Reviews of The Kenilworth
B. “. e.
This place has taken a while to reopen after lock down. Very quiet when I was in. I first was in here 30 years ago and not a lot has changed except the staff. I was told the kitchen was getting upgraded soon.
M.
Quite a nice pub in central Edinburgh. Toilets are average, beer is good, service is fine. Historic building - I would go back.
r. b.
Awesome pub, very old and very beautiful, staff are friendly and helpful.. Food was amazing, very well priced too
M. P.
A great Edinburgh pub, helpful staff and great location behind Princess Street. Excellent Scottish lager, Innis and Gunn...love it!
.. R.
Nice pint of real ale. Pleasant surroundings. Really old traditional decor. Stunning ceiling.
N. C.
One of the few remaining authentic boozers on Rose Street. Great beer, live music at the weekend, can't fault it.
C. P.
Excellent place to drink and an historical bar to enjoy. I totally recommend !
T.
This is the third time we are visiting during our 6 day holiday to Edinburgh. Amazing selection of beers and ciders (the girlfriend is especially happy about the cider part) and one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. Highly recommended!
K. F.
Great pub with friendly staff. Good atmosphere
S. J.
Loved it, traditional old Edinburgh pub, friendly staff.
b. w.
Class bar reminds me of a Italian style gangster bar like a good fellows.
C. G.
It is a shame that it has been closed since the first lockdown. It is one of the top Edinburgh pubs with a great history, great pub grub and a good choice of beers and whiskies. Good to see that you are open again and I hope to visit you in the near future as I have cut down my pubbing recently. I went back to the Kenilworth on 28/02/2022 for the first time since lockdown and despite it not being very busy is still a great pub with very reasonable prices for central Edinburgh.
P.
A lovely pub with lovely tile work, and ornate ceiling. Not sure about the beer as I was on Peroni
C. R.
Fantastic pub - food was brilliant (wild boar sausages in Yorkshire pud & spicey fishcakes), cider & wine was good. Wonderful atmosphere and great surroundings with very friendly staff. Loved it!
S. W.
Aye good pub, well worth visiting
T. B.
Established in 1904 old style pub big windows clear and clean with seating outside, The bar is a joy to look at when you view range spirits on view. Good fast service cool pints, and food was reasanable priced. worth a visit if yor in Edinburgh.
J. S.
Great ale house, not too busy.
J. W.
Enjoyed a quiet drink here before it closed.
C. R.
Pretty much what you’d expect from a Scottish pub. Don’t drink but do love Sticky Toffee Pudding and it’s dang good here.
J. H.
Good singer on whilst there , nice friendly staff
A. D.
What a great pub, excellent beer and decor
C. T.
Cosy pub, friendly staff, beautiful architecture
A. S.
Food delicious. Staff kind and friendly. Nice relaxed meal on a Tuesday evening, what more could you ask for?
If you haven't been before here's something to keep in mind:
It's seat yourself. So you order food and drink at the bar, tell them where you're sitting. They'll bring food to you and they'll pour the drinks for you to take back to your seat.
A. B.
Our group of four enjoyed the fish & chips, hunter's chicken, wings, haggis, and two salads. 15-year old scotch, Guinness washed it down. The food was fresh and well-prepared. The staff was efficient. A great pub experience.
M. S.
Very friendly staff clean and tidy
M. J.
Cool old historic bar. The beer is cold and lunch was good. Friendly staff.
A. H.
Beautiful old proper pub.
L. B.
Always good. Barstaff are excellent
M. S.
Popped in for an afternoon drink as Christmas Market was too hectic. Found a nice table by the door and ended up having fish finger 🥪 and a pint 🍻 for me and a glass of 🍷 for my partner. Excellent value and great atmosphere.
J. C.
This place has the best sausages and mash you could get anywhere! We visited here two weekends on the trot after stumbling upon it on our walk through the city.
They have a range of different sausages to try as well as various flavours of mash. Absolutely delicious.
The place is quite small and cozy but worth the squeeze if you can find a space!
Bar staff are very friendly and efficient. Food came out fast and hot, perfect!
S. H.
Excellent steak & kidney pie and good drinks!
H. B.
Beautiful old pub with good food
P. D. M.
Bin here 2 times first time ordered fish and chips.was excellent crispy fish and perfectly fried chips.2nd time ordered toad in the hole ,also very tasty.be aware that you not show up after 9 because some dishes can be sold out and I know why.
Also dont miss the large collection of wine and appetizers.Friendly service also.
B. F.
Nice pub with helpful staff. Good choice of beers. Great pub food and the big window lets you see the world go by on Rose Street. Unfortunately there is no disabled toilet and my husband had to go down six steps to the Gents. I like this pub and next time I'm in Edinburgh I'll be heading to the Kenilworth ☺
K. S.
This was a wonderful pub we found while wandering back to our hotel. Thirsty and tired, we wanted to find somewhere to get off our feet and possibly have lunch. This was perfect! Friendly staff, a good selection of beers. Fish and chips were excellent!
A. R.
A lovely and cosy Rose St pub, with a selection of real ales that is varied and interesting. Its unique interior layout is the product of a long-since removed second floor, and allows a very intimate setting that is at the same time spacious. Well worth a visit!
N. N.
Excellent bar! Pet friendly. Nice attention.
J. W.
Cracking real ale served in lovely surroundings 👍👍👍
B.
Visited here from Brisbane, Australia. We enjoyed it so much we came back twice in our short stay in Edinburgh. Nice cosy pub with a classic pub meal menu. Good beer and good food. Great atmosphere and friendly team.
P. D.
Lovely little old style pub. Gives you that older pub feeling when your there. Good selection of drinks and the staff are very welcoming. I enjoyed my visit here. Will use again.
A. F.
Suprisingly good food. Pub grub done properly. The mixed grill looked great. The burger was tasty and the prices were reasonable considering it's Edinburgh. Would be happy to go back.
D. M.
It was a quiet cold Thursday evening in March, so probably didn't see the Kenilworth in its very best light, but still enjoyed the atmosphere of one of the Citys's oldest pubs. You can't really 'do' Rose Street without including this place in your crawl. The staff were efficient and friendly and we enjoyed our visit.
D. N.
Went in here yesterday afternoon for a beer. Lovely pub. On the small side but very welcoming with friendly staff. Big rectangular bar in the middle of pub, which I think always looks good. Nice if you can get a window seat & watch the world go by outside. Great decor, fair prices & enjoyed the cider on draught, which I think was Mortimers.
R. N.
Nice place with very friendly service. I got here a bit late and was around all the way till closing time. Never felt hassled even when they started wrapping up. I am always a bit stingy on awarding 5 stars (exceptional or unique places only) but in general I don't see much of faults in this place.
A. B.
Great atmosphere: central bar island like and Victorian mosaic covered walls. Distinctive and nice place to see. Food and drink selection is affordable and diverse. A bit small and can be quickly crowded and sitless.
B. N.
Absolutely loved this place! It's a must for me if I ever return to Edinburgh. Nicholson's Pale Ale was wonderful and I had my first plate of haggis here, going to be hard to top. Sticky Toffee Pudding... so good :D
J. S.
Navy reunion met up here. Staff were fantastic. Food was good pub grub and the beer was fantastic. Shout out to Stephen and his crew for making us welcome.
j. w.
Met my daughters for Birthday lunch. Food great and well cooked. Good and polite service. Ales good. Slight snag in seats and tables a touch high...ok for the girls but I'm knocking on 80!
J. G.
Really lovely bar and run very well by a dedicated team. The interior of the Kenilworth makes it stand out from other bars in Edinburgh. They have a great traditional lunch and dinner menu. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been already.
R. H.
Great service, very friendly.
G. G.
Friendly service with good ales
A. P.
They had excellent Scottish food. The prices were very reasonable and even though there was only one waiter, he did an excellent job serving multiple tables at once. Great atmosphere!
T. T.
Tables, seats quite cramped. Good direction of beers, good staff. Food was excellent and good value, but took a bit long to arrive, even though the place was not busy
t.
Had the haggis here for the first time, it was good. It was served as a starter with turnip, mash and gravy the nick name was haggis tatties and nibs... I did make one mistake by sitting outside as the tables are on an uneven surface. I ordered tea with Milk and the milk came in a little espresso cup which made pouring a mess.. As I put my elbow on the table the whole side of the table shifted and the milk was every where. Moral of the story... outside tables should be more stable!!
I. B.
It was great got a staff member when I ordered a pint then I ordered the Ocean fish and chips well what a plate two bits of cod and 6 or 4 bits of scampi and heap of chips and mushy peas good job I was hungry .Had another pint the manager served me and asked me if I enjoyed my meal I said yes it was fantastic He was very nice treated you like a human being .Pity about the Edinburgh customers my face was red and all they could do was wisper insults .But its a lovely pub .
A. D.
Lovely, quiet pub away from the crowds on the cobbled Rose street. Our family got a whole room to ourselves to enjoy our authentic Scottish food and craft ales. A gem!
C. S.
So nice I went back. Loved the atmosphere.
R. B.
Great choice of gins and whiskies. Very friendly bar staff and a lovely place to relax and let the world go by. Food was excellent and really quick. Definitely would go back
G. W.
Beer still good, food still good although portions noticeably smaller. Staff still very good. Toilets still have a strong odour. Perhaps a steam clean periodically??
A. B.
Little, victorian gem of a pub. Totally original. Amazing tiles and ceiling.
G. S.
This was a surprise but welcome when it was found. Great food and really good beer poured from traditional taps. Good conversation from locals more than willing to tell you more tham the tour can! Roughly 115 years old on Rose Street. Runs parallel to Princes Street but is pedestrian only. Proprietor even invited me to "pull" my own beer! Can't experience better than that! Try the fish and chips with a Deuchars.
P. P.
Restricted Victorian pub with the rectangular bar occupying most of the floor space, so it's easily filled in here. That said, the limited numbers usually equate to easily getting served. Nice service, good food, traditional pub atmosphere.
M. D.
Lovely pub, fab building lots of history to it.
p.
It felt like having your favourite drink in church :D
S.
Some of the best food we had in Edinburgh, the bartenders/Servers were friendly and helpful.
We discovered Crabbie's ginger beer here, fantastic if you are fond of ginger!
The only bad thing was, we didn't get back again before we left Scotland :(
This is a good size restaurant with plenty of seating.
Definitely a great place to eat!
C. M.
Fabulous. Just arrived in to Wavell on the Morning checked into Cityroomz hotel. My Wife had Googled family pubs. We had Kenilworth Sharer and Haggis neaps and tatties. The Food service and friendly service was excellent. Lovely Character and History of the building.
M. K.
A nice, average pub with friendly staff. There was per se nothing wrong, they could only have done so much more with the space and athmosphere (the music was just terrible, the walls belong to my grandmother's house, the ceiling causes eye cancer etc.).
You can definitely have a beer and something to eat with it, athmosphere and a beautiful pub you'll find somewhere else.
M.
Really nice traditional pub with friendly staff and lovely decor. Good wee selection of whiskies at fair prices.
A. B.
Gorgeous pub on Rose Street, beautiful decor and atmosphere. Great selection of beers and spirits.
The menu is varied, the portions are good.

J. G.
Great atmosphere. Would definately stop again. Had a female bartender (not sure of her name) but she was verh helpful and cheery. Great place to stop for a pint or glass of wine.
S. Y.
Traditional pub grub & typical brewery owned bar that's almost like a franchise. Nothing special or fancy - if you want to just go to the pub and get grub, here's your place.
2. C. D.
Great wee pub in the center of town . But guys when are you going to get the heating sorted always cold in there. If you find this review useful was hit like

Great beer and service, just don't sit at the left back of the bar; the dishwasher is there and it smells awful. Still had a good time!
M. R.

p. b.
Great staff; very friendly, knowledge, quick. Building is swamped in history, the food is tasty, the beers and spirits are varied and of good quality.
A. M.
nice little rose street boozer, but no trad cider, I'd heard it did Addlestones...alas no, but a good merlot nonetheless. Lovely bar staff though, best I've found so far.
C. A.
A large island bar takes up a lot of the space which cut back customer room .
They have a good selection off beers and spirits.
C. R.
Breakfast was amazing. Loads of choice and reasonably priced. Will go back next time I'm in Edinburgh.

L. K.
A lovely traditional pub with very friendly staff. Good portions for a great price. (I got the £6 meal deal)
T. d. K.
Good drinks. But they dont put prices next to their drinks anywhere. Apparently prices are too high class for a pub...
J.
Great place for a drink. Looks like not much space around but just walk in further past the bar.
