Had such a fantastic time at The Cocktail Geeks! The place was clearly very popular as we had to wait for an indoor table so reserving a table is recommended. They have a wide selection of drinks for a very reasonable price and they were all really interesting and well linked to superheroes. The friendly neighbourhood cocktail was really nice if you like sweet drinks. You can also purchase the comic for £5 and other related products. If I lived in Edinburgh, I would be coming here for drinks all the time!

Tip - always book in advance because they are very popular, booking is easy on their website. One of my favourite cocktail bars in Edinburgh and always a unique and fun experience. They change the theme every few months and always go all out! They are so creative with their cocktails, I end up trying flavour combinations I’d never have thought of. The staff are also super lovely, they make it a great place to re-visit. Pictures are from their recent Heroes & Villains themed menu. The menu itself was a comic book with their own story - so clever and fun! (They also play music related to the theme and I was having a great time guessing the movie soundtracks).

Loved this place so much! Very cute and cozy place it's quite small inside but we really liked that as made a nice difference from other bars and restaurants in the area which are big and noisy. Absolutely awesome! Had a lovely time there with my partner. We had a few drinks and got to chat to one of the owners, who was engaging and told us about some of our favourite drinks from the evening. It was refreshing to talk to someone who is clearly so passionate about what they do. We were also chatting to one of the bartenders about the drinks that she invented. They were absolutely lovely, and I was very happy to reminisce about old tv shows. They were also happy to make changes to one of my cocktail orders for me, which was very much appreciated. It was great that the bar also has vegan alternatives for the drinks so we don’t have to miss out! The only downside is that we’re from Cardiff so we can’t visit as often! Also thought I took more photos of this place but the interior is amazing!!

Second visit (first was Star Wars) This one seemed even more themed, if that’s possible. The drinks are so well thought out, down to the tiniest detail. I’m a huge JP fan and LOVED this so much. We tried to squeeze in as many drinks as we could in our hour time slot. So managed to try 3 each, but the last was a push, a couple of the drinks were definitely an acquired taste, but staff will advise you, up to you if you listen, or not 🙈😂🦖🦕

You'll want to book in advance for this one! This place has a wonderful vibe and the decor was so fun. Every time we looked around the room we spotted something new! The staff are so warm, friendly, and informative and even went out of their way to do something special for my sister's birthday. We tried nearly every themed drink on the menu and each one was super unique and so much fun to try. They also have a few mocktails as well, which you can ask to add alcohol to if you want. Overall one of the best bar experiences I've ever had! Can't wait to come back for the next theme!

Have been twice to the Heroes and Villains theme and it is incredible. The cocktails are delicious, my favourite is the I Can Do This All Day and the bar is so well decorated inside. Love the idea of all the different themes and really excited to try the upcoming themes. Highly recommend to anyone, even if you're not familiar with the theme the cocktails are incredible. We will definitely be back!

Awesome place. Definitely book a slot if your in Edinburgh. Theme when we went there was Jurassic Park, they change it every few months, cocktails, the decor and everything. So much attention to detail and surprises. A lot of work must go into everything. Only spent an hour there but it was an amazing 60 mins. Cheers🍹

Such a fun cocktail bar! So we went there last Wednesday and the theme was Extinction. The drinks were delicious, staff super friendly and overall very reasonably priced! We spoke to the staff and they said that the theme changes every 4 months and I think that the next turnover is at some point in October so make sure that you go before the new theme is up!

This is a really fun bar. The drinks are playful, the staff are friendly at this small dog friendly place that ideally located a stone's throw away from the train station. What better way to start or end your visit to Edinburgh! I recommend booking though as it's a small and popular.

This blew our expectations completely out of the water. I mean I've walkways wanted to come along but haven't booked until now. Picture the scene, it's Xmas, it's easily - 2,maybe - 3 windchill, everywhere including the Xmas Market is hammered with people and really, who likes other people? Let's be honest. We booked this on a chance as I hear good things and I like the idea of a theme bar, the witcher is cool which it currently is. We turned up and from start to finish it was brilliant. Fairly priced, good service, small and busy, yet not rammed. Cocktails were some of the best we've had and the snacks were exactly what you really want. We will definitely come back. Thanks again!

Such a fun and creative idea! We pre-booked this on our weekend trip to Edinburgh and I'm so glad that we did. The cocktails are fun and the decor really brings the whole theme together. The prices are very resonable and you are only a short walk into the city centre afterwards. We went at 6pm, so although the place was a little quiet, I can imagine the buzz for this place would be great at night. Would definitely recommend booking in advance to be safe as I'm sure this place fills up quickly.

I understand this place is getting back on it's feet after Covid. But we paid A LOT for cocktails served in mini paper cups. It was upsetting because we'd heard amazing things about the place and the pictures and reviews are all so good. I feel awful writing a bad review because the staff were so lovely. But... the waiter took our payment before the cocktails were served, then brought out the tiny cups. We were shocked! Mine was mostly ice and it cost £8. I'm so sorry, but we left feeling ripped off.

It’s brilliant. The staff are lovely, the themed bar is amazing, and the effort that’s gone into each menu is amazing. The cocktails aren’t expensive for the effort that has gone into them, particularly as several of them do things like change colour, have dry ice etc (all cocktails are less than £10 unless they serve 2 people). The sorting potion, every flavoured beans & glacio ardetium were three great ones that we tried. We’ll go back for the next theme.

We couldn't of planned a better first night in Edinburgh! The place was such a brilliant hidden gem, decor and atmosphere were amazing and very welcomeing with a great attention to detail. So much choice and interesting cocktails (we tried the whole menu 🙈) in theme with harry potter. Can really see all the effort that has been made with this place, the DIY cocktails were imaginative, theatrical and very unique. staff go above and beyond, so attentive and friendly. Matthew and lin were lovely to chat to and share a love of the movies as well as other subjects. Matthew even took the time to write down some other bar recommendations which was super lovely of him. We have already booked our second visit before heading home!. We will definitely be returning when the theme changes again! Thankyou for an amazing night and see you soon

The Pop Up Geeks bring us something different to Edinburgh, and keep it fresh by changing themes every 3 months. Having been to several of their pop up themes- Harry Potter, Rick & Morty, Fallout, Game of Thrones and Fairytales- I've enjoyed each of them. Unfortunately missed Walking Dead and Stranger Things, but they seem to repeat some of the themes so hopefully they'll swing back round. The team clearly put a lot of effort into creating cohesive themes for the drinks and interior of their bar at The Arches. Some might argue the prices are high, but I'd say they're average for a bar in the city. Booking beforehand is essential, as it's a small bar and they don't accept walk-ins. Their drinks menu is quite varied and they're very good at making drinks on request- even mocktails. Expect smoke & sparkles, goblets & test tubes- some assembly required! 🍻

It was perfect, the staff were wonderful and helpful and knowledgeable about the drinks menu. Amazing! Their cocktails are so creative, really unique presentations and stunning, complex flavors. They put a ton of detail into not only how the bar is decorated and painted, but also to fit the flavor of their specialty drinks to the theme with a gorgeous menu and really cute quotes and descriptions. Beyond all that, they rotate the theme every few months. This place is an experience, and absolutely unmissable. It's my favorite bar for a fun night out in Edinburgh, but be careful it's full often and you might want to book in advance if you don't want to try their outdoor seating.

Spent a few hours here last night, interesting space located in what appears to be an old railway arch. It's quite a small intimate venue so booking would be best, the theme when we were there was "Jurassic Park" and as such the cocktails and decor are styled after the films. The cocktails are fantastic, and there are a few surprises along the way if you hit on the right one!!! Of the 3 staff, we had interaction with the 2 girls, one who was making the cocktails and one who was taking the orders and serving up, both very pleasent and happy to help with any questions or advise if required. I would definitely visit again if in the city and would have no hesitation recommending to friends. As an added bonus the theme changes every few months, and we have been reliably informed that next up Is "The Watcher".

As a huge fan of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, this place is a fantastic find! It's a shame it's only on for a short time, but I think these guys focus on the next theme to undertake so this review is mainly for them... The attention to detail was amazing. The menu font was like the title font of the books. There were cocktails you could only have if you answered riddles! The cocktail names are wonderfully nostalgic and expertly crafted. The decor was great, with little film prop details littered around. The only drawback I thought was the size - you had to book - and it felt a little less homely than you imagine The Green Dragon to be. Also the music did deviate from the films - spotted amongst the Howard Shore tracks were Witcher and Skyrim songs, which while fun did set a scene of 'general magical medieval' rather than Middle Earth. All in all a wonderful place and it's a shame it'll all be taken down soon!

Brilliant, fun surroundings, friendly people and a varied menu. We tried 4 cocktails, all of which were quite different to the others, and they were all delicious and terrifically presented. We don't live in Edinburgh but will definitely visit again.

I have been here on a couple of occasions. You really need to book as it's a very small venue. When I visited it was themed with Harry Potter and the other time was Stranger Things. The HP theme was very well done, we got potion cocktails which came with instructions on how to make them. The room was decorated very well on both occasions. Highly recommend.

Great place with a good atmosphere. Staff are friendly and you can tell that a lot of effort is put into the themes. I have been for the fairy tail and Game of Thrones themes. The cocktails are very creative, unique and tasty. The only reason I have given this place 3 stars is because of how slow service is. We arrived at 9 and received our first drink at 9.35. We were finishing our seconds drinks at 10.15 and then left. It's a small place with a few staff which is the reason for the slow service. If they could sort this out then I am sure peoples experiences would be greatly enhanced.

Great, I was there for the Harry potter theme. Cocktails very interesting and tasted great. My only problem is that it's way too small. Thus so is the bar the staff have to work behind and this can result in slow service. Given that you only get a 2 hour slot this can become quite frustrating. Still very pleasant staff, nice decor and my group of 4 really enjoyed our time here. Great place to start the night!

Probably the most unique cocktail bar I've ever been too, went for the fairytale theme earlier in the year and it was such a wonderful atmosphere, the drinks where really interesting & tasted great. Staff all very friendly. All of thise does come at a bit of a price, but I think it's totally justified & worth every penny.

I went and the theme was the lord of the rings/hobbit, although I’m not a big fan of the series I love the environment and how it made me feel like I was on a tavern. I heard a lady complaining with the staff for not asking if she wanted some snacks, but in my opinion the customer should ask what they want. Although the place is small, people always tried to make room for the newcomers, which makes the place even friendlier. I’m not a cocktail person and the ones I sipped, I really didn’t like, but in other hand I had to take a picture of the beers to buy it again.

If you're into any kind of geekdom then this is the place for you. Went during their Star Wars theme and the drinks were all fun but also very delicious. Staff throw themselves into the role entirely and I look forward to their next themes, The Witcher and Harry Potter.

Very quaint and cosy place. Went during the Game of Thrones theme. As far as I understand it the bar changes themes (based on popular tv) every so often. We tried a few drinks of different varieties with some being quite tasty and some were, to be blunt, vile. But to me that is just part of the experience! They include drinks such as "milk of the poppy" and "the strangler" (all based off the TV show) Staff were very friendly and seemed enthusiastic about the service they provide. While slightly on the expensive side, I would definitely go again.

The pop up geeks specialise in themed bars, this one in market Street changes after about 4 months with a particular theme. The Harry potter theme was really good, a range of cocktails you could make yourself in test tubes or you can allow the guys in capes to make you something more complex. The actual taste of the cocktails we tried were ok, flavours slightly compromised to give way to flare. The do it yourself cocktails are served with a wand and the decor is all classic Hogwarts and Harry potter. They seem to go all in on there themes and it is worth a visit.
