What a fantastic bar. My first visit and despite living only a 10 minute walk away, I really didn't know of its existence. We sat outside for the latter part of the day and then moved inside once requested. The staff were very friendly, and efficient, and prices were mid range. We'll definitely be back.

Great beer, pleasant relaxed surroundings. Only downside was that I would have preferred it a little quieter, but that was my fault for picking Tuesday night, which was quiz night. A lovely, traditional Edinburgh pub, nevertheless. Well worth a visit, especially if you like well-kept real ale.

Nice pub with cosy wooden panels, good for live football and a few pints. Good cask ale selection and plenty of whiskeys and premium gins. Brilliant music selection every time I have visited. Affordable, student discount also offered.

Looking around Edinburgh and its pubs, this is clearly one of, if not the place to stop for a drink and a chat that may turn into many. Great genuine service, good variety of drinks and food with an outside table under a tree... random question walk-in‘s will get to host their gigs here if they are reasonably serious about it... enjoy, we‘ll be back... if we ever leave

I have always loved this pub since 1996. The downstairs side has a great lounge feel while the main bar is great for banter. Friendly staff, decent prices, good beer, what's not to like

I have only been in once because I moved away but I remember feeling very welcome here. The barman knew his whisky and the atmosphere was good. They even did food as well when I was in. Certainly worth a visit.

Top class establishment. I may have overindulged on my first visit here. Although I painted the walls with my spew, the bar staff were kind a caring enough to fetch me a glass of water whilst delivering a 5 star service. Top banter , top place, tidy bar staff.

The nicest pub in the surrounding area and serves a decent selection of draught beers. Usually very relaxed but really picks up if there's a Hearts game at Tynecastle so keep an eye on fixtures if you don't want to get caught up with the football crowd. Lots of TV screens for any major sporting events and very good bar staff. I would highly recommend anyone staying nearby drop in for a beer or two.

Not a bad local pub - really great selection of cask ales that changes regularly, and plenty of booths and TVs downstairs. They show F1 (and lots of other sport) if you ask, and the staff are friendly. Prices are reasonable too!

Great wee pub with an excellent selection of beer - a cut above the usual warm, flat choices. Only problem, don't visit on a Thursday - they have a band on downstairs which is far too loud for the size of the space. Can't hear a thing anyone's saying.

A good neighbourhood local that takes its beers seriously (but not too seriously) the Golden Rule is a split-level pub with big screens for the usual sporting events and a quiz on a Tuesday night that's competitive but not intimidating. It has just the right atmosphere to pass a few hours over a drink and a natter, it's not a destination pub but that's no bad thing

I really love coming to the Golden Rule when it's quiet. It's a great place to chill out and have a chat. Was also here when Stewart Hogg ran down the length of the pitch to score an amazing try for Scotland and that was great as well. Food wise, you can have a toastie and that's about it. Drinks wise it's got a reasonable variety of real ales as well as the standard fare.
