Reviews of The Dagda Bar
A. P.
The best bar in Edinburgh! Small, but very cosy. You can feel a real Scottish spirit here. Wide range of good craft beers, very friendly staff. Highly recommended, you couldn't miss it!
B. M.
This one of the great old pubs of Edinburgh. Fantastic old style and loads of friendly bar stuff. It's dog friendly as well and the choice of beer is always changing with time which keeps it interesting. We love it there and highly recommended this place with a great atmosphere.
N. H.
Superb proper old pub in the south of Edinburgh, but only 5 mins walk from Pleasance and Assembly Fringe zones.
Great choice of ales, local Scottish breweries and wide range of whisky I didn’t try, not my thing.
Very knowledgeable barman.
No food
No kids (probably)
Perfect !
I. W.
Great wee proper pub. Good beers friendly atmosphere I would recommend and certainly go back
J. C.
This is peak pub. Can't recommend it highly enough and will certainly be back for a contemplative beer in this temple of the pint!
H. W.
This place is classic and traditional place for Whisky. The bartender is so patient ans so nice. He introduce every kind of Whisky detailedly. The dog there is cute. A cozy place.
K. T.
Nice place to chat with friends. Small but excellent selection of beer and wine.
D. H.
A great little old fashioned pub with a good selection of ales.
P. H.
Lovely wee pub.
Their real ales' are always in tip top condition. Even though they only have 4 ale hand pumps, there's always something for everyone's tastes.
I always try and pop in for a pint or two whenever I'm in Edinburgh.
C. H.
For someone who drinks a lot of craft beer this doesn't have the largest selection. Small but cosy, and comfortable to spend some time.
H. B.
An intimate pub, ‘proper pub’ with friendly staff. No TV no Music, beer on tap and wine behind the bar.
D. A.
An iconic Scottish pub. Don't expect any music, just loud conversations between the customers. Lots of beer options both local and mainstream. Could use a bit more air recycling, cause the air felt quite thick upon entering the establishment. Loved it nonetheless.
G.
One of my favourite places.
Small and relaxing with a great selection of beers. They will also do a decent tea and coffee. They don't do food but they are really reasonable about you bringing your take away - be polite and ask first.
When it is busy it is fairly lively and a great night when it is quiet it is chilled and perfect.
It has that classic old pub feel but always draws a mixed crowd.
A. D.
My brother and sister in law took me here and I will be back ! I was made so welcome and felt relaxed and at ease immediately great atmosphere.
C. M.
A great wee traditional bar. It's got a great selection of beers and spirits, especially whisky and the staff are always helpful and friendly.
I had a friend visiting from the states a few years back. She was so impressed that she made a 3D printed model of this place, mini whisky bottles and IrnBru cans included!!!
C. W.
Proper proper pub for those who like it old school
W. M.
One of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh, it encapsulates the personality of the city perfectly. A small but warm and inviting space where the old and the young both sit amicably shoulder to shoulder. With a good selection of beer, ale and whiskey all served by lovely staff. A local for me and a good slice of Scotland for anyone who is visiting.
A. M.
Nice pints, great bar service, good armoaphere, decent enough price for Edinburgh. Couldnt ask for more of a late night pint
s.
Great wee bar. Good changing beer selection. Can be noisy when students are in.
R. d. R.
Great small bar in the South side of Edinburgh good prices..dog & student friendly
N. P.
A smashing small bar, often visited by comedians, the bar is situated in the middle of the room towards the back, much like a stage in a theatre. I had a pint of citra, excellent quality. Nice relaxed atmosphere would recommend popping in for a drink.
B. Z.
A small cosy local bar for local people and everybody else, quiet sometimes and other times it's quicker to leave one door and enter the other to get across the bar. Staff friendly and helpful if occasionally prone to intemperate language when it's time to go home where they'd quite like to be as well. Excellent range of real ales and most other things.
A. W.
No meat sticks. Takes card. Dog friendly. Very local. Friendly. Not too many seats. Can get very busy. Good selection of beers and ciders. Reasonably priced beer.
K. M.
It really is a great bar - but half of the time I plan to meet someone there I end up having to relocate somewhere else because it's so small and rammed full. A negative result of it's own success. Keep doing well lads - you're an Edinburgh institution.
J. T. H.
An olde-worlde pub with no nonsense, filled with the best people in Edinburgh most evenings and usually at least one dog.
L. W.
Stunning wee bar. The name itself a testament to The Dagda, The all father of Irish/Celtic mythology, an ancient history of the Tuatha de Danaan. This is a brilliant spot to quench ones thirst, be it for ale, beer, wine or whisky. One can even purchase a glass ae mead should ye feel like recounting slurred poetry as Odin once did. Cosy, classic and offering an excellent variety of libations. Get yourself in for a proper rest & recoup.
C. M.
Cozy little local with friendly locals, helpful staff a great selection of beers and whiskies. Very popular, so you may struggle to find a seat, especially on Tuesday which is quiz night.
E. T.
Lovely wee pub! Old style, great beers, fabulous atmosphere!
I. “. J.
Nice little pub with a cosy atmosphere and several good ales on tap which they change on a pretty regular basis. It's quite small and in winter when people are opening and closing the doors constantly it can get pretty drafty, but otherwise it's a great local with friendly staff and a good relaxed vibe.
B. N.
Small but perfectly formed pub in Edinburgh. A fantastic range of beers and whisk(e)ys with knowledgeable staff and a great welcome. One of the best pubs in the city.
C. G.
Friendly service. Dog friendly. Good choice of beers. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Can happily recommend for a quiet pint with friends or on your own.
W. M.
Small - there's not a lot of room if you can't get a seat - but it's still one of the best bars in Edinburgh with super-friendly staff and locals
P. D.
Friendly easy going bar with a responsive online presence having real ales from all over including Inverness’ very own Black Isle Brewery makes this a must visit for those who appreciate a highland pint now and again the pub has a traditional feel and locals and passers by pop in
R. M.
Knowledgeable staff and good drinks with new choices fairly often. It isn't perfect but it's one of the best bars I have ever been in.
J. M.
Lovely hidden gem in Edinburgh, small pub so a somewhat mediocre range of beers and spirits but they offer the basics and a good place to escape the sodding tourists asking you where the bloody castle is every five minutes. The pub also vehemently Hayes the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and offers itself as a place to escape the relentless insanity of the festival. They refuse to hike their prices during August.
T. M.
Great wee pub, laid back with a good selection of beer, though I tend to go for the dagda's own.
You'll often see locals here with a newspaper or book.
No loud music or TV's makes it an excellent place to be able to have a conversation.
g.
Great pub. Small, cosy and comfortable. Very kind staff and welcoming. Excellent selection of real ales at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.
M. S.
Friendly bar, with a range of regularly-changing, interesting ales. Can be a bit drafty in winter, and I've had the occasional slightly-off pint, but there's never been any problem exchanging it for something in better condition.
K. B.
Really old school pub. Friendly staff
M. H.
Great bar ,very friendly and good beers
W. W.
The Dagda is a pub I always visit when I am in Edinburgh. Why, because the beer is aiways well kept, it is always real, and the quality, the taste, and its 'dialogue' on the tongue, invariably captivates. It is a small intimate bar with the fugg and babble you would expect to find in a traditional setting.
D. H.
Good selection of beers for such a small pub. Only downside was it was pretty cold inside, though they did eventually bring out a small fan heater.
G. M.
Super atmosphere when someone sung happy birthday the whole pub joined in, such a great pub with so many cool social people in it all the time, also 5* staff always in a cheery mood that adds to a very excellent night
R. C.
Cosy, welcoming, nice selection. Not a huge pub but managed to get sat down on a friday. Great place!
M.
A perfect example of a 'proper' pub. Great selection of beers and friendly service. A wonderfully relaxed atmosphere without the need for gimics.
K. O.
Great bar, great beer but I've now been here 5 times as I really want to make this my local but the staff are awful. I suppose I'll keep looking.
P. S.
Lovely local, great staff, terrific selection of beers and wines. Very social, no loud TVs or music, a place to talk and be social
P. W.
Excellent wee pub, always has something interesting on the taps
I. W.
Great locals' bar with a good range of real ales, malts etc.
Staff attentive and knowledgeable.
Haven't noticed a TV!
A wee gem!
M. M.
A top "old man's pub", which I say in the most complimentary way. Good selection of real ales, happy staff, relaxed atmosphere, cosy bar and decent bar snacks
t. c.
Friendly staff cosy pub
B. E.
Great wee pub, no fussing or pretentions, fab service and a good selection of drinks.
H. E.
Dead cosy on a rainy afternoon, with comfy green leather banquettes, gently-distressed wood tables and stools, some nice modernist art on the walls and- most importantly- dugs welcome.
A. M.
Lovely atmosphere, feels like a true Irish pub! The cozy booths are great and so is the selection of beers and spirits!
V. H.
