Great little local pub - nice atmosphere, cold beer and good music. Staff are really friendly and the food was simple but good. Nice place to sit on a Sunday afternoon.

Excellent bar in Edinburgh, great craft ales on offer, superb selection of gin, whiskey, cocktails and very good organic coffee on offer. Excellent cooked breakfast, all of the attaches picture for £9! Could be £10 easily! Next door to Premier Inn York Place and offers a much better bar.

Felt like a local on my first trip. Nice selection of various drinks (beer, cider, special gin/rum menus), plus mulled cider and great cocktails. Food selection isn't huge, but everything we had was great! Little bit of everything - Live music on Thursday, quiz night on Wednesday.

Bright and open space. Great interior that instantly makes you feel at home. Warm and engaging staff who evidently take pride in what they do. Delicious, unpretentious food prepared with love. Good music played at a level that allows the conversation to flow unhindered. This place has a great vibe that lends itself to cultivating new friendships and deepening existing ones. A definite 'people' pub. One of the absolute best in Edinburgh at the moment.

I love this places signage and their house beer is a great idea and a nice pint but I'm not totally sold on the full price food menu or the other higher end beers. I'm not sure it's what Duke Street needed but they seem to be popular with other folks so I wish them luck in their future!

Nice medium sized modernised cosy bar. Tried the flat breads from the menu and they were well priced and delicious for a light and filling bar snack! When cocktail ingredients weren't available, they're always happy to suggest a substitution to make an off menu masterpiece! Well worth a look!

We are from the U.S. and are staying in Edinburgh for a few days. We have visited The Empress twice in the past 24 hours and can honestly say this is one of the best bars we have ever been to. Andrew, Pedro, and George have taken the best care of us and served us the best beers, whiskey, and cocktails. I highly recommend visiting. Superb service and quality, amazing environment. The best place we have visited on our journey to Scotland. Do not miss out on your chance to visit The Empress while you're in Edinburgh!

Well located at the top of Broughton Street, this is a really nice bar with a good selection of drinks and a well turned out interior. Have not eaten here but have been told that the food is very nice. Staff are on the ball and friendly.

Went for few beers. The place has apparently gone through some renovation at some point and maybe try to be a bit newer wave hipsterish place - like the older members of our group said. Customers seemed to be a mixture of older and younger. If partly slightly odd looking, still cosy and quite small place. Best of all, quite good beer selection consisting of a bit of something for everyone - from basic draught lagers to few cask ales and few craft taps and bottles.

The beer they pulled for me wasn't great I only wanted a Tennant lager but their was something wrong I felt I was paying for a pint but my glass felt half empty. After 3 pints and on my fourth and after a discussion with the staff did I finally get a full pint. I'm old school and I must admit I preferred the old mathers to this place.

Nice ambient atmosphere but really guys the price of your real ale is extortionate £ 4.95 for a session pale ale is a disgrace only £ 2.50 in the Guildford. Sorry but money talks and mine is good anywhere.
