posey". Stockbridge on a Sunday can be a real pain. This bar can provide a wee escape.
S. G.
Great service, great atmosphere. Would like to especially commend the staff for catering to my dogs dietary needs. Much love!
M. P. C.
Great food, though quite a long wait for it to come out.
J. C.
Lovely and friendly. Children aren't allowed in after 5pm but they allowed us as we ate there.
Best mushroom risotto I have ever tasted! Lovely cosy atmosphere
J. K.
The best Scottish breakfast in town.
A nice, traditional bar, that could perhaps do with a kick off paint. Used to come here regularly for a breakfast on Sundays, when I used to live nearby. The generously sized fry-up with haggis, along with free coffee refills, makes it a good place to sit and recover from a heavy night before.
Always friendly service too.
R. H.
The best Sunday roast in town. And it's kind of a 'secret basement' pub, with good selection of beers and a place to sit outside when and if the weather's nice. Stockbridge is a very good area too, with plenty of shopping options before you enjoy a quiet pint.
G. R.
This is a great basement bar in the cool, bohemian neighbourhood Stockbridge. They serve real gastro pub food Thursdays to Sundays. Try the venison pie if it's on the specials menu. You might need a nap afterwards. Awesome.
P. M.
Great food don't go to late in the day if your hungry as the food doesn't last long. Advise you book a table as it's a busy place. It can get a little noisy too but it is a grand wee place.
G. C.
It is certainly one of the best, if not THE best venue for traditional Scottish music sessions in Edinburgh especially when Linda is hosting the session. She hosts every second Thursday re-commencing, post covid, on the 11th of November 2021. Another great bunch of musicians host on the intervening Thursdays!
F. “. π.
This was our regular bar during our stay in Edinburgh. A variety of beers and Ales are served and also Whiskeys can be tasted.
Delicious food is served until late and also a very good scottish breakfast.
Very friendly stuff always up for a small chat and some tipps for the city.
So THIS is a real pub how it should be...dark, beers, whiskeys and nice staff.
S. B.
Visited for the France game of the Euros. Despite there only being 5 people in the pub I had the best time!
E. F.
Visited this bar recently as it was next to the restaurant we had dinner. At first it seemed like a typical Scottish bar. But then the music started up! A live band of random people who had come together to play Scottish folk music while drinking away. People of all ages and background coming together to play. Loved it. Might be a bit of luck in getting the right night for this. Thursday night was when I was there.
L. C.
Nice beer, friendly staff. I like the basement location. And it is not too loud. So you can actually have a conversation there. And the Stockbridge location offers several options for the "before" and/or "after".
J. C.
Friendly staff and chilled out vibes

The 'tic is a perfect wee bar in Stockbridge to spend a Sunday afternoon nursing a pint. Friendly staff, decent prices and a separate room for sports and/or relaxing means that there's something for everyone. There's live music on a Saturday night too.
D. M.
Loads of beer to choose from and food too. It was quiz night when I visited.
S. Y.
The Antiquary is everything you need from a bar from the selection of beers to the fantastic array of cooked food on offer.
The bar is split into two very distinct sections: one interlaced with televisions and seating for live sporting events whilst the other more spacious for conversations and gatherings. Plenty of seating all around though advise to either reserve tables or come early if you want a seat to watch a game.
What stands out for me is the food - this is the place to go for a weekend brunch, especially if you are partial to a cooked breakfast. The meal, whilst seemingly simple, can leave many restaurants stumbling, The Antiquary has the dish perfected. It is my go to destination for lunch with friends and casual drinking in the afternoon whilst watching a game.
The only fault I have is, phone signal within the bar is very limited, so be warned if you need to contact others. The bar is equipped with wifi however, though it wasn't obvious to me where the password was written.
P. W.
Great food and service. Very welcoming of family and dog.
m. T.
Fantastic food and a friendly atmosphere. The pie of the day was cooked to perfection with a wonderful homemade taste. Keep up the good work!
J. G. G.
We had the best time at the Antiquary! Music, atmosphere, decent pricing, friendly staff - all wrapped up in a lovely setting on one of Edinburgh's iconic streets! Love it!
P. D. L. N.
I popped there last Saturday to watch the Arsenal 1 – Man United 2 footie game, although being there plenty times in the past. The Antiquary is one of my favourite’s bars in the Stockbridge area. Great deco with stone & wooden interiors, plus a fire place and several plasma screens ideal for sporting events. Happy and lively atmosphere during rugby and/or football games. Very good choice of lagers and ales…and they sell absinth too… The Antiquary always has an offer of 330 ml beer bottles for £ 2 which is great (It could be Sol, Stella Artois, or Brazilian Brahma depending on their stock)
The pub has WiFi (The Cloud) but is strong only on the “East” side/half of the bar. The only flaw is the dubious bar service provided by the vertically challenged bottle blonde tattooed lady (attitude problem perhaps…) the other two, the bloke and the younger lassie were faster and definitively friendlier. Should go back there to taste the food though…Recommended…
P. C.
The Antiquary is very close to my place and is a really nice place for drinks with friends. Set in a nice location in Stockbridge, this is a popular hangout (and not only on football nights). Great drinks and fab food.
A. M.
+ Good food for the price, good sized portions, Sunday Lunch always good
- Atmosphere is a bit lacking
- Service isn't great
- Feels a bit run down... Has potential to be really cosy
- Wine is not good
c. P.
Good meal or snacks very friendly pub
A. S.
Great bar, great beer, great food - tucked away in a lower ground/basement space in Stockbridge. A fine family pub, solid for a pubs quiz and all sport on the tv
L. B.
Sunday lunch is homemade and always so much you can't move afterwards, has a fun selection of boardgames and your not rushed away, really nice friendly place
a. m.
A cool cosy local feeling pub with pretty good grub. The bar is split into two completely different feeling sections.
A. M.
Excellent meals (especially the cow pie & game pies). Decent beer selection. Friendly staff.
C. C.
Intimate cocktail bar with low ceilings, fireplace and nice seating options. Minus 1 star for the average music selection.
S. C.
Excellent food, great beer, still on of the very best bars in Edinburgh
I. F.
Friendly staff and good atmosphere
D. G.
Sunday Breakfast was unreal
M. B.
Great food lively atmosphere and dog friendly. Staff were friendly and efficient would certainly recommend
J. G.
When the after-work rush makes most of my other favorite Stockbridge pubs crowded to the point of annoyance, the Antiquary is usually a safe bet for a seat and an audible conversation. This basement bar is cozy and comfortable, and it's a reliable source of quality pub food.
C. K.
My first experience of the pub quiz was a resounding counter-strike to the artificial intelligence cult. All occupants divided into groups and brainstormed the aging poet serving the five act quiz late Wednesday eve
P. H.
First visit here, nice pub and it's dog friendly which was a bonus to us. Definitely visit it again.
H. M.
