The place is spacious with a nice vintage decor. We ordered a Sunday Roast with three Scottish tapas - cured salmon, Scotch egg and monkfish cheeks. All food was great - the slices of roast sirloin were flavourful and very tender, and we love all the tapas, particularly the gooey egg yolk in Scotch egg. There is a wide range of gin available, though we only had the cocktails and they were excellent. An enjoyable experience!

Great cocktails! We all ordered something different and the guy at the bar who made them was amazing. They were all some of the best cocktails I've ever tasted. I forgot to take a picture which is a shame as they looked beautiful. The doorman was also great crack and very sweet to us. I absolutely love the vibes of this place and if I lived here it would be my favourite hangout.

We tried the Scottish tapas, meatballs, belly pork and squid were all amazing, way more than we hoped for tapas being honest, highly recommend the food option. 2 tapas and chips was a very filling meal, also loads to choose from. The Gin selection was very wide, there had to be at least 60 varieties possibly more, but we didn't count them. All in all from what we expected looking in, The Jolly Botanist was a pleasant surprise and we wish them all the best

Had a lovely meal here, the small plates were outstanding the cured salmon and monkfish cheeks were a personal fav. My partner followed it up with the roast and was very happy to see beef on the menu for a change. The cocktails were amazing aswell and staff were so lovely and happy to help 😊

Checked out this spot on a recent trip to Edinburgh. Trendy looking space and great selection of gin. Enjoyed the gin based cocktail and local beer on tap. Bartender was friendly and informative. I would come here everyday of my life, if I could. The gin menu is absolutely incredible and highly detailed. They've clearly put a lot of thought into the gin and how to serve it in a way that highlights the flavor. The lunch specials are also very reasonably priced.

Spent an hour or two here while waiting for check in at our apartment, and of the three nearby pubs this seemed the most appealing. Gin menu was fantastic with a good range of familiar gins and a selection of more niche gins and mixers to try. Our near neighbour's food smelled incredible too.

What a jolly time we had at the botanist! Plenty of tables and gin options to choose from and our drinks were spot on. A great location with easy access to the train. The table next to us had chips and the smelled pretty damn good to be honest with you.

The gentleman serving was very patient with us and advised the gin drinkers on what they should try and offered a taste of the draught beer for another member of the group. A crazy amount of choice of gin !! Very nice and helpful staff. The place is big with a charming atmosphere. Prices of drinks are ok, prices of food a bit too high in my opinion. We ordered a mezze plate for 16£ and were disappointed. Nonetheless this is a nice place with very good gins (and tonic!), especially suited for a group of friends.

One of the best gin bars in Edinburgh. The interiors are both quirky and quaint. They stock a wide range of gins and I was genuinely surprised by how reasonable the prices were. If you're a gin lover this place is definitely worth a visit.

Absolute brilliant experience! I had my reservations about going (despite no reservation... (jokes!) but the staff were absolutely brilliant and the other customers were good craic too. The bar staff - tattooed geezer, lady from Dunblane, guy with the croc ring... absolutely magic thanks for a great night out! Walked in to Siouxsie and the Banshees on the stereo... knew it was gonna be a good one! 🥳

Popped in to watch a match before going to rugby match at Murrayfield. The bar was standing room only but the staff were managing to serve everyone within a couple of minutes. Nice selection of beers. I'll need to pop back to try their gin n tonic selections!

A bit pricey, but you can't beat the incredible selection, friendly waitstaff, helpful bartenders, and cozy atmosphere here. My wife and I really enjoyed sitting down and enjoying a few different unique gins and cocktails. Each gin is paired with a olfactory compliment to its botanical mix, which I found particularly enjoyable. The compliments are diverse, from a sprig of thyme to mint and lemon to a mix of dark berries. Each of these perfectly complimented the gin with which it was accompanied.

Beware its predominately a gin bar and has a massive selection of gin, it has Heineken on tap and some other beers and a few other spirits but is mostly gin. Its very laid back and is perfect for a group meeting or night out. Not quiet enough for romance but we went as a couple and still loved it. This bar is a 'must' for any gin fans in Edinburgh. The variety of gins on the menu is second to none and the descriptions help you make an informed decision regarding which to pick!! They offer a huge variety, each with its specific garnish. The staff are all friendly and really know their gin. Somehow, they are also all gorgeous - they all look like they have won the genetic lottery! The interior is quirky, comfortable and eclectic. Well worth a visit.

Great ambience, good staff and lovely gin based cocktails. They have a huge variety of gins and the bartenders know their pairing(with mixer and garnish).The place is usually packed on a weekend so if you want a table reserve. The food is good, some nice choices. The place has a full glass wall so you can see the road which is nice. Music is relatively relaxed and the cocktail or gins slightly expensive. It is also very close to Haymarket station so is ideal for a quick drink with friends or colleagues before heading home.

Pleasant afternoon spent catching up with a friend over a gin & tonic and some food. My fries were a little flabby, but my friend seemed to enjoy the sweet potato burger. Service was good, loos not too bad. It was quiet when we got there around 2.15pm then it got busy, a good sign. Do try the 'gin and juice' cocktail, very moreish.

Visited the jolly botanist for Sunday lunch which was amazing, the place is beautifully decorated and clean. Also very well organised with the covid regulations. Was served by a beautiful efficient and really attentive waitress, Natalie was her name. Would def go back and try something else from the menu but mostly for the incredible service we received. Nice gin bar with friendly staff and a good range of gins. Only knock for me was a weird setup in the gents toilets. It all looks very cool and modern only they've got the hand dryer above a radiator and it's causing would could eventually be a health hazard as the water coming off peoples hands lands on a warm surface. Was already looking mouldy when I visited. Hopefully they can get this resolved soon.

Fabulous looking venue, eclectic décor that makes it comfy and welcoming, and gin, lots of gin. The drinks menu is brilliant if you're a gin lover. They've done the hard work for you, marrying up the right tonic and accompaniment to compliment the gin. Loving the recycled gin bottles into candle jars, the bottles are too pretty to waste. It's not all gin, so don't be put off.

I used to live about 10 minutes walk from the Jolly Botanist and was around when it first opened a few years back. In the time since it opened till I departed Edinburgh this bar was one of my local haunts. The selection of beers was always really good, the cocktails were made well and the burgers were delicious. The service was generally quick and efficient even when it was really busy and it does get busy on the weekends. This is a great trendy Pub to visit if you are in Edinburgh for a short stay or even if you live in Edi I would highly recommend it. They were one of the only places having Affligem on tap at the time :-)

Nice bar in an area which is fairly short on them! Usually pretty busy even on weeknights and on sunny days they open up the window/doors. This provides for extra space but does mean people spilling out on the pavement. Good selection of drinks, although I have found service fairly slow at times. Haven't eaten there yet but by all reports looks pretty decent for dining so I'll give it try soon enough.

I like it here. It's a bit quirky, nice place to sit for drinks. I've only ever been a bit later for drinks, there's a really good door man who's always friendly. We discussed the animals in the picture once and worked out what they all were. 4 stars because we went in quite late one night, ordered, and they said they were closing soon. There was still a good half hour left so we were like, "Ok, can we get a drink though?" They did reluctantly serve us, and I know it's annoying having worked behind a bar myself but a customer is a customer, so even when they do come in when you'd rather be closing up, you still have to serve them, and it was only a couple of g&t's and we were away anyway, no biggie.

Love the decor and atmosphere here, they opened up the front on a balmy Spring evening which was lovely. We had a great spot at the front and the bar staff were really friendly. We ordered some drinks and started a long over due catch up. Unfortunately because we were sat on a table with a menu (we were intending to eat after a drink and a chat) we must of been asked about 8 times if we wanted to order food! This was 8 times by two different staff, so surely after the first reply to each of them we'd of been left alone! In the end we ordered the food just to be left alone which came promptly and was delicious. So good for a drink and eat by all means if you are prepared for it! Or else don't have a menu on your table till the last minute, then do a sneak attack food order!

Great gin bar - unparalleled gin selection and knowledgeable staff. Can be busy though, especially evenings from 5 (popular with people after work). We went in for brunch for the first time last weekend and were very pleased - great food and it was quiet, and good coffee.

Great selection of gins, knowledgeable staff, and a nice variety of cocktails. Having said that, I don't think I'd rush to go back. Compared to other bars that offer a similar service and drinks, it's very expensive (even by Edinburgh standards), and I couldn't quite work out why. They also turned down the lights to just about pitch blackness rather than leaving it at the enjoyable ambience they had before, which kind of ruined the atmosphere, thought we were getting kicked out.

The range and serving options of the gins are fantastic, inside is cosy. Outside, however, is noisy and dirty with a busy road and bins. There was also a group of loud football supporters there too, thankfully I don't think the staff put on the match and left BBC news on (with subtitles, always a good sign).

They ran out of a few gins I had wanted to try. I get it. Small batches, logistics, etc. Food menu was interesting. Had lunch there. Haggis with neeps and tatties was mind blowingly good. Barman and batwoman were knowledgeable and capable. Went with simple gin gimlets across a variety of gin. Barman gave good advice and steered me towards some of his favourites while letting me dictate some of my own preferences.

A cosy atmosphere and a brilliant selection of gins, all expertly made by knowledgeable staff, this is a real secret hotspot in Edinburgh. in the hotter weather, the sliding doors open up to provide a European cafe culture style offering so you can take your favourite drinks outside. The bar has a modern "deconstructed" look. Definitely one of the coolest places to be in town these days.

Don't be (too) intimidated by the three-page-long gin list! Just pick a gin and go with it. You'll get a gin and tonic customized to the gin's own flavor profile and it'll more than likely be AWESOME. The bar is super cute and unpretentious, as a plus, and the drinks are reasonably priced. I wish I had more time in Edinburgh so I could go here again...and again...and again...

When there is a lovely gentlemanly botanist theme happening, why ruin it with painful RnB? The atmosphere suffers in any bar with a TV playing too. Rip them out, put something old-timey on the stereo and you've got yourself a nice bar.

Fantastic range of gins & cocktails and nice decor. However the food is a little pretentious (limited selection of simple bites to eat) and even on a quiet night the service can be extremely slow. I recently waited just over 30 minutes for four drinks when the tables were around 70% full. I would probably recommend it to a friend but with the clear caveat regarding service.
