Reviews of The Caley Picture House
S. M.
I visited there for lunch with my wife. It was very nice place. All staffs were very kind. Very comfortable place. I felt I wanted some films in there. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you!
J. W.
Very good. A beautiful old cinema. Probably the best Wetherspoons I've seen. People are happy to give the business a hard time but they forget that they employ 30000 people and restore/curate old buildings.
The original cinema here was, itself, a partial conversion of the County Hotel, the site of which is marked on the 1876 OS Map and a map of 1846. The present grade B listed building was originally the Caley Picture House, having opened on 1 January 1923 with Game of Life – a silent film. In 1928, the building was enlarged for the new ‘talkies’. Several incarnations since then have included nightclubs and a live music venue – which closed after a farewell party on 31 December 2013. Well worth a visit!
A. M.
What a gem - unlike most Wetherspoon's this one is set in an art decor old cinema - they have gone to considerable effort to maintain the look & feel. A complete surprise from the entrance & foyer. Take the lift & enter 60's style bar. Enjoy!
J. D.
Great food and drinks for an extremely reasonable price. My steak meal with a pint of beer was under £13. Finished up with a pitcher of cocktails for £8.29. Order everything at the bar and the service is quick. Sad we found this on our last day in Edinburgh and won't get to go back.
O. M.
Just went there for drinks and definitely will be back next time we are in Edinburgh!
Beautiful building and very unique atmosphere.
Definitely worth visiting
L. B.
Probably the best looking wetherspoons I have visited. I love how wetherspoons combine historical buildings and value drinks and food. We were recommended to visit here just to see the bar and it didn't disappoint. Only had a couple of drinks but £3-4 for a spirit and mixer is good for the location. Toilets were messy, 1 blocked and over following, another looked like a scene from trainspotting but the rest of the bar looked great
I. Y.
Unlike other Wetherspoon, it has such a chill and lovely vibe thanks to the history of the architecture itself. I love the balcony seats, it makes me feel like I can stay here all day.
The service is good and convenient with the app. It's my favourite pub in Edinburgh.
C. C.
Buzzing atmosphere, brilliant service from all staff members, great food and excellent experience.
M. H.
This is now a Weatherspoons where a good variety of food is served. The building is beautiful inside and they have tried to incorporate the old picture house into the new.
The second picture I've posted shows the old picture on the back of the stage. Definitely well worth a visit
C. T.
Lovely atmosphere and very nice decor. Easy to order with the app, good service.
F. B.
Excellent pub being part of the Weatherspoon franchise. Great British food at very reasonable prices. Friendly staff. They also serve a large selection of different beers, ales and ciders. Absolutely recommendable.
C. S.
Absolutely stunning place to sit and eat, staff where fantastic and the prices are good, the food isn't the best you are going to eat but still great value for money, especially in Edinburgh
M. H. (. H.
One of the nicest bar of weather spoon so far. It was a theatre before. But they keep the theatre as it is except the sitting area. Nice clean tidy & comfortable sitting. Noticeable lighting. You will get a vintage vibe there. & taste of the food was really good. Good size & affordable.
A. W.
Looks stunning for a spoons! Breakfast is what you'd expect. Very consistent with all other Wetherspoons food. Staff made a mistake on one of our breakfasts but corrected it immediately without fuss. Great shout for an early breakfast in the city.
X. S.
I love the place. Its huge and you have a lot of options in terms of where to sit. The food is nice too and so are the staff.
C. M.
Had chips and a veggie burger; wasn't anything special but it sure was tasty and helped me not to get so drunk.
The woowoo pitcher and pints are delicious. Staff were cool with us moving chairs around to fit all 20 of us around a table and they were very friendly. Bathroom was very clean with big mirrors. 👌
d. j.
Lovely food at very affordable prices. As yet never had a bad meal. Drinks are also very reasonable. Staff are friendly even though they are always extremely busy
L. M.
Great food. Great drinks. Reasonable prices. Great service. Loved it.
M. S.
What an amazing venue, don't get me wrong the food in wetherspoons is a safe bet (hence we want there) but the building inside just overshadowed the meal - truly a great place
Food was good aswell, took a while to order via the app (family of 5) but did arrive very quickly
J. W.
Another stunning building spectacularly outfitted by Wetherspoon instead of being left derelict without them. Great table service.
L. W.
One of the most beautiful wetherspoons I've been in,an old picture house with 2 floors, service is always quick, highly recommend, will definitely return next time im in Edinburgh.
p. s.
Beautiful inside kept in art deco style. Friendly staff. Nice and clean tables, quick table service and delicious food. Many thanks to all hardworking staff for delivering excellent customer service!
巩.
Very cozy&comfy place to go, chill and chat. No music, no yells, cheap drinks, large room, quiet atmosphere. Highly recommend.
D. D.
It's a weatherspoons.
The inside is quite spectacular but it's still a weatherspoons.
We were told that we could only have one drink unless we were all eating (had two kids with us and they needed something to eat) seemed odd. Drink was fine, food was too
j. w.
Food, brunch coldish, door was left open to thr outside and could not close it so very draughty when we went. Very dissapointed that there are no deserts on the menu. But good value when you get a free drink with the mains.
M. H.
This pub is absolutely beautiful and the decor is stunning, I cant really fault the place or the staff, but the menu was a bit disappointing, I understand that during covid lots of restaurants and takeaways have put on a reduced menu, but to go to wetherspoons in Edinburgh for their beautiful Scottish breakfast and to find the only ones on offer were an English breakfast was really poor, no sign of haggis or blackpudding anywhere and to top if off hash browns instead of tattie scones. Will venture back when the menu is full and rate it again then.
T. F.
Let's just say the chefs in spoons aren't from Napoli! Pizza not even round and one of us didn't get fed for half an hour, rest of us were done eating. Staff were good about it.
D. J.
Lovely pub, would never guess it was a witherspoon. It is absolutely immaculate and whenever we are in Edinburgh we try to get there, it's a must see just for the main room and decor.
J. B.
Been here many times. Usually can get a table. Wetherspoons so cheap drinks and reasonably good and quick food for the price paid.
L. M.
Very nice pub. Great selection of real ale. Should make the toilet signage a bit clearer for the male toilets though!
G. C.
Very interesting building which has been converted from an old cinema. Typical Westherspoon's pub, plain, value for money food. Busy on a Saturday night as you would expect.
P. H.
Great little pub in the heart of Edinburgh, Great prices, Great heritage, The picture House brought back to life. But a bit dark. Very good staff, very helpful.
M. I.
Pizza was good, wine was average, building and posters etc were impressive. Upholstery of seats could be improved, too many stains on cushions. Prices reasonable
A. A.
The building is worst 5 stars, but it's noisy, messy, crowded, not cosy. It feel like a factory. Not welcoming. Price are good but the food is just okay.
J. S.
Weatherspoon inside an old cinema was very nice being on the far side of Princess Street near to the Waldorf Hotel . Meal being burgers and wrapped was of a nice quality and enjoyed.
P. S.
Amazing Breakfast very clean and staff are awesome Half way through my meal a young girl very professional asked me if everything was ok it makes you feel a valued customer The mural of the castle is a Wonder Loved The Caley.
M. M.
One of better whetherspoons! Gives Great Gatsby vibes!
T. R.
Wow! Spectacular venue.
Must be the best Wetherspoons we have ever been in.
Well staffed and the food is well presented and hot!!
N. F.
Wetherspoons chain always good value & so often buy up & take over old, no longer in use, cinemas so have a great decor or ambience people in general tend to like
m. k.
Usual Spoons menu with a local twist. Had the Caledonian Burger, has haggis and whisky sauce. Really good, forgot to take a photo.
W. T.
In my opinion the best Wetherspoons in Edinburgh, along princes Street turn left down Lothian road and on left hand side,,built on 4 levels and as you enter building there's a lift on right hand side which will take you up the levels,,oops and great service
T. B.
Nice historical building, very open and spacious. It's a Wetherspoons so it's cheap and cheerful and you know what you're getting.
E. H.
Very generous portions! Keep in mind to perhaps share if you're a small eater. The layout of this entire place is amazing, which was to be expected considering it was a former cinema. Ambiance was great to catch up over beers, albeit it was a little noisy. Then again, it's a pub so what do you expect!
j. h.
Beautiful setting service great congratulations to weatherspoons for keeping the building as it was we see to many of these old buildings being destroyed.
P. D.
Beautiful building inside. Food we had was well cooked and piping hot. Person who served us our food was very pleasant and offered yo get us our condiments
L. R.
What are good use of an old picture house.. Apart from the steps n more steps.. Lovely x
P. S.
Love this place, went to Edinburgh for a few days and thought "great a wetherspoons, cheap beer" but the experience of sitting in a former cinema while sampling aforementioned cheap beer was great.
P. M.
Really interesting place to eat/drink. Good choices and prices
C. B.
Great place, they've kept the original atmosphere and it makes the dining experience nicer. Decent food for the price and a great selection of craft beers.
l. o. s.
Such a nice building .keeping with the past. Food lovely 😍. Waiter so helpful .
P. S.
Very nice place and very tasty food although it's not made with high quality primary ingredients, but it's ok. I think that it's one of the sites with the lowest prices at Edinburgh. Cheap food and drink. But what's the most incredible it's the place itself, very big and beautiful.
A. H.
The place is very nice and big, and still manages to fill up. The visual style of the theatre is still preserved which gives a nice view down from the upstairs bar.
G. J.
Really enjoyable experience. Good beer, great food and really friendly and helpful staff. The best wetherspoons setting I have been in and the usual great value for money. Highly recommend.
D. S.
I mean, it is a spoons, so it's a very good price/quality ratio. I had the eggs Benedict with extras which was delicious. The food was served quickly and the staff were pleasant and informative. However the reason this spoons got a full 5* is that it is a converted movie theater and the dining area looked amazing. Big open space, a lot of theater memerobilia/props, really enjoyed the atmosphere.
S. G.
Great wetherspoons pub. Sadly only had time for a quick drink but the fact it's an old converted picture house makes it stand out from the rest. Will be back next time I'm in Edinburgh.
g. e.
Loved the idea that the cinema was turned into a pub / restaurant.
Food is nothing special, just honest, normal everyday food that's at the right price. Good selection of drinks and the service was fantastic. Would I go there again? Absolutely, in fact we used it every morning of our stay, breakfast was actually better than our hotels!!!
A. G.
Typical Wotherspoons except this is an ex-cinema (the Caley). Its a lovely setting. If you use the app its great. Service with a smile.
A.
Staff were brilliant. Food was good and so were the cocktails we had. Overall a great night
R. S.
Great food and excellent service. Loved the decor and the picture house feel. Will be back on our next trip.
Update. Couldn't fault our latest visit this evening.. great pints of Guinness
C. W.
Excellent food good service staff were amazing so clean definitely be going again soon
A. R.
Fantastic old Cinema setting with loads of History
Friendly staff and super fast service
e. m.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and good food. Will visit again.
A. T.
Lovely, upmarket, restored former picture house. Multiple floors and the usual Wetherspoons fare, served up by friendly locals.
C. A.
Large wetherspoon pub in old cinema. Good food from visible kitchen. Good cask beer. Balcony and bar accessible from long staircase.
K. J.
Good food great price lovely place
Great service thank you
N. B.
Can't fault it. Been a few times over the past 12 months and the food is consistently good. Lovely place.
A. H.
Not for those who are scared of hights but good quick service, but didn't bring glassed to go with pitchers or enough straws for drinks supplied
P. D.
Wow! Amazing Wetherspoons conversion of historic cinema in the city centre, the pub looks small inside until you look behind yourself and look up... it goes on and on and up and up.All spaces in the upper galleries have been turned into pub!
Great food here, fantastic curries on Thursday, perfect food.
Friendly staff, who were working hard. It is more expensive than the average Wetherspoons pub... But hey, it's city centre and in fairness, it's far superior than an average Wetherspoons pub! Busy... Vibrant... Enjoyable.
J. S.
For a Wetherspoons this place is amazing! This place was a proper picture house that’s turned into a pub, seating goes upto pretty much the ceiling, great selection of alcohol and friendly staff!
Would 100% return!
t. i.
Good size loads of seats , drink and food are very acceptable price wise, wasn't to busy which was nice , it's usually very busy it's a good spoons
G. T. H.
Had breakfast, could have been hotter, but very reasonable for the price we paid. Staff very attentive and pleasant.
D. W.
Good food at a great price. When I visited it was very busy, but being patient you can usually get a table.
A. S.
Very nice Weatherspoons conversion, keeping plenty of original picture house features. Good food & service as expected at Weatherspoons
M. Z.
Love the place looks amazing, open kitchen ao you can see how clean it is. And the place have a big history.
D. M.
Nicely done place. Usual Wetherspoons setup with lots of throwbacks to the venues history
Toilets in the back of beyond (third floor, accessible lift on 1st floor) lots of stairs, but decent enough access once inside (slow as hell lift). Think there's a couple of steps up to the venue and not sure if there's any ramps or anything, could be a problem for those not able to navigate steps.
Mezzanine bar tends to be quieter, but if you're iffy with heights like me, don't bother. Not a lot of room but most people miss it.
Plenty of big tables obviously catering to the area, but is usually busy so get there early.
H. B.
Excellent service, fantastic beer selection with many on tap. Phenomenal Scottish breakfast at great prices (with veggie option). Wonderful atmosphere: a mixture of the Great Gatsby and nice pub with a down-to-earth crowd. Free refills on tea and coffee. Self-seating and food orders at either bar. Gorgeous balcony seating. A must-visit!
T. W.
Really cool spoons in an old theatre. Massive seating area really high up where the old theatre seating was. Great view
t.
Waoww. Nicest W'spoons pub I've ever been in. Usual cheap drink, large menu, decent looking food, but the setting over three floors, with a bar top and bottom, and still set up like an old theatre, comfy seats, lots of booths, a good crowd, just superb. Jug of cocktail and an Innis and Gunn mango beer for £10. Superb.
G.
Despite being extremely busy the staff were polite and efficient, tables were cleared quickly. The decor is beautiful
A. S.
Lovely spacious historic building with a tasteful design complementing the building's original features. Service as expected in a spoons.
M. B.
Typical spoons. Drinks were fine, the food as consistent as Michael J Fox signing his name
W. B.
Pretty big with lots of seating. Prices aren't too bad for Edinburgh either. Be prepared to climb some stairs.
K. R. S.
Beautiful place, service quickly and food just like fast food. Nothing amazing but tasty, not bad. And is really cheap! 3 small plates for 7.50 (there not too smallest)
L. T.
Stopped off for one drink. Loved the decor. Door staff were a bit iffy, didn't seem to know we were there . Stood about awkwardly while they looked at their phones thinking we needed to be advised we could go in. I had to prompt them to ask if there was space and could we go in. That was the only downfall
E. H.
Great setting! Food was good and very reasonably priced as well as the drinks
S.
Great place to drink and eat, very nice style and cheap as well.
P. H.
What a venue! The old cinema converted into a Wetherspoons. Usual Wetherspoons rules apply. Huge rang of cheap drinks and food, spotless toilets, service was quick and more covid compliant than other Edinburgh venues I tried. A must visit, even if its only for a morning coffee.
K. K.
2 bars, nice mezzanine space, 1920s decor. Cool place. I wouldn't recommend the food though.
K. J.
Standard Wetherspoons offer in an interesting building. Beer offering wasn't brilliant, lacking variety.
J. H.
One of the prettiest I've ever visited, staff were friendly, despite what some might expect from the stereotypes of Scotland. Was also quite busy for what I would expect in a Monday night. Service at the bar was prompt and without any delay and had everything asked for. I did also visit the other 3 closest pubs and this one is by far my favourite. Will definitely visit again to see if it holds up.
D. R.
Typical Wetherspoon pub except in a old cinema with amazing decor. Good drink with fast table service.
L. F.
Love the vibes!! Fantastic surroundings! Food as you'd expect from a Wetherspoon's; great value, good portion sizes and filling. Loved the experience of dining in a Picture House! Speedy service through the app. Couldn't fault our dining experience at the Caley Picture House. Would definitely recommend!
G. S.
Good but no bud light at the very top but overall a great place to have a drink very nostalgic
G. S.
Great meal amazing atmosphere. Good times had by all!
A. C.
I Was in Edinburg just for one day and this restaurant, suggested by our hostel, made it perfect.
I wanted to try Scottish food and bier but I was afraid of the Haggish itself, here I had the fried and smaller version accompanied by whisky sauce and I felt in love with it. I also got to taste local bier and meat which were both delicious. The surrounding is amazing and special, something unique, only thing a bit dirty which is understandable when there are so many persons but still not nice (only reason why I don’t give five).
What I think was the owner is a really kind man with a huge heart. Because of the different way of ordering (through app and paying with card) my friend had troubles getting it done but we discovered it only when the food was already ordered. However, the man understood and trust us enough to let me go back to the hostel to take my card and helped us through the process patiently, without suspecting we could have gone simply away without paying. The time there became a precious memory and if I will be back in the city, I will not miss returning there. Thank you!
J. A.
Best Wetherspoons I've ever visited. Great decoration and I'm so pleased to say they've kept the old theatre structures inside. Food and drinks are the standard for a spoons, cheap and cheerful. They've even got some local beers on tap. Absolutely packed when I visited but lots of seating.
B. Y.
Really nice building. A great selection of real ales. I am guessing this is a new place by the staff not being up to speed (this will only get better). The meal was really good probably the best standard I've had from JD Wetherspoon. Also the most expensive one.
Other people will rate low but you have to remember the turnover of customers there will be mistakes and bad experiences.
I.
The wife and I went in for a couple of drinks and found that they were very relaxed on the covid rules as everyone was just walking around without masks ect which was very disappointing... Its nice inside with plenty of seating and if your looking for cheeper drinks and a cheap meal then its a good place to visit...
W. T.
Very stylish 2 floors and bars on both
S. V.
Worth a visit. Beautiful venue, good food and good prices as well.
B. B.
Great converted cinema, love how Wetherspoons celebrate the origins of the buildings they occupy. Was worth the struggle of all the stairs to sit up in the top section for dining in. Not sure how wheelchair access could be achieved, or whether I missed this coming up several flights of stairs. There was a disabled toilet though with radar key access.
K. C. C.
The best Wetherspoons that I've been to..a wonderful building. It would be great if the large photo on the screen could change and be a continuing photographic history of the city.
T. H.
Popped in here for a bite to eat.
Located in the centre of Edinburgh. Great building, keeping the historic character of its past. Fast & efficient service, consistent quality of food. Can't go wrong for the money.
k.
The best pub I've ever seen taking the location into consideration - Great choice of beer and burgers in offer. Absolutely satisfied with the friendly staff. Waiting time for food not too long. Nice and lively atmosphere inside. The balconies are really awesome.
C. S.
Fantastic building, sympathetically decorated. Staff were very friendly and helpful, but my only complaint was that hot food was served on cold plates.
M. N.
Nice venue, had a steak which was pretty burnt and had crunchy bits on top.
J. S.
Bravo to Wetherspoons for turning this magnificent building into one of their own pubs thereby saving it from ruin.
A. J.
Friendly and efficient staff, excellent good value food. Amazing building on 3 levels.
S. K.
Disappointing, Chip's hot, food lukewarm, I should have sent it back!!! Burger deal, arrived very quickly after placing order at bar. Also strangely only Tennant's lager available on meal deal. I didn't complain either, time was tight as was going to Usher Hall concert. I haven't been for years and after Wednesday nights experience, won't be rushing back!!
L. F.
Great Prices and friendly ambience Plus tasty Pub Grub!
S. C.
Lovely venue staff friendly and welcoming great service 👍
C. A. (.
Great Pub, Busy but very very good, an old opera house, hence the decor, worth a visit if you are in the area ;)
J. C.
Food and drinks reasonably priced, food tasted OK and wasn't too busy.
a.
Amazing building and very nicely renovated, but unfortunately the extremely loud beep from the microwave in the open plan kitchen made it unbearable to stay longer than one coffee. Otherwise we would’ve had lunch here.
G.
Beautiful decor and setup. Good prices. You can order at both bars: upstairs and downstairs. Or through the QR code. It felt really fancy but with affordable prices.
A. F.
I usually liked going to this one, amazing interior and perfect location.
It was a second time when the wine glass was not cleaned. This time friend got a glass of wine with a lipstick stain on !! Unbelievable.
She went to get another one, which looked like the lady literally pour it over to new glass and cleaned the top of it , which didn't not looked that clean too.
The have great steaks tho.
D. C.
The best Spoons I have been to! Breakfast is very cheep! And the pub is in a fantastic setting, highly recommended if you are looking for an affordable meal in Edinburgh.
C. O.
Popped in for a late lunch. Friendly staff. Stunning interior. Everything clean and service was quick with good food. Plenty of places to sit if it's not too busy as pub is over 3 levels with 2 bars
W. H.
Enjoyable meal and drink after theatre show. Excellent service and prices
J. W.
Love this venue the food is good and the interior is great and lovely to see that none of the character has been removed.
L. M.
Great atmosphere with standard spoons drinks and food. Would recommend.
D.
Nice place with great prices. The food is nothing special. Appreciated possibility to order via smartphone app.
S. W.
Probably the fanciest Spoons I've ever seen. Popped in for breakfast and there was a bit of a faff with some vegan items our party ordered, but it was eventually resolved.
R. H.
Good Bar with good food and great staff, good views if you sit upstairs but not for the fainthearted, not all the beers are on the App
A. K.
This was a really nice J.D. Wetherspoons pub in the centre of Edinburgh, in a historic cinema, with a lot of original fixtures and fittings maintained. It looked absolutely lovely inside! The food was rather good foo, especially the haggis bites and black pudding. Would definitely recommend visiting this pub while visiting the city.
S. L.
Food came fast, was nice and fresh. Staff were really friendly and very helpful.
J. F.
Booked at short notice.
Lively atmosphere. Lovely staff.
Really great drinks.
All three diners had fabulous meals.
A little pricey (for a Yorkshireman).
Would recommend!
Thanks.
D. E.
Standard wetherspoons menu but interesting interior
E. D.
Stunning interiors, The Caley has the wow factor. Busy, but lots of tables and service was friendly and pretty quick. Usual extensive menu from Wetherspoons with specials for the night and a pint at a decent price.
S. S.
Best Wetherspoons in the UK. Fantastic location and interior. Same great prices.
L. C.
Great Spoons pub. Really nice restored old cinema decor. Food and drink up to a good Wetherspoons standard. I went there at 7.30pm midweek and it was packed. Quietened down by 8pm. Recommended.
J. R.
Had a few good days there staff very good decent choice of beers
R. S.
The great place in the center of Edinburgh with excellent interior and quite reasonable prices
T. G.
Very interesting being an old cinema. Spoons pubs can lack atmos but this one doesn't. Combine that with the usual good drinks selection and prices and you have a winner. Check out the old movie camera in the lobby!
I. F. P.
Decided to order via the app and all went well. Would visit again and would recommend.
j. m.
Busy place, lucky to get a table for 4 people, good service and the fish and chips was good
B. M.
Beautifully decorated, wonderful artistic interior. I went with my college friends for a drink after class and it was wonderful.
I. M.
Fantastic former picture house building, housing a good Wetherspoons pub.
T. P.
Spectacular venue and steeped in history. Great place for food and a drink.
H. J.
Very nice stylish restaurant with great food! We were satisfied!
M. D.
The building is spectacular, lots of stairs, did not see a lift but it has been done out really lovely.
Food was basically the same as all witherspoon but edible
N. M.
Excellent gem of a place, could easily miss it walking past but is huge inside & aways busy. Bit if a mission finding an empty table if you're in a big group...you aren't shown to a table you just walk round till you see a group getting ready to go, then just hover! Order & pay on an App and your food & drink turns up shortly afterwards.
K. J.
Really nice building which has been restored beautifully. Unfortunately it's poorly organised as upstairs is closed despite the pub being very busy. Some customers left before getting a drink.
E. F.
Was extremely busy thought food would take ages but we were served quickly and efficiently
G.
Delightful little gem, always a nice time there
M. (.
Nice variety of tasty beers, proper pub food and stunning atmosphere with accessible prices. It's one of our '' must visit " when going out with the friends
R. D.
It's a spoons. It's fine. There's a lot of stairs.
S. H.
Great location. Visited during covid restrictions. Table service, limited seating and hand sanitiser dispensers to protect customers
T. G.
Lovely weather spoons with great ambience, location and the interior is just gorgeous. Ended up staying for two drinks and some food longer than planned as it's just such a nice place.
J. G.
Curry was decent but the bhaji looked like Vladimir Komarov
S. S.
Very interested place,ex-cinema as i've been informed.
Huge one.Dont have to book a table.
Friendly prices .Very kind people.
Tasty food and nice beers.
You can go either with your friends, family, your 2nd half or by your own.
Will visit it for sure when I am back in Edinburgh.
M.
Panini was a bit dry but normally excellent food
R. M.
Fabulous location for a Spoons, lay out of food area very good !
A. C.
One busy buzzing place with great ambiance, good food and great offers.
Wetherspoons is the place to be if you want to get drunk without being heavy on the pocket..located right at the city center of Edinburg.
J. H.
We went the weekend before the fringe festival. We hadn't booked an evening venue but the door staff took pity of us and found our group of 6 a table. Service was great and the venue is pretty spectacular
p. b.
A very carefully restored historical building that is a credit to the brand. Good service, too
L. F.
Ordered from the App. They brought a whole battered fish with chips for a child who is under the age of two who, wouldn't eat any of it - we had expected fish coujons. None of the food was very hot and, the burgers had no relish at all on the so were quite dry. Unfortunate visit as we have never had any issues in the past.
F. d.
Absolutley amazing. Nice old pub. But understaffed. A huge que at the bar. On a sunday morning they close half of the bar. En the people who sit there....... We didn't have a table any more. Strange.
R. o. R. F.
Went for breakfast & like all other wetherspoons you know what your getting, it was good & quick service.
F. N.
There are many fine Wetherspoon buildings, but this one is extraordinary - an absolute 'must see'. Staff, service and quality of food and drink brilliant, as normal.
C. S.
Great pub grub plus plus value for money on drinks...recommend 100% great venue...
M. S.
I ordered vegetarian pizza was really tasty, fully enjoyed my Sunday lunch with friends & service here.
M.
On the day we visited, the Whetherspoon app wasn't working properly adding to the frustration of ordering our breakfast 😠 On the plus side, this place is an old cinema and the building is grand and gorgeous. Standard whetherspoon food which is good value for money. Staff helpful but scarce on the ground. We will probably go back as it's a good choice for breakfast 👍
H. D. (. D.
Cheep and cheery, ideal for a quick snack and drink, before going onto somewhere else.
D. E.
Amazing atmosphere, the historic look of the theater mixed with a modern feel was great. Definitely worth a visit and enjoy a meal.
L. T.
Decent bar, does get very busy especially Friday night and weekends
E. W.
Lovely building! It's its up there as one of the best like Harrogate winter Gardens pub, we only had drinks here the place was buzzing, good atmosphere would visit again, staff lovely 2
S. J.
Very nice building and kept some of the lovely touches inside that have kept it like the picture house.
T. D.
Normal Wetherspoons menu served in a quirky and interesting environment.
L. M.
Standard wetherspoons but in a stunning location and building to match. Definitely one of the better ones.
e. l.
Nice venue...sit upstairs and think you're the the cinema with your cocktail.
N. A.
Packed out. Nice food. Lovely decor. Sitting up on third floor. Nice place
C. G.
Lovely inside, food is a good standard and service was spot on. Easy to order from the app
N. M.
Great place really good prices lovely atmosphere staff friendly and helpful.
M. H.
I went there with work colleagues for few drinks ,amazing food ,amazing place 👍👍👍👍
S. D.
Was OK. I really wasn't impressed with the large breakfast. Admittedly I asked for no black pudding or roasted tomato but I literally counted 3 fork fulls of beans. Flash fried bacon. 2 eggs were stuck together, sausages were beutiful, I didn't like the potato slice but that's my preference. Wife loves them.
Kids got beans on toast. Again literally if anything a small ladle of beans on dry toast. They give you 1 butter which dosent even do one slice but useless as the beans had already been put all over the toast. Picturesque but that's about it
Oh and the kids juice barely had any colour.
D. M.
Surpassed expectations for me. Not really a wetherspoons fan, somewhere I usually try and avoid so for this place to get 5 stars is an amazing start from me! We were passing looking for somewhere to eat and something drew me in. My partner even said "it's wetherspoons" just to make me aware but I was drawn in, just something about the look of the place. Once we got in we were amazed to see it was quiet, although I think it was more down to how people were spaced out within the restaurant as I noticed a few coming and going.
Staff were nice, helpful and what you'd expect. I went for the haddock with chips and mushy peas and my partner went for a cheese burger with chips. Both were great, better than I expected. Was good value for money, wasn't as much as I was expecting either.
Highly recommend a visit here, will be back next time I'm in Edinburgh.
C. F.
This is probably the best Wetherspoons in Edinburgh. It is very spacious and is on 3 levels. Can be a bit dim as there is no natural sunlight. The staff are a cheery bunch and the prices for Edinburgh city centre are good. Would recommend a visit.
W.
All good, plenty of choice and nice chilled beers
Quick service
Lovely and clean
M. T.
It's a wetherspoons, so it's the same drink and food no matter where you are. That said, the venue is pretty awesome. If you like your drink and food cheap in a art decor setting then this is the place for you.
R. F.
A good place to enjoy great breakfast, lunch and drinks with family and friends.
3.
This is an amazing pub. This was an old Cinema and the conversion has been done sympathetically, retaining many features of its past incarnation. Loved it !
B. C.
Fab place . Still spons good food and drink prices
J. G.
Very clean and staff very helpful. Price for breakfast just right. Plenty space to move around. Will visit again.👍
k. w.
This is a good pub for a drink and something to eat. A great place to visit with friend's.
B. P.
Very nice place to visit and very helpful security at the main door and the bar staff were very good and help full and a good section of beer and a good food bar I like to recommend this to you all
V. K.
This is my favourite Weatherspoons of all times. Seriously nice place with great atmosphere and the staff super nice and friendly every time I visit. Great place especially with a large group of friends!
P. D.
Excellent food and service, great price and fabulous location
L. W.
First time here, couldn't fault the food or drink, will visit a
D. N.
Friendly staff n great food with reasonable pricing
L. J.
Excellent decor and a lovely atmosphere. On a weekday the staff are great but at busy times like at the weekend they are less so.
M. S.
Cheap n cheerful. Lovely food, piping hot.
D. “. H.
The most amazing building I've ever been in on a night out. Loved it so much. The food was spot on too. The acoustics were on another level.
S. B.
Magnificent Art Deco former theatre with an excellent drinks range at incredible value. Yes, it is a Wetherspoon pub but that seems a small detail.
L. B.
In much need of a fresh coat of paint..! Atmosphere good though
K. T.
LOTS of stairs, but worth the climb!
Very loud, but it is a building that was designed for sound to carry. Excellent food, extremely pleasant staff.
J. D.
Could not get table even though letting people in,also 6 seater tables being taken by 2 customers and not willing to share that's bad,no help from staff no disabled toilets on any level to be seen, otherwise meal okay but plate of macaroni cheese served cold.
S. S.
Staff are always pkeasant and helpful. Excellent for breakfast.
r. f.
Amazing witherspoon, great to see how a old picture house transformed into a very successful pub, and still used as a community place to meet!instead of expensive blocks of anonymous flats!staff hard working, up and down stairs serving food within 10mins of order!fantastic young waiter's and waiteress! Could grace any top class establishment!hope Mr Tim Martin realises what a asset he has in the staff in cally!brilliant experience
T. B.
Quirky place, a lot bigger than any other wetherspoons I have visited. You get what you pay for.
C. P.
It's one of the best chain pubs I've been in. Food is fairly good. Not as good as a top class restaurant but great value for money.
S.
One of the coolest Wetherspoons I've been to, an old cinema transformed into a bar. Interior is the only reason to visit but it's worth it.
P. T.
Great location and good pricing for drinks and food.
v. m.
Had our breakfast here which was very good and a great selection . Ordering using their app was problematic tho so simply just ordered at counter . Overall I would recommend this eatery .
C. O. F.
Staff was really nice, food got served very quickly. Wetherspoon is usually great but this venue is just amazing, the name says it all but the theater is still surprising!
D. W.
Great pub, fabulous staff & service....
M. S.
Server very helpful, food great value. I shall return.
C. A.
An fantastic old cinema now a wetherspoon's pub. Inside the décor has been extensively refurbished. With ornate ceilings and cornices. On 3 levels the Stalls area the Circle and the Balcony. With a big static screen. Well worth a visit when next in Edinburgh.
A. H.
Food not as good as it was. Cheap booze
C. F.
Great pub , lots of space, reliable quality of food, no music so you can speak and hear each other.
J. B.
Standard Wetherspoons fare but worth a trip just for the glimpse inside the former picture house. Great views from the higher level. Interesting gig memorabilia.
G. W.
It's a Spoonies, it's got cheap drinks, good staff and average food. The picture house is massive and so there's lots of social distancing opportunities.
I've knocked a star off because of Wetherspoon's boss and his attitudes.
L. J.
One of the most fanciest spoons I have ever been to.
R. S.
One of the best looking pubs.Great selection of drinks etc. Will go back there for sure!
P. C.
Set in an impressively restored former cinema, a nice location for a budget meal or a few drinks. Only disappointment was there was no soya milk left and no interest from the staff, so no drink with breakfast.
D. G.
Central location and good choice of food and drinks at a reasonable price. Toilets aren't easy to find and a lengthy walk from main eating area.
J. C.
Cocktail pitchers are great especially with the app to order straight to your table and pay straight away.
R. T.
One of the best and most original Wetherspoon’s we have been to. Ordered from the app and staff were quick and friendly. Loved it!
B. F.
Standard 'spoons but with a unique interior. As others have said, not sure about the positioning of the open kitchen but service and food was good.
m. m.
1 of the better Spoon's big and clean. Love sitting upstairs
D. H.
Good food and great beer vast selection.
Service on the ball and food fresh cooked. Fish and chips washed down with a great cider (Aspalls).
I. C.
IT'S A SPOONS 🥄🤗 and you ALL know I am a BIG fan 😉 specially whilst I'm here in Edinburgh 😁
T. D.
It's a wetherspoons ,a old picture hall very nice place
A. M.
Beautiful old cinema. Very busy on Friday evening. Food was mixture of good to poor. Chicken burger overcooked and tough. Beef burger was okay.
M. D.
Fantastic old cinema that they have converted into a pub without losing the charm of the original building. Nice large bar area and plenty of seating.
M.
Sensational pub based on old hotel and later cinema. The best Wetherspoons pub in the UK?
D. M.
On the top floor but that was OK because there was a lift but there was a wait on the drinks being brought up.
A. M.
Friendly staff, nice place, option of refilling cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate - this hot choco was really amazing. And ofc good food!
D. B.
Amazing decor, great selection of drinks.
M. E.
I don't think I have ever given a 5* review to a Wetherspoon before! What an impressive setting! It was also very clean and they were very good at making me feel comfortable with their Covid measures. Some of the most friendly bar staff I've come across.
L. W.
Food good staff friendly had good time
K. H.
Amazing awesome place, three floors of tables, 2 bars, plenty of staff, usual great value food in fantastic setting 👍👍👍👍👍
L. M.
Entrance is really nice. Inside is quite amazing as loads of original features still evident. Service really quick. Good value for money.
M. G.
Inside it is not so cosy but I had my first Scottish meal: steak and gravy Scottish pie and it was amazing.
P. C.
As such a big chain of restaurants especially in more recent years its become more of a cheap and cheerful option rather then a go too. Food service can be quick and there is a decent selection but as for quality I've never had anything worth boasting about. I think the chain could do a bit of a re vamp and a clean up as it's starting to look like they are just settling for what they get rather then striding for more.
B. M.
Comfortable, typical Wetherspoon pub bit not as busy as others in Edinburgh.
O. S.
One of the nicest Weatherspoons I have ever been in, and that is saying something! A wonderful venue and excellent service as expected.
S. D.
Absolutely amazing you can get haggis pizza XXX
B. P.
Quirky adaptation of a cinema. Good pub food.
A. A.
It's a spoons what's not to like
J. D.
One of the most glamorous Weatherspoons I've ever seen.
G.
Weirdly classy for a spoons, but good food.
v. d.
Great decor. Good menu. Very reasonable prices. Staff helpful. Enjoyable experience.
f. h.
Sooooo busy but found a table quick fast service
R. M.
Pretty good for a Spoons. Huge place, best seats are up high where you can chill and people-watch. Definitely worth a visit 👍
L. R.
Really fine food and prices are good
J. A.
Perfect breakfast. Ultra fast served.
I. W.
Great use of a historic building. Love how all the old features have been preserved.
A. M.
Decent choice of pumps and the set up very good
E. Y.
Excellent atmosphere we thoroughly enjoyed the food and drink
K. S.
Great venue for drinks and food. But be very careful if going with a larger group!
We went for leaving drinks (30 of us) and spent a lot of money. By 11:40, there was roughly 10 of us left, we were told one of our group members was too drunk so we wouldn’t get served until they left. We all understood, even though he wasn’t bad, so he left. When he left, they still wouldn’t serve us!! Some staff were not courteous when we asked them to explain why and continued to draw us looks til we went elsewhere. Great for drinks - if only a few going!
S. C.
As good as ever. Very quiet for that time of day.
M. W.
Great surroundings, however breakfast scrambled eggs left much to be desired. Disappointing.
J. A.
One of better Wetherspoons we have been to. Used the app which worked well. Breakfast was very good value.
c. m.
While in Edinburgh this restaurant is a must. An old theater turned restaurant. Great food, staff and pink gin!
G. M.
Great venue. Good atmosphere and right in the city center. Big booth style tabled and two different bars.
M. R.
extraordinary architecture, and good beers too!
G. O.
Probably in my top 3 pubs of all time.
A MUST VISIT
T. R.
It's a lovely venue.
Breakfast was OK.
S. R.
A very busy pub - as are many 'Spoons - but just about managed to find a seat on a Thursday night. Setting in an old cinema was great and novel. Ordered using the app which was easier than joining the queue at the bar but had to chase up drinks after 25 minutes as nothing had turned up. On arrival, most of the food was the usual good standard but had to send a curry back as it was cold, but soon sorted without fuss. Would go back again but tempting to order from the bar next time.
G.
Always enjoyable, food is also great + Friendly Staff
C. D. M.
Location is so particular!!! Suggested not just for the theater but even for the food and prices!
B. H.
Good atmosphere, friendly staff, beer at good prices. Done really well in converting an old cinema into a pub
G. G.
Went here with some mates and couldn't believe the picture house is now a spoons.
They did a good job of making the place look nice and it has a truly unique layout.
It's as standard as a Spoons gets and you could easily spend all day in there.
Only problem during the visit was that it was baltic.
J. M.
Such a pretty place and affordable food as well. Unfortunately, one of our group forgot their ID (all were over 21) and we were stopped from ordering anything and asked to leave. That's understandably a reasonable policy and safety of minors obviously goes first. But not serving even non-alcoholic drinks nor food to anyone in the group was annoying for us.
Still, I'd recommend the place for anyone looking for a lovely atmosphere and some tasty (looking) food and drinks. All for good prices and including meal deals. Go there (and take ID) ;)
F.
Great service and lovely building with lots of history.
K. O.
Love our time there with my friends. Food is served until 11pm and you can get snacks we got wings as we had already had dinner - soooo good! I had a cocktail and it was very nice not too expensive. We sat down and just the vibe is relaxed and friendly not too loud that you have to be shouting for people to hear you. Dairy free menu available which I was happy to see! Overall its very nice and recommended just for a nice drink with friends. Not too fancy
s.
Good food parking not so good
O. O.
Great family outing eatery.
J. M.
Large space with plenty of seating available. On occasion food comes out over cooked or cold, but largely offers a good menu with what I concider a good breakfast range/quality. Comes with the standard quality to be expected of a Wetherspoons. Also a good variety of drinks available with relatively good prices attached. Great place to have a few drinks with friends, would recommend.
R.
Best spoons I think, awesome atmosphere and plenty of space for the ramblin rovers looking for a pint or two. Decent staff and service is good!
L. P.
Fantastic! Food was great. The building is stunning and the covid restrictions were very well adhered to. Very impressed
N. K.
A wetherspoons pub so you know what you get.Wonderfully decorated
s. b.
Great pub. Really nice food and staff are friendly.
A. C.
An stunning location for good grub and pints at good prices, perfect if you are heading to Usher Hall and are on a budget
T. J.
Out of this world what a make over stunning
J. C.
Wow! Fantastic and one of the best wetherspoon pubs in Scotland. The architecture and decor are first class. Over 130 tables over 3 levels. High standard of service and food excellent. It is a more expensive wetherspoon but the central location and exquisite surroundings are worth it. Very highly recommended.
H. M.
Typical wetherspoons, quite nice interior.
L. T.
Very lovely unusual for a pub
j. d.
Extremely busy and not very many tables we were close to the door, but service was fast and great for a Jug of cocktails.
S. n.
Great service but was very, very busy on the Friday night we went. One of the service staff outdid himself when we grabbed a table that had no seats, he went and found 3 chairs for us. Great pricing as well and atmosphere is awesome. Can be noisy though when it's a full house. Will definitely go back.
N. P.
Lovely building, fast, friendly and efficient service. Food looked and smells good (we weren't eating so didn't get to sample). Table service app is fantastic. Love the free coffee refills too. Only criticism is no decaff
E. S.
Price/quality of food is exceptional for Edinburgh
R. M.
This was a great experience when visitng our daughter who is at Uni in Edinburgh. We are no strangers to the Wetherspoons empire but this is easily the best. Lovely building and efficiency! By the time I returned to the table we were sitting at the 3 meals were being served. Wow. Not only that but food was very tasty. Prices as ever excellent.
P. C.
4 stars because Tyskie is one of the worst polish beer and here is recommended as no. 1 in Poland
A. Y.
Great venue with equally great heritage. Lots of internal features retained from the old cinema days. Very good layout internally, extensive bar and equally good menu. Being a Wetherspoon's bar, pricing is very competitive and if you download their app you can order and pay for your food and drink without leaving your seat. Well worth a visit.
S. P.
What a great Spoons. Wonderful building with great decor and a lovely art deco feel. Great to see the old projector in the entrance. I believe the toilets are award winning - I can see why. Its the first time I've ever seen clear glass on the toilet door. Food was served very quickly. Impressive considering how busy it was. Great atmosphere. I would defo be a regular here if I was a local!
P. M.
Nice place for good variety of beers and wine. Food good value for money and the burgers are excellent. I've only given 3 stars as it was quite cold, everyone was either moving tables or putting on their jackets. May have been the air con but I don't like a cold atmosphere when eating and drinking.
D. C.
Very relaxed atmosphere excellent food and a good wide range of beers always worth a visit
M. S.
Service is great here, especially if you order on the app, it amazes me how quick your order gets to the table! Can honestly say I've never had a bad meal here! Also, the building itself is beautiful! Awesome balcony to sit eating and people watch!
M. G.
Who doesn't love 'Spoons'? This refurbished theatre has a breathtaking interior showcasing historic images of Edinburgh. A must see for visitors and locals alike. You will find quick and efficient service and of course, reasonably priced food and drink.
S. W.
Good Wetherspoons pub. Cheapest place in central Edinburgh. Fairly quick table service.
G. N.
Beautiful place to eat and drink. Higher than usual prices (3 for £12 small plates instead of 3 for £10). Good location, close enough to the shops and sights. Bit of a trek to the upstairs toilets and the downstairs female toilet feels somewhat claustrophobic.
D. A.
When ever we are in Edinburgh we try and have a meal at this witherspoon
A. H.
Lovely place foodwas excellent and staff very help ful. Beautiful building inside. But the air con is far tooooooo cold. Made sitting very uncomfortable
V. K.
Really nice place, tasty food and very good prices
C. W.
Wonderful Pub. Many Choices , Many options to drink and tasty chicken wings . Want to keep going again and again . Lovely place ,I can see the Place is always busy and people are ready to serve us anytime with smile on their face
J. M.
This is a very new Spoons and it shows as looks very clean and shiny. They have created a very interesting pub here at the site of an old theatre. Entrance is up stairs to first level bar and further stairs to mezzanine bar. Luckily lifts are available for those who need it. Only criticism is toilets looked a bit shabby and only 2 cubicles which is a bit light for a pub this size, perhaps there were other toilets elsewhere.
C. P.
This is one of the few wetherspoons bars I enjoy being in as it still holds a lot of the charm of the film house that once stood here.
As it is a bar now expect it to be busy and be lucky tonfind a seat. Although the seating is spread across 3 "floors" it can be a while for you to get a seat.
S. 7.
A very tastefully restored Wetherspoons, yet another historic building saved by them. Also the staff were great!
C. “. M.
Amazing design, really creative use of an old theatre. Also feels reasonably spaced out through the different levels. You can get peace when speaking to people. Also table service via the app is amazing.
J. B.
Loved it fabulous interior old picture house, typical weatherspoons prices, food looked nice
j. s.
Great wetherspoons for food and drinks. Definitely worth a visit.
L. J.
Fantastic Wetherspoons located in a 1920's cinema, with all the tables in the auditorium and rear circles. A good variety of food and drinks, with lots of different beers. Food quality is good and my chips were great! Prices are keen and many dishes have a drink included. Close to the centre of Edinburgh and short walk to Princess Street.
G. N.
As spoons pubs go this is one of the better ones. Jakey and jobdodger free during our Saturday afternoon early evening visit.
P. Y.
The interior of this converted cinema is beautiful. Lovely little nods to its former days as a cinema. The nicest Witherspoon's I've been to. Not normally a fan but it has a good menu, friendly staff and again it is lovely inside. Reasonably priced drinks and some good offers too.
T. W.
Great atmosphere, fantastic scenic old building, friendly staff, quick service.
S. S.
Was recommended this place by the hostel I was staying in and would definitely recommend it to anyone spending a night in Edinburgh!
The venue is a restaurant/pub which has been converted from a cinema and the interior is very cool!
Food was delicious and well priced, with lots of meal deals on, depending on which night you go!
Would definitely go back
T. G.
Amazingly fast service despite being very busy. Great prices and an excellent range of good beer, and the fish and chips were good. The decor was well done, and we could easily have a conversation despite it being full on a Friday evening.
R. W.
Stumbled upon this place after visiting a nearby pub for craft beers.
A former no doubt elegant cinema in its former life, brought back to am excellent standard with a fair attention to detail by 'spoons - big round of applause! Main bar area is huge with the odd nook and cranny for a quieter spot to chat. Open kitchen servery as found in most newer Wetherspoon establishments. Beautiful drop globe lighting, dark pseudo wood panelling on the walls. Really nice upper tier levels which were obviously the circle seating areas.
Recommended.
T.
The history of the Caley has been preserved and made beautiful. We sat in a cosey booth for our meal but could still look down on the beautifully made big bar and old screen kept and it's history quite a sight very well done. The food was good with a very mixed menu. There's a lift and you can come and go without having to face crowds just using it as a restaurant
G. W.
Really loved the venue, location was perfect for where we were staying. The prices were good, the food was good as was the service. 🍻
D. M.
Grt place good service grt pizza we had
S.
Good breakfast and good value. Not all Wetherspoons are the same. The Booking Office about 10 min up the road is about 20% more expensive and nowhere near as nice. Cider £3.05 vs £3.99 and coffee £1.50 vs £2.15. Also breakfast about £1 dearer.
j. s.
One of the best Wotherspoons pubs I've been to, set on three different levels it is absolutely massive, having said that I went on my wife's Graduation day at the Usher Hall next door and we struggled to get a seat. We ordered using the app and the food and drink were with us in no time. Good quality and plenty of it for under £50 for five adults. Would 100% recommend if you are in the West End of Edinburgh.
D. L.
Visited for breakfast. The character of this building has been maintained through its incarnation as a nightclub and now as a pub. An impressive facade and circuitous route to the main bar area add to the flavour. Staff polite, breakfast was excellent.
E. L.
One of the best Wetherspoon bars I have been to. Beautiful interior with mezzanine. Two bars, huge variety of drinks. A lovely atmosphere in a wonderful location. It used to be a film theatre and the theme carries throughout!
A. P.
Wetherspoons have made a great job of converting this old cinema into a pub. The staff were really helpful to me as an app novice. Good choice of beers etc.etc.
B. M.
Not much atmosphere on this visit but I won't hold to that because I know how good this place is during regular hours. This was early afternoon and quieter than usual...foods great and fantastic drinks deals typical of every 'Spoon'. Difference with this one is the beauty and ornamentation of this beautiful old picture house or cinema if you please.
One of the top affordable places in Auld Reekie if you are trying to impress lovers or friends...
B. M.
Another great Spoons, this time an old cinema that was very thoughtfully converted. Eggs Balmoral were excellent.
G. R.
An interesting place to eat and drink. The building has retained its artdeco features of the original picture cinema and worth a visit for that alone. It is the usual Wetherspoons food and drink offering tremendous value. You know what you are getting if you been to any of the chain outlets. Staff were efficient and courteous. The food prep area/kitchen is in open view which I personally like .
F. M. (.
Great service for quite a big place. The staff was very nice and attentive, the app works well, also the food is good value for money, it wasn't too busy and really enjoyed it. I ordered some cask ales and they were fresh, great experience overall.
M. P.
Quite like how they changed the venue. Inside is Weatherspoons, which is reasonable food and well priced. However, at weekends it is extremely packed and no chance getting a table for food. Also not enough tables, but good opportunities for drinks. It is easy to find in thr center and good before going to a show or similar.
A. S.
One of the better place someone can find in Edinburgh city centre with plenty of options available on beers and other drinks and food menu is equally good.
With some deals running on Wednesday and some other for a bucket of chicken and a beer.
Staff service is very good.
Always enjoy the top tier
J. L.
Great place to eat lovely atmosphere and great staff, definitely worth a visit.
R. B.
Staff always smiling despite the place being extremely busy last night. Food came quickly and was fresh (you can see into the kitchen). This is definitely one of the better Wetherspoons pubs and stunning inside
S. D.
Very busy as it was the school holidays but managed to get a table. Ordered a gourmet chicken burger and 2 of the curries. Quite quick service despite the number of customers. Burger and sides were lovely, both curries were nicely spicy and tasty. The only downside was the garlic naan bread - it was cold - cold enough in the middle to have been served from a fridge.
B. H.
The cleanest toilets and nice efficient staff
M. F.
Probably the best Wetherspoon I have ever been. Looks like taken from The Great Gatsby movie. Really wide selection of beers and spirits. I haven't try any food there so i can leave any opinion about it. Definitely good place to visit on night out.
T. H.
Beautiful old cinema building. The usual Wetherspoons layout. Great breakfast and lots of great beers. Gets quite busy around 11 am onwards but there is plenty of space to enjoy.
S. K.
Good food and staff. Prices excellent

The exterior of this establishment does not the place any justice whatsoever. The attention to detail of the interior is stunning to say the least. The only downside is that the exterior facade is slightly grubby, and could do with a spruce up.
The food is exactly what you would expect from a wetherspoons, good value, good food and good service!

I been one year ago but still remember with very positive emotions. I felt very special there (from stuff side). They was keep coming ask to us how we feel and or meal is good. Even Chief come. Meal was very good.

Lovely friendly staff and good choice of food. The decor is very sensitively done keeping the original features of the cinema in its heyday. It felt like I was sitting in the dress circle eating my meal. A must visit place if in Edinburgh. Will definitely be back.

Just a great place saved by JDW. Quality real ales at excellent prices 👌. Wonderful building. Highly Recommended

Gigantic Wetherspoons. The food is basic and cheap. It even opens early for breakfast. The large breakfast is slightly excessive in terms of quantity.
They have a large selection is ale are reasonable price. (Very reasonable in fact.) Including a number of Scottish ales. There is an app you can use for ordering, it works very effectively and saves the long walk too the bar.
The venue has been renovated in a tasteful manner using an art deco style to match the origins of this former theatre.

This place uses the Wetherspoon app. Very convenient because you order your food by yourself and pay through the app. Very convenient. They also give you the 'drink included' option that make the whole deal a budget. Loved it.

Fantastic interior decor, an old theatre that's been lovingly restored to compliment its history. Huge place with plenty of seating. Amazing selection of beer too. Handy to use the Wetherspoon App for table service.

What a fabulous place to drink or eat. To be honest I can't fault it. Food is usually good and served quite quickly. The staff are pleasant, helpful com well mannered. But the surroundings are fabulous. What a place to visit this old picture house. It's a must people.

Amazing decor, great place to eat and drink. Must be the best weatherspoons in the country and we have tried a few! The location not all that good, street a bit grubby but once inside it's magical. Highly recommend a visit if your near princess street.

Beautiful venue would have been 5 stars but on the day we went the card readers all decided to shut down so was abit hectic and if ya didnt have cash u had to then go get some also for a while the wetherspoons app didnt work in there. The staff lacked abit of common sense too well only one member we told her we had cash of the reader didnt work and she stood there waiting for the till to reboot when there was a queue she could have been making our drinks while it was rebooting just didnt make any sense. Really is a nice place though

Very impressive place, well decorated keeping the theme of the picture house. Although this is a huge place, it was hard to find a seat when we went. Granted the time of year with Christmas market etc being on, obviously contributed to the volume of people around Edinburgh.

An iconic venue retaining lots of art deco charm. Great selection of food and beers with great service. Although steeped in tradition reflecting the old Edinburgh cinema being a Wetherspoon's bar, you can download the app and order food and drink without even moving from your table. Fantastic mix if old and new. Well worth a visit.

Most impressive "pub" I've ever visited, makes you feel like entering a time machine to the golden 20's. Love the blue/gold combination & the stunning building itself. I was sitting on the highest level, had this amazing view while eating delicious salmon fillet & felt like a princess. Fantastic location & affordable prices, really pleased I found this place!

It's a Wetherspoon pub so the drinks are reasonably priced, as is the food. Much of the fabric of the building has been retained making it a great atmosphere to relax in. It is clean, tidy with attentive staff. Good selection of drinks on offer with a number of draught beers and lager on offer. Plenty of seats and does cater for families although there is a time limit for children.

Wow what a place to eat fantastic..

Great spot: beautifully and unusual place, nice beer/drink selection and pub food at good price. Quickly crowded at peak times and finding a table can be complicated, be aware. Tips: Using the Wetherspoon app is a short cut when busy and within the stairs tables!

You go all the way to Edinburgh, go out for a drink and end up in a Wetherspoon. Okay it wasn't our only stop... But, the building and layout is interesting, the beer choice was good and the place was full of people. In fact our only problem was finding somewhere to sit / stand. Would go again.

Seen a few bands in here back in the day,,,😊

Built into former 1930's cinema. Cavernous room, large dining capacity. Largest area is Stalls, flattened out. Circle has smaller number of tables on different levels.
A Wetherspoon's, with what that implies. Went on Tuesday a Steak Night. A good cut of meat, done accurately as requested. Good dessert. Prompt service.
Also with friends an afternoon pizza - good flavour.

Part of the Wetherspoon group, as the name suggests, it is a beautifully restored and repurposed picture house, complete with tiered eating areas. definitely a great way to eat and drink well for a reasonable price. Great breakfasts.

Absolutely outstanding addition to Wetherspoon's portfolio, and a fantastic job of saving and restoring this great building. A flagship pub, with top quality decor and furnishings. Makes good use of the old stalls, with many different areas to sit, and I wonder how many people will discover the bar at the very top? First class venue.

The usual Spoons experience but in the cinematic setting of a glorious former picture house, replete with film photos and paraphernalia. Choose to sit in the stalls near the main bar or welcome to the cheap seats in the Gods balcony. All well and good except I can't help feeling that the curtains should go up to let Buster Keaton dance across the silver screen. Or a band or a troupe of actors could swan on stage and beguile us. Wasted opportunity....

A lovely old cinema turned pub with decorations from its cinema days. Aside from this it's a typical Wetherspoon pub. We went on a Friday evening for a quick meal and managed to get a table after about 10 minutes, though it was very busy.

Interesting expensively refurbished cinema retaining many of the original features. Massive screen occupies one wall, but just a static picture still. Better with slides? Plenty of ground floor tables and booths but three gallery table areas offer spacious tables with fabulous views, if you don't suffer from vertigo. Food and drink great selection and price. Is it the best Wetherspoon in Edinburgh?
B. C.
Great place and price/quality relationship. They also offer children’s menu

With out any hesitation the best wetherspoons I have ever been too. The food was absolutely amazing the chefs there deserve a raise for that top shelf delivery. And if foods not your thing the decor is truly breathtaking and a must see. Every other wetherspoons take notice and follow the example of this all round package.

A tastefully converted former cinema now a Wetherspoons

This place is huge. Three floors, over 100 tables. There are two bars, one on the ground floor and one up in the gods. I actually got lost trying to find my way back to my table after going to the loo. Bouncers were very nice and pointed me back to my table.
Other than that; gorgeous decor on a standard 'Spoons.

Lovely decor, nice and spacious. Still has a bit of old world charm. Don't play any music so it's a great pub for just hanging out and chatting. Food is average but not too expensive.

One of the best Wetherspoon I’ve had visited. Beautiful place, nice food and kind staff.

I went with my son on the 6th August, what amazed me was half the staff where not wearing mask while serving food and drinks,, health and safety of other is supposed to be the number one thing,, because they could contact coronavirous and pass it on to other,, apart from that the food was good
